# 9534 Back in WA for a bit from Canberra. It always feels like summer when I'm here. We'll be travelling between Perth, Albany/Denmark and Margaret River over two weeks. While it's not a geo-trip, I should still be able to grab a few.Just as with the last one, this one had me stumped for a while and then I read the description. Fabulous work. I'd give it an FP if I had any spare Thanks roymerc for the Traditional Cache
We are on a road trip from the NSW/Vic border to Mandurah for a wedding and have spent the last three days caching around Albany and we are now heading to Augusta for the night via Denmark. This was a great gadget cache, which I didn't have any trouble retrieving
Aha! Figured this one out (yes, the sign and the hint helped) and managed to open the cache container to sign the log. TFTC roymerc, another enjoyable one.
Yeah nah, not doing this one today. We will come back to this town another time for sure, it's gorgeous. Next time we will be prepared for this one.
I came over to WA last year for WAGB 23 and had such a great time so I decided to come back over again for this years events in Augusta. So after all of the planning with dates worked out my work decided that I could only have one week off so flying over was my only option. So I flew into to Perth and my first stop will be Busselton for 2 nights. It has been 47 years since I was in this part of WA and Im really looking forward to the re visit.Im making my way down the coast and picking out caches that look interesting to me.After spending a bit of time in Bunbury it was back to the Geo Rent a Car to continue along the coast and I then made it to Busselton.Day 4 of the trip. After caching around Busselton, Dunsbourgh and Cape Naturaliste I reached Albany for 3 nights.Caught up with Roaming Howie last night and a plan was hatched to head to Denmark today (the one in WA not the country) to tackle most of roymerc caches.Well made and great caches were soon located and ye we did remember the batteries. We arrived at this one and checked the wet level an said nope.So we tried another path and his one was way better for access.Cache was soon found and signedAnother fav to the list. Thanks roymerc TFTC
Day #5. My last minute WAGB adventure continues today! Road tripping again. Ive now met up with Posums in Albany and we are off today on the much anticipated roymerc trail. Fun times ahead. We approached and was met by some deep water. I was prepared to explore but it was probably going to cost my my shorts. Being so early in the day it wasnt wise. But we found another much more shallower route and the cache was soon in hand. Another classic and another favourite.A big thanks goes to roymerc for taking the time to add BYOB #10 to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Wow! The fun just never stops.Have you logged your will attend for Victoria's first ever Block Party? (Think Mega but even more special!)Join us on 22-23 March 2025 in Sunbury to celebrate 25 years of geocaching by logging your will attend at [**GCAP417**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).
Write Note at 12:46:09PM on Sunday the 8 September 2024We're on our way to WA Goes Big, travelling from Croydon (Melbourne, Victoria) with a caravan in tow and making a leisurely caching holiday across the Nullarbor and back.Today we're wandering around and about grabbing a cache here and a cache there, lunching at the bakery and lots of walking.Whilst we walked right past this we decided not to chase the prize because the water was high in the tunnel and we weren't sure of how deep or what the base was like. This one will have to wait for our next trip sometime soon.**Thanks for placing this cache roymerc**---*WOW, so much happening here in Victoria*Dont forget to log your will attend for Victorias first ever Block Party in March 2025, the [**The Sunbury Event**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).Theres also all those lists of amazing geocaches at [Geocaching Victorias List webpage]( https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists), go check them out.
Hmmm. In the dark in the rain... No worries. Well, it took about 15 minutes, but finally knocked the b... off. Thanks for the cache
My first BYOB! So happy to have started that adventure, lets go for a big day of geocaching !!
We knew as soon as we saw it where #10 was going to be.. this spot was too good to ignore. We read the description again now we were confronted with the cache and proceeded. Nothing doing. Either we're as weak as a dried up leaf or this cache is a bit stuck. Another read of the instructions, though how can we not know them by this, and tried again. Same nothing. We left defeated... After finding the other caches along the trail we returned past #10. And of course we couldn't let it go without another try. Determination must be the key because eventually it opened. But now another conundrum.. there were swaps but where was the log..? Funny that no on else mentioned it. We left a replacement in a plastic bag, reset the cache and for the heck of it, tried it again. And again. It worked faultlessly both times. Yeah no...... we don't get it either. TFTanother excellentC roymerc.
Sturdy, well hidden and away from prying eyes, we had a lot of fun opening this one. A beautiful view from GZ and the area even comes with its own perfume. Very nicely done and thanks roymerc for the entertainment and fun adventure here today. Domsky
Very clever, GZ had us only 2m away but nothing in sight .....just another case of sazpazza being a little dumb! Found what we were looking for in a very nice, interesting spot, again we were a little baffled but after reading the description again we soon figured it out!Thank you again roymerc for placing and maintaining BYOB #10 for us and others to find and enjoy! Fave point again for ingenuity!
this one reminded me we need to read the cache pageArrived at GZ and soon had the cache in hand.Love the area and the flora & faunaSo many caches, so little time, which do we chooseCanetoads and cockroach on holidays in the West TMac61 and Bliss BabyTFTC
We have promised to be back in a reasonable amount of time so we can have lunch together. Trick when the area is so pretty and the caches so interesting. Love that the track is so wide and FLAT as my youngish, but still arthritic, knee is well over stairs at present. We saw a kayaker in the distance making me wish (once again ) I could have my boat with me but ah well that's not what this holiday is about. Next time though....Another interesting idea for a cache here, love that they are all different. tftc
Ciao e grazie. #10891Last day in Denmark, tomorrow we leave towards the west, the holidays are coming to an end. This morning BA has an appointment with a chiropractor for an annoying neck pain, DU takes the opportunity to make some smiley faces around the city.I arrive at the car park, backpack on my shoulders and set off along the path.I arrive at GZ but at first I don't understand where to look, I carefully reread the listing and I understand! A few moments to open and I sign the logbook. And the walk continues.Hello and thanks. #10891
Lovely day for strolling and caching. Like the variations in the BYOB theme. Another fav point. Tftc

