This water tower is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at Sawyer, the former K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base which operated from 1957-1995. The base is now in the process of redevelopment with housing being sold to families and businesses taking over many of the other buildings.
Water Tower of Gimmiz, 33 m heigh, 600m3 - Water for the City of Biel in Switzerland (pop. 50'000).

I have lived in Tulsa for 7 years and had been down this street at least a couple of times a week. Because of locationless caches, I am more observant and was stopped at a red light, looked over and saw this water tower. What is unusual is that it is in the middle of town in the middle of a subdivision. The small field it is in is surrounded by houses.
Located on the grounds of the Longfellow Municipal Center, 8 Central Street, Millville, MA, is a rubble stone structure with marker stone engraved Udor Tower.
Although this is not for town water supply, the Udor Tower was used as a private water reservoir. The stone structure has a wooden cistern at the top and early 1888 birdseye view map drawing of the village shows that it had a roof and was connected to an elaborate house built and owned at the time by Charles Fletcher. It is believed the tower dates to the early or mid 19th century and thought that it collected rain water which was gravity fed on demand to the house. The Millville Central Street District is on the National Register of Historic Places and the tower is a listed artifact.

Find #276. Here's the cool looking water tower at the Freehold Raceway Mall in Freehold Township, NJ (USA). I can remember living aroung here when this was just racetrack land, and no mall existed!
So, the Post Office yells at me all the time because they say I live in Buffalo, NY, and I don't use that as my return address. So I say, Hey! The big blue tower on THE END OF MY STREET says I DON'T live in Buffalo!!!!!
Sorry this guy isn't fancy like others! Happily, the first leg for one of my caches is almost underneath it!

Found this plain jane water tower in the Town of Van Buren, NY. Got within 200 feet to get the close shot.
This rickety relic is at an Apple Orchid near Heywood Reservoir in Sterling, MA. Check out nearby caches GCR6MD and GCNNWQ.

This very close to the picturesque of Havering-Atte-Bower, where some oringinal stocks and whipping post can be seen. Glad I wasn't alive in those days.
This is the water tower for Minden, Louisiana. For most of my childhood, it was just a silver tower with graffiti courtesy of the Class of 1983 of Minden High School, which said "Roll Tide Roll!" and "Class of 83". Sometime after I graduated high school in 1997, the city finally got around to repainting it in the school colors of it's only remaining public high school - Minden High. The water tower is where all the parades start and end.
(The picture of me holding the GPS at the tower didn't come out, so I will be taking another picture on my way out of town and updating it tomorrow.)

This is a water tower at McClellan Park which is the community on McClellan Airforce Base in Northern California.
Our town has been blessed with 3 water towers, unfortunately the oldest and most unique was a concrete monster. It was replaced a couple of years ago with a new state of the art plain Jane.
For this log I'm using one of the remaining towers, my wife plans to claim the new one. The towers are located in Galesburg IL.
It is truly a shame that these location-less caches will be removed from the web site They offered a great change of pace from the every day cache hunt.

This an oldie but goodie in Ransom, Illinois. Obviously, it has not been used in a LONG, LONG time, however, it is on the National Register of Historic Places so it will be left to fall on it's own. Hope I am not driving nearby when it decides to topple off the brick base.....
Found in my city it's old and it seems that no maintenance is made on it!

This Water Tower is in Hanover PA.It's quite plain except it is doing double duty.Water tower and also Cell phone tower.TFTC and Fun.
On the way to a TB drop, had to stop and log this. South Salt Lake is a suburb of Salt Lake City, and this tower is in the "industrial" side of the town. Not the prettiest tower around, is it?
A fairly uninteresting water tower in Maumee, Ohio. Logged on an unseasonably cold December day. TFTC
The University of Texas Medical Branch water tower on Galveston Island Texas. A pretty big one since the hospital is not only a teaching hospital but is so large it has it's own Zip Code!
A very clumsy watertower in Leer, Eastern Frisia, Northwest Germany.
The tower was build in 1928 and in the early years there was a youth hostel in it too. Now he is out of order. In this tower a lokal amateur-radio-club is present. The antennas are in 65 meter (213 ft) height.
Other practical applications are cell phone antennas from the “Deutsche Telecom†and advertising for further companies and promotion to the City of Leer.
Thanks for this nice locationless cache by this theme.

It's close to our house.

