Logs
Found neatly tucked awayin a hole specially made for the cache although probably a few thousand years ago found with ZEALOG
Solved the puzzle last night, and now happened to walk by the calculated end. Seems the solution was fine, as the log got signed. Thanks!
Solved of course also this one before heading on to this oldie track.Nice little game, thanks for the fun!
I'm down from Paihia for the Dunedin Mega event. We did a lot of caching around there between Friday and Sunday. Then on Monday we went down to Invercargill. The plan was 1 day traveling down picking up puzzles as we headed south. Tuesday was doing the Big I and the penguin series. Fortunately we also had time to collect Cliften Swing Bridge and Monkey Island. Wednesday was Curio Bay, Slope Point and Bluff as well as a few in Invercargill. Today was driving to Middlemarch for the old Donovan cache while collecting a lot of solved puzzles on the way and generally doing most of Middlemarch. Friday we headed up to Christchurch where I was going to spend the weekend with my cousin before flying home on Sunday. I do like these puzzles but it took me 5 attempts to solve this one back in November 2023. Glad to pick up a puzzle find here along with the 3 other types. Thanks for your cache
Found with Gazania Rigens and Wombatwandering as per their logs, with thanks to Wws brilliant daughter CuteOtter for the solve!Skilful camo by the previous finders kept this a tricky find; so gratifying to find!TFTC
Having had a busy geocaching weekend in Dunedin, at the MEGA, matagouri and I are now continuing on with our holiday 'road trip'.On our way to Sutton salt lake, for the last of my targeted 'oldie' caches, and what a beautiful day for a walk!My partner solved this one for his last trip here, so it was a straight forward find today. Thanks for setting this up
Really enjoying the walk around the lake and in fact Otago in general and the hospitality. Many thanks for the puzzle and the hide.
I had a crack at solving this a while back when thinking about maybe coming out this way for the old cache during the mega but didn't do very well so gave up. A week before we flew down I relooked at it, first attempt I nearly got and second I did. Nice easy find. Thanks Kev the Orienteer#17433
We had outsourced the solve of this puzzle to WW's daughter who didn't need much time to have the solution ready for us. At GZ we kept looking in every crevice but couldn't see the cache. It turned out to be pretty much on the coordinates, just cleverly camouflaged. TFTC!
While preparing for this trip, we forced my daughter CuteOtter to solve this one for us. She did it much faster than it took us to find it. The last finders did an excellent job with the camo but Gazania Rigens got the find while Zouavesauvage and I were poking about elsewhere. Thanks for the fun.
Two weeks holiday in New Zealand with laalaa. Now going round Lake Sutton in wet and cold conditions Awesome round. Long search, but found. Thanks for the mystery.
Think I might have been a goat in my former life or a mastermind..suprisingly solved it on my first attempt while finishing lunch at a nearby Cafe. Loved the walk..
Day 1 of my 6 day trip to Dunedin to attend the Mega and clean up all the puzzle caches solved over the last few years. Todays journey took us from the airport via some of the new DT 81 puzzles to Middlemarch and then back to Dunedin. All caches done today were with Bruzie. Apologies for the generic logs. Thanks for all the puzzles, caches, find, frustration and enjoyment. It was very windy and we weren't sure if we should do the walk or not, but very glad we did the whole circuit..
This is day one of my Dunedin Mega trip, the first time I've ever been here before (never mind geocaching). Obviously with such a plethora of caches to find there's going to be plenty I'll skip but I hope to find my targets. Unfortunately logging is going to be generic, but thank you to all the cache owners and event organisers for the things you do.Fascinating rock formations. They look like giant petrified trees. All good here, and thank you to Kev the Orienteer for the placement of your Mystery Cache.Find #7192 at 24 October 2024 2:23pm
So cool to get this one took a few moments but found it cache all good here lovely walk this evening now back to Middlemarch for some tea and SOME WELL NEEDED RR tftpc

Nice puzzle. Fun game. We are finding lots of scat on this trek. Sheep? Goats? Deer? Don't know. TFTC
This has been in the solved pile for a while. Today Team MAD left early to collect all the caches around the lake. TFTP

