The area has been too disturbed a replacement cache cannot work at the location to match DT rating etc. So going to put this one to bed.
No luck for us either.
Looked and felt all up and down both sides of ladder/steps, but nothing.

No luck for us today! Found location and good descriptions but no smiliee today.
Having a wee road trip south today. Breaking the journey with a treasure hunt. Thanks for the caches
We are on our summer holiday driving around the South Island with no real idea of where we will end up each day. We are often drawn to an area that has the potential to give us a few geocaching smilies and somewhere we have not spent time exploring before. In some cases we are revisiting placed that we have been before but liked so much we are going there again.
Here we are back in Mataura, we were only here a few days ago, but travelling different roads this time.
GK found this one it was not quite as per the hint but close, once we signed the log he returned it as per the hint.
Thank you for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

After working out right from wrong, had cache quickly in hand. Tftc MattyH from Tassie
Now I have seen the underside of the Mataura bridge! We were about to give up and then we read the hint and searched a bit harder and success! TFTC
A quick find on a chilly Autumn day A road trip to Gore required a bit of caching!

Down from Northland for a few days for a short visit and just had to make sure of a cache or three each day. Today the weather was a bit better, but still much more like early winter than summer.
On our way back now towards Dunedin. Parked up near GZ and looked around for a possible hide location. With the good hint, the cache was soon found where described. Signed the log and replaced safe and secure as found. TFTC

My number of Southland geocache finds is woefully under represented so I was hoping to get a few today on a short excursion over the border, even though the weather was not cacher-friendly. I had passed a "farewell from Southland" sign a little earlier but I thought that can't be right (although maybe the border meanders a bit). I stopped in Mataura to see if there was a cache nearby and headed here. I was a little unsure about what was in store and wondered if access could be tricky in wet conditions. However, that wasn't an issue and I soon found the thoughtfully placed treasure, TFTC, Natalie247.
Finally got round to finding it. Nice hide and got in quick just on dark for a fast find. TFTC
Really enjoyed this cache and unique view of bridge Day three of my long, long weekend in Otago and Southland and I’m loving every moment of it. Woke this morning in my Airbnb in Winton to the sound of rain so I was a little downcast thinking I was back to wet shoes and socks for the day. However, my fears were misjudged as the day was crisp and clear. Left Winton with a good impression and more than I arrived (pre-arrival all I knew that the only woman hanged in New Zealand, Minnie Dean, came from here).
Heading out of Invercargill now after a short trip to Bluff. I really enjoyed this cache and the unique view of the bridge. A quick find here so I could get on my way towards Dunedin. TFTC

Quick stop along the way as we begin the journey up to Oamaru for the Mega. Nice little hide. TFTC
Had driven over this bridge many times before. Searchwisely, the navigator... decided we needed to stop today to get this one tonight... the 1st one of many for Oamaru Mega weekend. Let's do this!!!
An easy find while the kids you guessed it threw stones in the river. It was a quick stop and then on the road to get home. TFTC
I found this while travelling back to Dunedin after heading south for the day to find the Southland CANZ cache. Thanks
I believe this cache is ok following heavy rainfall over last 48 hrs, however roads in the area have been affected. A state of Emergency is still in place - for upto date info on roads go to www.dunedin.govt.nz/road-conditions
A large portion of my caches have been in affected area and I am currently through work/voluenteering have to focus on post flooding.
As I expect it will be at least 1 week until I can do effective maintenance runs to check and replace caches I apologise now if you were hoping to claim this for a dot day/Mary Hyde gold and it is not in its expected state.

I added a bit of geocaching to make my trip from Dunedin to Bluff a bit more interesting. Thanks.
#4087. I have a conference down in the lower South Island over Queens Birthday weekend. So decided to add several extra days of leave to do some geocaching in the deep south. Flew into Dunedin airport this morning and was lucky to land with all the fog and drizzle about. After a visit to the Sutton Salt Lake caches we are on the way south to Invercargill. Well it was right on dusk when we arrived here and getting hard to see without a torch. The hint seemed clear enough. Nevertheless still took a good 5-10 minutes to lay our hands on the cache as I missed it several times on the sweep. Eventually dug in deeper and there it was. Signed the log and replaced the cache where found. Thanks for the cache Natalie247.
Quick park and grab on our way out to the Balclutha end of the Catlins while on holiday from Auckland to complete the Hump Ridge track. Nice spot so left a TB.
Driven over the bridge a few times. First time I've actually stopped. A quick find today, now off to find a Jimmys pie for second breakfast. Cheers
Last day our Easter holiday to Invercargill. Time for the trek home...
Thanks to all of the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

