Second outing for my Oru kayak and second island. A beautiful, calm day on the lake and even managed not to get (too) wet this time. Beached the kayak and made a short trek to GZ for a quick find before returning to the launch pad.TFTC TE
Day 3 of testing out the new inflatable kayak that I got for Christmas! The storms this morning crept up very much out of the blue but thankfully, they were further south of Lake Tuggeranong. Lovely paddle on the lake with picturesque hills in the background. Wind made the paddle a bit hard at times, but I think I may just be getting used to kayaking several days in a row! I parked on the island for this first ache, got my phone and then realised.......oh no, I left the pen in the car! Thankfully, Mum was watching so she went back to the car whilst I mounted the boat again and paddled to the nearest shore to meet Mum. After that, I re-parked the boat, did a little bush bashing (the park I found was on the other side of the island to GZ) and then spent a minute or so at GZ before I spotted the hide. Looks like some people have used the island for campfire hangouts! Great spot for a T5 cache, TFTC TE!
Down in cbr for christmas and decided to finally explore this island. This was a big thing for me as i grew up in tuggeranong and used to walk around the lake with mum on weekends. I always saw this island and wondered how i could get there, and what treasures i would uncover. It was mysterious and magical to my younger self. Now I'm here and it feels like I've fulfilled one of my childhood dreams haha! The birdlife here is wonderful. It's awesome to know they have an area they can go that is their own, away from pesky humans. It's cool to see others have set up a firepit. I really should come back here with some mates and camp.Anyways, thank you tankengine once again for making this adventure possible for me.
Visiting family in Canberra for a wonderful holiday, with perfect weather too. Also targeting Adventure Labs and T5s as well (I do love the adventure and the challenge in getting them).
Launched the kayak on a mirror calm Lake Tuggeranong and paddled out to the islands to get the caches.
Accurate coords here, yet it still took me a good minute to spot the well camoed cache. Fav point for the location and the adventure in getting it. Thanks Tankengine!

Came here to grab these little island caches on a lovely day so came with my Kayak and off to find and sign the log and placed back where it belong. TFTC

#3498 What a great day to be on a lake! Once we had found a suitable launch site that didn’t require getting wet, we moved between the islands for a find or two. After ‘parking’ on the wrong end of this one the remaining 80 metres of so were taken by foot. My GPS just wouldn’t settle, then DT took charge and pointed where we needed to be. Thanks TE for the paddle and cache.
Contrary to news reports I'm not dead, but I have been out of the game for a while. What better way to get back out there then to try out my new pre-Christmas Stand Up Paddle Board.
Setting out from Ngadyung Beach, it was a pleasant paddle out to the first island. I've definitely been out of the game for a while because it took me quite a while to find the cache, but once I was looking in the correct area spotted it quickly.
This was a very fun cache to get back into the swing on, and well worth a fav point.
Thanks Tankengine!

2nd last day wirh my borrowed kayak and I had Lake Tuggeranong in my sight.
I had checked the water quality and whilst swimming was prohibited because of the Blue-green Algae and bacteria levels, secondary contact - aka a boat - was allowed.
I set off from Murnung Beach and quickly
Paddled over to near the cache. Getting out of the kayak with a dickie knee is always ungainly, but I managed ok and stayed mainly dry.
Quickly found and signed the cache.

Today we had set our goals of doing paddle caches, this was one of them, We enjoyed the warm day with mirror water surfaced, we even managed to topple into the water totally getting wet.
This was a straight forward find on a little island.

Merry Christmas! Santa brought us a new TOTT that was perfect for tackling the tranquil waters of Lake Tuggeranong today, so the younger GeoTeen and I inflated the TOTT ('The Betty Boop') and bravely set off under the bemused gaze of Christmas revelers.
Arriving at GZ we had some trouble locating the cache - GZ was barren except for the sad remains of a bush that has been cut down by probably unauthorised amateur arborists. We reached out to the CO who confirmed we were in the right place, and on a longer look we found the cable tie used to secure the container to a branch of the deceased plant, but sadly no cache.
After providing photos of our sad discovery, the CO has graciously allowed us to log this cache as found.
Thanks, Tankengine. A wonderful spot despite the absence of cache today.

