Found this one after taking a break at the nearby cheese cafe (its a nice place by the way). Log happily signed, and off we rode again.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there currently staying near Ngatea for a few days we had decided that we would drive over to Kopu & then get the bikes out & bike some of the Kopu to Paeroa Section of the Hauraki Rail Trail (HRT) weather wasnt looking that great but we went anyway cache was easily found, albeit that the cabbage tree looks like it might have lost one of its trunks more than pleased to add this 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:LS #5,589 for Us!
Thank you for the cache. Out on the trail with PomTom44. Hopefully someone is able to adopt the trail as will be a shame to see it archived. Great series of caches.
Day 1 of our two day adventure doing the Rail Trail with BearCache #10Total found so far: 9Either I can't count, of the tree no longer has 5 trunks?Either way, the only one around which matched the hint, so a quick find, sign, and replace, then on our way
Quick find, we seem to be getting every 2nd cache along this trail. With Pork N Puha. TFTC
Riding various bits of the HRT - just had my fill of cheese and now back to some caching - TFTC
Out for a bike ride along the trail collecting a couple of caches I'd not got last time I was here. Nice quick find, all good, signed the nice new log, cheers
Found the hint object easily enough and there was the cache! All good & dry log TFTC
Found without too much hassle, just a family of muggles on their bikes. Found with DeadRockFlower on our bike ride, one of many today. Tnlnsl. TFTC!!
A very quick stop as I wasn't sure if the other cycling couple were geocaching or just having a break... T4tc
Out for a bike ride exploring the HRT on a hot 30 degrees sunny day. We were glad for the excuse to stop for a break and collect caches as there was not much shade along the trail. Quick find here with lots and lots of acorns at gz as well as some duck eggs.
The Hauraki Rail Trail is closed while the Covid 19 rahui is in place. Anyone geocaching during this time is putting themselves and others at risk by handling the containers, stash and logs. So this cache is disabled until this present emergency ends. I reserve the right to disable any logs dated after the lockdown started.

Mr rattll had driven around to here to check if I was going ok, and had managed to find the cache without a GPS before I got there.
So after a quick discussion I decided to continue on for a few more.
Thanks for setting this up

Actually on my way to Thames / Kopu to fill in a couple of D/T squares but this seemed to have popped back into existance along a track I thought I'd cleared. Made a small detour to pick it up. TFTC.
Found this one on the way back towards where we had left the vehicle- very few muggles about as it is so hot today and the southbound trip is like biking into a hot oven. Thank goodness this one was in a shaded area. TFTC
The coordits were out for us but the hint made it a quick find.cache all good thanks for the placement.
On a trip with Dee trying to get this part of the trail done and dusted. A bit chilly biking this morning but great places to be brought to. II am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing us back here. Cheers
Out and about with McJandals today.
Missed this one when we rode through here in July last year. So parked up and took a stroll to give us a complete line of yellow smiley faces.
Cheers ️

Found it on my first trip on HRT from Kopu to Paeroa. 55km bike journey on Easter Sunday! Thanks for bringing me here, for great joy , for great hides.
Nice little break in the shade here.
Started by the oak trees. Then got the hint ....

Another quick find. Loads of acorns around. Lucky we still had our helmets on because they were falling around us as we sat and had a snack while signing the log book!

A hot day exploring the trail between Kopu and Paeroa and finding a few caches enroute. A couple of turkeys were also enjoying this spot. TFTC.
We saw a likely hiding spot as we approached and were pleased to find we were correct. Such a nice spot. TFTC.

Today's mission was to redo part of the HRT and pick up all the caches we missed on our previous cycle. We've tried to improve locating where we need to stop. Much more success today on an enjoyable 20km return. Will be nice to see all the smileys on the map. Contacted CO prior to our trip to offer to replace cache. We have am sure CO will reenable this listing with new cords and hint. SL. TFTC.
Updating my new geo account with my old finds. Geokid has grown out of the geo adventures, but I'm still keen! Found as thebrownehornet but not logged, with keylev and Team SEAC and finally logging 02 04 2024 as NurseDr.
This leg of the Hauraki Rail trail from Kopu to Paeroa was the last leg that we needed to complete the whole series. Mrs Keylev suggested that we do this and it just happened to be her birthday. This coincided with the opening of another section of the trail from Kopu to Miranda! There were lots of cyclists there for this but we basically had the section from Kopu to Paeroa to ourselves.
ter a while we decided the correct decision had been made to disable the cache and we all logged it as a DNF

We hunted and hunted and hunted and even with 4 sets of eyes we were unsuccessful
Four of us searched for a while and all we found was a hibernating hedgehog under one of the chairs.
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .
But no almost the complete opposite, so after getting bike and body sorted it was to the start we went and ride the HRT trail, we started in thames and the plan was to ride to te aroha if the body allowed.
Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.
That was a very good clue

I was out with the MCC biking the HRT from Kopu to Paeroa. We were already feeling pain from the bumpy trail by this time. After searching a few of the larger possibilities, the cache was located. TFTC.
We were out with Agazo biking the HRT from Kopu to Paeroa. A great bike ride and legs were jelly by the end of the day
We had already biked part of the Paeroa-Thames HRT, so today was the day to complete it. Not a very nice day unfortunately, with showers passing through, but still there were several cyclists out there - surprisingly! Apart from one DNF these are now completed for us - TFTC and the series
Today the Squirrel and I decided we would try and clear the remainder of the HRT Trail, so we walked and biked section to complete this, starting at the Te Aroha and heading to Paeroa. Once this leg was done we went to the Thames end and back to Paeroa. Caches were found fairly quickly with the hints given. We replaced 2 very wet log sheets with new ones and one where cache container was missing. Improvised and found a large piece of timber and used as log sheet, hopefully owner will replace. SLTFTC (New Log Sheet)
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)...
We've been wanting to complete the HRT for a while now. We've picked up parts of this trail over several visits, and now we're left with the more 'out of the way' hides. We have no choice but to bike these sections. It's going to be a long ride between caches...
A nice, shady section of the track. This was a good hide ruined by a saturated, mushy logbook. Gap put in some fresh paper so that we could do the business. TFTC.

