What an incredible place Early morning start from Mildura and off to take a tour of the lunette with a guide. We were lucky to have a beautiful breeze this morning and the temps were not too high. TFTEC a FP from us.

I first heard of Mungo National Park 22 years ago and have wanted to visit ever since. Finally, I had an opportunity, although the weather was not cooperative. Rain, wind, flies, and a heavy, dark, overcast sky dampened my spirits. At WP2 a family of gorgeous pink cockatoos flew in. They spent about half an hour demolishing some paddy melons. There was a late weather change forecast, so I waited 5hrs. It was late, and was not going to arrive until sunset. I wanted to see the much more dramatic Red Top section of the lunette at sunset, if the cloud bank moved enough for the sun to shine across the land. After completing the Earthcache questions I caught a magical sunset.TFTEC!

On a big adventure from Canberra to Esperance and back to celebrate a year of good things (Happy Birthday Krispystrips). Today was day 3 of our journey and we detoured out to Lake Mungo on our way from Balranald to Lake Pamammaroo. I have been lucky enough to visit out here before, but only for a blink of an eye, so great to be able to be back soaking up the incredible history and geology. Mungo put on a great show for us today. Stunning weather, and visits from Emu, Lizards, Kangaroo, Welcome Swallows and a giant grounded Wedge Tail Eagle resting on a rock. Man those birds are big! Found with Porkchop72, Krispystrips and GLISS! This will definitely not be my last visit to the region. Thanks for the cache.

Answers sent to CO and confirmed. I visited this Earthcache with Nibletricecakes Porkchop72 and Krispystrips on our Road to Esperance trip. Thanks for placing an EC here to highlight the area.

We are spending a wonderful few days exploring the magical Mungo National Park. After completing the Zanci pastoral walk this morning, we ventured out to the Walls of China and completed this earthcache. What a spectacular location! Many thanks for the bonus cache out here. Tftc

My apologies for my late log; I had forgotten about it while away. I'm glad I went to Mungo National Park because I had read about it. It was a perfect day for us. Permission to log by CO. FP from me. Thank you, matmob for bringing me there.

What a fabulous place and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the features during a tour that allowed you behind the fence and up with the formations. Lots of interesting geological features. Thanks for the interesting EC.

We continued today our tour in NewSouthWales, AUS, and thereby searched, found and logged this interesting Earth-Cache.

The weather was - said in one word – simply best. The good hidden caches and the being on holidays kept us the whole day in a good mood.

The cache had good coordinates, and thus was easy to find. The answers were sent.

Thanks to matmob for the generation of this nice cache Mungo (with the proper agenda), for leading us here and for showing us this funny location as well as the ongoing maintenance of this cache.

For the location and good questions we give a fav.

PS: Please forgive us the uniform log which is needed due to timing problems - if necessary special actions and happenings are there described where they appeared.

Greetings from Germany together with the hope to meet somewhere like event or wood.

Veni. Vidi. Vici.
Staying in Coomealla for a few nights and decided to visit Mungo, so today, I headed off for a day trip. Bounces our way over 86km of dirt roads, some parts very corrugated other parts quite good. Finally, we reached the visitor centre and paid our dues, and headed to the wall. Parked where we could, read the info signs, and went for a wander. Reached the viewing platform and had a look around, and gathered the required information. Headed to the next platform and gathered more info. Then wandered back to the car and headed to Red Top, which we thought was a better example of the area. All in all, an impressive area and worth the 170km of corrugated road. Got back to our accommodation and did a bit more research and then sent answers to the CO, which were approved.

I have wanted to vist Lake Mungo for a couple of years since I first saw photos of the Wall of China. I booked my accommodation in advance, and today was the first day the lodge reopened after recent road closures.

Unfortunately, the only open road in the park was to the Wall of Chine (for which I was grateful), but I missed out on all the other sights that the park has to offer. Perhaps I'll return one day.

I have sent my answers to the CO.

Thanks to matmob for creating this earthcache.

What an absolutely magical location. Been on my bucket list for a very long time. 2nd time lucky with the roads reopening, and the best sunset I have ever seen. Place is so surreal and magical, felt very special to be visiting here. God, if this doesn't get a FP I don't know what does.

I am travelling with my muggle sister who wanted this to be the highlight of our trip. We had first visited Mungo in 1971 before it was a National Park. So glad it is being protected now as it is such an incredible place. Thanks for the Earth cache matmob. Sending answers now.

This is a phenomenal place.
The history of the Indigenous people is all around, ready for you to explore and discover.
The skies are like nothing I've seen before.
Truly, come and see Mungo and see where it all began.