Visible easily from Interstate 81 S. less than half a mile north of the Mason Dixon line, this tower was plain Jane until shortly after 9/11 when it took on its patriotic colors and became an object of conversation for several weeks. Can't believe the avid local cachers left this one for me. #96
This is the water tower (cell phone antenna holder) of the former Coombs Tannery in Napa CA - right on the Napa river
Here's my tower... closest to where I live. I sprots the Local high school's mascot...the Keller Indians. This one is located here in Keller, TX.
My hometown's water tower is plain jane, but the sight of it to me after 24 years absence stirred me like no other. This is one of the water towers in Orange, TX. TFTH!!!

This water tower is located in the community of Gerlach, Nevada. The town and water tower were constructed 1905-1909 to service the Western Pacific Railway. Gerlach is now best known as nearest town to the Burning Man Ceremony, a huge festival held each year in the playa of the Black Rock desert, just north of town. The tower is now the centerpiece of Tower Park, a small picnic area adjacent to the railway yards.
This is the Grand Ledge water tower in Grand Ledge MI. I couldn't get that close so its from a ways away. Grand Ledge is about 10 minutes from my school in Lansing and I go there often to walk around and what not. Its a cute little town.

Here's a real plain-jane. Hoping that the powers that be in Bartow, FL - USA will see this online and decide to give it a spiffing up.
This is not my local water tower but is is in my state, mine was already logged. This one is in Suffolk,VA.
This is our watertower, perched on a granite hill in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga province, South Africe. It has a unique geometric shape - a dodecahedron, which has twelve equal side, each in the shape of a pentagon. It was built to commemorate South Africa's "Water Year" in 1970. At the time, we nicknamed it the "dodo" because we thought that it was a waste of taxpayers' money. Now, 35 years later, that is long forgotten - it has proved itself as functional, and we are proud of our unique landmark.
'Plain Jane' water tower in the village of Offley, near Luton (Beds, England) on the A505. This is located at a high point for the area, thus its use has been doubled up as a radio mast.
This is the Chesapeake city water tower in Chesapeake, VA (USA). It's not the prettiest but certainly not the ugliest, I guess we went plain jane on this one.
This one is for a very exclusive spa in Boyes Hot Springs in the Sonoma Valley in N. Cal - is if pretty? or is it just functional?
The local water tower in Orminge, Sweden.
Nice to look at the water towers world wide!

This water tower in southern Maryland definitely fits the bill of a plain tower. Actually kids have marked it up a bit and I have been told that it will be torn down some time soon.

This plain jane water tower is in Shirly Mass, (not Shirly Jones or Shirly Temple although there is a Temple Mass). It's kind of right on the border with Lancaster.
There are no geocaches very near here since:
1. On one side there is a very large active gravel/sand pit.
2. On the other side is a closed down small General Aviation airport.
3. There also is a maximum security prison kind of just beyond the airport.
4. There is a Shaker burial ground near the prison, yes there is only 1 grave stone.
5. But most importantly there is the potential for a lot of unexploded military ordinance in the Fort Devens firing range. A few years ago an lucky kid unfortunately accidently blew up his school locker with a morter or something. I don't think anyone was injured though.
This water tower is also very near where I go to do some deep sky astronomical observing. It was here last fall when my girlfriend and I were dancing naked when the Red Sox finally won the World Series during the total lunar eclipse. It actually was kind of cold that night so we only danced for ceremonial purposes for 1 minute.