Cache nice and dry and in good order. Now on around the loop to take a look at the lake .I have veen to middlemarch a few times when i called central Otago home but never up here .Thank for the hide. Getting out and about in to the out doors is my happy place so any excuse to go caching. Out and about on day 7 of my South Island Tour and day 1 of "Wellingtonions Gone South: Dunedin Edition" with NZ_B, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri. The target of this day was mainly Sutton Lake and some other oldies. All logs signed as MINT. TFTC
(# 8262) The Wellington crew are on another mission. Included are Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, TwigNZ, Matagouri and TaybeeNZ. As usual quite a bit of hilarity. Day 1 was more of a travel around where we went to Sutton Lake then up to Seacliff. A lovely day for a walk with the crew. Signed as MINT.Thanks Kev the Orienteer for bringing me here.
Day 1 of our Dunedin Adventure - six welly cachers have arrived with lots of plans and caches to find. Watch out Dunedin! We have come to this gorgeous landscape for the oldie and had enough time to venture here. I had solved in advance on the off chance. A super fun puzzle with a touch of luck that I was blessed with after 3 attempts. All logs signed as MINT. Thank you Kev the Orienteer.
We continued walking amongst the rocks to find this puzzle.Day 1 of The Wellingtonians are in Dunedin tour with TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri, as well as TaybeeNZ who decided to have a few days of his South Island tour with us. We are targeting specific caches -oldies, wherigos (thanks to the Seagnoids new caches on the Wainuiomata Hill road in Lower Hutt), a certain jet and hopefully a certain bird. Of course, there will be days of laughter, no doubt at my expense During our time here, all found caches were signed as MINT, regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 5 of us hadn't found it previously, or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache Kev the Orienteer.
A group of friends have traveled together to Dunedin to collectively target a whole bunch of caches, primarily because of their value in terms of Jasmer Grid filling, or for certain Challenge Caches that we have elected to try to achieve.M.M.I.N.T.T are Mr-Mcgoo, matagouri, Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, taybee nz and TwigNZ. Some logs were signed this way, some were signed as M.I.N.T for expediency, and some were signed with individual names.Today the big target was getting up to visit Sutton Salt Lake, which is something we have all wanted to do for a long time. We all knew the significance of being here, and were happy to be blessed with a fantastic day on which to come. Having found GC153, we carried on to make further finds including this one. No problems making the find here, and no issues to report with the cache or log which soon had our team name in it. Thank you for placing this cache for all to find.
A visit to Dunedin by Wellington geocachers NZ_B, Itchyfeet2020, TwigNZ, Mr-Mcgoo, Taybeen NZ, and myself. Signing as Team MINT, targeting old caches, Wherigos, and whatever else we can find.Having found GC153, we decided to push on for a couple more. This was the second that we came across, having been previously solved. A quick find, quicker than it took to beat the game. All good inside. Tftc!
Took awhile, but we got there. Glad I solved the puzzle correctly to find this while visiting. TFTC
A southern adventure for a wee family Easter school holiday trip. After a few days in Dunedin we were now heading up to Naseby for a couple days...and hopefully some fine weather!
Coming this way to Naseby it'd be rude not to stop at one of the oldest caches in NZ, and do a bit of a walk. Rain held off and a lovely walk....but with all the previous nights rain it was rather squidgey under foot! Nice to tick this one off. Thanks.

I solved the puzzle - it’s quite addictive - but I must have written the coordinates down wrongly. Getting to the area today, I best-guessed what the correct ones were. Thank goodness I picked the correct spot and found the cache after a short search. Thanks for the fun puzzle and cache.
Solved this one at home. So it was great to have the opportunity to collect this one. Once we had the right rock we soon located. Thanks for the puzzle and cache.
I remember playing the game many years ago. Did not take too long to get back into the groove. Thanks.
Day two of my road trip through Southland. Today's journey takes me from Invercargill back to Mosgiel. Old School Challenge caches are the focus of the trip. I arrived at the carpark just after 4 pm, there was hardly a breath of wind and it was quite mild. After finding GC153, I then continued around the loop. What a special place, I enjoyed the majestic scenery and the solitude of my own company. Once I started playing the right version of the game I soon had an answer. I found the nicely hidden cache after a short search. Cheers and TFTC
After a few attempts at the puzzle a correct solution was found and we were able to add this to our finds while out for a wander. TFTC
Kicking myself as I only thought to look at the description at the lake, and the cache was back the way we came. Kicking myself a second time, but won't give away why. Solved on second go, thanks to a bit of luck. We used to play as kids. Thanks.
Solved this this morning before coming out here.
Took me a few runs to get a sense of the game and I had it solved pretty quickly after.
Found the cache easily. Thanks!