Cache no. 3000, yay!!!
Answers have been emailed to CO, but with no response in 24 hours I'm logging the find, but will amend it if necessary.

Mungo National Park is the highlight of a 7 week camping trip, so stark, stunning, and beautiful. It is definitely worth doing a walking tour through the lunettes, no access otherwise, and it really is magnificent.

Out for a pre-Easter road trip with the family. Not a geocaching trip but I managed to talk my wife into doing a couple of EC’s today.
The main attraction of heading on this trip was to see Lake Mungo!
The day finally arrived and we made our way up the long dirt road. We had a tour booked which took us out onto the Wall of China, and our tour guide managed to answer the questions we needed for this EC.
Loved the geological history here and learning about the long cultural practices that indigenous people have had with this land.
We heard from our guide that there’s some big news coming in the area that could be bigger than Mungo Man, but he wasn’t allowed to say any more. Something should be announced in the next couple of years.

Thanks for the EC in this awesome country! FP

We are here at the moment. Park will be shut on Tuesday 15/6/21 for an elders funeral and wet road conditions expected 16/6/21. Please check with council/Nat park/mungo lodge before proceeding.

It appears the loop road will be closed for repairs until august 21, but check yourself for an update. We still made it to the wall of China lookout and red top lookout. Wonderful part of Australia

I have been getting around to visiting Mungo National Park for a very long time. Checked the weather and booked a ticket for the Walks of China discovery with the Aboriginal Ranger.

Definitely got more value from this trip by exploring the lunette with a local historian. You can’t get what he showed and told us, from an info board. We explored the lunette and I took around a hundred pics from many angles. I think walking to the highest spot and looking over the back was also interesting

What can I say? Spectacular!!! This is a special place Wandered thru the shearer’s shed and NSW Parks visitors centre also. A couple of pics attached.

Bonus was this earthcache and I appreciate the work you put into creating it. Dropping a FAVE here

Yay. Logging with permission. What an amazing place. Wish we had done the walking tour looking at the other cachers photos. Anyway the loop road was shut we need to return so maybe next time. Many thanks for the earthcache. Photo with SeaEagle attached. Cheers

We visited Mungo with Outback GeoTours from Balranald. Very interesting day apart from the cold front passing through with very strong winds, low temps and light rain. 13° feeling like 7°. But we made the most of it and being with an official tour guide got us the opportunity to climb the dunes beyond the lookout. Walking only on the sand drifts of course. Thanks for setting up this EC. TFTC matmob. Found 4/5/21 1:45 pm. Cache 1911 for us.

We had a long, hot and dusty drive out to 'the lake' but, once we got there, we discovered a fascinating place with a fascinating history. This earth cache urged us to dig a little bit deeper and learn a bit more than we otherwise would have.
Thanks matmob for putting this earth cache here.

Lake Mungo has been on the to-do list for a few years now and we took the opportunity to detour here for visit on our way back from a few weeks in central South Australia.
Interesting landscape around the Lunette and the fossilised footprint casts in the visitor's centre were profoundly inspiring to see human footprints from so long past.
Thanks matmob

Thanks for bringing us out here.

So we took off to the north today, Mungo and beyond and back.
Mostly a great drive and scenery, but found a couple of caches along the way, logs with the team Mattycat stamp include Purrfect Di, Jack, and Sebastbat as well as teen muggle Alex.

This was the target for the day. We came, enjoyed walking to the earthcache info sites, and then took off for the self drive tour around the back of Mungo. A great trip. Then off to Pooncarie for ice creams, BUT, a closed road made a massive detour to the north, which in turn took us through more lake basins and amazing countryside! A destination must for all cachers and families! Answers investigated and sent to CO.

There's a bit of Euro-Australian history here, but 200 times as much indigenous history. Mind blowing.

Mungo was awesome. Do it folks. Everything from the shearing shed to the vast white sandhills on the other side.
Even a massive goat trap on the back road, so much to see!

Fav. Because this sort of cache is worth travelling for Big Grin

In town for a week and found this one sorry about the late log

22-Jan-20
Hands down one of the most fascinating Australian landmarks I’ve ever visited. Emus racing the cars and kangaroos hopping around the open plains, leading up to an amazing aspect. Indigenous history, the old settlement, and the dust storm on the way home made for a memorable day for the boys (nanton34, whytknight, muggle clog) and our kids.

11-Jan-20
We got lucky twice today.
The road to Mungo was awesome and the cool change was still here.

