04-Jun-23
Up and about quite early. Solved this near GZ and found the cahe at 5am. Yep, a nice early start to the day!

A four day weekend Kings birthday weekend? Yes, the boss gave us all an extra day off, just for the heck of it! So I headed to Wanganui and maybe Hawera to de-green the area.

#2387. Day 3 of a short stay at Koitiata aka Turakina Beach with GB Leader. Cached in Whanganui yesterday and we returned today for more numbers for the Wheel of Challenges.

Solved the puzzle earlier today, and picked it up at 7.05pm in the dark, the last cache of 22 on this lovely little holiday break.

I had solved the puzzle earlier so once at GZ Mr CD soon found the cache. TFTC

04-Jan-23
I did an eskimo roll here. I actually wanted to do the Whanganui Journey, but ultimately decided against it. I'd rather go paddling on the Baltic Sea again. Greetings to my neighbor!

31-Dec-22
Out for a wander around on new years eve, not to busy along here and made a quick find, TFTC

Went for a perambulation along the promenade for a dot day. Swapped hellos with the friendly day drinker in his deck chair. Quick find, thanks adventure collectors!

30-Nov-22
Easy puzzle to solve, or so I thought :/ After 2 unsuccessful attempts to find this cache I looked at my numbers again only to find an error. Needing some caches to help Signal escape the labyrinth, I decided to try again. This time it was a quick, easy find. Cache is dry and in good condition. Very nice to avenge a DNF, especially after failing our first search for a different cache. Tftc

A quick puzzle solve on this one, in anticipation of our trip to Whanganui. Thankfully the cache was a quick find as our fingers are starting to protest at the cold. TFTPC

19-Jun-22
A great way to start a day of caching - I got Mr P off his bike for a short walk with me and what do you know a puzzle cache found! T4tc

22-Apr-22
Found with StreetWalkerNZ while we travel from Foxton Beach to New Plymouth. The day started with heavy rain, then drizzle, then fine by the time we reached Bulls for morning coffee.
We walked around central Wanganui, completing a couple of ad labs and finding a few physical caches. I solved the puzzle and SW made the find, TFTC.

22-Apr-22
#20948. We saw this cache wasn't too far out of the way while we were doing an ad lab. Nice walk by the Mighty River and a quick find. Then time to head back to complete the ad lab. TFTC.

09-Mar-22
Solved this yesterday as I figured I could grab a puzzle while passing through Whanganui.

Easy solve and easy find.

Thanks for the cache!

26-Dec-21
Solved this puzzle at home in Northland with the intention of getting it while we were visiting Whanganui. Quick find on Christmas day evening.

27-Nov-21
I had solved this one a while ago and the updated puzzle piece has been staring at me on the map since then. After completing the nearby Adventure Lab and solving the units of measurement multi, I wandered along the river path until I got to GZ. Had to wait for a muggle to pass before I could start hunting but I soon had the cache in hand - a slight variation on this type of container Big Grin. Signed and replaced, then more wandering. All good here, and TFTC

I learnt a bit more about this mighty river when doing this puzzle. Found with Talla64 on a pleasant early summer's evening. Thank you for the cache.

Flowerydaze and I are up in Whanganui for a few days of caching and this one was on the list. A great day for caching TFTP.

A Day out exploring the Whanganui region. Yes this is a mighty river and grabbed the find while admiring it. Thanks for the puzzle and thanks for the cache.

27-Sep-20
We had a plan to try and clean up sole of the multi-caches around today this afternoon. Between the constant showers and wind though that hasn’t happened - yet anyway.

While out about we decided to sneak in a quick cache. We parked near the tram, sitting in the car to work out the coordinates. After walking for a bit we had a fair idea where we were headed.

Once we got to GZ it was all quiet which helped. A quick sign of the log and we replaced while no one was around. Now to head back to the tram for a ride.

