Took ages to get down, the cache was pretty simple to find, we also found a brown snake, not sure if it was part of the cache.
Nestled away nicely with the coordinates almost bang on. Picked up TB bushwhack to continue its travels. Came in the early hours of the morning to avoid snakes but didn't get away from the March flies! Cache was in good nick too. TFTC bingley3683 +1FP#107
Damn roadworks,I was keen to check this out but couldn't stop due to road being resurfaced
Better luck next time

we wonder how you found this hut
it is quite a little marvel
and as an added bonus: it was definitely once a hut
as for the treasure:
it took quite some finding
we were looking everyone
over, under, in, up, down, sideways
unearthing everything but treasure
the nerves sharpened by the ever-present fear that beneath the next rusted sheet would be a snake ready to strike
thankfully, the storm must have scared them off
that or the creaking tin
but
we persevered and got the paperwork done
we are glad we got there in the end
thanks for another treasure at another lost hut

Took a good 20min searching and was heading back up when a final look around resulted in finding the cache. Hard to avoid walking around on the corrugated iron and my biggest fear was waking up a snake from underneath! Yep, hard to grasp why this seemed like a good location for a hut. TFTC.

The heights of Hotham, to the depths of the Ovens at Bright - it was all downhill for us today!!
After making our way down to the hut site and just starting to look, we spied a yellow bellied black making the most of the warmth on the tin, only a couple of meters from our GZ, so we decided to leave the space for the local.

Slowly making our way back down the mountain to our camp at Harrietville after an enjoyable day of mountain bike riding (some of us BMX riding #DadDrewTheShortStraw) along the Machinery Spur. We were also going to try a bit of hiking on the Razorback Track today where this CO has at least two caches that were in our sights ...but it turns out I packed a little too much in our day ...so we will just have to come back!
A "quick" dash down the bank to checkout the hut ruins ended up being a 15 minute search in the wrong places before a slight change of orientation finally gave up this well hidden cache. Coords were tricky in here and once found, I suppose they were about right! Our name is now in the log. Shame about this hut! TFTC, Bingley3683.

Found at 10.30am, A short wander down to this forgotten hut, mostly clear going. We tried to imagine how it would have looked before the fires with a stunning view of Feathertop. We even found a portion of the bridle trail. A short search ensued, and we sat in the sun soaking up the history and views. TNLN Thanks

After smearing myself in kangaroo poo (friend told me it was good for protection?) and arming myself with a snake thwarting stick, I set off for this cache chanting the mantra, "they're more afraid of you than you are of them." I'm not sure if the brown or red bellied black are aware of this so kept my searching to a minimum. Lots of area to search with my GPS flailing wildly. I know why this is referred to as the Damm Hut but enjoyable nevertheless although I have to register a DNF.
Damn! A drive by but not really a drive by. Well kinda. Its close but not that close.
A bit of a meander down the hill then hang on...this is the hut! So be it!
The hint didn't make too much sense however it was found without lifting up any tin. Quiet the cool spot given I love the history of this place!
Thanks for placing Bingley!

Day 4 of an epic 5-day roadtrip hiking and 4WDing between the Alpine and Kosciuszko National Parks with Jacko had us travelling from Omeo to Bright via Mt Hotham.
Damm, that was short but steep.
It would be difficult to imagine when a hut in this steep slope made sense, even many years ago. At least even in 2018 it still has some value in providing some sort of entertainment for us geocachers. Took a few minutes and then we found the cache once we read the cache notes and ignored all the tin.
Thanks for highlighting this otherwise unseen place, Bingley3683.

Found it! Today was lay day for the Walkabouters at the end of the annual sojourn to the High Country. Muggle Heather and Elaine were keeping me company as I found few caches. I headed down the hill as they waited in the car. I did not expect to be too long so didn't take any water with me. Mmm, bad move! It didn't take too long to arrive at GZ but I nearly gave up looking for the cache. The GPSr kept moving between 2 spots and after what felt like an age I nearly gave up. I looked in one more spot before heading back up the hill to the airconditioned car and found it! Not sure the description of NOT under the corrugated iron is all that helpful. Very pleased there were no snakes at GZ today and I don't like having to put my hand into a dark hole that a snake might be happy to live in. Anyway TFTC SL Great to visit this piece of history.
Today was a great day to go caching - blue skies, no clouds, not too hot, and a nice cool breeze. All today's caches were up around Mt Hotham and apart from 2, all terrains were between 3 and 4 inclusive. Even though I've completed the "Spread the Love Challenge", today's haul would have gained 113 months of unloved caches.
This is certainly a strange place for a hut. I made my way down to GZ with relative ease and made the find after a minute or two. Thanks to Bingley3683 for the cache.