Solved this one a long while ago and finally today was the day to get the final. Interesting place. Didn’t see a single soul when we were here. Saw many skinks and one gecko though. A bit stinky by the water and we wondered if that smell was normal. TFTC.
Was a quick solve during lockdown. Used to play at school with a pocket set in the 1970's. Thanks.
Used to play this game a lot so knew what to do and made a quick game to get the required information, Then played again just for fun. Making our way around the track and collecting caches along the way. Another quick find here. tftc
TFTC. The last day of my family trail adventures around Middlemarch and Macraes.
I decided to walk around the Sutton Salt Lake. What a magical location.
So pleased I had solved this puzzle. First time the log has been signed in over a year.

On a caching weekend to Otago and Southland with Tuolei to pick up old caches, TMGT's, CANZ, solved puzzles and any others that caught our eye along the way. We had a 4 day long weekend planned that would take us around Dunedin on the first day, Tuatapere via Sutton, Balcutha, Mataura and Winton on the second day, Tokanui via Riverton, Invercargill and Bluff on the third day and then back to Dunedin via the Catlins on the last day. Overall we did 1578km and picked up just under 100 caches and managed to knock off most of the caches we had on our list.
When I looked around the area where we were going I was glad to see a puzzle here - and it is a good one too! I was expecting it to cause e a bit of trouble but managed to solve it on the second time I tried. The hide did not cause too much trouble though. I often think it would be nice to have more puzzles to solve like this one and am happy to give a FP for it. TFTC.

Out and about on day one of Bennett24 and my holiday to the south to look for interesting caches including oldies, solved puzzles, geotour caches, and interesting types. The cache shortly down the path was a target for its old age and of course while here we collected the other caches. Bennett24 mentioned this puzzle to me on the evening of our first trip and seeing what to do I had the good fortune to solve it first go which was very lucky.
Walking the route here to collect all of the caches and this was on our way to an earthcache so quickly stopped in and collected. A little cache it took a small amount of hunting but found it with a bit of perseverance and signed in, replaced as found. Thanks for the interesting puzzle and cache placement - all good here.

I am a bit of a failure at Mastermind it seems. Remarkable to have cell phone coverage here! After a dozen attempts on my phone's small screen I decided to paf. Her son helped us. Thanks for the puzzle. Will try it again at home on my computer.

I enjoyed playing the game. My afddult son helped me problem solve this one. JDScout and I are on a pre Xmas campervan holiday. Geocaching is on my agenda. We both like biking and walking too. Thanks Kev the Orienteer for placing this geocache it is find 8051 for me.
Sadly there was no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland.
======== NZ Mega 2020 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2020 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. Thanks for hiding this geocache.

I used to be quite good at Mastermind as a kid. Tried it just to see if I could and - hey! - still got it. Don't know when I'll be back down in South Island though...
I sub contracted the solving to otbers in the family, so I could add this one to today's collection, tftc. Took me a bit to find, must be getting tired, Tftc
Went looking for this but the cache is half way out in a field. Well, that can't be right! Oh! Look! we have cellular data! I did a quick resolve and found the problem - one digit was hard to read due to where the coordinates were placed on the screen (I call that a programming fail!).
The problem is, when Taybeedragon and I were caching in that area, we forgot about it. Oh well. Next time.

A planned geocaching trip with specific targets in mind.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 8 Rakiaia to Middlemarch 18 caches found including one of the target caches. I am no mastermind but I enjoyed playing this game. I had played it in the past. The find though had me going until I spotted the hide. Thank you for the placement.

Parked up for the old cache here, we were lucky to have a strong 4g connection, which enabled us to solve this clever puzzle. I think we were lucky with our guesses here as we had the answer by line 5 on our first attempt.