I received a kayak this Christmas, allowing me finally to take to the high seas (or at least the lakes) in search of new caches!
With Tuggeranong being my home pond, there was no question that the two island caches here would be the first for me to cross off my list!
With a comfortably cloudy sky and gentle winds I set out for the maiden voyage in my K2 Explorer, leaving port at the Sea Scout Hall and paddling out northwards. I navigated my boat in a full loop of all the islands, scouting out the best places to come ashore. Then, with my course plotted, I landed first at the southernmost island, where I beached my kayak with ease.
The treasure at Southern Shores was located quickly, and I was able to do my work and leave again before arousing the suspicion of landlubbers across the water.
Paddling up to the northernmost island, I was able to moor my boat against a convenient low spray of Casuarina, and here again I searched for the hidden trove; this proved harder - the undergrowth was thicker here, and I had to crawl on all fours to finally reach the cache.
Now I set off again for home, head high at the success of my venture.

22,149. Found with minniek during an aquatic meander around Canberra today.
We have been wanting to hit the Canberra lakes and their caches for a while now, and today's CITO was the push we needed to do it. Drove in from Goulburn with 1 Kayak and borrowed another. After attending the CITO and finding caches on LBG and Lake G, we headed south to Tuggers. This was the last find for the day. Quick find once on the island. Signed the log, replaced the cache, then paddled to the Western Shores to pack the kayaks up and head to our abode for the night.

fitzy_1965 and I had been wanting to do some caches that required a water craft of some sort so today was the day.
Again made quick time down to this one with the winds really starting to pick up. Thankfully a quick find and then back to land and the car. Nine boat required caches in a day is probably enough.
Thanks TE.

We felt like taking the kayak out this morning, and figured we'd grab the two Lake Tuggeranong caches while we were on the water. Chris made the finds while Saf stayed behind in the kayak to keep it from floating away!
This one was a nice easy find. Log signed, then back in the kayak to paddle back to the car. TFTC TE!

Probably my most interesting find recently. Had the day off today, so went riding around the lake. I was in a great mood, when I remembered that there was a cache on the island that I was looking at. One problem though- I didn't have a boat. But hey, maybe I didn't need a boat..
So I did some quick research to make sure it wasn't too dangerous, before stripping down to my t shirt and pants.
I checked where the cache was on my phone, put my stuff in a bush and got in the lake. It wasn't far to swim at all, so it wasn't hard, even though I'm not a super strong swimmer. Pretty fun. Although I probably looked a bit strange talking to myself the whole time. But that was pretty fun too.
When I got to the island, I quickly found the cache, and quickly realized I didn't have my phone to take a photo, or a pen. :/ So I cursed a bit, but decided to just remember what it looked like, and hope that that would be enough, which it was.
Thanks Tankengine.
Adding a fp just for the experience lol

Today we came to the islands with a tentative plan knowing that we may not proceed with our adventure should the stars not align.
Not having any boating skills, or even a boat for that matter, there was a clear way for us to tackle island caches. Good weather, low wind, cool and clean water, kids boogie board, swimmers, river shoes, some swimming know how, some fitness and sheer determination. After speaking with the locals regarding safety, snakes and water cleanliness it was clear that our mission could proceed.
Well, as things turned out it was a great Sunday morning paddling and swimming for less than an hour going from island to island to island to....
A quick paddle/swim between islands made for a fun and exhilarating caching early morning. Worth a favourite point next time we earn one for being partly responsible for creating this adventure. TFTC Tankengine.

Found at 11:19 AM GAFF3 in the company of my cousin Andrea.
Managed to paddle to this cache quite close and then it was a matter of staring at a bush for a while - where is our expert cache spotter in these type of locations when you need her?
We later learned that the lake was closed to swimming, so when we returned to Andrea's place we immediately had a shower.
Thanks Tankengine

When we planned our trip to the Queanbeyan Mega we realised a kayak could come in handy... and how right we were. [^] After a coffee at Mimi's we found a place to launch it to hunt down a few caches.
We arrived at Southern Shores and easily spotted the cache. Unscrewed the lid.... and the tie attachment crumbled. [xx(] Oh cr....ickey! Signed the log and used the spare ring off our keyring for cache maintenance. [^] All good with this cache! TFTC Tankengine.

