Found this after a nice lunch stop. A nice quick find. Had to wait for the muggles to pass. Tftc
Visiting from Ohio, USA with BKD1389. TFTC!!! (lost our pen along the way, but went photo to owner)
( ) Righto... we 3, rusty and Rebel and myself are at the end of the dam, but not the end of our adventure, we have chained the bikes to the big sign and we're off up the hill. In the past I seemed to remember this hill not being too bad to climb, how wrong was my memory from 2010! Lol... it's very steep in places, and I was resting quite often, never mind, we carry on, the cache all good here today.
With rebel98 (who found this cache in February 2018) and gorby. Bikes are now chained to the sign, it's walking time Thanks for the hide
In the area today for maintenance, as some cachers have reported DNF's on few of ours out here.....This one was as when we took ownership, all good to be found....Happy caching all.
Another walk while Geo-daughter has a horse riding lesson. Unfortunately I forgot my pen. School boy error!! TFTC.
This was a nice location , nice talking to Di , who is a pretty keen geocacher it seems . I like caching for the fun of it these days Tftc
Our first full day in NZ. We for a little walk. Late I realised that there might be caches on the way and so I had to wait for cellar signal before I could check. Sadly I realised that I walked past quite a few of them. This one showed up on the map. Many thanks and best regards from Germany,CrankyGerman
Out for a walk in the Hunua's on a wonderfully fine Saturday morning. There were quite a few people around we we made it to the dam, we didn't see anyone else as we walked up the road so they all must have walked the track to get here instead? We managed to get a few minutes to search for the cache between others walking by and made the find, signed the log and was just placing the cache back when the next one walked by. All good here, TFTC.
Was up this way doing the Beconaze Power trail.....realised I didn't have this one so we wandered across ...
It wasn't where the hint says....but Mrs Jag found the lovely fresh log inside two containers....now behind a small rock next to a big rock.
Still near sign...but NOT base of tree.
Thanks for replacing.
All good.....and all downhill now hopefully .

Stopped in on this one as we had just recently adopted this one and decided to check in it.....the cache had definitely seen better days with water inside the cache and a nice aroma to boot..... swapped this out with a new one and also spotted a hopefully dryer spot to live.....Hint updated, co-ordinates not needing to be changed as it's only 30cm away from the original set.....
Happy caching....

Last cache on a circuit with some friends from the Auckland Uni tramping club today. I haven't been caching much so far this year so it was nice to get three today, especially on a walking track I hadn't done before! We had a longer rest stop here and while the others were eating watermelon by the dam I went over to find the cache. I saw the previous log saying it was waterlogged, and yes there was a LOT of water inside, but the log is waterproof paper so it was okay. I took a photo just in case since my green pen didn't show up so well. Otherwise all good... just wet!
Thanks for placing it here

Apologies folks, this part of the walk is closed at the moment so you can't get the cache.
Happy caching,
TeamCV.

After poking around a lot of wrong spots I followed my gps to the correct one. It’s a bit damp and someone else had come pre-armed with toy soldiers so mine stayed warm and dry in my pack. Tftc
By the time i got here, the sun was shining, the dam was full & other walkers were about. Nice quick find here. TFTC

Managed to get the wife and a friend to head out to Hunua to grab some caches! I must have done this loop trail a dozen times and always thought I had them all. Guess not!
I had to speed run this one. My crew decided to move on without me as day was getting dark. After a few attempts, eventually found it. Container had a lot of water in it. TFTC

Up to do the circuit around the falls. My first time in the area. Enjoyed my day and found some caches along the way. Very wary of Kauri Dieback when completing my searches. Busy day with many muggles passing as I contemplated the hides.
This was my lunch stop. In between muggles I grabbed the log and signed it as I enjoyed the break. Placed back in cache a I headed off. Thank you for the placement.

Family walk scoping out tracks for a group walk for 30 kids. Cossey track from Hunua Falls. Stunning day. Thanks for the easy find for our geokids!
I was supposed to do the Cossey Loop Walk the day before with Team SEAC but completely messed up my days so I went on the Sunday instead. It would've been easier the day before with everyone there looking for the cache with lots of eyes.
Finally, an easy cache to find on the trail of a good size. Unfortunately it's not very well hidden so not sure how long it will remain plus it's not at all water tight, TFTC!

We are planning a trip to complete the Tongariro Crossing maybe in Feb so are doing regular walking trips to prepare ourselves - this is one of those days.
Nice walk with a great group of friends, weather was perfect, track all good.
Woohoo we made it! Cache was very wet but being triple covered the log was still ok for signing.
Thanks for the fun.
Signed log as SEAC to save space on the log.

Early morning walk around the loop hitting the trail by 8am. Quickly found this one as we dropped down onto the dam. Signed and returned to carry on on our way
Had a small picnic at the dam before heading on our way. Really hot day. Best part of this walk was the stream crossing at the end - great way to cool your feet off. TFTC.
A nice quick find after a not so quick walk. We though we would drive to the dam up the Cossey Access Road but found it is now closed to cars so we had to walk the last 1.5km.
It was a nice walk though and very peaceful along the deserted winding road.
We took the trackable to continue its journey.
Thanks KiwiLeon.

