With another leap day upon us we had done lots of different caches types and sizes last leap day so this year I decided to attend lots of events and to also help me build up my CITO count. A lot of driving today but the weather was great and managed to get to all 7 events in the day that I planned to.
After the events on the way home there was suddenly road works so we got off the exit and took these nice back roads for a little while.
Nice quick find her today but it didn't smell too good ... didn't bother looking for the dead animal.
Thanks strange quark1 for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

Spiffy- had many plans for leap day and attending as many events as possible was the key plan. His dedication saw him attend 7 events in 1 day.
Happy to make a quick find here with all the Hay bails close by.

TFTC. We had attended the Ballan Birthday Bash and were making our way home to Maryborough. We had planned our route via the back road to find as many of the caches along the way as possible.

Family New Years Adventure #5
Had to get the family out of the house for a bit... too many computers and inactivity over the last few days.
Now, there was a warning about copperheads in the notes. This caused considerable consternation amongst the troops. The guy with no shoes was sent forward, I think on the understanding that he'd soak up all the venom so there'd be none left for other victims. Saw no copperheads, but there were numerous tiger-striped creatures amongst the rocks (garden snails). Cache found and signed without envenomations, maulings or falls from the tops of rocks.
Thanks heaps, strange quark!

A dead end lane that just had to be traversed, so I could grab a smiley, Thanks. strange quark1, all is in good order here today
Today we found Country Roads, take me....where? on our travels. Having read the comment about copperheads we approached gz with caution just in case there was a enthusiastically active cache guardian on this delightfully warm day. Happy to report we found the cache unscathed.

Found It......On our way home we decided to grab a couple of caches. After making our way to GZ we had to be mindful of the railway workers installing new signals but a quick search soon had the container in our hands and with the log signed we continued our journey homeward. Thanks Team strange quark1 for bringing us here
On my way to Goolwa SA for a 7 Day Fishing trip with my brothers, decided to come a day earlier so I could do some caching of opposite side of city as I from Warragul. Sl thanks for the cache
Country Roads took me to my third cache for the day! Despite the warm weather I saw no snakes, but I was very careful poking around for the cache! Typically, it was in the first place I looked but I didn't spot it until the third time I looked there

I love little dead end country lanes and this was one of the best I’ve been along. Idyllic green grass, well fed cattle and huge bales of hay stored on the roadside to save space for the farmers. The hint led me to a likely spot, but of course I circumnavigated a feature before zoning in on the correct location of the cache. Luckily I didn’t find any Big Wrigglers while searching or retrieving the cache. I have seen Copperheads active even in the depths of winter. Thanks for a great. Cache.
TFTC nice find. Lovely area. Rode on my bike. Have wet feet from grabbing some other caches along the way.
After catching up with Claybol, Virbull and jtnsilo to finish off a nearby mystery cache, i headed east to find a few caches in the countryside while the Autumn weather was sunny and mild.
What a picturesque little area i found your cache in here, thoroughly deserving of more finds. Great views of the district. Glad to relieve this one of the unlove it had. Tftc cigc.

Grass quite high in the middle of the country road - glad we had a 4WD! Cache took a short while to locate due to it being well hidden - plenty of hay bales and rocks at the end of the road. No snakes seen today. Some lovely big old gum trees, too. Nice quiet country area so we had our picnic lunch watching the many butterflies that were about here.

While on my tour around Ballarat finding various cache and also looking for large listed caches before heading off on the next adventure, a paddle around Pykes Creek Reservoir, this cache was found.
I made a bit of a detour down to this one, I fought my way through the very long grass and did a bit of rock hopping but it wasn't until I grabbed a big stick to use as a tool to move the grass and poke around that the cache was found.
**Thanks to strange quark1 for placing this cache.**

I first looked at this one in summer and thought .....naaaaa don't like the! Found this today and did a happy dance. TFTC
Spent most of the day on back roads and dirt tracks turning green boxes into smiles. Where does this road go, it needs a bridge. At first my GPSr had me at the large hay bales, thankfully not there as it turns out. But it did feel like a needle in a hay stack as it was only discoverable with touch. Glad I found that first and nothing else.

Today I headed to Ballarat to attend the Yarrowee River CITO, with the expectation to do some caching afterwards. After the CITO I headed to try to finish the Symbol Series, then cached my way towards home. Nice quick find.

Following my close encounter with a big spider at Total Span cache, I made certain I was wearing work gloves. Since I'd been warned about nasty slithery beasties in this area I wacked the rocks a few times before starting to grope.
Quick find, signed the log and now off to the next cache.

As a general rule I am not so keen on caches hidden in or near school grounds (parents and teachers worry about strangers prowling around).
However after reading the interesting description of this 100 year old school - now a Community Centre - I decided to have a look.
It took me a while to find the box. At one stage I started climbing trees.... then realised that terrain 1.5 was NOT half way up a tree
The hint was very useful.
There was 2 cm of water in the container, which I emptied out. The log book is damp however if you press lightly it is still possible to sign the book.
I tightened the lid firmly.

Found it retrieved it signed it and replaced it after a short search
Thanks strange quark FTC. The gz at the moment is covered in long grass lucky I didn't
see any wriggly sticks but I dare say that some were watching.

