Why is it you find the easy trail when you turn around to come back..Look for the gate at the top end or turn left at the fork in the path before the big tree. Path easily identified and saves a crazy scrambleMagnificent view from GZ!Enjoying two weeks on Norfolk Island. Beautiful place, thank you endeavour3 for placing this game piece here, showcasing this lovely area and contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy. Happy trails!

Having just been down in Ball Bay to try our hand at walking along the coastline Against the Wind it was interesting to now see it from an elevated location. Goodness, another steep walk!Lieutenant Henry Lidgbird Ball has some interesting geographical features named in his honour. This bay which definitely resembles the edge of a crater is really beautiful. I have also been to Ball's Pyramid, not so long ago although it did take 2 trips more than 20 years apart to get there - beautiful weather both trips but wrong seas last century. This century I was able to snare the Earthcache there so that was a bonus!TFTC # 6063

#14400 10:45The third day of Geo Adventure 2024 with a group of 30+ geocachers visiting Norfolk Island. Roaming around the island for a few days, a smaller group decided to tackle sthe East coast of the island today. We followed the cow-trail from the top of the hill to the cache. Another steep slope but not as bad as Short Wave. At GZ we played around with the old-mans-beard before signing duties.TFTC Endeavour3.

Another gorgeous location and view. We opted to come from above. That's a slope and there isn't much grazing, but it looks like the cows love the place too. Thanks endeavour3. FP awarded.

My buddies: bella at waggyNorfolk is gorgeous! The slopes here are also ?? scary. I was always a few steps behind my geobuddy, never feeling very sure-footed! We had Intel from a previous finder on where to park & how to get to the cache. We found the cache pretty quickly when we reached the correct elevation!Thank you endeavour3, for creating, placing and maintaining this cache. Wow, this bay was amazing. Thanks for providing the parking coordinates , it sure helped with access. Fairly staright forward walk down the ridgeline, straight to GZ. All good there too. Great views down to the bay. Thanks for the geology of the bay. That's why its perfectly spherical and the boulders ae so shiny and round. Another great walk.

# 8945 Norfolk Day 3, team "Dem CBR" myself, iPlod65, Joolay, barb2e and contesta had another fantastic day of caching and exploration. We started down at Kingston with our host for the morning: Endevour3. It was cool and very blustery today, but not enough to discourage us. Then it was off to east coast to grab some more difficult caches. Lots of climbing today, but always stunning destinations. Finally off up to Captain Cook Pt for a couple of amazing spots.Yet another amazing place. A bit tricky to get to, but well worth it.Some logs signed collectively "Dem CBR".Thanks endeavour3 for the Traditional Cache

T-Tech and I are visiting Norfolk Island for our 40th anniversary. We arrived from Brisbane and are staying for 2 weeks at Endeavour Lodge, and plan to get some R&R, see all of the sites, learn the history, and gather every cache here so we can claim the Se Dun Challenge Big GrinThis afternoon we headed out to Ball Bay to gather a few caches. We had a bit of a struggle locating the start of the walk, but soon enough found ourselves at GZ. Love the hiding spot. TFTC, endeavour3.

During July my wife and I took a break from Melbourne and spent a wonderful week on the Island - the first time for me (but hopefully not the last) and the second for her. Such a delightful place! I took my GPSr, with the traditionals downloaded (I don't really make the time to do puzzles or multis) and figured I would find a few as we went around the place. I never had any intention of finding all 41 of them, but somewhere around day 5 I realised it was actually feasible.

In the end it was a close call - one quite tough-to-get-to cache (Bird Island) I had to visit twice after not reading the description before my first visit and discovering it is really a multi and then stuffing up the calculations so I had an almost blind search for the cache; another (St Barnabas) was out of its hidey hole so took three visits before I found it among some fallen leaves nearby). But I got there and managed to claim them all.

In the interests of saving the limited data on my phone, I only look placeholder drafts during the week and am completing them back home, a month later. So with all due apologies, they are going to be pretty generic for the most part. But I will add comments about those that I particularly remember. No matter how detailed the final logs, I want to say a big thanks to those who have placed the caches and those who continue to maintain them. I had great fun finding them and they really helped make sure I saw as much of the Island as possible. So - a big and sincere TFTC Smile

As with the sister cache on the other side of the road, I definitely managed to do this one the hard way. I approached from the bottom, initially unsure which side of the steep little ravine the cache was on. So I elected to head up the middle of the ravine, leaving a short but very steep climb up towards GZ. This also left an excursion through some thick bushes on the way. All excellent fun and more so because of the self-imposed extra challenge involved. Terrific views from up here!

