The magnets i had weren't strong enough to retrieve it so i had to resort to some other means, good ole sprat rod in the van soon hooked him up.
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)…
Auckland Anniversary: We needed fair weather to smash out our big caching plans. We were hopeful that Taranaki would turn on some sunshine today and it did. In spite of one heavy downpour in the afternoon and the threat of thunder, we managed to stay dry and in the game.
We enjoyed working our way through the Smile GeoArt. Each of the puzzles was a test of logic and reasoning. We were able to solve many with surprising rapidity, while a handful needed some heavy duty problem solving. In the end, we had the trail sorted for this weekend's visit... A big break from Smiling - We momentarily came to a halt here. We needed a tool and fortunately, Gap had this one in hand. Thanks 2 Bulbars. TFTC

Needed to improvise to retrieve this container, used to have a long extendable tool in the van, but as usual when you need it, it has disappeared – the MacGyvoring worked so all good and we were on our way again. TFTC

Luckily had the right tool for a quick find. Thanks for the cool caches 2 bulbars, gets another fave
After swiping away all the spider webs I thought I'd be able to grab it with my grabber tool but it doesn't have a magnet on it. So although it would've touched it, I couldn't actually grab it. I'll have to return on another trip to the Naki!
This one took almost all of my wile to extract. The fishing line is too short so I tried a couple of other things before resorting to my attractive stringy combo! A nice hide here and the host is good and sturdy.
With a preferable weather forecast for the Saturday this weekend, and a little time available for a roadie out Taranaki way I was off out the house at 0600 and back home 12 hours later. My initial (misguided) plan to cache up to Stratford, then back again was adjusted just after lunch and Normanby was the turn-around spot. A good day out and improved my Taranaki stats somewhat with 30-odd real finds and 17 Ad Lab stages (3 completed). Put my big-boy pants on to climb the Hawera water tower (a DNF for the cache though) and a great Earthcache out at Ancient Beaches. Many, many 2 Bulbars caches, thanks Lester, and appreciate the efforts of all COs.

I had to use my magnetic car phone holder and shoe lace tey!
I've found this cache during my fourth day of the Queen memorial weekend in Taranaki. Slowly going back home.

Tftc my magnetic thing not long enough, what next, found something to fix problem
Came on our roadtrip prepared for such a cache. Had the right tool and soon had the cache in hand.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, 2 Bulbars

Great little cache. Brought our tott but it wasn't long enough! Luckily my hand fit so in I went through all the spiderwebs (shivers, I hate those) and then almost at the end off my reach I heard the clank! Carefully retrieved the cache. Only after signing it did Wilbywarrior remember that his tott is telescopic... Coincidence? I don't think so...

Tftc, found but in a bit of a sorry state, log too wet to write on but a clever idea
In hindsight, I probably should have spent a bit more time here to check things out properly. I discovered something that I thought would have something else attached to it. I decided there and then that things were not in order but I may have been too hasty in reaching that conclusion.
Stopped here on our way past for a quick snag and tag. Cheers
Day 4- Tuesday 17 December. Hawera district today.
Running around the Hawera district today in Toby, while Zara rests up. Checked Manawapou viaduct and Nowells Lakes.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

I have found this previously, just stopped here for the dragon.
Day four of Taybeedragon's and my big 3 week circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki, starting from Palmerston North. Today is Hawera - it's going to be a slow trip!!
Highlights:
* 3 weeks, 536 caches
* Mt Taranaki had been removed for washing, which was a bit of a shame. Even after it had been returned we were only allowed to see it for it was less than half an hour a day.
* High percentage of caches with crappy coordinates
* Amazing Pukekura Park
* AMAZING Pukekura Park light show!
* Pukeiti Gardens
* Lots of cache maintenance!

Planning for the [NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:
* 20 years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20 years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* And it's 2020 - all the 20s!
Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](https://coord.info/GC87777) - you won't want to miss it!

A very quick and easy find of the cache and the tool! Very clever and loved getting this one, TFTC
Interesting cache, the boys were scratching their head until I read the description and noted the important line - doh, lookie at that and there we go, log signed. Have a FP
Up here for an awesome weekend jaunt with Team Gators, TheWanglers and Karma Reprint to do a loop of the mountain in 48 hours grabbing as many caches as we could while having a good laugh. Logs signed as some derivative of (KT)^2
Cheers 2 Bulbars for the cache

A quick and easy find. However the tool took a little longer to find. VEry useful though. Cheers
Day one, New Plymouth airport to Hawera.
A long weekend cache raid to Taranaki. The weather didn't stop us doing anything, and we had fun times. Logs were signed with a combination of KT and 2 depending one which of did the signing. Thanks Kiwi Moose, Team Gaters and TheWanglers for a choice time.
Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