This tower is located in the railroad yard in Ely, Nevada (pop. appox.4000). some may recognize this area from the movie "Rat Race" the town in "New Mexico" was actualy Ely, Nv and much of the filming was done in front of this RR yard and this tower. the tower in the movie was painted with the fake town's name as you can see they removed the paint and restored the tower to all of its original glory. if you are interested in the history of this location and its trains keep reading and also check out GC49c7 and find my log entry.
The Last Bonanza Railroad
Nevada Northern Railway Company
1905-1983
Ely was named in honor of Smith Ely, president of the Selby Copper Mining & Smelting Co.; which was founded on the site of the present Ely's City Hall in 1878. By 1902 extensive copper deposits were found in the area. Mark Requa, son of a wealthy Comstock silver magnate, owned the Eureka & Palisade Railroad, a narrow gauge in Eureka. Requa was interested in bolstering the sagging economy of the E&P and explored the local copper properties at Ely. He organized the White Pine Copper Company - constructing a route that would require 140 miles of track construction. In 1904 White Pine Copper Co. merged into other mining properties and organized as the Nevada Consolidated Copper Co. ( NCCCo)
1905-1906 - Construction at Cobre began and tracks reached Ely and a gala "Railroad Days" celebration took place. The branch line was completed from McGill Junction to McGill.
1907-1908 - Construction of the McGill smelter began. NN tracks reached Lane City, Keystone mining district, Veteran Mine and Kimberly. Passenger & express service begins to McGill. The Hiline is completed.
1920 - Regular Pullman passenger service discontinued.
1938 - Local passenger and express trains discontinued.
1948 - Dieselization of ore trains begins and most Kennecott ( successor to NCCCo. ) steam engines retired.
1978 - Ruth district mines are closed & ore trains to McGill are discontinued.
1983 - Last NNRy freight operated in East Ely to Cobre.
In 1983, the White Pine Historical Railroad Foundation was organized to receive, administer, and develop an operating railroad museum. Kennecott made substantial donations consisting of: over 32 miles of track, East Ely Complex of machine shops, roundhouse, yards, and rolling stock as well as the McGill Depot.
In September of 1986, Engine #40 was steamed up for the first time since 1964 and pronounced to be in perfect mechanical condition. A new era thus was born as the newly dubbed "Ghost Train of Old Ely" began chugging along once familiar rails to thrill generations. Here is your invitation to come to Ely and experience the nostalgia of an era gone by.

I would say this is a pituresque one. I was surprised that this one was not loged yet. It's situated near the most congested highway in europe.

This is Eureka, CA's new "plain Jane" water tower, which was completed earlier this year. The old tower (which was logged by ncflyers in 2002 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=4c725110-a30b-4184-8703-c76fb1cf28d1 ) was removed about a month ago. I missed the removal of the old tank, but did get some pictures of the tower being disassembled.
This water tower stands near the new Cabela's In The Highlands in Ohio County. ..about ten miles east of Wheeling,West Virginia. It is just over a year old.TFTC

This water tower is located near my home just North of Prattville, Alabama, USA. Our community is called Posey's Crossroads.
Yup, it is a water tower and not really exciting either, but figured i would log one that was close to a cool place. Nope, this place is no longer cool but visit Monteagle Tennessee if you dare!

This tower is located in Brentwood CA (N. Cal - not the one OJ made famous)and would be classified as a plain jane tower. It seems to double as a cell phone antenna farm.
Aurora, OR. This is the plain jane tower that sits above our town. At it's base is the former town jail.
Water Towers in Peekskill N.Y. Set at the high point in the city feeding the building below. Not as old but work the same. Thanks for the cache.

I found this one in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada but it does not deserve the town but a company named Sylvania.
Not sure what you would classify this ... probably a 'Plain Jane'. It is typical of water towers in the older just outside Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
In fact, there are many of these within the immediate area that are identical to this one which is located in the Pine Rivers Shire (Kallangur). About 20 kms or so to Brisbane's north.
It seems that it has become fashionable for the local councils to decorate the towers with the town or shire name even the odd bit of advertising !!!

There is absolutly nothing picturesque about this tower, or the photo as a matter of fact!

This one is a little different. It is located in Covington County, Alabama. You can't read the name on the tower, but it is River Falls.
This water tower is located in Lancaster, NY. Snapped this pic while doing some maintenance on my cache in the area.
Licking County, Heath, OH
Came upon this while doing the locationless Warbirds. It's at the Central Ohio Aerospace & Technology Center which used to be the Newark Air Force Base.

I found this one by chance in the City of Norwalk, California (Los Angeles County). Even better - it's not previously logged!! Notice the contrast to the OTHER City of Norwalk's (Ohio) snowbound water tower - someone else's earlier log.
At the sight of "There's George...He's Flying a Kite" cache in Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ: a shot of the water tower on Ellis Island.
This is one of the few remaining water towers that serviced the old steam engines on the LA to SLC line. I can remember that men lived and worked here as the old Highway 91 ran right next to this depot. The GPS pic seems far away, but it is there.
Water tower in the tiny town of Lynn Indiana. This one is a bit plain jane but I like this style of tower.
I found this Water Tower in Wülfrath / Germany / NRW. The Name of the Street, is the Name of the Tower.
Bettendorf, Iowa. Plain as can be. Took two coordinates and triangulated to underneath the tower. You can't get there legally!
