I came over the ditch from Oz three weeks ago to do a bucket list road trip around South Island. After doing my lap of the island, I'm now back in Christchurch for a couple of days of sightseeing and a bit more caching, mostly for virtuals and challenge caches.This challenge cache caught my eye when I was planning this trip ... it's one I've not seen before. It went on my NZ hit list straight away, and when I checked my finds, I found that I had already qualified to log it as a find, so just a matter of rocking up and signing the log sheet. Easier said than done ... the hint didn't help, but a slow and systematic search of the steamroller did bear results. I reckon it was time for a sit down and a rest, though, after I found it!My qualifying finds cover the period 2012 to 2021, and my total is 138.5 ... see attached print out.Thanks very much for setting this decadent challenge for me and other geocachers to pursue and enjoy. A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island.So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in on Saturday 2 weeks ago after a bit of a delay.Hopefully the weather improves today as Im missing the sunshine that I had earlier on this trip.So Day 15 of my Mega NZ starts and I have made it back to Christchurch where this trip began 2 weeks ago.I have throughly enjoyed my time on the South Island and will miss the place.Im doing an outer loop of the city as I had a list of caches that I wanted to find before leaving.This one will be checked when I get home and can compile a list.Thanks La Vista TFTCC.

I signed the log today and will follow up with a found log once I meet the requirements or confirm that I have already done so. Thanks for this challenge as this and other challenge caches always add to my to do list which adds another interesting aspect of geocaching. Were also carrying out maintenance along the way on behalf of the CO replacing many damaged containers and logs which the CO was happy to supply and for which we are very grateful.

A trip over the dittecch and I'm in the land of the big white cloud. Yep, Made it to Christchurch and onto Dunedin for a week of caching. DAY Three, (24/10) yep, its the same crew of Bluewattle, Snickersallan, Wollaston and myself touring around town. Today we are doing a series of challenge caches, some solved puzzle caches and a few multis. It's a long drive to Diamond Harbour and Deep Gully Bay before heading over to West Melton and surrounds to get some of the eclipse series. Had a few others on the list as we passed by collecting some of Christchurchs cool caches. There are a few set target caches along the way. The are some amazing areas of Christchurch and I have enjoyed driving around and seeing the fantastic sights, thank you for showing us around. All logs were signed and all caches replaced as found. Thanks for the placements.

Tiz13 loves her challenges, so this afternoon, she set off to grab as many on her list as she could, including this one. Challenge accepted qualifying log to follow in due course. Loved Gz and finding the cache was a challenge in itself.

#3869 Today is day 9 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm touring around Christchurch and finding some geocaches in the area.Found it! I walked to the back and got spiderwebs on my face. In the final week of what has been a 2.5 month working holiday through South East Asia and Oceania. Having signed the log - now back home in the UK I have been able to do the researchA trawl through GSAK revealled a nice selection of puzzles solved and found that were hidden between 2010 and 2019A variety of DT though obviously chose high and managed to get a total score of 180 (see chart) So challenge completed and now logged as foundTFTC and challengeTim and Viv - ddm

Picking caches around Christchurch today for a challenge that I am working.
Please see attached photo for my decade. 2008 to 2017 total 122

I'd done a bit of homework to establish I qualify for this one (see below) and headed over to sign the log. As I got closer I thought "I've been here before". Sure enough: log signed 4/5/21 in preparation. The cache is still in the same spot I originally found it - zero creep!
Given I'd had a few quiet caching years this one was a bit of a challenge to qualify for.

Signed today as I mistook it for another nearby challenge that I know I qualify for...
I may already qualify for this, or at least not far off, but I'll have to go through and figure out whether I do, and if not I'll start working on getting there.

A fun find- well tucked away... after reading old logs I finally had a "peekaboo" moment and was able to make the grab

On a weekend mission to qualify for another GLSC licence. Quantity requirement achieved, now for the quality i.e. 20 different D/T combos.
This cache fitted the bill nicely. A fun find too. I worked out my qualification caches a few years ago.

Northland's Team Gold (0B80B8, Liz Crew, DaffyNZ) are in Christchurch for a few days collecting all our solved puzzles and other cache types as we drive past. This is our "Big Day Out" to collect as many caches as we can in a day. Sorry for the generic logs. Thanks for placing the cache. Team G0LD: Geocachers 0B80B8, Lis's crew and DaffyNZ are down from Whangarei for a few days. We've all solved the 4 big geoarts so they are the main target for the trip.

Of course there were many other puzzles solved as well. We certainly made a great dent in my solved puzzle list but I'll still have enough for another trip.