An early morning stroll from the old school; now a great community centre, where we are camping for the weekend. The Geodogs enjoyed exploring and found a ring tail possum tail they wanted to take back to camp. Thanks for the personal touches to your description. TFTC
Cache is good and dry and the train zoomed past while we were logging in the rain. Hello cows. Too bad this little town doesn't have a store or a pub, or maybe we just haven't got to it yet.
A very quiet out of the way spot! Was quite expecting someone's home to be overlooking this cache! TFTC

A quick find while we were making our way to Melbourne today to catch the boat home via back roads, caching as we go. Picked up the TB to further it's journey. TFTC
What a beautiful peaceful spot! We immediately figured out the likely spot but after some poking and prodding with a (very) long stick with no luck, and quite concerned about the warning of Copperheads we checked the clue to make sure our instincts were correct. They were indeed so more poking and prodding and we soon had the cache in hand. Great clue by the way!
We liked the desiccant sachet in the log bag, great idea.
TN, left a rooster & TB "Molly".

A quick and easy find as we wend our way to Ballarat, caching as we go. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks for the cache.
This was our 4th find for the day, the geokid discovered this one on her own. Even got a wave off another farmer making his rounds on a 4 wheeler as we were leaving.
TFTC. Heading back to Ballarat after a shopping trip and called past to grab a few smilies.
Another quick and easy find. Found the cache at total span and while driving here a train went past.
Found as geokid and I decide to explore some of this area, I am sure I am not the only one who has found themselves singing the John Denver song as we drove to this one, lol, Geokid made the find, and was very pleased with himself, Thanks for bringing us to this area. TFTC

We came through here last summer on a hot day and as the grass was fairly tall, the possibility that some slinky predator might be lurking in there meant that we left this one for another day. Today was cool (about 8 degrees) and the area had been cleared so we found it in the first spot we looked. Found with Tagalong Wife.

Find 02 of 08 for the day and #1861 in total.
Not a tricky cache to find but with all the rain recently getting to the cache through the mud raised the difficulty factor.
Wonder what the farmer thinks?

Nice quick easy find. I'd exercise caution on the warmer days! Possible snake area.
Found on a long weekend in June when we traveled from Bendigo to Melbourne for a Birthday Party, stayed the night in a Budget Hotel in St Kilda - then onto Ballarat to see the Earthcache apprentice at FU and then home to Bendigo. We only had the time for a few caches today but we took a detour to collect the 3 caches in Millbrook. Great spot for the gunzels.

This cache was on my list of must do's today on my way to the two Ballarat events on this cold and wet day.
From memory I have not been along this road before but it was a pleasant drive through here.
I could see that somebody had driven into this dead end lane but as yet no log. In hindsight I should have read the CN's and the hint as it would have saved me a lot of time and getting wetter in the long grass, but eventually I spotted the search area and then it all made sense.

After some high stepping with my snake killing stick, I was able to locate this cache. Was very pleased to get this one quickly, just as I was leaving fellow cachers arrived, hope they had luck with this and no copperhead snakes! Thanks.
As we pulled up there was a car parked at GZ, and we hopped out to the greeting of 'are you doing what I'm doing?'. It was great to meet Motndarg who had just replaced the cache. A quick find, but I'm glad I wasn't doing it on a stinking hot day! It is a peaceful spot, however I'm sure the train whizzing through would break the serenity. Thanks for bringing us here.

There can be no better reason to venture out on a Sunday, than the announcement of a triple celebration of geo-birthdays, in Ballan.
After the candles were blown out we were able to track down a smilie or two, on the way home.

Decided to collect a few in this area as a bit of a break on the trip home to Adelaide from Melbourne. A great out of the way place for a cache with plenty of parking and an easy place to turn around. Given the warning about snakes we used a handy stick to assist with retrieving the cache. TFTC
The clue helped, this was our second find. Great fun finding stuff in our own backyard!
Took me forever to find this. Not sure why, as it was where it should have been. The long grass and warm weather, along with the warning of snakes, was freaking me out a bit.
After I left here there was a couple of old farmers on the road giving me the eye. I reckon that they must have noticed that I was parked at the end of the lane and wondered what the hell I was up to.
Thanks for bringing me here.

After reading your notes about the copperheads I was hoping for some freshly mown grass around GZ. But I was out of luck. With grass up to my waist, the approach in was very slow indeed. My favourite stick was responsible for the retrieval. TFTC strange quark1.
After reading the cache name, I found myself singing the words of John Denvers Country Road enroute to GZ, and then after reading the hint, I found myself singing "that" song (wont give it away by mentioning a spoiler - LOL). I don't sing very often (its pretty awful when I sing) and generally only to a song that's playing, so I must've been in a wonderfully happy frame of mind today The grass was extremely long at GZ, and the recent warm weather had me on the lookout for the things mentioned in the description, and thumping my ski pole into the ground the whole time I was here. Cache was quickly located, signed and replaced. Thanks to strange quark1 for the cache.
It was interesting to read about the profusion of local copperheads and then find you have hidden the cache in a prime habitat. Oh well at least I was warned and following some stick prodding in likely hidey holes the cache was soon found
