We found the original cache and log book that started with the FTF 2014 nestled in its hidey hole.
The coordinates are a bit dodgy due to the tree canopy, we found it about 10m off coords. Seems there may be two caches in situ as there were some names missing in the log book.
Thanks Mars for showing us this amazing tree.

Headed out for a days caching towards the Collie area with a couple of 2001 listed 4x4 caches high on the agenda. C10 and I set off from Cockburn and made our way down South Western Highway towards Pinjarra where we metup with RebelJamie (who won’t log these finds) to grab a bunch of caches for the day.

We stopped by here on our way to under the stump the nearby 2001 cache. Must admit I went to the big stump not the big tree first and then Cravo suggested I should look elsewhere and we made a quick find.

Thanks Mars35 for placing and maintaining this cache. Out and about with Barnzy12 getting a few smily faces.

Heading out to the oldie down the road from here so stopped in and added our names to this cache. TFTH

We have been wanting to visit this area for some time now & decided that now was a good a time as any... This is a beautiful area & your not wrong about the big tree Surprised

Searched away from the obvious spot for a few minutes before deciding that's where it had to be... Jase soon uncovered the prize under a couple of years of leaf litter Big Grin

TFTC & for making us stop here lenni41o Cool

Spent the night down here for a day of 4wheel driving around the tracks. We set camp close by and as we headed out we grabbed this cache. Easily found and in good condition. Tftc

We followed Big Tree Road to Big Tree and this Big Tree Cache. A very pleasant "themed" drive. tftc Smile

... There's a lot of rust -- we needed a screwdriver to force the lid open.

Well, our little Geokid's 3rd birthday, and he wanted to go treasure hunting, so we plugged in four caches nearby, and set off with the mindset we would do a few quick caches and return home... an idea which would soon end up being an epic trip for four caches.

This was the second on the rank... but sadly it wasn't to be found. Every damn nook and cranny of every scrap of vegetation around the area, and nope. Despite the efforts of previous cachers to replace the box, it seems that it's gone missing again, a trend that seems to be recurring with non premium cache locations. Kids were a bit down hearted, but, we swept the spiderwebs from our hair and piled back into the geotruck and headed off to our next one, "Delica Down".

Thanks for taking us here. A very big old tree with only a few possible hiding spots. After a extensive search we called it and walked back the the car. Just as we were about to leave. Team Richlink pulled up and joined the search but they too couldn't find it. So with permission from the owner replaced the cache and we all could log a find. It was good to catch up with Team Richlink for a cider and some snacks.

Met up with JacobsCrew2 and Barnzy12 to do the Gnome Fun multi and a few other caches in the Serpentine/Mundijong area. Those caches completed, we headed south picking up further caches along the route. Beautiful day to be out caching really enjoyed the back country roads - our kind of caching. This was to be our last cache of day and we pulled up to find Pollythecollie and adinache teams about to depart empty handed. We joined in for another extensive search which proved fruitless. As the cache was last found around 15 months ago we replaced the container (small Sistema) and I emailed the CO to update her. Thanks Mars35

We spent the day 4 wheel driving around Collie finding some caches as we went. This cache looked as if we were going to have to log as DNF as we had search all the possible hiding spots and were about to head off when team Richlink arrived. We Joined them in another search and were able to log the replacement cache. It was great exchanging some caching stories with team Richlink over a drink and nibbles.

Struck out here. Searched the two most obvious spots thoroughly but no good. Co-ords were showing a little ways away so I searched around there a fair bit too. Will be interested in seeing the next post here to see if I was off my game or if its possibly been muggled. Thanks lenni41o for bringing me to a very impressive tree though. Hopefully I shall return.

(chwiliwr team catch up log)

Chwiliwr had to do a delivery to the south so we decided do some caches along the way and make a day of it.

Took the time to drive off the highway and come and get this cache. No problems with finding this cache which was the last cache for this area.

Thanks lenni41o for the cache.

What better way to herald the New Year in than to go getting your car scratched? Actually this was probably the most sedate cache we did today, but it is in some spectacular country. Thanks for the fun

Happy New Year!!

We may have been pikers last night, but we were up bright and early this morning, anticipating a big day's adventuring out in "them thar hills" south east of Harvey. ~Tango~ had been out this way on a previous expedition and had warned me that some of the tracks up and down the hills around here were a bit hairy, and we wasn't kidding. This one was a quick park and grab compared to some of the others though. Awesome tree too.

Thanks for the smiley lenni41o

Out for another day to grab a cache Smile

I said to muggle partner lets grab this one and take the back way back to Brunswick.
All good taking Sandalwood Rd as the blacktop goes for a good distance (I'm sure it never use to go this far 30+ years ago).
Yep turned onto the correct gravel road, a bit of corrugation but cache was getting closer Cool

Saw the big tree on approach, all still good. Took a minute or two longer than it should have to find the cache as I only saw one little opening not two probably as I was too busy not trying to trip over anything Smile

ok cache found and duties done Big Grin. What a big tree and would be good to know the age of it as no other ones this size around.

As I had Google Earth the area I suggested to follow the track south instead of backtracking from the cache, basically 'lets take the quicker way' home.

OMG a big mistake. Lovely rocky slope down that we took ever so slowly but managed. Followed the track to get to the end and road is closed because bridge is no longer standing so we backtracked a bit and took a different track.
Another downward slope but this time wet clay and ruts. The 4WD wheels were facing one direction and the car was going in the other Sad.
Then took another track and got to a small part of the river so again backtracked to another track with some more clay and a wider, deeper part of the river Sad. The tyres at this stage were packed with clay so had no grip whatsoever so a lot of sliding and the car had clay up most of it.
Went back to smaller part of river and partner walked it. Thankfully it was firm and shallow enough to drive through and give the car a bit of a wash too Smile
Didn't realise how happy I was to reach the railway line as the road was over the other side Smile

I really didn't think we would get home as going back to this cache was not an option and if had left it another few more weeks we probably wouldn't have been able to cross the river Sad.
Four tracks we took ended up at rivers of varying depths and widths while other tracks were too steep to go down because of the clay and massive ruts Sad

All I can say is thank goodness for having a high clearance 4WD but I am banned from getting the other caches up this way until well into summer Razz

One cache I'm not going to forget anytime soon believe me Big Grin

S 33° 12.442 E 115° 57.230

Coordinates changed to:

Distance from original: 142.4 feet or 43.4 meters.
Thank you itdepends for better co-ordinates.

No worries mate. Updated coordinates. I did find as per below my GPS drifted by 9m as soon as I picked it up- but it was sitting averaging for 10 minutes first so should be reasonable.

South 33 degrees, 12.419
East 115 degrees, 57.225

First to find!

Bashing around the bush getting Delicia Down and Bob's Kiss and dropped in to get this one on the way out. Nearly didn't make it. GZ is 30-40m from the cache location and it was only because one of the kids paid more attention to the cache name than the cache coordinates that we found it. Got a waypoint average if the CO is interested (took 10 min for the GPS to settle- and after I picked it up it immediately drifted by 9m. Must have been something blocking the signal a bit......)

Thanks for the cache.

23-Mar-14
Yes please itdepends I can't do that on my GPs and a big tree was in the way so that will be very helpful, thankyou and congrats on finding this cache with its dodgy co-ords
