What a beautiful bush! To think the whole of wairarapa would have looked like this. Stunning birdsong too. The rain has made me take note of lots of new growth off the track and I wasnt too keen to get off track to get to the gz (but of course I did- and watched where I stepped!) Many thanks for bringing me here.
Out and about with Flowerydaze and a visitor from Texas USA spending the day in the Wairarapa on the "cache hunt". They say what goes up must come down but I have my doubts with this track. TFTC -jimmac
A quick find in a very pleasant area - a lovely place to walk and hear the birds. We heard lots of Tuis, fantails, a Kereru, blackbirds, a grey warbler and a magpie. The cache was found in the company of Talla64 and monk3ybash3r while enjoying a pleasant drive around the countryside. The log was signed MBFDT64 for the 3 of us to save space on the logsheet. Thanks very much for setting up this cache -jimmac-
This find was a small, a trad, and a missing DT grid space, all on a lovely walk, that I recall from some years ago. I'm not sure what the link is to the cache name, though? TFTC -jimmac-
Thought I'd be looking for a Neopanax arboreus but no! Unlike the Seagnoid, we heard very few birds altho another walker said they saw rosellas. An amusing comment from AceLeper about the terrain! A favorite point for such a wonderful reserve.Thank you -jimmac-
A nice quick find on a lovely walk around the sanctuary. Thanks for placing your cache. Ms_KR and I are off on another North Island tour, visiting family, art galleries and caches. Today we drove and cached our way from Masterton to Wellington, under fine skies for the most part.Occassionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.
A day in the Wairarapa today beginning in Featherston, then onto Martinborough, over to Carterton and behind then down to Greytown for the night. 18 Ad labs, 22 trads, 22 mystery and 1 multi, 4 muggled out so didn't look and only one DNF.
Have had the John Fensham reserve in my sights for a long time but never gotten around to it. Today rectified that and really enjoyed the wander around the bush.
Stunning in the bush with amazing moss on the trees. Thanks for the cache. And 895m towards the DGSc distance challenge.

While doing some geocaching out in the Wairarapa area today, I decided it would be a good idea to walk around this reserve, finding the geocaches hidden in it.
This was my first successful find in the reserve today. I parked my car at the entrance to these trails on the nearby Cobden Road and began walking. The brief walk to this cache was very enjoyable. The beautiful old trees provided me with plenty of shade from the afternoon sun, and the atmosphere in the forest was very serene. The walk to the cache was easy enough, though there were certain areas of mud which meant I had to take extra care. After a few more minutes of walking, the GPS started narrowing itself down on the cache. When I arrived at GZ, the whole area was very quiet. I began looking for the cache as I allowed my GPS to settle itself down. Soon the GPS had settled down and started providing me with more accurate coordinates. This improved accuracy, along with the helpful hint, enabled me to find this cache relatively quickly. I opened the container and signed the logbook. The cache and its contents are all in good condition. I soon replaced the cache and continued on my way.

Found on a day trip targeted at the Maths Journey series and a few other stragglers nearby that I hadn't found to date. Managed to find the Maths series at a rate of 12/hr, so it was all done in just over 1.5hrs, leaving plenty of time for the extra caches I had my eye on.

Needed this one for the last part of my BGSc 401 challenge. What a lovely time of the day to go for a walk. Late afternoon the cicadas (see photo) were still happily singing and birdsong was everywhere. Ignoring my wobbly coords increased the search area to obvious spots - soon found cache sitting nestled with no camo. Left cache covered with some standard natural camo.
Track slightly muddy in just the odd patch, when had it been wet - it was a beautiful summer's afternoon? A great wee bush walk, throughly enjoyed it.
Cache and contents saturated, the waterproof log doing its job, gave it wipe down and a new plastic bag to reside in.

