Out and about in Pretty Valley while the cyclists are taking on the Peaks Challenge. What a great spot for a cache - thanks.
Still hiking around the area with our group from Melbourne. We stopped here for a lunch break. These huts are amazing as is the scenery. We were lucky to see so many wild flowers in bloom. Thanks for the opportunity for another find in this wonderful area skullracing
Arrived at Tawonga huts with a school group for a hike out to the Fainter's and back. While they were figuring out how to set up their tents, I took this as an oppertunity to find this cache. Great camping spot and pretty interesting to have a total of four huts! Navigated to the right hut and with the hint it was a quick retrieval. Once again great spot. TFTC
While staying at the YMCA camp with my bush walking club I was able to make these amazing walks in this wonderful area. The flowers were in fine form and different to when I was here last month. The most amazing thing are the snow gum markings. All are different and very artful. Called into Tarwonga Hut for morning tea. We were told that this area was water bombed during the 2003 big fires because of the iconic snow gums here. Wonderful markings and such character. Its morning tea here so it was a good chance to look around. Thanks so much skullracing. for bringing me here. Love reading the history about these mountain men.
Found easily after setting up camp for the night. Pleased to be able to combine two of my favourite hobbies, hiking and caching! Thanks for the hide
Thanks for the great hint as there were so many other people nearby. Superb views of Bogong. Lots of noisy birds nearby.
This week I was driving a support vehicle, towing a camp kitchen for Longyard Tours and today we were camped at Pretty Valley Camping ground. After doing a supply run into Falls Creek and having some lunch we set off walking to the huts. Our timing was perfect as the horse riders were at the huts when we arrived, after a rest and a chat we checked out the huts and found the cache. TFTC
We set off before the riders and got back to the camp before them to have their afternoon tea ready

Quick find Perfect night. 5 days out with Beechworth SC on Future Makers program. Yipppeee
It was a great day for a walk but a few jobs to do in the lodge first. Finally got away around 1pm and drove over to Pretty Valley. We decided to walk to the Tawonga Huts and started on up the hill past a fisherman cleaning a trout. Met a vehicle coming down. We passed Ben Cooper’s Cairn and got to the huts around 4 pm. The cache was found soon after. Thanks Skullracing for getting us to place last visited maybe 30 years ago.
Last time I went out to Young's Hut, I returned and came down to the Tawonga Huts. I thought it was for a cache, but I have no record of it in GSAK, so it must have just been out of curiosity that I came. This time I had a purpose, and even though it is below the 1700 metre mark, it's still a smiley, and that's all it takes.
There was no-one staying there at the time. The school girls all left this morning, so my search was unimpeded. I found the cache easily with the aid of the clue, and I was soon on my way back up the hill. I couldn't work out why the toilet door was in two sections, a top and a bottom, and only the top part appeared to be lockable.
It's funny, it wasn't much more than a very slight decline coming down, but going up it seemed a bit steeper - I must be getting tired.
Thanks to skullracing for the enjoyable detour and for the cache.

Found it, on our Epic 4 day Easter Hike, from Loch Carpark, Mt Loch, Dericks, Dibbins, Youngs, Mt. Jim, out to Tawonga Huts, day walking to Mt Jaithmathang , and the Fainters, to return via the Red Robbin Mine, and Mt Loch.
Today, on day 3, we have the luxury of not having to decamp, but enjoy a great day walk and return to our camp ready for tea and bed. As we were just about camped on top of this cache and we got in tired the previous night we thought we would leave this one for the morning, with a fresh start.
It was such a quick & easy find that our muggle friend came up with the goods before we even got our heads anywhere near looking.
TFTC and a great location, especially to camp for 2 nights.

Camped at the Huts on Friday beautiful starry night, just sat there watching satellites fly by
Found at 6.05pm. Am exploring the Fainter range for a few days, and this camp is my base.
I had to wait until the shooting contractor who was using the hut as his base to leave for his nightly deer shoot. He told me he had shot 20 deer in the area over the last couple of nights.
Amazing to realise how many feral animals are invading our National Parks.
Once the coast was clear an easy find was made,
Love the character of these old Alpine huts

Thanks

##2nd find on the Summer Camp 2017 weekend Yeah!##
*Early start of 4am for the summer camp 2017, the plan was to head to Mt Buffalo for a quick visit, Smoko for a tree climb then hit Falls Creek for a MTB ride to the Fainters before heading to the trail head for the main Event.
Well things don’t always go to plan, do they? A detour on the hume added an extra hour to the trip, operator error saw disappointment at Buffalo then mechanism failure at smoke, what a day!.
Well I was glad to leave the heat of the lowlands and head up into the hills for my shortened Tour De Falls Creek Adventure. Finally had some success up the track and this was my next stop on the way back to the car. Parked the bike on a large flat rock and was to step off said rock when I caught sight of the tail end of a rather large snake, what was followed could only be described as the best “Running Man dance” I’ve done to date, needless to say I let the local have this parking spot.
The cache was found after a short but very noisy search, all was good inside so left my mark and moved on hurriedly as I had an event to get to*
***Thx Skullracing, what prime spot to highlight with a geocache***
La ringrazio molto il mio amico
Cheers

Quick find while on a hike during the early Easter. Glorious weather for it. Cache in good nick, so I deemed it suitable for dropping a TB. TFTC.
Found during a 3-day walk around the Bogong High Plains with family and friends. We lucked out with great weather. What a wonderful place this is. The cache is in good shape. TNLNSL. TFTC!
#1079 - Second cache of the day on a walk to Bogong Village starting from the Pretty Valley Pondage.
A great rest stop and a bit of a history lesson as well from the CO!
Amazing how one of the huts was lugged all the way up here by heavy machinery!
Once again following in the footsteps of Day and Adriaan, sedgwickDave and I closed in on GZ for a generously packed cache.