Had planned to do the whole Cossey - Massey Loop but Massey Track is closed until Christmas for an upgrade. A nice walk up Cossey Gorge Track to the cache and then return. TFTC
Pretty exhausted we reached the dam. I cannot believe people jog this circuit twice...
Easy find, which was good because we wanted to get out of the ranges before it got dark! Tftc

Out and about to find some caches for the Mystery in the Museum challenge. We did a nice hike to the dam and this was a nice and easy one. Well done. Found together with Piratenschatzsucher and Greenkiwikids and signed as team Piraten. Tftc
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
Tyfc. Beautiful dam. Left a couple of trackables, will add those later, zero phone coverage at cache.
A straight forward find here. The dam level is looking lower after all the fine days we've been having
Against all rules I would have loved a swim here. Just seeing the water and resting here helped cool me down though. Tftc
Nice easy find after the decent slog to get here. Great views of the dam! On we go to the next one. TFTC
It helps if you put the right co-ords into the GPS
After sorting that out, luckily it was only an extra 60m and I was at GZ, now the cache was quickly located. The cache was filled with water, and the log mush. Luckily I had come prepared after reading the logs before I left home. So the cache has been dried, and a waterproof log left for the next finder.
So thanks for the hide KiwiLeon, all quiet here. Just after I had returned the cache to its hiding place, the rain arrived. A heavy downpour, luckily nearby are covered picnic tables, so we sheltered until it stopped, watching the rain bounce off the water in the dam!

Great walk, lovely location. Easy find but log not able to be signed. See image for evidence.
Great walk, but, despite being in a bag in a container in a container in a container the log was paper mache...

Out walking along the trail earlier today and collecting a few caches along the way.managed to find this one quickly but unable to sign the log as it was mushy.drained out the water that was in the container.
Been a great walk up to here. Made a great choice to come over and see the falls. Bonus a good walk and a good trail of cache. No problems locating cache. But unfortunately cache was full of water. Log just fell apart. So have to do a photo log. Thanks to everyone for their placements. Tftc.
Decided to do the hike clockwise - wow that was a long uphill walk! Still, was fun walking across the river and up here. It's a bit colder up here. Cache in good condition.
A couple of vehicles drove past but didn't spot me hiding in the bushes while signing the log. They were the first people I saw on my entire walk so far. Great spot!! Tftc
After an epic but very long penalty shootout between Germany and Italy in the Euro 2016 a decision was taken to use the rest of the sunny day for a quick hike. The Hunua walk was just perfect, taking us ~2-3h. Another nice stop on our little hike. TFTC
2 members of team GreenBlAt out today to pick up some new caches, blow out some cobwebs and continue to strengthen up a recently sprained ankle.
Three quarters of the way round the loop. Dunno why but I was expecting something a little larger. Or with wheels maybe
Dam good spot.

I was out today with a muggle friend doing a series of hikes around the Hunuas, starting with the Massey Loop Track, then moving on to the Wairoa Loop Track and finishing with the Suspension Bridge Loop Track. It was a great series of hikes and my friend was patient enough to let me find a few geocaches along the way! This was quickly found as we approached the dam. TFTC!

A group of us decided to attempt some caches further into the ranges. Unfortunately the walk in was taking longer than estimated. We needed to be back at the cars by a set time so a change of plan was required. An alternative route was chosen allowing us to get this cache. A short search by everyone resulted in the find. We were reading the info boards at the other end of the dam when we had an added bonus. A flyby from a Strikemaster based at nearby Ardmore airfield and maintained by one of the group. Signed as Team SEAC to save space on the log. Updating my new geo account with unlogged finds and finally logging 01 07 2024 as NurseDr.TFTC

We had planned to find a large cache in the midst of the ranges but having underestimated the time needed to accomplish the mission we changed tact and headed this way for this find... Great weather and company making this trip another success caching.
With a group searching the find was swift.
The cache is in good shape, dry and well hidden.
Signed as SEAC to save logbook space.

There are some wicked vantage points of the Hunua Ranges and wider Auckland on this walk and what a spectacular day for it! Was well worth doing the full loop on foot! Stellaalouise & I will upload a great shot from our travels a little later, but thanks for an awesome excuse to visit this area and TFTC!

Went exploring with fwankiebutwhy? and some overseas family on Waitangi Day. Great walk made even greater by adding a cheeky cache to the adventure. Hadn't checked online before the walk which was silly as now we see there were tonnes we missed! Also had very little reception but success was had nonetheless! TFTC.
Found while working on the dam. Didn't even have to wait for lunch to look for it because we actually stumbled upon it during the mornings work! TFTC
Easy find - there was a bit of water in the systema container and the two pens that were in there were corroded so bring your own. The lod was dry though
On our first full day in NZL we visited Hunua Falls and hiked the Cossey Trail loop through a wonderful wood with ferns and kauri trees. Together with Sporty-Ron and Knobelboy we searched for all caches on the loop and found all but 2 of them.
Nice lake and and an impressive dam here. Foolish Mr. Cache-Knobi left his hiking stick here and had to visit the place a second time half an hour later [B)].
The Cache-Knobis from Muenster in Germany say TFTC (#3141 @ 14:45).

Loving this awesome track in the hunuas with 4 muggle friends. They had been a little challenged by some of the stairs..but a good workout I say! The dam was really interesting..such a big area. We really valued the availability of a loo too found the cache ok..outer was wet but inner ok..a little damp but writable..thanks! Great spot
An later than usual start for today's caching mission, but as the wife was coming along and not the usual crew a pre-dawn start was never going to be on the cards. The days plan was a hike in the Hunua Ranges plus a few other finds in the area which suit a challenge I'm working on. We managed to located everything we hunted for, and got some stunning weather to boot, so a great day all round.
Really enjoyed the view down into the gorge as we wandered along the track. Not to much uphill so the legs aren't yelling at me yet. Had a brief encounter with a kereru when it decided to poop on me as I was walking beneath it. Had a quick bite to eat before heading across the dam and to GZ. Had to wait for some muggles to pass before I was able to hunt for the cache. Glad it didn't take long to find as there were a few people about today. Thanks for the hide.

Great walk to this cache - quite tiring but pleased to make it ok.