We are on our summer holiday driving around the South Island with no real idea of where we will end up each day. We are often drawn to an area that has the potential to give us a few geocaching smilies and somewhere we have not spent time exploring before. In some cases we are revisiting placed that we have been before but liked so much we are going there again.
While in Dunedin we were mostly searching for the old caches that fill a gap on our date placed grid and some Challenge caches that fill a gap on our D/T grid.
This was on the way to two of our targeted caches at Sutton Salt Lake.
I really enjoyed the puzzle and the area that the cache is hidden in and so we think this deserves a favourite from us
Thank you for placing the cache and thank you for the smiley

On our 5th day in New Zealand we travelled from Dunedin to Wanaka. One of our goals was to get the old cache at Sutton Lake in between. Of course once being at the track we wanted to do the whole tour and it was really worth while! We enjoyed the scenery very much and also the variety of caches and cache types was great. We could find them all easily and therefore make one log for them all. We solved the puzzle already back home and could go here straight to the final. TFTC and greetings from Switzerland
Zusammen mit apaspa die Cachetour von Dunedin nach Wanaka gemacht. Wir wanderten die Runde und dieser war der einer von sieben. TFTC
Today we made a roundtrip beginning in Sutton and ending in Mt. Cargill, visitng some new sightseeing locations and looking for old caches. On this trip we searched, found and logged a lot of caches, too. The weather was between cold in the morning until warm in the afternoon, but no rain at all.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had other things to do than observing harmless geocachers.
The puzzle had been solved at home. Thanks to Kev the Orienteer for showing us this location and for the fun we had at Mastermind (Otago). The search we had here today didn't take too much time.
Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

Having to cater for Flash was painful, but otherwise straightforward puzzle and interesting idea. Had to make careful circuit of likely object before finding the cache. Cheers Kev the Orienteer!
Solved this puzzle ages ago and wondered when I would get here but saved it in my phone just in case.
Taking the other way home from Naseby and had got away just after lunch so had time to collect these cache.
Collecting points for planetary pursuit challenge am in the 400’s so not too many more to find and puzzles give me more points.

Nice warm wet day, for a bit of caching in a area I have not been to for a few years.many Thanks Bitsprayer
Its been many years since I last played Mastermind, so I had to look up instructions on the "rules" of play. I had solved this last year (April 2017) and had hoped to have cycled down from Middlemarch after completing the Otago Rail Trail. Sadly not enough time to get there and back, as I would have missed my train. So kept the final co-ords safe with my other puzzle solves, hoping for a return visit. Today was that day!
So with a refresh on how to play, I was soon at my first attempt, and with a few moves I soon had the answer to the final. Love it when that happens
Another thankyou for creating this clever little puzzle. I had a lot of fun solving and today got the bonus of finding and signing the cache.

Never played Mastermind, never had the inclination to do so and hence I needed some help to solve this one, doesn't help that I'm colour-blind as well, and now I have this solved I'll never play it again!
We 3 (rusty and Rebel and myself) are down from Auckland for 3 days of caching, We regularly go away together for 3-4 day caching trips. And today this is our first day of our adventures.

In Middlemarch on a caching weekend with BCD. Up bright and early to head to Sutton Salt Lake for a bit of a stroll. I have never been here before and today was a beautiful hot summers morning which made for stunning views all around. A bit of help from BCD to solve this one and then a nice quick find. TFTC
Last minute road trip to middlemarch with kjr. Its been 3 years to the day since I was last down this way .good to be back to pick up the new caches on the trail and the ones I hadn't solved this was one of those .

Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day 7 of our road trip to the Oamaru Geofest, taking the scenic route, of course. Today we are travelling from Dunedin to Oamaru, via Middlemarch.
I played this game lots as a child so no trouble with the solve. Good to turn a puzzle into a smile on our walk. TFTC.

We enjoy a game of Mastermind and got the co-ords for this cache in three moves. Very hot on the walk this afternoon, so we were pleased that we had brought drinks with us. Got to GZ and spotted the hide after checking a few possible locations. Thanks.
I just noticed this one this morning while looking at the caches round the lake. So I had one go but didn't really get the hang of what I needed to do so then played a few simpler games on the internet before having another proper go - took four of them before I managed to get those red dots in the right order. Brings back memories the old game of Mastermind, thank you for taking me back to my childhood. Coordinates were accurate and along with the others in this series, becomes obvious there is a theme of where the caches are hiding. TFTC.
I thought I would give this puzzle a go. I am very pleased to be given the final coords on the first try. So today I was out at the Sutton Salt Lake signing off the other caches and glad to be able to sign this one as well.
Cheers for the cache and puzzle.
Cheers for the cache and puzzle.
Another fun cache we found as we walked around the Sutton Salt Lake area. We were searching around for the final when a jogger going past asked us if we were looking for a Geocache - turns out it was the cache owner! Very nice to meet you in the flesh... Thanks for the smiley!
On Tour together with Sabe73 as Team "TheBros" around South Island to visit some nice spots.
We also visited this location and could find the box almost quickly.
Thank you for showing us this place and of course for the Cache.