While on the hike to the event at Mt Fainter as well as seeing how track fit I really am we stopped here at this hut which is a great morning tea stop. Just as we arrived 2 other hikers were moving on probably having stay in the hut overnight. Again myself and mountain goat team up for a joint quick find of this cache while the others rested their legs. By this stage I had found a rhythm and the through of another 26km to go was not a concern... The flies were alot thicker in this spot probably more then any other spot today. With about 500ml water drunk and a cheese & bacon roll followed by a chocolate bar swallow like a pelican it was time to move onto the event GZ at Mt Fainter south.

After a good night camping down at Smoko, Day and I headed for Pretty Valley to set up camp. With plenty of daylight left, we decided a long walk was in order, so a hike out to Youngs hut was in order. A bit of a diversion to collect the unloved off this one was first. A great hike down into the valley and down to the huts where Day hunted out the cache while I busied myself doing other things. A Fav point for the fantastic location.

A great spot for a cache. Dropped by here with ahomburg the day before the event to steal all of the unlove in the area that we could. Great spot for lunch, which I have visited a few times now.
Found on our wayout from a night at the Fainters. A great morning tea stop.

had a gr8 w/end in the high country. walked out from Pretty Valley Pond with the Border Bushwalking Club (11 in total) to youngs hut which the club does upkeep and repairs on. I was the only one camping and the crew went back to the cars after lunch. Sunday morn i headed off towards Tawonga Huts. I had hoped to pick up a few other caches in the area but the only batteries i bought along were all duds. After a beautiful walk not bumping into anyone, checking out birds , lizards , flowers and dodging brumbies i got to the hut. the hint was always going to find me the cache but even so , with 4 huts on site i managed to scratch around under each hut twice b4 thinking , "maybe that tin thing over there is'nt the old toilet" and voila! my one find for the w/end. a beautiful spot. tftc skullracing, tnln.
I'm out for 5 days in the Bogong High Plains hiking with a group of Year 9's from Beechworth Secondary College who are taking part in the Future Makers course offered by Bogong Outdoor Education Centre. The goal of the journey is for the kids to gain a sense of being able to function efficiently in an Alpine environment and develop an emotional connection and appreciation for the area.
Day 4
Having arrived at Tawonga Huts the day before it was quite tempting to go and log this cache then. But a looming bad weather forecast meant I might not get up the Fainters as we went passed so foresight led me to wait until the morning to log this find (the BSC kids went and assured me it was there). I woke to a fairly clear morning, with views down into the valley and the sun trying to peak through the clouds. The cache was retrieved and log book signed before the morning ritual at the outhouse nearby...
This is a really nice camp site where we enjoyed a fire in one of the huts over night. Beaut to listen to the flowing stream during the night as well.

2nd cache in a day walk with Polly (Thornbill3690) - this one was an easy find for me while Polly got the lunch out. All huts in very good condition. 5 mountainbikers came past, heading for Fainter. TFTC! Dropped off Rotary Travel Bug.....
was out on a one week hiking trip with my outdoor education class and i insisted i take along the old GPS
our first day was a 15 km hike from a group of campsites close to falls creek to Ryders hut on the bogong high plains.
This cache is in a great location as only myself and three others found out as only we attempted to ride down that hill, that nightmare of a hill to ride up.........
i quickly had the cache in hand and then went a short ride away to Fainter Falls which, wow were they nice, had a drink and a bit of a rock hop the off on the track i went again.
(collapsed once on the trail and had to be woken up, was out for about five minutes apparently due to exhaustion and dehydration, so STAY HYDRATED!)
took car left another car.
TFTC Fave point again.
thanks skullracing.

FTF...!!
With very little on the agenda today the decison was made to grab a few hours of high altitude exercise.
What better way than to find a few, new unfound cache's up the creek.
Arrived at the Pondage approx 8.15am, it was raining and the outside temp was approx 9 degrees.
The Specialized MTB was deployed for this cache, having walked the track a few times in the past i new the down hills would be a buzz, ... a buzz it was even more so due to the wet weather .
Arrived at the Huts after stopping on the way for the Multi cache "The Mountain Cattleman", the rain was still falling, i must have just missed some campers as the smell of a campfire was still in the air.
The cache was found quickly thanks to the hint, the log booked opened to "A White Blank Page".
Thanks Skullracing for another reason to come back to this top spot.

I stayed at these huts on 12/3, only days after publication and didn't even know it was here. I downloaded the caches in the area a couple of weeks ago. Stayed here with Chisholm Tafe Outdoor Leadership students on six day bushwalking/ navigation trip. I will be doing another trip later in the year so i will pick it up then. Cheers, BWbandit