Out to take the kids on a hike and pick up some caches on the way. This was the one we most wanted in order to tick off an empty D/T slot. While the terrain wasn't a 4.5, it felt a bit like it dragging 2 kids around! At the GZ we found an obvious place but digging around we couldn't find a thing. We looked back towards the track and it was sitting right there for an easy find! TFTC
*Catching up on some long overdue logging*A group of Wellington cachers are staying for the weekend in the Wairarapa, courtesy of Twig's Tours - A fun adventure for all!!!Saturday was spent caching around Masterton and Greytown, while Sunday we had our sights set on heading up Mt Dick and grabbing some other caches around the Carterton area. As there was a number of caches around this walk it seemed like an obvious place to go.I had a limited time to cache before needing to head back to Lower Hutt. The walk took a little longer than expected but our group made good pace. This cache was a quick find with lots of keen eyes searching the area. Thanks for the cache.
I am spending this weekend in the Wairarapa, in the company of some great caching friends. So far it's been a great weekend of relaxing, caching, drinking, and talking complete nonsense (as you do). The weather yesterday wasn't the best, but this morning we woke to glorious sunshine and an appetite to just get out there and explore!
So after having a wonderful time visiting Mt Dick, followed by a treat of delicious ice creams, we decided that an hour strolling around the Fensham Reserve would be just the ticket. We decided to take the clockwise circuit starting from the eastern entrance.
This was our first cache, and an easy find at GZ. I'm rather surprised at the T rating here. I wouldn't rate it as any higher than a T2.5 at most and if it were mine I'd have it as a T2. But just happy to find the cache and add our temporary gang of 5 names to the log.
Thanks for placing this cache here.

Wow, the trapping programme must be working well here, the place is laud with birds! Mostly tui, but I head a few others that I couldn't place. Five of us went for the walk around and It was kinda cool that that that matched the cache name! Nice easy find by TwigNZ after I had walked past, just as I was about to turn around and check some areas on the way down.
There are a group of 10 us over here this weekend caching around and about the Wairapara. Today was a stunning day and having driven past here yesterday and been told it was a lovely bit of bush, once we looked at the 6 green dots it became a destination for our afternoon for some of us, before heading home to Wellie. The advice was right it is truly a lovely little gem to visit. We set off at a pace to do the loop. Nice easy find here by TwigNZ I think. There was even a gang of five of us when we logged the cache - perfect!
This took longer than it should have and it was Andy who eventually had it in hand thanks to our smallest microcacher’s “super sonic eyes”
What a lovely spot to discover. Many thanks for placing caches here and making it a destination.
Found during a break from cycling trip out from Carterton with Pat and. John. Cache container had tumbled out from its hiding place. We replaced it. TFTC
Found with livingk while on a cycle ride with a group of friends from Carterton to the Mangaterere Roadend. A wonderful reserve. TFTC
Lovely beech trees here and the nice ground covering of their little leaves
We did not get here until about 3.00pm and off we set meeting quite a few other walkers on the tracks and introducing one couple into what geo caching actually was .
I expected the wet lands to be fairly flat and low lying so i was surprised at the height to which it rose but despite this there was still plenty of water.
We went to Masterton for the day to locate the few newer caches there i did not have , plus The walk around Henley lake and the Fenshaw wetland bush walk all of which we did although not getting home until nearly 9,00pm after starting off at 8.00am.
we took nothing and left nothing but photos and thankfulness to be able to walk freely around this reserve,