A group of us came for a fun paddle before Tankengines Creation Celebration event, to find 3 caches ... I had already found this one, but my TBs enjoyed the visit.
We joined the Canoe trip a bit late so we skipped straight to the middle island an then came back to di this one. Great day for Canoeing. Hopped out of the boat and found it quickly.
Thank you for the Cache Tankengine

Enjoy kayak with GeoGroup and thank you smithangranny for borrow Kayak today.... Tahnk you Tankengine
With the event down near the lake we hatched the idea an the event last week to tackles the islands on Lake Tuggeranong beforehand. A larger group meetup close to the islands and then a short paddle. Dino and I came slightly late (as we had forgotten the ores and go back for them). This was the third cache, another short paddle (this time with dty73s double paddle it went much faster - thank you) and walk over the island again. This time I managed get a dirty bottom while entering the boot again.
Thank you Tankengine for yet another cool cache.

What an awesome morning! After a good nights sleep and staying bed for a little while longer than I should have, but so needed... I got up and worked on a few more Mega chores, before heading down to meet everyone.
It was a quick trip to this cache which was good. Eventhough it was so much fun being out on the water in a mass kayaking adventure, we had a lunch date with the CO to attend. Tftc Tankengine!!!

Many thanks to Tankengine for not only placing these three caches out here, but for announcing that a group was headed out before this mornings event! I wouldn't of known otherwise and was very thankful to be able to join!
Myself and ALL7 came without a water transport device, so we sat on the shore for the first 30 minutes and watched everyone else find the caches from a distance. Joolay and Smittengranny quickly returned after finding the final cache and were very generous to lend myself and ALL7 their kayak's and gear for use
So myself and ALL7 paddled off together whilst everyone else was headed back to shore, we made a good plan of attack that assured we could exit and enter the boats with eachothers help easily and quickly without getting wet! The caches were all quickly found, luckily the large group before us had made one of them easier by excavating the natural camo that was a hinderance for them!
Thanks Tankengine! These caches have been on my radar for a long time now so awesome to finally find a way to get out here!

A great day for a kayak adventure on Lake Tuggeranong before a rare Tankengine event for the Creation Celebration. Joined Kittykatch, Joolay, Smittengranny, CBRChic, Flintstones & Dino, ALL7, Loci612, AKM and Dty73 on our various watercraft over to the nearby islands. The weather was absolutely fantastic with just a small breeze. The water was not too cool, but none of us planning to take a dip. Plans as they say .. CBRChic had a slow motion capsize as she tried to launch much to the amusement of the rest of us. Following our little adventure, we wandered over to the event, had lunch & a custard tart if you were lucky.
A quick first kayak find. I did the honours here.
Thanks Tankengine

oh and as the last finder of the day we must report that the container has come loose of its fixture, which seems to have just rusted through or something, so while we put it up again it could fall down any moment, the next finder might find it on the ground. Sorry we didn't have anything on us to fix this up again.
An absolutely fabulous morning for a kayaking expedition out to the islands to find these caches. The group included Kittykatch, Joolay, StrangeTrousers, CBRChic, Flintstones & Dino, ALL7, Loci612, AKM and Dty73. What a great bunch! Thank you all for your company - I thoroughly enjoyed the morning. SL Thanks again for another greaat cache Tankengine.

Australia Day long weekend? Must be time to see HappyUke! Her geospouse always heads to CanCon this weekend, so now that HappyUke has been introduced to the wonders of geocaching, she comes down too and we have a blast! The weekend is so damn hot so we had to be judicious about our cache choices. Today was Tankengine day, and I grabbed quite a few I had been eyeing off for a while.
This cache: HappyUke had brought her inflatable canoe with her so it seemed sensible to take advantage of that TOTT in my car, especially on a cooler day like today. And I had been super keen to grab these two higher T caches for ages. The cache was quickly found once we landed on the island, and then back into the canoe and onto the next. HU did not enjoy reaching through the thorns for it though!
Thanks Tankengine for the cache and the fun!

