Stopped of here on my Gizzy Grand Tour to snag and tag this one. Cheers.
New milestone with my 9000th find today
Day 14, Wednesday 2 February - Gisborne - Tolaga Bay - Anaura Bay - Omanuka Bay - then the back road from Togaga Bay to Gisborne on a TMGT hunt for the day. Stopping off at Grays Bush on our way back to Zara. Come on Lenny and Toby lets get moving!
Zara, Toby, Lenny and I are on our North Island expidition for a couple of weeks. Got The Seagnoid along for the first 4 days, heading to the Auckland Mega. PWGTs and TMGTs are on the radar for this trip. Lots of driving on gravel roads and visited lots of amazing places on our 6000km road trip snagging 200+ caches along the way. Visiting Cape Reinga, Bay of Islands, Gisborne and White Rock along our journey. The highlight cache for the trip was GC815zh Journey to Pandora (night cache in Ack) Another awesome trip. Thanks to all CO's.

I decided to go on the Gisborne Grand Tour today and being Sunday I was hoping that there would be no logging operations. I was right and very thankful. About 33km of these roads are one lane gravel with big potholes and sometimes with a ridge down the middle. Definitely don't want to do this in your 2WD vehicle. I also recommend taking a radio that has channels 84 and 86 on it. My handheld only went to 80. Luckily I only met two other vehicles and that was when I was climbing the hills up from Tolaga Bay, one was going my way and warned me that a stock truck was coming down one of the single lane parts of the road. PHEW!
There was the remains of another old suspension bridge. This one was probably had flood waters over it occassionally.
Cheers for the cache.

The journey is getting more interesting now and the road has deteriorated somewhat.

#8040. Prior to driving north to locate the TMGT caches in Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, I contacted the CO (who lives nearby) to see whether they wanted me to replace any caches in the series that had gone missing after the big flood a few years ago and some additional major flooding since 2018. They gave me the green light to put in new containers and shift the caches to nearby more secure locations. The previous people who looked here could not locate it. We had another look today. It seems certain now the flood has stripped this one away. Lots of storm damage around parts of the bridge. Have put in replacement in a secure spot close to the bridge near RP 17.7. The CO has the new coordinates and hints and will hopefully update the web page soon. Thanks taybee nz for showing us this hidden valley behind Tolaga Bay.

Too much erosion around site from storms. Lots of debris. Didn't even try for this one.
DNF. Couldnt find a string to pull anywhere on or near the bridge where the coords led to. Will head back sometime to have another shot
Cache is back up and running thanks to a local cacher who is doing a maintenance run for me
thanks W.E.K.A for the head up on the Cache
thanks W.E.K.A for the head up on the Cache
This must surely be the worst geocache series we have ever attempted. We found only 3 of the 10 caches and this was another of the 7 DNFs. We suggest other cachers don't bother with the long drive required until the cache owner has checked the series.
Found with snapacache, missed the FTF but still 2TF
Nice to have a series along this road.
