decided because the weather was ok today i would ride back to here, nice weather didn't last long, is that normal, well the moped didn't like the climb but it got me here, view is probably amazing on a good day but still saw a lot today, even snow on the far hills, tftc

The aim was to hire a bike in invercargill and ride out to bluff, but we decided to drive and just ride some of the way later. We did a quick loop walk out here in the days leading up to our big Kepler track hike. Before heading home and after a yummy lunch of seafood chowder we went up to this viewpoint. Thanks for the info and bringing us here.

I had collected the information some time ago for this cache but never logged it. So I went up to the top again today. It was very windy and exposed here but what a great view. We had some fun with walking up and down the path due to the strong wind, one side was a struggle into a headwind and the other side you were pushed very quickly. It was very amusing. This is a very interesting area, and it is easy to forget the major volcanic activity that must have been around at the time to create this beautiful landscape. TFTC.

**This is a write not for now to keep my finds in order. Once I've done the homework I'll update this log. **I'm down from Paihia for the Dunedin Mega event. We did a lot of caching around there between Friday and Sunday. Then on Monday we went down to Invercargill. The plan was 1 day coming down picking up puzzles as we headed south. Tuesday was doing the Big I and the penguin series. Fortunately we also had time to collect Cliften Swing Bridge and Monkey Island. Today is Curio Bay, Slope Point and Bluff as well as a few in Invercargill. Thursday was driving to Middlemarch for the old Donovan cache while collecting a lot of solved puzzles on the way and generally doing most of Middlemarch. Friday we headed up to Christchurch where I was going to spend the weekend with my cousin before flying home on Sunday. We had a great day today despite having to wait out a few showers. Our initial plan was to do Bluff first but the tide was right to go and do the Curio Bay earthcaches and Slope Point first. We then headed down to Bluff. It was very windy here today and we got blown about heading up to the lookout. I was very appreciative of my wet weather gear keeping me dry. Thanks for the earthcache Smile**No oyster was harmed in Bluff by this geocacher. **

A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island. So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in last Saturday week ago after a bit of a delay. So now for a couple of days around Invercargill. So Day 11 of my Mega NZ trip begins and Im on my own again so Im just picking out random caches that I had put on my list.No rain but everything was very wet under foot and I loved walking through long grass (Not)After finding a big I around the country side now to concentrate on a few others.I headed down to Bluff to spend a few hours down there and check out the views.Made my way up to the Bluff Hill lookout and what fantastic views from up here in all directions.Did some reading and went for a walk around the area as well. Thanks TheWanglers TFTEC.

The citys quiet enough youd think it was sleeping, but I know better. Ankh-Morpork doesnt sleepit lies in wait.I swear the fog's thicker tonight. Carrot says its "atmospheric." I say it's nature's way of helping people sneak up behind you. Saw something skitter down an alley just now. Could be a rat, could be Nobby scrounging for loose change. Probably best not to know. Then there's the usual suspects: the Guilds doing their rounds, all polite and "authorized." A "legal" thief is about as trustworthy as the sausages down at Hargas. Still, it beats cleaning up the mess when theyre "unauthorized."Only a few more hours till dawn. Which just means Ill be seeing everything clearly for the first time, and trust me, thats rarely an improvement.

Hlsningar frn Sverige, sdra Lappland Then it was time for a little adventure. The trip goes to Sydney in Australia and then on to Christchurch and Dunedin in New Zealand .On the trip are, Tigertassen, myself, ursus67, Lnganfans and Pidjas go, which means that we log under the common name "Tulp". The idea is that before we go home we should have visited a Megaevent, Geo Toroa. Greetings from Sweden, southern Lapland

Logging in anticipation of correct answers.Found alongside Sunflowers26 during a weekend in Invercargill. With a focus on Earthcaches this month, we decided to aim for some of the local ones, starting here. We probably didn't get the best views due to the weather (cold, wet, windy) but it was well worth driving up here - I enjoyed it thoroughly. I don't think I'd ever laid eyes on Rakiura before, even though I've been to Bluff once or twice. Also a nice little learning experience with the Earthcache. Cheers!

We arrived in Invercargill today, flying in from Auckland. Tomorrow we fly to Stewart Island for some tramping and geocaching. So today we drove to Bluff as we have never been here before and there were a few caches that I wanted to find including this one. It was windy and rainy when we arrived but the sun soon came out, so had a reasonable view. I have sent my answers to the CO. Thanks for the interesting EC

Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. After 7 weeks driving around through Australia we arrived the 2th November in New Zealand. For ten days we will cross the Northern Island and than for 2 weeks the Southern Island.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case TheWanglers, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.

17/9/2023 Find #6542Day 9 of the Fangsoki/1MinnieMoo New Zealand South Island adventure. The weather today was rather uninspiring. But we had target caches to get. So we headed off this morning hopeful of a day of achievements. First stop was going to be the Bluff, but with the wet weather rolling in we decided to switch it up and head to our furthest planned for the day in the other direction and make our way back to the Bluff in the hope that the weather may ease a little. And as it turns out that ended up being a good idea. While the weather was still not amazing, and the chilly winds were certainly blowing us about, we managed to mostly avoid being out at caches while it was raining, only driving through the rain at times. We parked the car and dashed in to find the old Bluff Hill cache first, then decided to brave the freezing winds a little longer and head up the top to check this out, and in doing so claim the earthcache as well. Boy it was blustery!! But while I was up here I did do my best to run around in circles for a while and get my step count for the day up too! Until a car full of people turned up (who did not seem overly chuffed with life either). But with answers gleaned, we headed off, back to the refuge of the warm campervan. Thanks for the cache TheWanglers.