We had geopoppy with us today to keep us entertained on the trip from Mildura.
We did the full lap around and geokid played on the sandhills.
The goat trap tickled my fancy.

We had lunch at the amazing lodge and a few games of eightball before heading back home.

No signal meant a complete guess for the waypoint but we enjoyed the walls and another generation of our family got to play on the dunes.

Fav added for this amazing location with an incredible history.

I'm on a one week holiday in Mildura and booked for a tour in Mungo National Park. We were a group of 6 people + guide who had right to access to area beyond platforms. Thus I saw Wall of China and the dunes from close range (pics follow once I'll get back home). Truly amazing place Cool[^]

We Headed out to Lake Mungo from Mildura for the Earthcache day. We took lunch with us and appreciated the shaded picnic tables. Moules were organised enough to remind us to get here on the right day to collect a badge for our earthcaching efforts so thanks do go to them. We wandered over to appreciate the lunette landscape. Collecting most of the required information we made our way to the second point. It would have been a wonderous place back when the lake was filled. We survived a whirlwind on returning to the car park. Quite an adventure!

12-Oct-19
With this weekend being Earth cache weekend we decided that this one was a must do!

We headed out from Buronga with Cruisinblues to begin our Earthcache adventure.

After making the drive out we stopped and checked out the information centre and was greeted by a very friendly park ranger. We paid our car entry fee and made our way over the huge expanse that was once a full lake. Mind blowing to believe as you drive over it.

At the next car park closest to gz we set up lunch and admired the landscape. The walk to gz was great with well maintained tracks and boardwalk. We took note of the answers needed and watched people that were on a tour having a closer look at the lunettes. They looked like ants from a far. Our kids were interested in the native flowers growing.

After checking out the whole area we made our way back to the cars. We were greeted with a giant Whirly Whirly that had Mrs. 4Moule jogging to the other side of the car park with our 2.5yo on her shoulders to avoid getting caught in it.

What an adventure!! Thanks for bringing us out here. It’s a really interesting area and landscape. This is an experience that we will never forget!

A big thanks to matmob for creating this Earthcache highlighting the area.

Many years ago I purchased a very large, two volume book from Readers Digest entitled Australias Wilderness Heritage and I can still remember seeing the section about Lake Mungo but way back then I didnt think I would ever get to see it.

Fast forward many years and I discover geocaching and I soon realise that to visit some of the areas where caches are hidden I need a 4wd, kayaks, hiking gear etc etc.

So with a weekend staying in Mildura and finally having a 4wd geovehicle I could finally get out to one of the most significant cultural and natural sites in Australia, Lake Mungo.

Today family Perpetuallylost made the most of a cooler day in the district and headed out to finally explore this amazing site. We collected lots of pics to help answer the COs questions and after initially deciding we would only go as far as the lookout on top of the Lunette, we also took your advice and did the tour around the lakes. Along the way we saw so much wildlife, emus, bearded dragons and shingleback lizards, red kangaroos, Wedge-tailed eagles, galahs , and a fox.

Even on Grand Final day there were so many people around and we were surprised by how many campers there were around the lake.

So thank you matmob for making our trip out here so enjoyable by setting up this EC. It really made me make more of an effort to read all the signs around and gain a greater understanding of the formation of the area and how the Indigenous population lived here.

Definite FP and a bucket list location ticked off. Cheers

On a road trip with teamMerlin to get to a number of different council areas. The first time I came here was in the 80s with the camera club I was with. Been here with other photographers many times over the years with the changes around the places restrictions placed on where you can go. We gathered the information and teamMerlin sent in a group email.

Thanks for placing the earthcache a different time to come back no longer doing as much photography nowadays thanks for approving the log. matmob

On a short break and drive with a view of grabbing a few caches to fill in some missing New South Wales and Victorian LGAs along the way. Today was a day trip out to Mungo National Park and with that in mind we preloaded the details of this earthcache so that we could complete the needed questions offline. What a spectacular site and sight, well worth the effort to get here. Answers to the questions have been sent to the CO as a joint submission. What a truly remarkable location. An absolute highlight of our trip.

Mungo has been on my to-do list for many years and on previous visits to Mildura, time or closed roads have prevented us getting there. However, today we weren't going to miss out !

A great drive out from Mildura with the road in reasonable condition. We stopped at the info centre and paid our dues before heading out across the lake to the Walls of China lookout. Fired off a few pictures and gathered the details for later, just as a tour arrived.

After admiring the scenery a bit longer, we took off and spent the rest of the day dawdling around the 70km self-drive tour, which is totally recommended.