TFTC. Good one to make us think around the corners literally. Got there in the end. Nice trail.
We met a fellow geocacher when we were staying at Narrogin who mentioned these caches. I rembered the name Denmark and as we happened to be going through here I mentioned that there were a few caches I would like to find. So we arrived at camp and got out the bikes to do a a bit of a ride and collect a few of these caches.I might try and get my nephew interested in this type of cache. He did have a electrical project that he liked playing with. Thanks for the cache
Well, well, its always nice to have something different.Loved the location, readily found GZ, but that was when the fun started. There was only one thing on this box to make it open and the battery on its own was not going to open it. Out of frustration Mrs Riddell resorted to PAF. She couldnt remember!! Sent her a photo but that didnt seem to help until I mentioned something I had noted and the flood gates opened and that was the key!It wasnt long after that we were back on the Heritage trail again.A Favourite point for this one for ingenuity and location?TFTC and something quite unique.
We continued down the trail and found a GZ as per the photos on the cache page. Nothing here, so where to from here? A quick look around and we had an idea! Another fun cache and it took us to a really nice spot we wouldnt have discovered otherwise. Thanks roymerc
And another BYOB ticked off - reading the description carefully certainly helped TFTC roymerc. Found on 1 Oct 2023 at 11:02. Find # 2795
Continuing along the trail and this was next on our list. We were scratching our heads for a bit as per usual with us, but eventually found where we needed to be. What a cool idea. Deserves yet another favourite point. Thanks roymerc
This was an awesome cache that was very well made, thank you for the effort put in to make it. Fav from me
In WA for 3 days, so I decided to hire a car and head south from Perth and drive around the wheat belt and back up the coast line. Day 2, after staying in Albany for the evening I headed off towards Busselton, first stop was Denmark to try and find all of the BYOB and a few other before making my way along the back roads finding a few caches along the way before caching around Busselton in the evening.
Thanks for the cache