Headed down south with C&D and 11HPG11 for the CHCH Mega as part of the HOAC team, and decided that a Mega road trip/Mega Mission was the right thing to do. We landed in CHCH late Friday night and after picking up the rental car we bee-lined it straight to Dunedin to grab a few hours sleep before the mission truly started.
The goal for today was to locate a certain few geocaches which help for certain challenges that we are all currently working on, and to explore some pretty cool country, before getting to tomorrows starting point in Omarama. We thoroughly enjoyed this day of the mission and saw some pretty awesome places, and managed to achieve most of what we wanted. A big thanks to everyone for placing all the caches, and I apologize in advance for the copy and past logs!
What a amazing spot, we all enjoy ourselves as we wandered around this place. Managed to finally complete the NZ Jasmar Challenge here as well which is something I've been slowly working on over the past year or so. Also managed to lose my phone for 30mins or so as it had fallen out of my pocket but used the track back on the GPS and retraced my steps and eventually found it.
Had a bit of luck with this puzzle as I guessed all four colours on the first try, and it took only a few more moves to get the colours in order. I don't think I was that lucky when I play the game as a kid. Took a bit of hunting to locate the final but eventuallly got there. Thanks for the cool puzzle and hide.

What a Mega Mission for a group of Hamilton Over Achievers! A great trip, a long time in the planning. I teamed up with Cats&Dragons and HKCB to grab a couple of caches while in Christchurch and surrounding areas for the 2015 Mega Event. We flew out from Auckland on Friday night and traveled to Dunedin in the dark of the night. Stopped for a few hours sleep before setting off to grab caches in the Otago area on Saturday before attempting a few more on Sunday and then arriving at the Mega on the Monday. An amazing, yet crazy road trip that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
I loved this game growing up, so was very excited to see this puzzle. A great idea and I had a blast playing around with it. Thanks for the cool puzzle and great cache location.

This was the start of a MEGA caching weekend in the company of good caching friends. In the company of both HKCB & 11HPG11 this was going to be another memorable caching road trip for many reasons.
After driving down from Christchurch last night, sleeping in the car in Dunedin , and getting a good early start this is the practice day for the planned mission for tomorrow , thats not to say we are not taking the day seriously, but there were roads to travel, views to see (so unlike what we were used to in the Waikato) and of course caches to grab.
All in all it was going to be a big day with a number of challenges, great sceanery, and of course great company. Fantastic driving along and up here as the landscape was so different from what we are used to back in the Waikato. One good thing about backroads being that we could continue our neferious activites without being disturbed by muggles.
Have been up here once before but it was very early in the morning, and I needed to get a flight later that day so when I was here it was still pretty much darktime. In the full light of the day the area is spectacular.
Nice quick find here without any issues . We were all Blown away by the beauty of the place we were standing in
thanks for the placement , thanks for the cache

Found with Chosen1978 and Gypsy Rose58 at Sutton Salt Lake Event, Puzzle solved and with the the other attendees of the event we all managed to find the cache. The weather starting to close in.
I'd solved this one not long after it was first published, but we'd never quite made it back here to grab it. Nice to finally tick the box and sign the log. Found with Aoraki Sheep and Woody104
3rd cache for the day. The puzzle took a couple of goes before I latched on to what to do. Then it was plain sailing. Thanks for the game and cache.
Found in the company of fellow event-goers. Having heard that there was a puzzle nearby, I immediately went about solving it, and clocked it first try - it was the first time I'd tried this game since learning about the solving trick many years ago... Still, worth it to grab some coordinates. Cheers!
Took a few attempts before I got the numbers and then a long wait for an opportunity to go on the hunt.
Found with DebsNZ and Aoraki sheep on a road trip.