Up in Wanganui (from Wellington) for the weekend and grabbing a few caches along the way. This was one of them. Solved this some time ago when my trips to Wangas started to be a regular thing. Finally made it here and found the hide on my second pass of the possible locations. All good here, TFTC

30-Aug-20
#8309. I came up to Whanganui yesterday to attend the Community Celebration event at CastleCliff. I decided a few weeks ago to make a weekend of it so stayed overnight in a motel near the river. Just before the trip Infoferret decided to join me on the weekender as her family had decided to go mountain-biking in Rotorua. So we spent the day mainly picking up caches IF had not yet found. I have done very little caching in the River City so everything was new for me as well. I had solved a number of puzzles prior to coming north to Whanganui. So first stop today was to pick up this one. It was a fairly straightforward puzzle to solve. The cache was found in about the third place checked early on a fairly mild and quiet Sunday morning. Signed the logbook and replaced as found. Thanks adventure collectors for hiding it here.

29-Aug-20
I enjoyed my stay in the "River City". It was good to actually be here, rather than just passing through. TFTC

18-Jun-20
Had fun learning more about the river! TFTC

28-Feb-20
We are continuing our caching journey with AF-Bee, GeoWench78 and 6ftzp&1/2zip. AF-BEE solved this on so it was an easy one for the rest of us. We had to ask a very nice young woman, if we could search where she was. No problem she said and we made the grab and replaced. Thanks adventure collectors for the fun and the view of the river.

28-Feb-20
Found with AF BEE, 6ftzpr&1/2zip, and ondago while on a geocaching vacation. Thanks for placing this cache.

28-Feb-20
We are on a geocaching adventure with ondago, AFBEE and GW78 finding lots of interesting caches along the way including this one. Great day and fun hide. TFTFun adventure collectors

OCW GeoWench78, ondago and 6ftzpr&1/2zip between Palmerston North and Taupo...this was a birthday cache (placed 6 years ago today)...solved it awhile back and made the quick grab after a short walk...asked a nice lady to allow us to search her perch and there was an event going on in the nearby park today...TFTC!

A quick grab on our way out of Whanganui. Lucky really - we realised we'd left some stuff at the motel. TFTC.

19-Dec-19
Solved this a while ago when I knew we were going to visit Whanganui. Quick find this afternoon. TFTC

15-Dec-19
Today I would be attending one of the local geocaching social highlights of the year, the Rattll Xmas BBQ. This would be my third one although the series has been going much longer than that.

With the recent launch of the TMGeoTour, and the fact that I had never actually been caching in Wanganui, I decided that I would leave home super early to target some specific caches and otherwise get some good caching in before attending the event. Having worked my way towards Wanganui the long way, I was now in the City itself, stopping to grab a few 'interesting' ones and some Puzzle caches I had made an effort to solve during the preceding week as I knew I would be passing them.

This one had been one of the easier Puzzle caches to solve, and with time running out before I was due to attend the BBQ I was hoping for a quick clean find at my solved co-ordinates. I needn't have worried, as the co-ords were very accurate and the Hint took me to the find straightaway.

The container and contents were perfectly dry, so I was able to sign and replace swiftly as found before setting on my way again. Thank you for placing this cache here.

01-Dec-19
Find number 6393. In Wanganui to assist a German friend who is doing the Te Araroa trail. After dropping her off at her starting point for today I then cycled along the river. At this point I was not able to search as a lady and her dog were having a conversation on her mobile. After waiting and no signs of finishing I carried on. So now it was part 2 of the day after lunch back at the holiday park. This time by car. No one here so able to make a quick find. Thank you for the placement.

23-Nov-19
Found 7pm

Today,s challenge was to collect all the TMGT caches in the greater Wellington area plus anything else we could find.
Morning started from Marton with a DNF. Hoping this was not a bad omen.
Anyway things improved and we got everything we wanted for the day and ending back in Whanganui.
Collected also some interesting caches and probably my fav for the day was the caves. Also some amazing history in this area.
Thanks to all the cache owners for these placements. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... This weekend’s mission was about completing the North Island leg of the TMGT. It involved a fairly extensive road trip through the Wellington, Manawatu/Whanganui, and Taranaki regions. We also made a plan to pick up other caches along our driving route...