Before I took the ferry to Stewart Island, I climbed Bluff Hill - especially to close the penultimate gap in my Jasmer Matrix. Then I followed the snail path to this vantage point. It's nice here!

Maybe try updating the cache name. By now, Groundspeak should also be able to handle UTF-8 characters.

I'm doing a road trip through Southland. Today's leg is from Dunedin to Invercargill by way of the Catlins and Bluff. Old School Challenge caches are the focus of the trip, but there's a few others to look for along the way as well. After finding Bluff Hill. I made my way up the spiral to do the Earth Cache. I was extremely windy at the top. This made it quite difficult to hold the page of questions and jot down some answers. I resorted to sitting down below the parapet. Lots of fun and an informative E.C. TFTC

We found our way here on 12 Dec to gaze at the stunning view of the surrounds. Spent a bit more time to get the answers and send those on. Ethness put the call out to ask if any local cachers were available to show us around, after we got off Rakiura and before our flight home. What resulted was a magic few hours including visiting here. TFTC and to the hospitality of the local crew - I had a great time.

Another earth cache to learn about the geology if Southland -Bluff in particular. Fantastic.
'Bluff Hill - Older than Aotearoa' -I do like that statement.
Good to visit the top of the hill -31 years after I was last in Riverton/Invercargill. The views are amazing -I spent a lot of time taking them in, I nearly forgot to complete the requirements to log this cache. More new learning about the geology of the area. Many thanks for bringing me here The Wranglers -favourite given.

Cache 850 ?? FOUND PRE COVID LOCKDOWN, was saving this one for earth cache day 2021 but needed to log now to reach this months mountain peak challenge. Answers have been sent to CO, it was a lovely warm day when we visited Bluff hill grabbing a couple of caches along the way, I stored away the info for this cache for a later date and the time to log is now. The views are always spectacular from the top of Bluff hill on a nice day but the wind is usually chilly, it was great to learn a little bit about these rocks which was pretty cool ?? ??T4TEC ????

A trip has been planned for 4 days away (1-4th May, 2021) to collect all off “RIMA” – part of the Pokai Whenua Geo Tour in the bottom third of the South Island including Stewart Island. This time round, there is myself, rustynz, Rebel98, FMZ and his skeleton called Bruce. We have picked up a car at Dunedin airport and will return there.

We have little time before we need to scuttle off to the Stewart Island ferry, but there's enough time to do this EC. The last time I was here (21-10-19), it was bitterly cold and raining, me and Rebel and rusty only did the old trad back then. But today the weather is much nicer and we were able to enjoy the views and get fotos and complete the details for this cache.

Thanks very much TheWanglers for this.

Day 15 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm still in catch-up mode)

Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.

I haven't been this far south since my very first holiday to NZ back in 1988, so this part of my tour is a chance to pay Southland a long overdue visit. And of course this is my first time here as a geocacher, so plenty of scope to find caches galore! Today's plan was to spend the morning in and around Invercargill before making my way over towards Monkey Island and then meandering my way up to hopefully get to Queenstown by nightfall. Having had a bit of damp weather over the last day or so, it was good to get the sun back today.

Having treated myself last night to a powered site for the campervan at a motor camp, I was feeling clean and refreshed as I set off to drive to Bluff. There were a few people around, fellow tourists I guess, as I pulled up at the carpark at the end of the road. Then it was a pleasant stroll along the spiral footpath to get to GZ. Once there, I was able to enjoy the fantastic views and gather my information, and take plenty of photos.

Thanks for setting up this Earthcache. Worth a FP for encouraging me to visit here.

Thanks TheWanglers for being a CO and providing us with a chance to learn. This one gets a heart from us. AF-Bee sent the information on be half of the group.

On a caching trip with Bennett24, travelling around Otago and Southland collecting TMGT caches, oldies, solved puzzles and anything else interesting that we thought we would enjoy. It is the third day of our trip and we are travelling between Tuatapere and Tokanui and collecting a few goodies. After getting the rare old trad near here I was keen to get the earthcache too and was very happy to collect the info for this one.

Took the walk up to GZ and while wandering around met a work colleague who was also holidaying in the area. Quite a coincidence

Answers sent to the CO - hope OK to log - thanks for the Earthcache..

On a caching weekend to Otago and Southland with Tuolei to pick up old caches, TMGT's, CANZ, solved puzzles and any others that caught our eye along the way. We had a 4 day long weekend planned that would take us around Dunedin on the first day, Tuatapere via Sutton, Balcutha, Mataura and Winton on the second day, Tokanui via Riverton, Invercargill and Bluff on the third day and then back to Dunedin via the Catlins on the last day. Overall we did 1578km and picked up just under 100 caches and managed to knock off most of the caches we had on our list.

After grabbing the nearby elderly cache we headed up to the lookout point and stopped at all the info boards to gather the required answers for this cache; have sent them to the CO. Great views from the top and interesting to see the smelter looking out over the harbour that obviously has a large influence in the area. TFTC

Here was very windy!!

I wanted to do a stop here for the view, but most for the old geocache also placed here. Unfortunatelly that one was a DNF, but this earthcache + the view was not that bad...

Answers sent to CO.

Finally our trip to New Zealand is real! We started with half a day in Singapore and then we continued to New Zealand before finalizing the trip with 2 days in Sydney.

We have been able to see a lot, fantastic nature, many different and new birds and also a "few" geocaches.

Thanks a lot for the cache - Greetings from Sweden!