Found the other week but forgot to log on here. We really loved this one it has been so great exploring new places that we haven’t seen in our hometown. TFTC
We have found this one many times. It has been our local for a long time. Many treasures exchanged.
Bingo bango - water level low so could complete the mission. That was a FUN surprise! Out and about on trusty treadles AKA the MTB that goes where I go. Home is some 3500 kms EAST and word had travelled I should look out for roymerc caches. Well - look out I did so I'm on a mission to discover why word has travelled the continent. Each of these have been clever quirky fun creative and sometimes hilarious BYOB gadgets - created to no doubt put a smile on the dial. Certainly built for longevity all hiders should take note - I have! TFTC and the memorable FUN!!
Another great cache location in Denmark. Applied nine volts and the log book was in hand.

After a few years away from WA I decided to return and visit family living in the south west.
It had always been a goal of mine to visit Roy Merc territory and today I feel blessed that I have had the opportunity to be here amongst some of the great caches offered.
I will spend NYE and NYD roaming the area collecting RoyMerc caches. It is why I decided to head down this way.
Around and around I went in circles until I decided to read the other logs. They came in handy.
Another masterpiece from the house of Roymerc.

Found this one in an attempt to reach 600 finds before 2023. Another cacher had told me about this one, so I knew where it was. It’s hard to get there because a tree had fallen across the path to it. Easy and fun to open. Number 596 for me.
I think we should make this Ron Merc day. I have loved these caches and my muggle determined friends that were NEVER EVER going to become caches just asked what the app looks like so they could download it. TFTC
We wandered to this cache and found a few people stopped at gz. Tried to stealthily suss out whether they were cachers, but seems they weren’t. Found the cache pretty quickly and delighted in this novel method of accessing the cache. Found with racingstripes, tftc
Well, that was cool. You can imagine it will be on a hot day too

A great one that isn't straight forward. Well done.
Tftc so cool but a large tree has fallen down blocking over half the track down to the tunnel piece so you have to walk all the way round the fallen tree
I confess that this one had me stumped for a bit until all became clear and I understood what was said in the description. Cache located and I soon had the log in hand. Signed and returned safely. Another wonderful cache. Cheers Roymerc
After thinking that Jarrah splits had a lot of flies, this one was roaring with the sound of them. Luckily the container was easy to find, my battery was charged and the mechanism was fairly straight forward. Another great cache!
Sadly, we found the box & key hole… then gave up after 20 mins. We weren’t sure if it was our battery.
Our last day in Denmark, we have really been energised by your terrific byob series & your superior hides. Thanks for keeping the game alive.

While the interstate travel is still a bit iffy we decided to spend the time touring southern WA.
We had a nice lunch and refreshments at the nearby brewery and decided we needed to walk it off and what better than a walk along the waters edge.
I arrived at GZ and looked around but I couldn't see anywhere I could put a battery so I thought I had better read the description. Ahh I need to look a little further. It was a bit of a scramble to get down as a tree has fallen over the path and you have to climb over it. Finally made it to the cache but now where to put the battery to open it.
I eventally found the keyhole and had to work out how to use the key.
I eventally got there.
A favourite from me.
This was find number 9 for the day.

THis one had us a little confused then Geo mum suggested what was in plain sight, Geo son and Geo dad soon arrived where they need to be. Geo daughter was next ot follow. A very clever cache roymerc, unfortunatley there is no log sheet and we had nothing with us.
We owe this one a fav point too. Bravo!
Somewhere between day 170 and day 180 since we left home and stated our ‘lap year’. Half way in our original time estimation we are not even close to half way around the country, Tassy and SA are done (still plenty to go back and see) …hmm I guess we won’t be ‘home’ for Christmas….oh well… (shhh don’t tell the grandparents)… or maybe we could freight the children home for Christmas? ! Geogranni would like that!
Perhaps if I/we stopped looking at so many amazingly stunning rocks, trees and beaches we wouldn’t be taking so long…then there are the flowers, old things and street art that keeps catching our attention.. maybe it’s the Geocaches… what ever it is, we are having a bloody brilliant time and I wouldn’t change a thing!
Thanks for being one of the awesome caches we found around Denmark this week, a big shout out to the Geocachers of Denmark, some outstanding caches that has us considering some more power trails (generally avoid them) just to get enough Fav points together to award for all these fabulous caches!

