This cache was sort of on my route home so I thought I would come across the river to find it. I'd looked at the map and saw there was a bridge, so it shouldn't be a problem.....that was until I got to the bridge. The stuff of nightmares. I am terrified of these bridges. At one point I thought about turning around and going back to the car. But then I thought I might want another cache more. I put my car keys in one pocket and my phone in the other, then pulled my t-shirt down to cover my pockets and be an extra bit of friction in case everything was going to jump out into the river. And then slowly I made my way across. Slower than you are even picturing. And then I stepped on the wobbly plank, and very nearly died. But I was almost there. It was a very quick find at GZ, spotting the tell tale sign of a cache under some camo and I had the log signed and everything replaced.Very nice log paper, I've never seen any like that before. That meant it was time to go back across the bridge. I was almost across when I saw a pair of fishers coming down to the bridge, so I had to speed up a bit because no way could I be on there with somebody coming in the other direction, and luckily I was close enough to the end that they waited for me to reach the bank.I'm giving this a FP because it did attempt me to conquer my fear of bridges. I'm still going to avoid them as much as possible!
Our first cache of the day on crispy clear day begging for us to go on a river walk. Tftc
Thanks for your amazing cache catertonic. I really appreciate the time you took to set up and maintain your caches. Found with Fisha1288 An easy find. Earns a Favourite from me. Cheers, Cympull.
11 April 2024. Have done a maintenance run of most of my caches on the TRT, removing full log sheets and replacing with new write-in-the-rain plastic 'paper' ones. All good to go here.
Easter at Turangi with rattll and Watcache. After a couple of cooler days, the clear warm weather today is most welcome. Parked nearby, then a short walk to GZ for an easy find. All well in the container. Signed, and returned as found. Tftc!
Busy place, but stealthily logged and stowed. Nice spot along this beautiful river. Paper almost fill
Turangi was our chosen destination for Easter this year and despite the weather forecast the cycle trails and local event were on the to do list.ROS headed off this morning to pick up a few caches that we did not get yesterday. In contrast to yesterday the only muggles around were trout fishermen so this made for a quick find. TFTC.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit & doing the things that we want to do we are staying at the NZMCA Park in Turangi decided we would get the bikes out of the back of the Ute & go for a ride around the Tongariro River Trail, a walking & cycling trail that goes up one side of the river & back down the other side we had a couple of Adventure Labs to complete and, of course, do some caching while out and about this was an easy find, log signed & cache container easily replaced pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,871 for us!
Such a beautiful area. We stopped off here on a family holiday, none of us had been here before. We did spy some trout from the bridge and down in the river. A lovely place for a swim too. The cache was a nice quick find, TFTC
Currently staying in turangi and mountain biking and bush walking and geocaching. This morning we biked along the Tongariro trail and picked up some caches along the way. Took a few minutes to find this one as I was looking in the wrong place at first, but then the penny dropped. TFTC
First ever Geocache find for our family...added some fun to our weekend away with friends. Bike ride along river. Cheers
A nice find... after I looked up what the hint was referring to . Log a little damp, may need to be in a ziplock bag. TFTC!
Damn, didn’t have a pen so not sure how legal it is for me to log it (newbie error, re no pen!). Will anyway.
Headed down to Taupo for a long weekend to attend the Possum Night Trail run on Saturday. Left Auckland early on Friday, getting stuck in the traffic on the way to Fielddays at Mystery Creek. Soon left the State Highway to travel down to Turangi.
On Friday I decided to complete the Tongariro River Trail. I completed the 14.75km circular route in 4 hours of caching. I parked on SH1 near the bridge into Turangi and headed up the steep route to start the walk.
Quickly located when in the right spot.