Then the 120km back to Mildura as the sun set and the red dirt road just glowed. Would love to have stayed out there, but the pets at our house sit may not have approved.

Visited Mungo earlier I. The week and with no phone signal had to wait a few days to share the details with the cache owner. When you stand on ground occupied for over 45,000 years, waiting another day or two is trivial! Thanks Matt for the cache, and to the many eons o. Persons who occupied and shaped this land.

This was a day trip out from Balranald with our hosts. It was good that it was cooler today, just a bit windy. On the drive around we saw many kangaroos and emus. It was a bit strange for the car's satellite navigation system to show us driving through water! Thanks for the earthcache, the age of this is a bit mind-blowing, especially that aboriginal people feature in it from such an early stage.

Found whilst doing a trip around NSW following the Murray and Darling Rivers, visiting the following places, Young, Mulwala, Barham, Wentworth, Mungo National Park, Copi Hollow, Wilcannia, Louth, Brewarrina, Warrumbungles and Tamworth, crossing over the border to visit some adjacent town on the way. Going to Copi Hollow now via Broken Hill, as the road from Pooncarie to Manindi is washed out. Beautiful land formations. TFTC matmob

My first time to Mildura and Mungo park was something I had wanted to see for some time. We took a tour bus out there and enjoyed our time walking arohnd the sand dunes and stopping at a few places along the way. Amazing to think of what this used to be. Saw plenty of wombat skeletons and other interesting objects and formations. Thanks to matmob for placing this cache.

The time we (Crig and I) were here at Mungo it was really hot. But still was magnificent. I was able to go on a scenic fly-over with Uncle Mal. I ended up with sweat dripping from my face. I guess I gave a good image, didn't i. Anyway, the park was hot, beautiful and majestic. Thanks for taking us here.

For several years we've been visiting family in Mildura, and I've kept having the Mungo signs leaping to my attention. Last week one of my brothers turned up and told me he was thinking of having a look at Mungo. Naturally I invited myself & my family to join him. Did some research, booked the shearers quarters and a tour, got some food & off we went. Day 1: "whose stupid idea was this?" - 46 degrees in a semi-desert environment. Lucky we had water, and aircon in our rooms. Waited for some of the heat to dissipate before venturing to the Walls of China to catch the last of the sunset. WOW!
Next morning we had a tour booked for 7:30. A few other cars rolled in, but no guide. We reacquainted ourselves with the use of a pay phone (no mobile reception), and started making some calls. Eventually the nearby Mungo Lodge came to our rescue and sent their guide Ernest around. He was awesome! Included a lot of indigenous culture and stories into our couple of hours together, and walking beyond the gate at the lookout up on the the Walls of China was a remarkable experience (except for the foolish girl who didn't wear a hat and collapsed in the heat just after we passed the gate - she was taken back to the visitors centre and recovered well). Ernest finished the tour with a couple of songs (and a few more stories).
After the tour we went back to Mungo Lodge for lunch in their cool facility and my brother & La Mina went for a joy flight over the walls of China while I continued to hydrate at the bar (no room in plane for me).
That evening back up to red rock Lookout for the sunset, which was even more spectacular than the view from the Walls of China Lookout. More kangaroos and emus along that road too. All up a very special experience! TFTC

logging with co permission and quick response. found it on a holiday at easter time but over looked logging the find till now, only attending the International EarthCache Day 2016 event here in Adelaide reminded me. I took the long way from Mildura to this cache and got pulled over by the police for a random breath test and defect check ( passed both ) and on to mungo national park. At the gz my gps batteries went flat and the ones I bought at the servo on route where flat also. enjoyed doing this earth cache and did the 60kms round trip. Some where on the return trip my front number plate vibrated off, so I had to do the rest of the holiday with only 1 number plate which caused problems at some servos. favourite point from me and also my favourite earth cache so far.

Yeah. And what a fantastic time we had here. Not only is the whole lake system with its fascinating geology and archeology one of the most interesting places I have visited. The desert was a sea of wild flowers which have sprung up after the recent rains

We stayed for 2 nights at the Shearers Quarters here. Highly recommended. What a great location to stay and 'get away from it all'. You can hope for a clear night to go star gazing.