So, while out doing the walk track to pick up all of the BYOB caches we came across BYOB #10!! The access to the cache was completely surrounded by knee deep water so I had to make a decision whether to take my shoes off, roll up my trackies and get the cache or whether to walk away without a smiley.
A split second decision and the shoes went off! The water was absolutely freezing and I nearly gave up trying to open the cache but then @jamesknowlson got in the water with me and we both couldn’t stop laughing when we realised the cache was easier to open then I thought! Despite the water, the geocache was still absolutely amazing and we had a great experience!!
This cache definitely made the walk a whole lot more interesting and for that have a FP!! The whole lot of your BYOB caches deserve a favourite point but sadly I don’t have enough to give them all one so this cache is the one that deserves it! TFTC roymerc:)

Chwiliwr and I woke up early to start heading to Denmark for todays WAGB 2021 activities.
This was cache number 22 for today. Chwiliwr did the honors and braved the cold water to arrive at ground zero for this cache.
Cache found without problems. Log was signed and cache returned as we found it.
Thanks roymerc for placing this cache for us to find.

We travelled from Portland Victoria across to WA to see our daughter in Perth. Now we are slowly heading home via Yallingup, the Fitzgerald NP and Denmark.
We have now Yallingup and are heading towards Denmark for a few days. With the van unpacked and the washing on the line we jumped on the bikes and toured the town.
Aah very tricky- cache was accessible today but I can see it would be difficult at times.
Thanks for showing us this part of the world roymerc

After a very enjoyable day in Denmark we were about to make our way back to the caravan park in Albany. RoyMerc geocaches are so very enjoyable and we are such a long way from home and not likely to be back for another long while so...... why not just do a couple more. Ian is suffering with plantar fasciitis, yesterdays’ Parkrun making it painful to walk. I didn’t think he would be willing to try these few on the old railway trail. I walked on ahead with Mac and he slowly caught up, I was still turning circles to find GZ. I ventured further a field to take photos, Ian followed and quickly disappeared down a “rabbit hole”. A yell and the cache had been found - it doesn’t take Ian long to work out the technique required to open the cache. While Ian held Mac, I ventured in to try my luck in unlocking this mystery but needed Ians’ expert assistance or we might still be there now!
A favorite from us. Thanks RoyMerc we love your geocaches.

Won’t be long now. I’ve repaired and strengthened some damaged parts to improved the abuse resistance. Made a new cover plate to replace the one that went ‘missing.’ A new coat of paint, a new logbook, a top up of swag and we are ready to go. Just have to book the geo-boss to come and help with the installation.
Shutdown for the wet season. Can get a bit dangerous if there is a lot of rain, and we have been promised a lot of rain! Don't complain, we need it.
Also it's time for maintenance. It has gotten very rusty and someone has removed and lost the key cover.
BYOB#10 will be back in the Springtime.

When we realised where this one was we were a little nervous. We have previously had to abort attempts in similar locations. And we could see water emanating.
But it turned out to be a trickle rather than a flood and so were were able to locate another well made and securely mounted cache hide.
We used the needed tool and the cache revealed itself to us. We continue to be impressed by the variations and the mechanisms. Another FP - becoming routine now.
Only a couple more on the route.

In Denmark for the next few days, staying up on Mt Shadforth road.
After spending the morning exploring town with the family I dropped them back at the accomodation then spent an hour or so hunting a couple of geocaches.
Quick find here once at GZ. Bumped into another team while here, always good to meet others in the field. Another great creation here, have a fav point. TFTC

We were exploring here a couple of days ago and came across this cache. Returned today with the tools to tackle it. Great stuff, roymerc, all in order although it might be working its way off the wall? (One of the nuts has gone).
