A great family day, first stop for the day was Glenrowan to check out the new Ned Kelly discovery hub. And a few other places. Then, onto Winton Wetlands to complete a few caches, then over to Goorambat to complete the silo art trail before ending up in Yarrawonga to catch the end of the Mulwala Rod Run. It was a fun day with lots of great caches found. We pulled over and wandered over to this one. Lots of bird life around. TFTC!

Thanks for placing this cache, no pen/pencil in cache, couldn't sign book.

21-May-24
This was a nice little walk to GZ. A tree near GZ looked almost artistic, there were some interesting spider webs covered in water from the fog and although we couldn't see them, we heard what sounded like several hundred corellas. TFTC Harrowang

27-Mar-24
Heading towards Albury en route to Canberra, I picked a few caches along the way to break my journey..Nice quick find after a short walk. Thanks to ptw312 (adopted by Harrowang) for the cache.

13-Mar-24
Found it after some looking.

16-Oct-23
I was heading up to Bright from Melbourne today to join friends for a week touring the high country... taking my time so I could find caches in the Benalla and Wangaratta LGAs... the things you do when you get bitten by the "challenges bug". It was now early afternoon and I still had many caches to find... so it was on to the Winton Wetlands... and some mixed success in hunting caches. This cache took a while to find... the indicated GZ pulled my up well short of the water's edge... with no cache to find. Then I noticed an unmarked box up a tree... a small nesting box perhaps, but with no obvious openings. Definitely a possible cache... but if it was, it was definitely not a T1.5. Reading some previous logs made me realise that I needed to be closer to the water... so I ignored the *box up a tree* and went and found what I was really looking for... the cache! Thanks **Harrowang** for keeping this **ptw312** cache going.

This is another of those hidden gems that geocaches take us to. I'm thoroughly enjoying the beauty of nature in this area. I have been pleased, however, to not come across any snakes during my time here. I didn't see any, but I'm sure there were some who knew I was there. I always tread heavily to give plenty of warning that I am approaching. Although I like snakes, I'm still very "respectful" of them.Thank you ptw312 and Harrowang for adding so much pleasure to our hobby.

I got a few hours spare this afternoon and it was warm (but not as hot as yesterday) so I headed down to Winton Wetlands to do some birding and also get a few caches. Was surprised how many cars were out and about enjoying the summer weather.

First on the way down - jumped out and heard lots of Dusky woodswallows in the trees. Black-fronted Dotterels at the waters edge. Cache was a quick find - might get wet if the lake ever hills again?

Parked and assessed that GZ was a little way off.
Jogged in, through some long grass, the "tshhhhhhh"....
Managed to burst the "air" in my Nike's..
Cache located and signed..
My shoes reminding me that I had killed one every second step, back to the Subi, by sighing loudly. Funny stuff!!

The walk to gz was cold as the wind whipped past us, apparently it was even too cold for the ducks as there were none to be seen today. The cache was found in the obvious spot before heading back to the warmth of the car.
Thanks ptw312 for the placement.

09-Nov-20
We were not wearing approriate socks/footwear for this one as the grass was long and the trek was a couple of hundred metres from where we parked. After reaching gz the cache was quickly located. Ben had had enough of the grass seeds sticking to his socks so I carried him back to the car. TFTC

30-Sep-20
Found with bird noises abound by bicycle. Tftc on overcast day. Dropped off TB.

26-Sep-20

19-Sep-20
On our way back from a small bush walk in the warbies, we decided to stop and pick up this one on our way home. Once at the GZ area, I searched around in all the obvious spots for a while, until I read the previous logs. Found the cache out in the open. Log book signed and retuned. TFTC, good to see some water in the pond area. TFTC

12-Sep-20
Today was supposed to be a good day for ducks.
Instead, I got this cache and a few others in perfectly dry conditions.

I feel I have driven past this cache a hundred times but always at the end of a long day or in the company of cachers that already had it. I was only too pleased to finally scribble my name in it too.

TFTC ptw312.

Although on fairly open ground with little cover, the cache, and contents, was found and returned in good condition (handled only with sanitised hands).

11-Aug-18
Found by Mary & David at 0925. Seemed like a good idea yesterday to have a couple of nights in Wang and tackle the Winton Wetlands series while we don't need a kayak. Now it's raining! Cockatoos everywhere, screeching in annoyance at our presence. Saw a wallaby making a slow retreat, and a few ducks out on the pond. Our thanks to ptw312.

27-Jul-18
I'd noticed a lot of caches showing up in the middle of Lake Mokoan last night Razz
And was very surprised to find that you could walk, ride or drive to them [:o]
Nobody told me that this lake had been decommissioned and turned into wetlands.
Until last night Smile
So today it was time to do some exploring of the previously unknown area.
The kayak could stay on the roof of the geomobile.