A quick find and a good cache.Wrote the log and re-concealed carefully.A delightful walk around this reserve on a good, fine afternoon.TFTC!
Found in a family visit from Rotorua. 10yr old used clue. Was suggested this walk from a friend who grew up here. Lovely place!
I misinterpreted the title and looked for quite a while in totally the wrong places until a rethink had me looking in a different place to be rewarded with the cache. Not much light left by this time. TFTC
Took a while for GPS to settle down but a quick find then ensued. Nice and dry inside this one. Some impressive black beech specimens around here.
Gorgeous day for a walk in a lovely. Quick find once we spotted the title item and cleared the webs. TDTC
The last find on the Fensham reserve loop walk. It's always great to explore a new area new so thanks for placing the caches there
This cache caused me a surprising amount of trouble. When I first arrived the GPS was indicating I should search in a place that turned out to be some 20m from the actual location. It gradually pulled me over the right area with more likely hiding places but the cache would not reveal itself. Resigned to a DNF I did the rest of the circuit and revisited just before leaving. This time I paid attention to the title (I neglected that before) and concentrated on what would be the right place. Then the reason for missing the cache revealed itself - deep burial in tree litter. Rewarding to find a reasonable size cache in there after all that. The cache is now covered with sticks instead of litter so as not to confound future searchers. TFTC.
Thanks for showing me this gorgeous reserve. Would not have known about it otherwise. TFTC
Thank you for bringing me to the Fensham Reserve, it was beautiful, and a place I would never have found otherwise. Cache safe and sound. TFTC
Loving this track so far. Quick easy find when the right nestling place was found.
After the 2018 WENZ Mega event
mr and mrs went on a Wairarapa tiki tour, and...
What an awesome little track, and different bird calls in different parts of the track
Thanks for bringing us here

My last cache in this wonderful reserve. It was a quick find once in the right location.
Thank you again for placing such an awesome series of geocaches in this reserve. I had a blast walking the trail and I was able to find all the geocaches.

#5984. Been looking forward to another outing in the Wairarapa. This time I am hoping I might crack the 6000 cache find mark. This cluster of caches at Fensham Reserve has been showing up on my trips to Masterton and beyond so many times. But was trying to get bulk numbers and didn't have time for the forest walk. Today I decided it was time to do the circuit. What a surprising bush reserve. I expected it to be all podocarp and tawa but no it is much more diverse than that. A really outstanding reserve with black beech and hard beech and areas of huge tall podocarps (kahikatea, matai, miro, totara and rimu). Some ginormous trees in there. Headed off along the track and was pleased I wore gumboots today as the path was very muddy. Soon reached the GZ. Didn't take long to realise this one was off the track and the cache title was very helpful. I saw the T rating and thought I might be scrambling up a tree for this cache. Was relieved to find it with my feet on Terra Firma. Signed the log sheet and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for the cache -jimmac-.
We needed some lettuce for dinner tonight, and since we were heading into town for that, we thought we'd throw in a family hike as well! I really must learn to pay more attention to cache names; this one was well named and would have sent me more directly to the hide, had I known it. Miss 3Prettys made this find, the first on our hike through this lovely area.
Thank you for the cache.
Thank you for the cache.
09:56. A much quicker find once I trusted my phone GPS! Added my name to the green paper. TFTC, liking the reserve.
I got my car back from the panelbeaters on Friday where it has been for the past three week after a minor skirmish (non-geocaching related) at Christmas. I've been a bit home region bound for the duration, having to rely on my secondary caching mobile, a Vespa, while able to go long distances and top speeds, isn't ideal in crap weather and for gps checking. To celebrate the return of the primary cache mobile, I've headed to the wairarapa to knock off some of the skindo puzzles I've solved in the past three weeks, as well as some traditionals that I'll pass on the way.
I pulled into the parking area and enjoyed a spot of lunch and watching the antics of the horse in the paddock before tackling this cache. Pleasant walk through this lovely reserve up to the gz and the cache was quickly in hand. TFTC

After a major road trip of 750km down to Masterton for the Wings Over Wairarapa air show the weather unfortunately caused both days of the show to be cancelled. However the start of the week was to be our "tourist" time to see some of the Wairarapa sights and the weather has improved to give a cloudless summer's day for our drive to Castlepoint today. Also great weather for a bit of caching with the aim today to break the 500 cache milestone.
Last full day in the Wairarapa as we head to the Manawatu tomorrow to get ready for the Ohakea Air Force Airshow next weekend - hoping for better weather than we had at Masterton. Today was "walk in the bush" day so we thought this reserve with its group of caches and the Mt Holdsworth area would be a good day out.
The Reserves is a pleasant walk on a hot summer's day with a well marked track. From the number of people we bumped into while on our bush walk and cache hunt, especially considering this is mid-week, it looks like this is a popular place for the locals.
The cache was a quick find.