Solved this one at home. We did a quick search of the final coordinates in Google Earth, and had a fair idea about where this was positioned... On arrival, we went into action. One of us decided to lie down on the job, but a wandering hand soon came away with it. Thanks adventure collectors. TFTP and TFTC.

Enjoying the caches in Wanganui. Thanks

I was riding past with Miss 8 so stopped to check on this cache. All is in order. Beaut day to be out and about near the Whanganui river.

With a group of Westies (rustynz, rebel98 & gorby) on wild weekend of caching fun Big Grin

This cache was solved a few days ago, so knew where we needed to be. Being late in the evening, no problems with muggles, but the cache wanted to be elusive.

Now I was searching the wrong one, when gorby searched the right one, and there the cache was. Thanks adventure collectors for the puzzle and the hide.

03-Feb-19
Day 2 of 3. Our adventure continues for myself and rustynz and Rebel98. We flew down to New Plymouth yesterday. Stayed the night at Ariki Backpackers last night in New Plymouth and now we’re caching here in Wanganui.

I was quite content to sit and yak to Rebel98 in the very cool rental that had nice air-con. So rusty jumped out of the car and we watched her as she did her search of the cache. Rebel commented, she's not finding it.... I agreed, so I jumped out of the car and aided her in the search. I laid on my back and whaddayknow! there it was. I handed it to rusty, she signed us in, and I replaced the cache while I was still on my back! How's **THAT** for teamwork eh!!! The Westies strike again.

Nice puzzle about wanganui. Laughing at the retrieval method. Luckily good time to find

26-Nov-18
Solved this ages ago. Tonight the perfect night to find. Quiet. Has finally stopped raining! And no muggles around. Quick find at gz. Tftc.

03-Apr-18
I helped work this out with trayc.g before our day trip here. I had a quick look for cache but couldn’t see so I ended up being look out while the others looked and found. TFTC

Worked out this puzzle yesterday before we left home. A nice quick park and grab with the right coords. Many thanks.

31-Mar-18
Decided that I needed to go on a road trip to get some caches and to try and get enough points to complete the Planetary Pursuit, wasnt quite sure that I was going to get there or not so hatch a plan with Mr-McGoo to team up go to Wanganui / Whanganui and pick up a few caches.

This was my 21st cache for this trip as we made our way around Wanganui, saw this cache on my list and as my trusty chauffeur made our way towards GZ. This was a cache that I had managed to solve quite a while back and have had it on my list of caches that I wanted to find but never got around too it.

We decided that we would park on a side road not too far from the final GZ and walk to GZ from there, as we neared GZ the GPS was pointing us to one of two hiding spots but we had to wait a little while the two muggles down the path moved on, once this happened mr-McGoo managed to retrieve the cache quickly in the first spot that he looked.

Managed to retrieve the cache from its clever hiding spot, signed and then replaced as we found, thanks RachelsRiffRaff for placing this clever cache here and for bringing us to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (13235)

On a caching trip to Wanganui with Yeetrees. It was an early start where we left Wellington at 5am and spend the morning there caching before heading home in the afternoon. Solved this one quickly last night. A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC

27-Mar-18
The puzzle had been one of a number solved before our overnight visit to Whanganui. No time to look for them all but we did want a walk by the river so this was perfect. No judgement from us.... Just pleasure that the cache had been replaced.
Thanks.

25-Mar-18
Have had this one solved for a while and have kept it up my sleeve awaiting the planetary exploration event since it would be a good scorer. Finally called in and collected it as it also served to fill in a dot day.

Thanks for the replacement.

Out and about with Miss 7 and geo-dog on a gorgeous sunny Sunday doing a maintenance run. Yep, this one is gone. I have replaced with it an eclipse mint tin.....please don't judge!

Remember to use extreme stealth when reaching for this cache as it's a very high muggle zone.

13-Jan-18
Think this one is missing. Found where it should be mounted but nothing there.

Added to watch list for the future.

Cheers.