A plan was hatched for a few of us to head to America for a Mad Mission. With life getting a bit crazy a downsized trip was organised as I had sorted childcare for the cachelets. The big America trip is now set for next year. We asked a member of our crew if we could go to Nelson, Dunedin, Auckland, Wellington, Hastings the answer all came back "I don't have many to find there". We left it to that member to suggest an area. He came up with New Plymouth and a loop around the mountain. That's a go from the rest of us. We sorted puzzles, gpxs, motels and a car and hit the ground running. The forecast was doom, gloom, rain, hail and lightning. Oh well, sounds exciting. We had very little of any of the weather that affected our caching and found we had all overpacked (thank God!).
Day 1: We grabbed the car and started caching at 2pm and made it to Hawera after 8pm settled into our accommodation and had a bit to eat and hit the town before calling it quits for the day.
Another brilliant cache. Took a bit to locate the tool.
Thanks for the cache 2 Bulbars.

A planned geocaching trip to the USA was shelved (but is all go for this time next year!) so we came up with a weekends Plan B. Taranaki with TheWanglers, KarmaReprint and KiwiMoose - logs signed (TK)^2 or a variation of. A really fun trip with the forecast rain and thunder seemingly always in the distance but never hindering us. A really fun weekend.
Arrived in New Plymouth; grabbed the rental and hit the road running - aiming for Hawera....
Hawera finally arrived at...accommodation checked into & tea finally eaten. A bit of light drizzle - but keen bean use figure there is still a bit of time for a few more find and signs.
Hah - GZ quick to find but numbnuts me hadn't read the cache description and got a bit fazzled not being able to retrieve the cache...but then TW and KR came to my rescue pointing out a tool was nearby. Dur. Nice one - and I like and appreciate the fact that the tool was nearby. Cheers!

Attempted this one a couple of years ago but didn’t know there was a tool to retrieve it...had no problems today though, found the carefully hidden tool and soon we were signing the log. Container is quite rusty and the lid is knackered so put this on your to do maintenance list after you get back from your intrepid journey please TFTC
This weekend adventure had been 2 months in the making. An off the cuff comment made at a geocahing event late last year led to the planning and execution of a weekend in the Taranaki including summiting Mount Taranaki. I had a great time roadtripping and climbing with Gr33nslime and TwigNZ. We only collected 50 caches in total but had an amazing experience and saw some very unique hides. We logged our finds as team GST.
50 of 50
And we are done.
We failed to get to sign the logsheet for this one on our first pass. Fortunately we bumped in to the CO later in our trip and were able to return to this site with further information that allowed us to complete the required tasks. Should have read the description properly and we might have got it the first time.

This was the weekend I was finally going to get to climb Mt Egmont, something I have wanted to do for a while now, even before I discovered Geocaching!
I was part of a great team of 3, the others being Stardust718 and Gr33nslime, so for most of our logging this weekend we simply signed ourselves as either "G.S.T" or "Team G.S.T" depending on size of log sheet.
We had had an elated day yesterday, getting to the summit and back again safely, albeit with muscles that now complained heartily. But now it was time for the long drive home again, and a chance to pick up a few more caches on the way. We decided to only concentrate on caches that either were directly on our route, or maybe had an high amount of FP's, or else an 'other' sized container.
This cache was one of those we had initially taken a look at on our trip up, and completely failing to properly read the cache page meant that we didn't get it that day in spite of one of our party almost having arms thin and long enough to be able to reach it the hard way!
But a chance encounter with the CO gave us that "DOH!" moment we needed which meant that our visit today yielded the right result. The log was swiftly signed and then we jumped back into the car for the long unbroken drive back to Palmy.
Thanks for another cache for our weekend trip.

# 1335 Yay, this weekend it was time for a roadie from the Hutt Valley up to Taranaki, with the prime mission being a summit of Mt Taranaki, and the secondary mission being 2bullbars smiley trail. There were a few other caches added for good measure too. Team GST as we named ourselves consisted of Gr33nslime, stardust718 and twigNZ. All up we found 51 caches and only two DNF so that is a pretty good hit rate. Sorry for the bulk log here. Thank you very much to all of the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches that we had the pleasure of finding on this trip.
We almost DNF (fill in log sheet) on this one, and it wasnt until a chance encounter with the CO outside Posted that we gleaned a hint that would help us find it. We probably could have figured it out ourselves if we had bothered to read the whole listing.....

It was time to assemble Team BOP as I hadn't seen these crazy people since the Mega. The plan was Taranaki via the Forgotten World Highway and we were all pretty excited about it. It was a big couple of days so forgive the cut'n'paste logs as I'm logging retrospectively and a few of the hides are starting to blur together. This spot was neat and we enjoyed exploring the area. The cache was found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward placement. TNXPro, McJandals, Davidson Clan & myself signed our logs individually or as TEAM BOP depending on time, log space or mood. Cheers & TFTC
Good to find some caches out of town also, but we were now conscious about leaving for home. Was 5 pm and still had 5 hours to go!