I love a challenge and I knew I easily qualified for this one. Finding the actual cache took a bit of a hint before one of the team found it. I've taken a photo of my finds and see I have 18 years of puzzle finds .Thanks for the fun challenge and an interesting place to hide a cache

Team G0LD ( 0B80B8, Lis's crew & DaffyNZ ) on a caching mission to Christchurch. We had travelled down from Whangarei on Wednesday avo. Solved puzzles were going to be the main focus of our trip. We had spent a lot of 2020 and 2021 solving over 400 puzzles, so we had a lot on our list.

Today looked like being the best weather for our trip, despite a heavy thunderstorm overnight. We had a Big Day Out planned, with a perhaps optimistic target of finding 300 caches in one day. Working together well as a team, with a driver, a navigator and a jumper, we made good progress, but in the end, the bigger distances between caches, that we hadn't anticipated, meant we ended the day a bit short.

A fun day though certainly, and sincere thanks to the GeoArt & Trail CO's, and others, for placing and then maintaining such large numbers of caches so well. A testament to your dedication to Geocaching was the very low number of DNF's during the day. Apologies for the mostly generic logs, but be assured your efforts were truly appreciated.

A bit wet from the overnight rain, and it did take me quite a while to spot the cache in the not really expected place. Should have really sat down and thought about it, but I would have got even wetter trou. !!

In preparation for this trip down to Christchurch I had a look at some of the challenge caches in were available. I was pretty surprised that I qualified for this cache. My difficulty ratings total 70, while my terrain ratings total 56; making a grand total of 126.

I have attached a photo of my qualifying caches. I enjoyed hunting for them as they brought back lots of memories. Favourite given.

In Canterbury for a 25th wedding anniversary and am caching with GraciesGPSfun as well. Today is our last day caching as we both head north this afternoon.

Today Mrs C took Mr C for a drive to this one as happy he is now home from hospital. He told quite a few nurses and doctors about Geochaching and got a few loading the app to explore.

I love a good challenge cache! Caching, specific objectives, well-formatted spreadsheets - challenge caches have it all. Kozjah was with me to find the cache. It was a bit tricky but if you search the most obvious thing, you’ll be fine. Thanks for the challenge!

Covid lock down gave me more time than I knew what to do with. After checking challenges and solving puzzles I qualify for this.

After a did not find 18 months (when i worked out i easily had the required caches - but since lost that list ! ) but it was raining and the trees were dripping, so it was good to go back and locate the cache this time without much bother and it was not raining !
It is nicely tucked away yet not too difficult to locate . thank you for this cache . next to assemble the evidence for this cache which previously had and now to find it again hopefully.

Yeah got it. Out picking up challenge and puzzle caches sorted out during lockdown. A fine museum by the look of it to add to the must do list.

Adding this one to the list for our November (hopefully) trip. Made the 10 years with just 20 caches but added a couple more years for good measure.

In the area today so stopped by to sign the log in preparation for actually qualifying. Still working on it so will log the "find" when I do qualify.
No longer hidden as per the hint, but an easy find nonetheless.

Heading north for the weekend, I made a detour to grab this challenge cache. It was dark when I got to GZ and let out a little groan when I saw where the cache would be. Torch out I made a systematic search and luckily found it after one complete round of the area. Qualifying list attached. Tftc

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with EyeSpyBen we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with ABCDF4 we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.

With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...

There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!

1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...

After the police gave us the bum's rush from McLeans Island it was necessary to find something else to do in the vicinity. We spotted a couple of challenge puzzles in the neighbourhood that we qualify for - No problem with the hide. Nicely done! Thanks La Vista. TFTP and TFTC.

We were in Chch for a week or so and i visted the caches around the airport. I knew i qualified for this cache and despite the teaming rain i decided i must visit this cache. Well the rain fell and trees around dripped even more water and the grass was sodden, so altogether i was cross with myself for not locating this cache .
There were just so many possibilities so my next visit to the s outisland i will need to enquire futher and get more help with this one.

On an overnight work trip down to Ashburton and following a fog-delayed flight form Nelson via Welly I was now on the ground and ready to find some caches en route to Ash Vegus...

Another nice challenge I was pleased to see that I qualified for.

A wee bit of searching was needed here but a fingertip search paid dividends after a few minutes

Greetings from Scotland. We are enjoying an extended holiday in New Zealand. Today we decided to take the drive to Arthur's Pass and back to Christchurch as we had blue skies and sunshine. We are now on our way back and saw this one coming up on the SatNav. We knew we qualified as we did the homework before we left home. Despite a good hint it wasn't an instant find but we got there in the end.