Exploring NI today via geocaching. If it wasn’t for the description I’d have thought Ball Bay was named after the shape of the rocks. Left my husband with the car while I made the trek down to retrieve the cache. TFTC

Found, thank goodness for cows! One was watching me with interest, I guess it was wondering, wtf are you doing? Tftc

Parked at the recommended spot and headed past the cūs. Signed log and beat a fairly quick retreat - the wind was already getting up and blowing the branches around, 24 hrs early. Thanks for the cache

Almost started a cow stampede at this one. They got used to me in the end but only after a skitterish run towards the cache.

Thanks for bringing out my inner cow girl.

Out with Dabble today. The two sisters getting the hard ones. We were rewarded with yet another lovely spot. I’m glad we saved this for last. We’re done now. On a plane tomorrow back to NZ. Will have to save the rest for our next visit.

Today is Wazza9 & my last day of geocaching on the Island. We came 7 days ago, today marks that we have found every cache on the Island. 6th cache of 10 today, a very quick find. Stamped log and replaced. Thanks to CO. Great views

TFTC,
Day 7 on the Island and back into some walking to caches. Our aim was to finish the 10 remaining caches on the Island so that we don't have to panic tomorrow.
That was a struggle. Added a favourite and visited trackables.

16-Oct-22
On the 15 Day of October 2022 I was transported from the Mainland to Norfolk Island to serve 7 days in detention. On arrival at NI, I was transported by the Bounti bus to my prison quarters at Ocean Breeze Cottages.

Early in the morning on 16 October I managed to escape the prison accompanied by another (muggle). The guards were still asleep as we absconded in a Honda wheeled vehicle. We thought New Zealand may be closer so set off heading East.

We wandered in via the obvious route we noticed a new dwelling going in above. Perhaps it was them who alerted the authorities. We were over over- joyed to be recaptured and forced to remain on NI.

Time to head to Norfolk Island to celabrate our 70th birthdays. When we were here before we were not geocachers, this visit will be spent gathering geocaches and revisiting our favourite places. Our appologies for the generic logs it does not take away the enjoyment we have found in the fantastic places they have been placed and all the different styles of caches that we are enjoying,

After lunchtime, we've shed Mum and Oliver, and are leaner now.... and the rain is even lighter, we headed out to Ball Bay and Kingston, remembering to fire up the Adventure Lab app too this time, grabbing another 20 smilies for the afternoon, and another GA locationless.....
We decided on the 'start from above' route, and trekked down among the bovine cache guardians. An easy find at GZ, and then trekked back out. Then down into the bay.... TFTC!

19-Apr-22
After we dropped my mum and brother at our cottage, we drove over here to do some of the caches around the area. After reading the description we found the trailhead waypoint, which seemed like a smart place to start our walk. It was quite a steep walk down to the cache but a cool walk with a nice view.

This afternoon decided to tackle this cache. Parked the car. Waited until 2 Wagtails arrived and we then were on our way. We took the extra long way, but hey, we had time! Finally arrived and Cache was found and log signed. Took the much shorter way back to the car. We completed the circuit lol. TFTC endeavour3

While there was a bit of break in the showery weather we ventured over to the parking co-ords for Ball Bay cache. Joined by 2Wagtails to make the find. Thanks.

This arvo as we were driving around the countryside we spotted Joojoo57 and Richmond Lad’s car pulled off to the side of the road and then spotted them about 50m away heading down the hill. We quickly pulled over and jumped out to see where they were heading. Off to Ball Bay cache. Great! We hadn’t found this one so we tagged along.

Well it seems there are several ways to this cache. We only realised this when we were at the cache. We sure took the steep and harder way up. It was a bit of a trudge but we got there. Naturally we took the easier route back to the cars.

Thank you for the cache. The walk was quite enjoyable actually.

03-Dec-21
Took the easier option off martins road, following along the track to a pleasant little spot.

Trip log: Norfolk Island... Not something we had been planning to do but with GreyHams noticing travel here was starting up again, a good deal on flights and that this would count as a new caching 'country' this was indeed a very tempting location to visit.

Puzzles were solved, our double vaccinations certificates ready to go. A last minute change in the entry requirements added our PCR tests... but we arrived.