It's Australia Day long weekend and Finalf29 is at Cancon, so... of course I'm out caching with AngelG27 in Canberra!!!! Win win for everyone
Second day of our Canberra raiding and it became a bit of a tankengine fest, but also the ants had a HappyUke feast. At just about ever GZ today, I was meet with masses of ants... they left AngelG27 alone and would swarm and attack me! It was decided by the end they could "smell my fear". We had a fantastic time, beside the ants... challenging, but soooo satisfying. Thanks AngelG27 for another great day.
So glad to finally get the canoe in the water and the weather couldn't have been more pleasant. AngelG27 and I are now a well oiled team in the canoe set up. In no time we were out on the water, having a nice calm paddle out. Easy find at GZ, just mind the hawthorn spikes guarding the cache. Thanks

With the attraction of a kayaking event in the ACT this weekend, I headed down from Newcastle today, and picked up a few highly sought after caches along the way. Given I had the kayak, the goal today was to focus on a few T5 caches, and so I got up early to track this one down. A nice paddle out to GZ, which was a heck of a lot better conditions than later on in the day. A lovely spot.

Being in town for the T5 event Crash and ourselves had ventured down this direction for a particular puzzle so with yaks on board we decided to try for as many of the T5's in the area as possible given the wind and chilly temperatures. A short journey across the water and we did get lots of practice doing our Solo Man launches off the banks into the water. The cache was soon found and the signing duties completed. TFTC

Having been lured to DSD's T5 picnic event in Canberra, B@W and I headed further south after grabbing the T5 caches around the big lake where it was very windy and choppy. We'd brought the yaks a long way so might as well take advantage by grabbing a few more. A lot less windy down here and cache quickly in hand after a short paddle.

Looked around for a while then moved to the prickly option. Quick find after that. No pen left in car. Photo instead.
Another other lovely Autumn morning brought The Matetrix and I Southside for a few island caches. Clear skies and a slight breeze made for quick and easy rowing. Pulled up close to GZ and an easy find, fortunately, the bird poo a tad overwhelming at times. TNLNSL TFTC
Marmaduke Rothschild suggested a little paddle in the northern reaches of Lake Tuggers, so I removed the fat red-back spiders from the geo-kayak and loaded it into the geo-mobile. Didn't forget the geo-paddle and the geo-PFD and, this time, the geo-pencil. A short paddle from the boat ramp/beach beside the Sea Scout building. Easily achieved, even by this geo-oldperson. TFTC.
A short morning paddle with JohnnyBoyACT starting from the Scout Hall. It was good that JB had brought the pencil as I only remembered on landing at the first island. TFTC.
In my haste to get my kayak on the water, and making sure my 18 month old geo toddler had her life jacket on, I forgot my pencil. So made the find then headed to the bank to retrieve my pen from the car so I could sign the log.
Thinking of coming back for night time fish, beautiful place.
Probably wouldn't go swimming though.

Out today with Aquilus1 for some Kayaking and to find some caches. Was easy to stop here right by the cache and find it. Last time AQ1 was here there were plovers but didn't see any today which I was happy about. Thanks for the cache.
..and they never came caching with me again. Thats what I thought to myself when the hail started coming down... with me still in the kayak and my family on the shore line. Got a last minute call from Aquilus1 for an opportunity to do the Lake Tuggeranong island caches... sure, I'm in. We get there a few minutes late and Aquilus1 is already in the kayak, so I jump in the other one and off we go.
Great chat while we are on the water, then I realise my iPhone is not in a bag.. and I have my expensive watch on, and once we land I have no shoes... whatever lets go!
I do the honours signing the first one, a plover is cranky as hell, we see its eggs lying in a 'nest' on the ground, once we moved away it calmed down a bit. Ok, on to the next one.

Today, I purchased some watercraft (about time). A single sit-on-top and an inflatable double. I tested out the single kayak on Lake Tuggers, collecting this one and a few others.
At GZ, I referred to the hint, as I wasn't looking at the right height. Then it was a quick sighting and signing. TFTC TE. Time for a slightly longer paddle to test out this kayak. Seems to go well on the water.