First stop here and I got me first taste of the area.
Beautiful [^]
And a short stroll through the trees took me to the pond,
which boasted more than just ducks in it today Big Grin
So much birdlife in one spot is amazing !!

A cache was eventually tracked down while the ducks watched me suspiciously from afar [:o]

18-Jun-18
Heading up here to Winton Wetlands with sorceysal and 08151605 to collect a few caches. We parked in the designated place and ate some lunch, donned our jackets, hats and gloves and then headed off.
Fortunately the rain held off while we discovered the hides at the various highlighted areas in the wetlands. We did see, some birds, bird prints, plenty of kangaroos, and even a wild duck! No pelicans today though. Our imagination ran wild with some of the' tree characters' as we approached each area. That kept us entertained.
By the time we returned to the car we were quite warm and glad of the rest.
Of course, it was then that the rain started again. We were so lucky!
Michael did the honours here.

17-Jun-18
The reason for our trip today was to get these caches. Arrived at the parking spot and thankfully the rain had stopped. A bit of lunch, a cuppa, coats on and off on a most enjoyable walk around these wetlands. Saw lots of wildlife and this is obviously an extremely healthy area even if there is little water. Thanksptw312 for bringing us here today.

13-May-18
First find for the day after a short walk from the road.

02-May-18
I woke up and saw that a new cache had already been published Surprised
Hang on, I'm getting a decided case of deja vu here Surprised[?]Wink This can't be right as I was only there doing a multi 3 days agoSurprised[?]Surprised
This one was a much harder decision though as I'd already spent my already borrowed fuel money 3 days ago but since it's now a new month.... well suffice to say I borrowed MORE fuel money RazzWinkBig Grin Rex and I went out for a drive [^]
My multi cache blues are sadly still alive and well as it took me about 3 workings out to get a decent looking GZ at the 1st cache of the day Red FaceSurprisedRed Face
After getting the 1st cache find at 10.38am (FTF too Cool) we then cached on until the last cache find at 10.43pm and arrived home at midnight after finding 10 SmileCool caches for the day [^] No idea who was the most tired [)]: Rex or me[?]Wink

A nice little walk in and with dry ground there was no slippery spots for me to fall over on! [^]
Rex had a blast and found himself a frisbee... sort of Surprised It was a broken turtle shell that he carried around like it was a frisbee Razz
Cache was found quickly about 9m from the GZ that my GPSr showed but in the obvious hiding spot. Smile
It was good to see the only part of the wetlands that currently has water in it! Cool

15-Nov-17
We were camping the night at the Wetlands free camp. This was just down the road and we still had plenty of daylight for a cache hunt. Not deterred by the previous DNF because even if we couldn't find the cache we could still have a bike ride. It was on the way that MrsG, the bearer of the pen, realised she was penless and was now badly willing the cache to have one or would it just be easier to have a DNF like the last seeker and eliminate the problem altogether ?? Never!! A first half hearted search missed the cache but after looking harder it was found . . . and with nothing remotely like a writing stick inside. It was suggested MrG produce some blood for ink (which sounded fair even though it wasn't him that forgot the pen and he'd found the cache) but he had a better idea. Signed with freshly produced charcoal. TFTC ptw312.

Spent way too long looking for this one. Unless it’s at ground level and under grass I had exhausted all other places to look.

We're off on a four day geofamily (Geodad: moneydork, Geomum:Tounga, Geosis: locus cache and geobro: ME) road trip adventure heading to Albury and Bendigo. A lot of miles were covered, many sights seen, lots of laughs, mirth and merriment during the trip. Oh, we found a few caches along the way as well. Day 3 was moving day.

The family discussed whether we should be visiting this cache given the locked gate at the parking coords. The decision was made to go. A nice spot.

I didn't see a Freiburg or 2012 Mega Event Tour trackables in this cache.  Since it's been some time since the trackables were placed here I'd say that they have unfortunately gone missing. As the owner of this cache you can mark the trackables as missing.  This action will remove them from the cache inventory and place them in the great cache in the sky.

Thanks for the cache ptw.

Out again this morning in the Benalla area continuing my quest to visit as many 2015 Victorian Geocache of the Year Award nominees as possible before the event on 27 February, find out more at the event page http://coord.info/GC679HV . Also grabbing a few bonus caches along the way.
Wandered out across the vast wetland plains to find this cache but was very tentative when I found the hide. Grabbed the container very quickly to extract from it's hidie-hole funny expecting it to be followed out by a 2 meter snake but luckily today the cache was lonely. No snakes, no TB's
Thanks for placing this cache ptw312