We had a challenge to collect as many of the caches as we could in the 48 hours we would be on the Island... A caching trip, but one that guided us around into every hidden gem the Island had to offer. All its beauty, history, scenic and quirky... and moisture! Humidity that sucked the energy out of every pore as we sweated our way about, but it was awesome!

An event the first evening was fantastic to meet with endeavour3, a wealth of local knowledge and assistance... both caching and the local area. It was great to confirm details, amend as needed and with a few DNFs help us back on track.

An honourable mention to the cows, especially the one that licked all over the car, the feral chickens (but not the roosters that wake up far to early and noisily) and the very friendly waving people everywhere we went!

Thanks for your cache that helped guide us about, and can all the caches be found within 48 hours... I'm very pleased to say that yes we could!

03-Dec-21
Aquilus1 and myself were on a mission: Go to Norfolk Island and clear the place out in 48 hours! This we achieved as we arrived well prepared, having ground out the puzzles (some with assistance) so that we had coords for nearly all hides before leaving Australia.

Brain tickler test & vaccination certificates in hand, we were shocked on arrival that our Australian mobiles had no roaming coverage....NONE! But, thankfully it seems most accommodation not only comes with a car, but comes with a phone as well.

I swear we did at least 5 laps of the island, I knew my way around very well by the end. NI is such a beautiful place, I am coming back with the family in a month and I already know exactly where I will take them.

On our first day we hosted an event and thankfully the local legend cacher, endeavour3, graced us with his presence. Some sage advice on the trickiest of NI hides was gladly received Smile

And, it has to be said......OMG THE HUMIDITY!!! Canberra has none at all, it was a major shock to the system!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nice walk down to this one, what amazes me are the cows that clearly come down here.

Interesting approach to the cache with cattle grazing nearby (see photo). Was dreading a challenging walk, and was relieved that it wasn’t. Nicely placed cache. Tftc

Our last trad on the island to find. Another great spot and we have enjoyed each and every cache. Thanks to endeavour3 for placing and maintaining so many caches so visitors like us can find them.

20-Jul-21
Our last Trad find on the island, and an enjoyable walk to GZ. Glad we chose to access the cache coming down from Martin's Road rather than huff and puff up from Ball Bay. A small group of local moo-gles watched cautiously as we made the find. Thanks!

19-Jul-21
The walk to the cache was easier than anticipated and it was very serene at GZ under the canopy with parrots about. Tftc.

Great directions to this spot. Heard a bizarre bird sound. No idea what it is. Did spot an island rooster on the way. Thanks for the hide. Nice view.

What a blustery day to be out on an exposed ridge! A very windswept and invigorating spot for a cache. THe walk past the cattle was pleasant, And the white. Terns accompanied me to GZ. Cache in good condition. I left a couple of items for the next finder. TFTC, endeavour3

Found it! Toughest terrain yet. We should have gone downhill from the main road. We climbed uphill. Our four kids enjoyed the adventure anyway. The cache was worth the effort. Thanks for the fun!

11th find on Norfolk. 10.30am.

Came at this one from the road above. In theory, it’s probably the better choice but I chose the wrong side of the valley to go down first. Ran into a herd of cows before realising I had to turn back. Luckily, I stumbled upon the small path that cuts through a part of the valley so I didn’t have to back track too far. Once at GZ, the cache and another perfect spot were discovered.

TFTC!

**Happy Foundation Day**

I parked at the trailhead and made my way toward GZ. There were some cows grazing closeby but they are more intent on eating the grass than worrying about me. The cache was soon spied and the log signed. It was a bit of a workout returning to the car. I'm really enjoying my caching adventures on Norfolk Island. Thanks again endeavour3.

07-Feb-19
A pity I didn't quite remember all the hints as to how to reach this cache, but enough to get me there relatively easily. Yep there are a couplke of hills on this island and I reckon there's a cache on almost every one. Tonight sitting at home logging these caches, the knees are starting to lock up. No worries, I'll work it out in New Zealand later this week. TFTC endeavour3. SL

25-Jan-19
Justjessie and I made a late decision to spend a week holidaying on Norfolk. A quick check of the caching map revealed the "Se Dun challenge" The local term for completing something, so we set about "completing" all 53 caches on the Island. Can't be that hard can it....?
And here i was thinking it was called Ball Bay because of the round ballast rocks. Would be super impressive to see the ships tie up here and do the fuel transfer.

Each log has a random picture from our time on the Island, we would recommend it to other cachers as a great way to spend a week, getting to know the Island the people and their heritage.