Found using Cachly app and logged using the text template, so please excuse generic logging in advance. On a spur of the moment roadie with Phillip.Perry, TNXPRO and Davidson Clan from the Bay of Plenty, a plan was hatched and here we are. Great to have these places to visit and many thanks to all you COs for the placements. Cheers A definite worthy FP. Plan was for the smileys but as we kept getting sidetracked with all the great caches in the area and after a blowout just got fixed in town by friendly tyre man out of hours, we had to make the call to head home as some of the team have work tomorrow. We will definitely be back!!
Out for a weekend of geocaching around New Plymouth down to Hawera and back home to the BOP. With Mcjandals Tnxpro and Philip.Perry signed the log team bop to save room.

I had the right equipment this time so a quick easy grab. there was not alot of signatures on the log tho CO may want to check ??? tftc
Finished up today in Hawera with half an hour of daylight to spare so I thought I'd grab a couple of caches.
Like so many others before me I didn't locate to tool but conventiantly had one of my own.
Log is quite damp and could do with a replacement.
Cheers

Luckily we had an appropriate tool in the car for a quick retrieve. Another cache towards the S39 challenge.
After picking up all the Smiley puzzles we continued on our travels towards Wanganui.
We couldn't find the hidden tool, but fortunately we had our own TOTT which worked a treat. Thanks.

I had another crack at this one with the help of the cache owner. TFTC
With GPetone we spent a most enjoyable HVTC day cycle ride exploring Hawera. A nice little hide with a great "retrival tool". For any other cyclist - beware of the boxthorn hedge cuttings. The thorns go straight into your tyre. TFTC
Tricky. Excellent with help of built in tool. Found while on PatandJohn's HVTC cycle and tramping Xmas trip while cycling around Hawera. Found with PatandJohn.

I do like a cache that requires a TOTT and even better this is one we carry in our caching bag, so no need to hunt around for the one that might be hidden in GZ. After seeing what was required it was a quick trip back to the car to retrieve the right tool and hey presto - cache in hand. All good here, nice way to execute this concept, thanks for the cache.
My second attempt. Found the tool this time, although I had come prepared! TFTC
very clever, did have a tott that would help on me, but spotted before heading for it, TFTC and fun
Nice find! Had fun with this one even though the weather isn't good at all. Tftc! Found with missymoomee.
This was my husband's (Andrew of Waiiti20) last cache found on his trip to the Taranaki before his fatal accident approximately 3 minutes later. Geocaching was his absolute all time favourite hobby - he died doing what he loved. He is now at home with his Heavenly Father. Sadly missed and loved by all his family. TFTC. Mrs Waiiti20 and family.
Found on a cycling adventure around South Taranaki. Had to return up Fraser Road so was pleasantly surprised to see line up of caches.
We quickly spotted the cache, but for the life of us couldn't see how it could be retrieved without a tool of some sort, so we resorted to our tool kit and succeeded in retrieving it. A favourite for a bit of a challenge. TFTC
Saw the host as I pulled up and took a quick look. Figured out what was required and as luck would have it, I have recently added what was required to my toolkit. Quick grab and return. TFTC
Good to finally knock this one off myself! Found tool and accessed cache quite quickly, despite having to admire view several times to distract muggles!! Thanks again, 2 Bulbars.
I had a sigh knowing I hadn't packed everything in, turns out it wasn't needed, another crafty cache that was a lot of fun to get. Gets a fav point from us. Tftc
Out for a day of geocaching around Hawera. As today was World Sauntering Day - the day to take it easy; relax, go for a stroll and enjoy some valuable ‘me time’, a day which encourages you to slow down and enjoy the world around you. So no excuses, time to go strolling looking for geocaches. Turned out it was the day for it, found 23 out of 24 caches.
Parked up and saw something handy so took a look and cache found....now how do I recover that. Look at that, there's a tool. Cache recovered, log signed then left as found. Nice cache 2 Bulbars, thanks for the placement.

A quick find, on approach to GZ I thought that object would be a great hide and what do you know. Great minds think alike. TFTC
A bit early for the nearby Tawhiti museum so stopped in to grab this cache. Fabulous camo. Overlooked cache initially then went back for another look. Log nice & dry. TFTC
Finally found it. The logbook is very wet and might need replacing. Thanks for the cache
TFTC. Obvious once found but needed a helping hand from a friendly neighbour.
Found it. Didn't leave log due to paper being wet. Needs new waterproofing. Great hide.
Nice camo, was suspect, but allowed Geo-10 and Hyjynx to have a go and enjoy the hunt before swooping in, they did make the find however without me having to spoil it.
Camo and log seemed to be in good condition, and no issues to report of, though we were almost hypnotized by the rows of produce over said fence.
Cheers

another great cache by 2 Bulbars! Walked right up to it, that doesnt happen often on hides like this, not for me anyways! Another favourite point, Hawera is collecting a few of these tonight!! TFTC
The place to search was quite clear but it took some time until I found this tricky container, really nice!