We came in on the Saturday afternoon and were leaving on Monday morning with the intention of driving the 70km loop road on Sunday. All appeared to be going to plan until we got to the Red Top Tank lookout and the road was closed to prevent us from going further. We really should have checked the noticeboard at the visitor centre before heading off. We headed back to the visitor centre and bumped into the Ranger. He said that due to some rain to the north the night before he had closed the road until he got a chance to drive the circuit to check it. He was planning to head off about midday. We had heard the thunder and saw the lightening the night before, but had only got a small amount of rain at the shearers quarters.

We spent the rest of the morning visiting the Zanci station and walking part of the Pastoral Heritage Walk. After lunch we spotted the Ranger returning and he changed the sign to OPEN, so off we headed and spent the afternoon driving the loop road, including a climb up the sand dunes.

What a great area with an interesting history. I am still amused that my old Magellan GPS shows the lake beds as lakes when they haven't held water for 18,000 years !

Thanks matmob for this earth cache.

Flew over this area in 1992, and waited this long to revisit at ground level. While on holiday we made a detour over here to Mungo.
It was a first time visit here for both of us, it's such a magical place, we were lucky enough to arrive here in time to do a sunset walk amongst the Lunetts.
This earth cache helped answer a few questions we had about the area.
Thanks matmob for the earth cache and answering the few questions we had about the area.
And a well deserved favorite point headed your way.

04-Nov-15
Logging this cache with permission after three attempts to visit this area as the two previous times it rained and the roads were closed so on our way out this time the signs indicated that all roads were open.
This trip was going well until we arrived at the gate to start the 70km loop and the gate was locked so that was the end of our plans.
I am sure that we would have survived the loop as we now have a high clearance vehicle and all recovery gear but as the cache owners said we will have to return for the fourth trip.
This is an area that all cachers should visit as the scenery is magnificent and is a very interesting location.
One of the better E.C's that I have been too so thanks matmob for placing this guy and a F.P. from us.

A couple of times previously we had got to Mildura and we thought seriously of continuing on to Mungo but didn't for one reason or other. However we had to be in Bendigo recently for her school reunion so we thought we would take the Mungo Loop and go in the "back" way from Balranald. Highly recommended, the geoSube handled the unsealed roads magnificently, and gave us a great preview. The evening tour onto the wall with the park ranger was a highlight we will never forget and the 70km round trip the next day was icing on the cake. A fabulous area! This cache is worth coming to the Lake and helping to understand the historical and geological inheritance. Thanks Matmob

A great trip to Mungo and had it pretty much to ourselves as wet weather kept roads closed and people out. TFTC Smile

What an amazing place. Answers on the way to CO and I'll post a few photos here when I recover them from the camera. Thanks matmob for making me pay attention.

IT SEEMS THAT THE SIGNS AT WAYPOINT 2 ARE MISSING, SO DON'T STRESS - JUST TAKE A GUESS. WE AREN'T GOING TO DISALLOW A FIND FOR THAT Smile

What a fascinating and interesting area! We are travelling OZ for a few months before heading back to Europe, and we decided only yesterday that we would visit Mungo NP. This cache was a bonus, thanks for creating it!

Not a fan of earthcaches, nice to find one that didn't need a geology degree. Love the area, and thanks for making me read the signs.

While on a tour through the area we also collected the info for this cache. It was a cold and windy day but the area is fascinating and we enjoyed our visit. Email sent...TFTC

We were at Mungo literally 4-5 days before this cache was published!! Such a fabulous area to visit. We were lucky enough to avoid the rains and managed to get back down to Mildura without any problems. I guess that one day we'll be back in this area and able to log this as a find. We've got lots of photos to prove we were there but haven't got the answers to all the questions. Oh well, better luck next time. Great to have a cache here as an incentive for more people to visit. Thanks matmob.

We have had this cache on our watch list for about 8 weeks. This is one of the last caches within 100km from home. Friends were visiting for the balloon event in Mildura and the weather was to windy to fly so we packed a picnic and went to Mungo. Bumped into blissbaby only hours after she had completed your cache. Had a great day. TFTC.

this national park has been on my wish list to visit for a long time, but i normally reside on the gold coast! a bit far for a day trip. for the last 6 months I've been working on contract in Dubbo, still not really close but a whole day closer - I just couldn't resist. I look up the caches for the journey and discover an earth cache here, awesome. this is such a special place, i also recommend the discovery tour with an indigenous ranger to get even more from the area. I ended up staying for 3 days, panicking on the last night because the clouds were getting darker all afternoon. still this is the desert and it didn't rain more than a few spots. The timing of the rain stopped me from getting the sunset shots I was after but thats not unusual when I'm travelling.
thank you very much for enhancing my trip with an FTF!
Perfect spot for an earth cache Matmob, well done.