Our first grandchild was born on Friday 10th Feb and today I had to let other family have their turn at visiting so to fill the void lol I decided to pick up CNAH and go get some recently solved caches in the Wairarapa. Hubby (Grandad lol) had gone to Manfield racing. I have also been working on Skindo's 2 by 2 series so wanted a few of them. We left at 9.30am and got home at 8pm. Not an entirely successful day. Lost signal in Carterton which spoilt things and it was windy and so when we had gps it was jumping everywhere and would do nothing then jump and we would be past the cache. It was lovely spending the day with Mum and we enjoyed getting what we did. On the bright side we get to go back again soon to pick up more of what we missed this time.
Had to try for this D/T that I needed for my Matrix Challenge. Ran out of time to go further today but will return. Rewarded for the effort by finding and picking up the trackable. Awesome. TFTC

Went to the Wairarapa today to visit family. A group of us went for a walk through the reserve and let the kids take turns using the GPS to find the caches on the loop we completed. Dropped off a TB. *TFTC jimmac*
Nice easy cache once I got the right set of trees. A very generous terrain setting too. TFTC
TFTC, loving this little known reserve with wonderful bush and lots of bird life. Cache all good thanks
A quick find while walking through this beautiful reserve. Phone about to run out of battery so moving onto the next one at a fast pace. TFTC
A gorgeous reserve with amazing native trees and birds. Really enjoyed exploring the area. The gang of 5 are lovely all standing together. TFTC

I had visited this reserve a couple of times before and I was happy to return to search for some more caches. I was a bit nervous about taking on a cache with a terrain rating of 4.5 when 2.0 is currently about my limit. It turned out there was no need for such a high rating and I was able to easily make my way to the cache site for an instant find.
An easy find and I retrieved the two trackables in the cache. I've had a lovely walk through the native bush today. TF all TC.
Quick find off track.
Took a TB, left a TB and a Travel Coin
Final count today is 43. Wb-jnr and I headed off on a half day to the Wairarapa after doing some chores around home. We ended up being just under nine hours cache to cache, however escaped trouble when we got home by stopping for a bottle of wine. I was cautioned that it worked this time but not to expect it to work every time
We had a great day and loved the significant differences between this and some of our recent full day caching adventures whilst in Ireland earlier this month. We always enjoy local caching with the following (which have been contrary to some of our Ireland experiences):
- Almost all of the caches we attempted were actually there! Couldn't believe how many in Ireland needed maintenance or at the very least checking. Some days we planned on getting 40 which should have been easy, however came home with only half as many smilies. I think the best day was 24!
- The co-ords are pretty accurate. If you get to Ireland, expect some of the coords to be 20m out - frequently.
- On a couple of caches here I found some prickly stuff. The amount of caches in Ireland where you wish you had leather gloves and sleeves was incredible. Not to mention even a gentle brush against the nettle causes a stinging sensation for a couple of hours - just in time for another brush
All in all, a really lovely day caching back near home. Beautiful weather and a great day of caching company with my son. Thanks to all the cache owners

Second stop of the trip round the reserve. Nice easy find with help of the hint. Dropped off TB.
Sweet sounds of birdsong singing in the bush and a lawn mower in the distance... great day for a walk. This completes our Fensham finds. Tftc
I was up this way for Work today, took advantage of a nice afternoon to squeeze in a bit of caching as well. Didn't have time to do the full circuit unfortunately. TFTC
Not the nicest of days today - very overcast & just a slight bit of drizzle, but at least we didn't have to worry about the cold as we warmed up getting to GZ. Cache was quickly located.
Left a pet rock - a badger. Took the "smurf TB". TFTC -jimmac-

Found on a cool winters day. A great walk in this Reserve. cache name so adapt. TFTC.
First cache in the Fensham Reserve. Not sure why the terrain is 4.5 as even Mycro Man (nearly 5), Violet Butterfly (4) and Astro Hunter (3) all walked to the cache. Thanks for the cache.