First find of the day at 6.32 am!!!!!! Up with Infoferret for a numbers run. Enjoying the cool of the day. Signed Team ICE. TFTC

9 December 2017 06:32. First of a long day's caching with EthNz. Found the cache, spotted a duck! TFTC!

Does it need a lid?? Wink

22-Oct-17
I had solved this quite some time ago so wanted to try and pick this up while I was here for a day trip from the naki today. Picked up some additional earth and multi info on the way as a bonus. Quick grab at gz, lol where's the lid. And now home to the naki. What a day

#9468. We had solved this Whanganui puzzle some time ago, and even DNF the cache back in August 2015 after it had gone missing. (The flood of the mighty Whanganui River had apparently washed away the cache.) So it was pleasing that two years and one month later, we returned to find the river a lot more docile this time. GZ was fortunately all quiet when we visited. Quick find. Quite an effective hide and suitably clever appropriation of this type of container for this location. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing signed log.

Thanks for the puzzle and for bringing us back to this site, and …

Called here after lunch in the city, I had solved this one at home a little while ago. Found quickly in the second place checked, all in good condition. First cache I have seen with an open container of this type, but hey it works well! Signed log, TFTC

A new replacement is now in place.

Happy caching

Will need to replace this one.

07-Jan-17
Out and about with Pagenz on our last day in Whanganui and we had solved this one correctly. Unfortunately once at GZ we could find the hiding spot clearly but no cache. The CO has very graciously allowed us to be able to log this cache.

27-Dec-16

I almost got caught by some muggles I had just retrieved and open the cache when they appeared. They move on Another group of muggle appeared before i could return the cache while I was waiting for them to move on it then starting to spit and had sit there waiting for two more group of muggles to pass by before I could return the cache
Having returned the cache I headed back to my car and had only just got inside when started to rain

Cache is easy to find Just keep an eye out for people there is a blind spot

22-Dec-16
another nice easy puzzle to solve, as it was now nearing 7pm we were lucky the area was not busy, kaleb was getting 2.00 for every cache he found before us, well he found this one which also carried a massive big black spider, SSSOOO glad that I wasnt fast enough so moved away from gz while it ran up the other side. signed he log and kaleb place back for us. thanks for the placement.

I have replaced the cache and its ready to be found. The new container has no lock on it so it's simply a case of solve the puzzle and hunt for the cache.

Happy caching

I went to place a new cache container today but too many muggles about unfortunately. I'll try again when next in town.

Yup, this ones been muggled.

18-Aug-16
Think it's been muggled. Sad

05-Jun-16
Solved this puzzle a few weeks ago finally in town today. Early am search turned up nothing looked under a few Possible hint objects but nothing to be found

16-Apr-16
Nice quick find nice spot and great views cache all good tftc

16-Apr-16
Solved this a couple of weeks ago for my next trip to Wanganui. Found cache quite quickly, then a swarm of muggles came along so took a few minutes to often, sign and return. TFTC

19-Mar-16
Visiting from new Plymouth with a friend. Travelled up the river on the Waimarie. Fantastic trip. TFTC. Not too many people. Love the container.

23-Feb-16
I was so pleased I spotted this puzzle cache last night - - it enabled us to have a truly Whanganui River themed start to the day. We followed this with a cruise on the Waimarie paddle steamer and then turned our attention to the earthcache. I solved the puzzle, Libitee made the find, so it was a combined effort. Loved the hide and the little twist on getting into the cache. Thanks Big Grin!

12-Feb-16
Cache had been missing 6 months ago on a previous visit. Enjoyed the puzzle and finding the cache just as dusk was occurring. Thanks ADV collectors.

03-Feb-16
Very cool hide. Great cache. Enjoyed puzzle.

31-Jan-16
Great spot for a cache Smile found with GaBiG50.

31-Jan-16
We solved the interesting puzzle at home with StefTheVet and after our arrival in Wanganui in the afternoon we went for a nice long walk at the riverside. Easily found the beautiful container and logged without being watched. We took off the TB, a pink T, and left a homemade keyring. Thanks a lot, this puzzle gets a fav point for the really nice idea! TFTC!