I'm on a south island tour on my recumbent bike and stayed at the top10 park in Invercargill. Going to Gore today. TFTC.
I stopped here while passing through on my way to Invercargill. Quick park and grab. Never knew those steps where here... TFTC!
We arrived in Mataura this afternoon and decided to check out its Troll Access. Got to the Hint level and found the cache after inspecting a couple of spots. Great view of the river from here. Thanks.
Counted the steps and found the tin easily. SL and returned to hide. The river looked low, not much action at the falls - we need rain. TFTC
I had a free transfer-a-car booked from Queenstown to Christchurch, so obviously I decided to head back to Christchurch via Invercargil to get a few "must have" caches. Teamed up with mrdan01 for this trip.
Didn't take long to locate the cache today. Nice wee area. Thanks for the cache.

Day one of a weekend road trip with 2wombles. He had booked a free rental car between Queenstown and Christchurch, and was nice enough to invite me along for the ride! Naturally we decided to take the scenic route - via Invercargill and Dunedin, but unfortunately, we had to cut out the Catlins due to a flight delay at the start of the trip. I really enjoyed getting out to this part of our country that I don’t get to see very often, and there were plenty of laughs along the way too! The rock cliffs into the river around here are just awesome. TFTC (3508)
Day # 2 in New Zealand on a geocaching holiday-trip covering Thailand, Australia and finally my beloved NZ .
I had so much looked forward to return to this beautiful country, and now I'm here again - awesome!
Today the journey took me southward from Dunedin to Invercargill and Bluff . Took a detour to cover more caches on the route
Mission accomplished!
At the end of the busy day I arrived in Bluff after driving approximately 300 km with my cute little green car and had happily collected 28 caches on the route and in Buff [^].
Another cute little Takeaway at the side of the road.
Although the hint contained words Google was not able to translate into German, I finally made the find by using common sense. [^] .
Hey - New Zealand, you have awesome caches [^] [:X]! Almost all in great shape. [^]
So thanks to all the Owners involved [:X] [:X] for hiding and maintaining. [^]
Cheers from Germany

Down from Wellington for a few days, then home via the West Coast with maybe a cache or two to break the journey.
Quick find, the river was brown and up.

Find #40 on Team Walker's epic adventure from Blenheim to Bluff and back. Mr W made the find here. Cool waterfall. TFTC
The hint was very useful otherwise it might have taken a while to find with all the available metal around.
After a fun southern family holiday in the Catlins and Invercargill it's time to start heading for home (CHCH).....staying the night in the Waitaki just to break the drive...allowed one or two caches along the way (so it doesn't take toooooo long getting there! Wicked spot...no one else about in the drizzle. Cheers.
We started geocaching on 01 January 2016 and we are on a trip, going back where it all started, planning on 500 caches for the year.
Interesting and different view of the bridge. No trolls around today.

Had to be a bit careful retrieving this one, successfully followed instructions, and scored our final cache for the day. Loved the waterfall! TFTC
The troll was the last of the day before cruising into Invercargill this was fab and took the time to spot the falls TFTC
Found on our way down South to Bluff for the weekend. A lovely spot to stop and an easy find. TFTC
Taking a road trip to Gore today and stopped at a couple of caches where there were some questions raised about them. Wanted to check on this one in person to make sure I had correct new hint. All good.
We'd been here before when the cache was missing, back in the area and I see it's recently been replaced. Found exactly as hint suggests. Found with Aoraki Sheep.
Had a hand on this almost immediately but then we did follow instructions and went down backwards Found with debsnz
LionsvsLambs who previously found this did a check and couldn't find the cache so put out a new container Have updated hint to match the new container as we think the old one has been muggled.
Will be in the area May to have a check o the cache and area.

We checked everywhere down the railing about 4 times over and over again we even used a torch we did not find it from the McGarry rangers.Maybe next time.