With my youngest wanting to get out do something for the day, kayaking it seemed was on his to do list. Problem was my car has no roof racks and I could only fit the one kayak on the inside of the car. "Just try mum", he insisted so we did. Well what do you know! This car can fit two full sized kayaks on the inside, impressive!
Problem now was the seats where all down for the kayaks, so to make it a full family affair, Mr Aquilus1 was then pulled into this plan to help drive the other car so Shadowstorm1 could come as well. Remembering I had mentioned to CBR_Grahams about heading out one time with the kayaks a last minute phone call and we have a little group to head down to the lake.
After the warm sunny day a late afternoon paddle had appeal and with no sign of any afternoon storms was looking good. Kayaks in the water and a bit of a paddle about then CBR_Grahams turn up and we headed off. A bit windy by now but firm ground by the island to step out on and pulled up the kayaks so they didn't blow off on us. Plovers on the island made themselves known but then spotted their nest with the four little eggs in it so don't blame them really. Cache found ok and then onto the next island, thanks for the cache TE.
I enjoy opportunities to paddle my yellow kayak on Canberra's lakes during the warmer months, so decided to seek out the two Tankengine caches on the islands in Lake Tuggeranong during a paddle this morning. The good news is that it was easy to moor the kayak at both islands and both caches were easily located. The bad news is that Lake Tuggeranong is choked with algae, there were even a couple of dead ducks, and the kayaking was not very pleasant. I headed back to the carpark straight after finding the caches and headed home for a shower. Swimming out to the islands at this time would be most unwise.
Thank you Tankengine for the caches.
Thank you Tankengine for the caches.
On a warm Sunday morning I joined Sol de Lune, Fitzy_1965 & Luckl10n to paddle to a few of the remaining lake caches. We missed one and it was very windy on Lake Burley Griffin, but we had a great time and no one fell in ! This was my second cache on this island.
Thanks.

This was our first day caching in the ACT. After I found out I would be coming I spent a number of days working at solving local puzzles prior to arriving this morning. Sadly Janet had to stay back home.
Today 15 caches were found. 10 of these were either 5D or 5T or both. Trees and hills were climbed, lakes were navigated, and an unloved TB was freed the first time since 2011. All in all a great day.
This was the fourth find for the day and the first one for the boat. At least there wasn't a puzzle to solve first unless it was the field puzzle of how to connect the pump to inflate the boat. Eventually there was an inflated watercraft. Not quite the Queen Mary but it would do.
The deflated version had occupied much of my bag on the way over to Canberra from Adelaide on the 737 to the point where Janet had commented the previous night "So no room for undies then?" Sometimes I don't think she understands the concept of priorities.
Gear check time.
- oars - check
- extra rope - check
- pump in boat just in case - check
- lifejacket worn - check
- drybag with GPS, phone etc - check
Launch time - Damn, forgot the champagne. Oh well, no-one will know.
So off we set on our intrepid paddle. Just me and HMAS Minnow.
Strangely we didn't sink.
After landing I claimed the island for geocaching and left a flag. It was a moving ceremony. I could tell the duck was impressed.
And then it was on to GZ. Arriving I took a look around for the usual hides but then the word Tankengine just floated into my brain. I was starting to get the hang of these TE hides
Commemorative photo taken, cache contents examined and log signed.
Then it was time to row back to home port to regroup for an assault on Yellow Yachts.

Today saw the maiden voyage of my new kayak - "Jack de Crow II' (named after the (kinda) main character from my favourite book - 'The unlikely voyage of Jack De Crow' by AJ MacKinnon). I opted to try Lake Tuggeranong for my first outing - an area that I am familiar with and two island caches to collect. All went well from a nautical perspective, but I did have a major geocaching fail in that I neglected to bring a pen. Nevermind - it was a nice day for a paddle so I returned to where I parked the geo-ute, collected a pen and returned to sign the cache. All good, now on to the next cache! Thanks, Tankengine!
My apologies for this very late log - allrounder has advised me that I forgot to log this one.
I found it with mum and allrounder on a paddling adventure. Thank you for the cache.