What a great challenge I was able to visit today with Dingo79. The cache was sought and found.

My profile is public and proves that I qualify the challenge. More than 3000 solved puzzles in a period of over ten years will hopefully serve as proof.

Together with TEMBO! I had a really interesting geocaching-trip today. We could find some geocaches, met some locals and had a great talk to them.
Concerning this geocache I want to say thanks because we had much fun in searching and finding this geocache! The cache made our trip even more interesting!

We planned a caching expedition in the area, and soon toted up a qualifying list, as per the image attached. At GZ, in keeping with the comments of of others, finding the cache did require a thorough search. Only after spying it through a hole did we manage to get the eclipse in hand. We added a new plastic bag as the log book was a bit damp. TFTC!

Stunning day to be out caching with our Southland and Otago friends. Stopped by to pick this cache as we made our way around some of the series and enjoyed the views of the snow capped mountains in the distance. Thanks for the effort of placing and maintaining this cache.

In Christchurch for the Otago/Southland raid on Christchurch... as their is no Mega this labour weekend we decided to make our own mini Epic event. Jumped in a car with a few others from Dunedin and tried to make a start on the Eclipse series... but picked a few more on the way.

With no Mega in sight for the weekend, a bunch of Otago and Southland cachers invaded Christchurch this weekend. Today I cached with Hevic, Gadget169, K.J.R, and natalie247 to blitz our way through a bunch of caches in and around western Christchurch. Apologies for the C&P logs but I'll never catch up otherwise!

I was rather busy solving a puzzle in the car when we found this one so I wasn't sure at the time if I'd qualified, but given the amount of puzzle caches I'd found I figured I'd be OK. And OK I was - qualifying caches attached. No issues at GZ. Cheers!

We were not going to bother with trying to gather the 500 points required to complete the set of cache carnival souvenirs but we got chatting on Wednesday night and we realised that a weekend in Christchurch would soon accumulate the required points. A list was made of a few highly favourited caches and today we planned to find several of them.
We were nearby finding a highly favourited cache and noticed that we had qualified for this challenge so we came to have a look for it. We were pleased it was a cold wet afternoon in the weekend as all was fairly quiet around GZ. See my note written on the 31-5-18 for our qualifying list of caches.

Went through my logs and found that I had qualified for this challenge. Yay!
We called at GZ on the way home from the city to find the cache. It took a little bit of searching for but our persistence paid off and we got it in the end.

Had already been looking for this once but that was one of the times where I didn't log a DNF. Today, back with some backup and the cache was soon found. Just have to find the right angle where to look from.

As for the challenge, I knew that I surely qualify, but the main challenge was just to put the caches in the list and pick out the highest D+T rated ones to see the maximum amount of points I can score with the minimum amount of allowed caches (2 per year).
And my total score is - 155. Pretty decent and decadent.

Need to check but think I qualify. Out with Ruru_nz while she had extra time in Chch between flights. Tricky little devil this one.

Spending the day with KCN on the was back up to Taranaki. What else to do but go caching...
Qualified a whole ago, will find the details and update log when I'm back home.
Actual find took a while... as I'm flying out again this evening I wasn't keep on getting too dirty and the area is a bit wet today. Finally got the right angle to spot it, followed by a careful extraction of a larger than expected container.
A favourite for the challenge and the location.

We did not really expect to qualify for that challenge cache but when we checked it we did actually. We got 135.5 points. We collected the cache on our way to Christchurch.

I'm from Norway, escaping the cold winter and travelling around New Zealand for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tourguide. Today was my last day in Christchurch, so the focus was to find all of the challenge-caches. I love challenge-caches, that's what made me addicted to this game, and that's what keeps me going. It's also nice to collect the rewards for all the hard work.

About this cache:
The container was an easy find thanks to the hint. I wasn't sure if I was qualified until now, but I found an easy way to check it. Neat hiding place it seems like I had to wait another decade while a family came out and stuffed around endlessly till they finally drove off. T-Tech and I are travelling around South Island for 6 weeks

It's the last day of our holiday, and we are exploring the greater Christchurch area. We stayed last night at Woolston, and T-Tech was a bit keen to grab a few Challenge caches before we had to hand back the campervan.

This one took a bit of work to find, but we both enjoyed seeing the old machine. TFTC and Challenge, La Vista.

Over from Australia to attend the Oamaru Geofeast. In Christcurch caching with Di Morgan and doing the nearby series while in the area. Ran into a few other teams along the way. Still missing a few so will work on getting this completed.