Hopefully on my last leg to complete the trail.
It has been a very enjoyable effort and a great series.
Certainly an attraction to the area. an extra effort needed here.

I have been thinking of cycling the Hauraki Rail Trail for some time. Finally made it on a sunny day. Like others found by looking further afield.
#2369 Out biking today with friends from Hikutaia to the cheese barn and back- such good fun! Last cache before a lunch stop at the Cheese Barn and feeding the animals. TFTC!
Down from Auckland today to cache in Thames then this HRT trail. Caching with 2 keen cachers supernanny and harisree and we're working our way south to Paeroa. we have 3 bikes, but as it turned out it was a lot easier using 2 of the bikes for the girls and I do the driving and make them hot drinks from time to time as they showed up, we would snack together then carry on. It seemed to work well. I did caches close to the roads and they did the rest.
This really took us quite a long time . But we three are NOT quitters !
Harisree saved the day here thank goodness ! Very good hide !

Another one, which took longer than expected. So many logs to look for, but as usual, I was not ready to give up. finally made the find bit away from the initial search spot. Extended search area with cool chairs will be my words for next finders. tftc.

12.10pm. This took a while and ZI nearly gave up. Found the log OK but no cache. Spent some time searching among the leaves and discovered it some distance from the log. Signed and the reunited the two for the next cacher.
Thank you. David.

A group of us met to tackle the HRT Thames to Paeroa leg of caches, including ourselves, yorkshirekiwi83, KirsTim, Tikitour and Vistra. We signed as the EasterBs (bunnies, or bikers? We couldn't decide). The ride took us longer than anticipated, but it still made for a great day of caching with some fantastic company.
A quick find while on route. Thanks to everyone who has placed all the caches along the trail today. We really appreciate all your hard work!

Earlier in the year, tikitour and I decided we would team up and cycle the whole Hauraki Rail Trail over the long Easter weekend and look for all the caches along the way. On Good Friday we did the Thames to Paeroa leg and we were joined by yorkshirekiwi83, vamber and kirstim. The weather was overcast today and luckily the rain held off until the end of the day - we had a great day out! This cache was soon found along the way. TFTC!

Headed down south for a long weekend of cycling, walking and of course caching. Teamed up with Vistra for the three days and were joined by 6 others on the Friday. Started here from Thames heading down to Paeroa on day one of the HRT. There are a group of 8 of us so we have signed the log as a group the Easter B's to save log room. Thanks for the cache.(sorry about the same log).
Joined up with Vamber, Yorkshirekiwi83, Vistra & Tikitour to hit the HRT Thames to Paeroa bike ride. A long but successful trip, with all but 1 cache signed. Weather held off with only a few spits of rain, thanks for laying all these caches.

Nice quick find, thank you to all who laid caches out along the trail TFTC

An enjoyable ride with some of the EU Crew, dodging showers and looking around the countryside. TFTC
We elected to stop here for our lunch, after calling at the Cheese Shop and seeing their "no eating your own food here" signs. This stop was well place in amongst the trees and offered some nice shade, and seats!
Yes, we signed the "log"
Found with a crew of four, consisting of TNX Pro, KiwiMikeBOP, Tony S and myself. Log signed as DMTM for Dave, Mike, Tony, Matt.

Today was the day to attack the final leg of the Rail Trail - the last part that I had left to do. I sent out the smoke signals and it was answered by Kiwimikebop, Splattynz and his father Tony. S. Log signed as DMTM for Dave, Mike, Tony, Matt.
This is a nice place to sit back and relax on the seats and eat our lunch in the shade. A cool cache found quickly. TFTC

The call went out from TNXPro for the final leg of the HRT we had left to do, so of course I could not miss this opportunity. Had a fantastic day out with TNX, Splatty and his Dad Tony. The weather was amazing and company great. Thank you to all the owners of the caches we found today
Awesome cache and awesome place to stop and have our lunch cool that there are some seats here

Today we decided to head to Thames. One.... to visit our favourite vineyard shop, lol, and two, to make a start on the HRT Series.
After a false start trying to find an entry point at the next cache down the line, Tunnel, we backtracked to a road where we could access the trail. Parked the Geomobile and unloaded the bikes. Geared up and hit the trail heading north. This one took us a little longer. Up and down, here and there, back and forth until finally Mr S uttered the magic words. Aha, we have one similar.
Thanks vectis. Good one.

Beautiful rest stop. gPS jumped about and so did I. Then bingo cache in hand thx. Off again as really enjoying this bike ride today.
Tftc. This was my fav of the day. Took a bit of hunting. Almost gave up. Then there she was. Nice!
Found it this time! Good work by the grandies had this one sorted quickly. Had to wait for some muggles on bikes to go past though. TFTC
First we decided to do the HRT with the inlaws. Then I started looking at if there were any caches around and saw all the one that was planted along the trail. My, there were not few, were they? Today we rented bikes in Thames and biked all the way to Te Aroha.
This was the first we tried for on the way down. Would probably not have been found without the youngest of Svesh who spotted it quickly.