S39° Reboot mission: this was a must have towards the GC5F0YP 39° South Latitude Challenge (Manawatu) on a road trip planned for last weekend, but those plans were unexpectedly scuppered. But when life hands you a lemon… plan another road trip. So up to Napier via Taupō today to collect some more minutes towards that — only 4 left now, and GC5HXCV New Zealand in 400 minutes challenge (Manawatu). Cool bridge. Noticed the tell after a short wander. Thanks CartertoniC!
The plan was to go for a walk along the river trail this afternoon. After lunch at the carpark I headed over the bridge. The rain started at the same time I began walking. Do I change my plans nah. I got pretty wet, but still enjoyed the walk. No problems here thanks to the hint. TFTC
I decided to walk the loop track between the two swing bridges on the Tongariro River. Up the Eastern side side and down the Western. There was an AdLab cache, with a bonus, and several Trads. The full loop took me about 4.5 hours and was 11km long. I found 5 AdLab locations and 15 Trads in total. Not a bad haul.
Note to self; Should read hints fully
Cheers for the cache, cartertonic.

We have been staying in the vicinity for a week, waiting for the right weather for a bike ride to clean up some of the new caches since we were here last. This was a great start. Cache is all good. TFTC
This was the southernmost cache find of today's trek. The helpful hint made for a quick and easy find. We have already achieved a good number of finds with the promise of more to come as we make our way back to our accommodation.
I doubled back across the river here before heading back to the NZMCA park while out on my bike doing the river circuit this afternoon. Great place for a cache, and two lab way points here as well, TFTC
This is oddly a cache I have actually visited a few times and each time remembered when I got there that I had already found it and forgot to log it. It's like a mental block. In fact this time I went and found it with jagersmum having actually thought I had logged it. But I just found I had not, so I'm finally logging it now! TFTC!!!
Found this with FMZ while we were exploring around Turangi and finding some caches and ad labs. TYFTC
Found during my return trip to Wellington after spending the previous few weeks up in the sunny Bay of Plenty.
When me and my family used to regularly travel together this way, this is a spot my dad would often stop at to take a break from driving and go for a small walk over the bridge to try and look for trout. I am very familiar with this bridge and knew exactly where to stop while heading south.
I parked my vehicle in the carpark and began the small walk down the hill to the bridge. The track is in worse condition than I remembered it, but it was still relatively easy. Stopped on the swing bridge to look down into the river below. The water was clear and I could see down fairly deeply, but unfortunately didn't see any fish. I walked to the other side of this bridge and down to GZ. I looked down at my phone to read the clue, then looked up and immediately spotted the cache. It was very exposed and the container stood out very well in contrast to its natural surroundings. I signed the log and placed it back where I found it. I spent another minute scanning the ground, trying to find fallen sticks and bark- just something I could place over top of the cache to try and help provide it with more camo. I found a few bits of bark and covered the cache, it is now hidden from view of the casual muggle in the same location I found it. I then returned to my car to continue my drive to Wellington.
Thanks for this cache placement and for bringing me back here.

Good find here whilst walking 13km track around the river
Over from Australia for a couple weeks and picking up some NZ caches, lots of new opportunities

Parked up at the side of the bridge and headed across for this, and a few other options whilst I run the time down until Liv gets here. I missed this one last time whilst doing an Ad Lab stage, all good here today for an easy find. I then set off on a 4.5km round trip along the riverbanks, nice.
Day 1 was getting there and catching up so left at a decent time across the Desert Road in pouring rain and wind-chill assisted chills. Managed a few finds before Liv turned up, then an easy orientation time for the first afternoon/evening.
A 3 day trip to Turangi is the plan for the weekend, but the weather is not looking likely to be all that favorable with lots of rain forecast. My youngest daughter is driving down for the weekend from Auckland to hang with Dad, so looking forward to that as I haven't seen here for a little while now. We stayed in the work's bach for the weekend and that was all good with sound amenities and a nice amount of caches were located. Also managed a soak in the Tokaanu hot pools, finished off 4 different Lab Cache series, and a couple of Geotour caches too. Thanks to all COs for their caches this weekend.

Bit of a wobbly walk across the bridge, but with the help of good clues, we mastered the journey. Great views
Been in Turangi area for two nights, time for a bike along river to find some caches before heading home to Palmerston North. Thanks CartertoniC for the cache.
Spending a week in Taupo, so a good excuse to pick a few caches along the way.