13-Dec-15
Our first mystery in New Zealand! Yesterday I had a short view on the listing and it was quickly solved. Today we went for a nice walk and also visited the final location. The hide was quite obvious so it was a quick find.
1x TB in 1x TB out
TFTC!

21-Sep-15
Our solved co-ordinates put us in the middle of a road, but from there we could see a likely hiding spot. Walked over, checked it out and found the cache. Thanks.
We saw plenty of debris and silt evidence of just how mighty the Whanganui River can be while caching in the area today.

18-Sep-15
Thanks for the replacement. Back in Wanganui for the weekend and had time to re check my DNF from last visit. I did forget there was a lock on the Cache and had forgotten the numbers. Re check my maths and all was good. Dropped of a TB. Had to wait at GZ for some time to let the walkers go by.

05-Sep-15
Quick find right where I thoght it would be. Tftc

30-Aug-15
worked out puzzle a while ago, saw that this had been up and running again so as we were nearby, me and
Jesserfly parked up near GZ.
let the GPSr settle down and it was telling us middle of the road :'(
Checked smart phone and got same results.
Used eyes, and checked some logical hidey spots, and success had cache in hand, we decided to take to car as padlock and could hear things rattling inside.
Once in the "geoMobile" put the code in and...... did not open, rechecked mmhmm that's right.
Then it clicked and opened up cache page and rechecked questions, somehow I messed one answer up by 1, hence the road GZ and the lock not opening.... silly me.
TNLN but got the log signed and replacement took some minutes as it seems all the muggles turned up in force O_o
Cheers

Wow, I didn't think the flood waters would reach this high but there is evidence at GZ to suggest the flood did wash away this cache.

A new cache is now in place.

Happy caching.

10-Aug-15
Had a good hard look with another cacher who had found it some time ago. Certainly not here.

09-Aug-15
Solved but didn't find the cache. Has the mighty Whanganui River taken it in the last flood?

02-Aug-15
Found GZ I think maybe the flood has taken it

14-May-15
Muggles galore. Chose my time then went in for the grab. Nice little hidey spot. River flowing quite faat today with all this rain. Tftc

09-May-15
Decided to try and get as many unknown caches solved in Wanganui as possible as we were planning on coming over the local event today and wanted the option of finding them. Soon had the final coordinates sorted and happened to pick this one to find before heading to the event. Didn't take long to spot this one between passing traffic and thankfully the pathway was relatively quiet. Had the combination dutifully recorded in the cache notes so no problem signing the log and quickly returning the cache to the hiding spot before a couple of muggles walked by. TFTC adventure collectors.

30-Apr-15
Found it but had to revisit co-ordinates to open!! I used to live close by and wondered why so many people congregrated there !! Now I know what they know Wink

05-Apr-15
Enjoyed the puzzle and well thought out cache.

05-Apr-15
An overnight trip to Wanganui with TregearP to complete Seven Cache Types in a Day Challenge (Wtgn) - GC5PAD6. We had already completed a Puzzle but it seemed rude not to complete this one too as an extra.

A great cache and an impressive log book. All in good order.

TFTC.

28-Mar-15
Now this was very interesting. Looking on the map of the town. This was a cache I hadn't done. So I set about solving it only to find that it was all becoming too familiar!! Perhaps I had found this after all!. So I completed the co-ords by using the 'combination' of the info and the digits I found the GZ. And sure enough it was where I had been, and where I had found a comfortable seat to sit on to sign the log. Hence the very late log. thank you for this interesting cache on this mighty river!

16-Mar-15
A fun little puzzle and cool container which I found at dusk. Got a fright when I went to take the lid off and there was a cockroach on it. Aaaargh! At least there were no muggles about to see me jump. Tftc

03-Mar-15
Family picnicking at GZ meant I had to come back later but quick find once the coast was clear. Thanks for a fun cache.

Easily solved puzzle, quickly found between the muggles