On trip over the mountain to Bairnsdale took the opportunity to grab some caches and what a great Vista it is from the Damm hut .the cache was in good condition cheers Bingley. Tftc
Makes you wonder how on earth a hut could be built in this location. Sturdy footwear required. A beautiful Autumn day and very nice cache to find. Tftc
Wow, this was a steep down hill start, after dodging the two tractors with mowers on the roadside. Fought our way through the grass and regenerating hakeas to GZ. Once found we thought we would have to log a DNF, because the last person here had screwed the lid back on so tightly! Had to use a handy tool left behind by a 4 legged muggle to help us uncover the contents. SL at 1.15pm TN Left a few swaps #2707 TFTC Bingley - not much left of the hut now!

Do you know the feeling when you made the wrong choice ordering your meal? Like you ordered the lamb-ribs but you should have gone for fish'n chips? That's what I felt like when going after this cache. So slightly disappointed, I trotted down the hill and hoped to find an interesting location to lighten my mood. Tada! It worked >> some ruins and a smiley later Adriaan and I were on our way back to the car to grab some more caches.
Thanks and cheers

Find #4248
After a massive 30km of high country hiking yesterday, today was a day for some easier caches around Hotham and surroundings with much shorter walks to get to the caches. I joined up with Day1976 and º for a great day of caching.
All I can say is how the heck did you find this location? Day had already found this so º and I headed down the hill to GZ. Interesting little spot, its a pity it is not still standing. Nice quick find of the cache.
A favourite point for the high country location.
Thanks to Bingley3683 for placing this cache. TNLN

Found at 1:09 PM GAFF1 in the company of The Farmers 5 (but there were only 4 of 'em ). There is a misspelling there - it should be "Damn" hut [xx(]
Just amazed that there would be a hut on such a steep slope - didn't see the cleared grazing area - was concentrating on getting down and then the slog to get up again! Greg ended up getting back to the road way before me and had recovered by the time I got there [xx(].
Thanks Bingley3683.

We parked nearby with Pprass on the Hotham event weekend trek.
We soon arrived down the steep slope to the former hut and located the nice sized container.
Great historical cache never likely to get mugged.
Many thanks to Bingley for the steep slope challenge.

Find #1335 logged at GZ at 16:46, will update shortly.... T4TC Bingley3683!
Stopped in on the way to hosting The Hotham Gamble. Found without difficulty although trecked further off the road than my street shoes were prepared for. The accommodation here has seen better days! On the way back up the hill got skewered in the neck by a dagger of a blackened dead branch which luckily didn't draw blood. Be careful out there!

The GeoPrincess opted to remain in the car for this cache so it was up to Mum & Dad to make the attempt. We found what we thought to be the most suitable place to park and access to the cache. It was a bit of a slip and slide down the hill which was quite "the pull" on the way back up. We were about 50m from the site and having not read the cache page in its entirety at the time, we wondered how there could be a hut site so close yet we could not see any evidence of it. It all became apparent once we had arrived, it was still there......just laying down . It was quite interesting to read how this hut came by its name and also the fact that it had a ride in stable - quite state of the art addition for the time no doubt. The cache was found well hidden and in very good condition on our visit. Our thanks to Bingley3683 for highlighting another historic site and providing some of its history on the cache page. Cheers [^]
Once again work took me up the hill, and thankfully another (sort of) roadside cache was there to make the most of the drive
After completing my duties on the hill, I pulled over and scrambled down the slope to GZ, where it took be a few minutes to locate the cache as my GPS didn't like where it was. Eventually all was well.
I liked the old Horseshoe that is now embedded in the tree near GZ

In the area with muggle-wife, Geocaching was to be far from my mind. We had enjoyed a walk to Rippa Dippa, but turned around and headed back to base camp in Harrietville. My concession was to grab the few remaining caches I haven't found along this road.
This was the first one. An enjoyable moderate bush-bash down to a nice easy find with good co-ords. Fascinating sight and a blood pumping jog back up the hill to work up a sweat where muggle-wife was enjoying a book in the car. Thanks Bingley, cache is in excellent condition!

Well my First to find
And I didn't even realise it until we stopped and I read the description and thought I'd check out the logs to see if there were any Did not find's.
But to my surprise, no logs!!
This is what I like about Geocaching, taking you to spots that you would never had known.
Wasn't that bad of a climb down and the exact thoughts ran through my mind like why would they build here etc!
Tried looking for the sump, but I did have a rough idea where it might have been. Saw the path the would have bought the horses and themselves down from the ridge.
Picked up the TB and will log it.