Nice quick find as I set off on a walk in the drizzle. Not done this bit before for some reason so happy to fill in the gap.
Found by Blenheim Bear on a wee day out doing bridge work in Turangi, did the adventure lab and then checked for a trad and here we are. Thanks for the cache all good today. Blenheim Bear
I'm on a trip with my Mum and two youngest children. We're doing a quick tour of the North Island. We walked around the rim of the Waihi gold mine and stayed in Tauranga the first night. Stayed at Lottin Point then we headed to Gisborne before driving down to Napier. Turangi was our destination today before heading to our old stomping ground Palmerston North. We're then off to Whanganui, New Plymouth, then Taumaranui via the Forgotten Highway. A quick dash down to the Raurumu spiral before going up to Waitomo Caves. Back to Auckland for a few days with family, the long awaited 2020/2022 Mega then home to Whangarei.
I was hoping to get enough of the first TMGT caches to complete the Tauranga, Gisborne and Taranaki areas. In the end I failed on all counts. A great disappointment to get all the way out to the East Cape lighthouse to find the track closed the other day too.
This is obviously bridge day. We did the Adlab at the Major Jones bridge and then drove here for a 2 minute walk. Another neat bridge to see. I liked looking at the D-Lock structures holding the suspension wires too. A good clue led to a quick find. Thanks for your hide along this nice river track

One of 10 (traditional) caches found whilst biking the river loop in an endeavour to complete the “Fishing the Tongariro” Ad Lab quest. Pleased that this one was a quick find. #4444. TFTC.
Staying in Tūrangi for the night before setting off to walk the Tongariro Northern Circuit. Having checked in to my accommodation there was plenty of time for a loop around the river walk and to pick off some caches on the way.
My furthest point on the track and I’m now heading back up the true right of the river.
A couple of AdLab waypoints here too and a quick find to match.
Thanks CartertoniC

#911 attempting the TRT as a tentative beginner. Easily found once the wall was located! TFTC
Staying in Turangi for the night on our way south. Headed off early on the bike to explore the riverside trails. Great to be on two wheels in such stunning surroundings and finding caches as a bonus. Thanks cartertonic for setting this series. Loved the detailed hints. Happy to give a favourite. Cache and log all fine. Thanks for the smiley.
Part of our trip along the river trail on our ebikes. This area was very familiar, as in a previous life we used to camp here occasionally. The cache took quite a while to find, which was my own fault, as I didn't take the clue quite as literally as I should have. TFTC.
A nice quick find thanks.
Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. It was a great weather most of today, well not wet and not windy! We were based around Turangi and mixed up the day with a bit af walking, biking and driving.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Initially not looking good until geowife spotted the wall then was a nice quick find. Got some nice pics here.
Ok sorry for a repeat post. But I had a great afternoon biking 10k of this trail with the 2 little whiches, got to love our pre teens hahaha Thank goodness for geocaching it's the only thing that motivates them to keep going so thanks for the cache.
This one was very wet but still able to write on it in pencil.

March has been such a busy month, but not so much with getting out and about to indulge in finding some caches for myself. So what better way to remedy this than have a few days away in an area not previously cached out?
Cue a weekend of touring around the Tongariro National Park in good company. Exactly what I needed, and a weekend that would see me find over a hundred caches, including getting my 4000th, as well as grabbing some of the new PWGT caches.
I had stopped this way last year to get an Adventure Lab cache here, so I'm really not sure why I failed to spot that this cache was also here. But no matter, it was a nice and quick find at GZ, and encountering no issues with the container or the contents, the log was quickly signed and the whole thing replaced exactly as found.
Thanks for setting up and maintaining this cache, and sorry for the late logging.

A quick stop on the way down from the plateau to grab another section of the Turangi Adventure Lab and this traditional. Made our way across the swing-bridge (accidentally setting up a resonant vibration) and got to GZ for the AL. Disaster! No signal. Oh, well. Let's try the traditional. Ooops. No signal and it's not in a downloaded list. Only 2m away though, so the search commenced. As I moved down towards the bank, I got a flicker. Out onto the bridge, desperately searching for a signal. Got the traditional downloaded and, with the hint, made short work of it. Then did the wiggle-dance to tick off the AL. Altogether a fun cache. TFTC.
Kauriforest and I somehow missed this one yesterday while on the bikes but it was a quick drive from the trout hatchery to retrieve it and set things right. TFTC
Found with gpetone during a bike ride along the river. Visited the trout centre before heading back to Turangi. TFTC