Found @ 2:22pm with hccatcher11415 and squiggle30 for our first finds of 2016
Having retrieved the goodship Crooked from storage, today was the day to get out on the water. We launched from the beach near the Lake Tuggeranong Sea Scouts and zigged zagged our way to the "jetty". Beware the thistle strategicallty placed on the edge of the water to catch unwary sailors coming ashore (sorry 'bout that hcc!).
GZ was quickly located and I spotted the cache before letting the others to do the same - such a cool coloured container, it blends in well.
Thanks Tankengine

Found with allrounder and squiggle30 after an interesting paddle out on the blow up kayak. Oops forgot to tell squiggle30 she will prob get wet on the way out there. The joys for her not having to paddle.

Visited the Lake last week but without the necessary equipment. Made a note to come back, and did it today with Sir Maxy riding passenger. Took a while to find but got it in the end. TFTC Tankengine.
#1004 Today I pulled out my inflatable to finally grab this cache. It's been on my list for a while. I have only used my inflatable once before. Cache was pretty easy to find once I got there. I did want to venture over to 'Yellow Yachts' but I didn't feel confident enough. I'm a bit un easy on the waters, and the wind pick up. But I'm happy to have signed this one off. I need one today to continue my finding streak . Thanks Tankengine.
Hmmm. a bit dubious about the description. Archipelago...... possibly slightly less grand than that.
Any way, enjoyed the paddle out and the little explore of the island.
Unfortunately there were a pair of nesting plovers not to far away from the cache.
They were not to pleased about our presence, dam noisy birds.
Thanks for the find TS.

When ZQX suggested a caching mission south of Tharwa for today, I jumped at the chance. I provided the land transport and he provided the water transport (a double inflatable kayak).
On our way north, we stopped for a few caches. Since we were close to the lake, and equipped to venture out we took the opportunity to find them. As ZQX had already found this, I headed over for an easy find. TFTC.

Oops - logging this one rather late ... I found this one, and the other one on an island, while going for a paddle on the lake while visiting friends who live nearby ... it was only meant to be a quick paddle before dinner, but I was having too much fun finding caches and taking photos of birds and sky and I kind of got a phone call from my friends asking if I actually was coming back for dinner as promised, because it was getting dark and they were getting hungry
TFTC - always fun exploring islands, even if they are rather stinky from all the ibis poo

With the lure of another souvenir, beautiful weather (for winter anyway) and the kids in school, I made the most of the morning and brought my kayak down with the hope of grabbing both island caches. I came to this one first and was "harassed" in the most beautiful way by two magpies that carolled and chortled at me. They were absolutely convinced that I had food on me. When I showed one of them the ziplock bag I had placed my phone in, it grabbed the bag and ran off with it.
The cache itself I found quickly enough, but boy, that tree has thorns on it.
This ended up being my only cache on the lake as my next cache was right next to a nesting swan, so I left that one.
Thanks for getting me out on the lake TE by placing a cache here. It was great!

The first find of the day. Having done most of the Roadtrip souvenirs, I still had to collect one for the D5/T5 souvenir. This one fitted the bill! I bought a new inflatable kayak recently and was eager to give it a go. My dad and I agreed to do this one this morning and with the new boat, we were able to convince my mum that it would be safe to get this cache. I mean, it is only 40m!
We arrived near the cache but still had to get across. We inflated the boat and assembled the oar and then I was already to go to make my trip across to the island. I jumped in the boat and paddled across to the island without too much difficulty! Once there, I followed my GPS right to the cache! Log signed and cache replaced. TFTC Tankengine!

I found this one yesterday on such a beautiful day to go out and go kaya-caching. One of my favourites! Nice container TankEngine TFTC
What a great evening for a bit of a caching. I could say that I was chauffeur-driven to GZ but essentially I was chauffeur-kayaked. It felt rather indolent and luxurious ....was just missing someone to peel me some grapes....
With the help of a lot of captured air, held roughly in the shape of a canoe, we paddle off into destiny.
And a cache.
I provided no brainpower, but traveling resource.
It was kinda cool. Everyone should do it.
Thanks very much!

#1290 Champs first opportunity for a paddle since arriving in Canberra, and the choice of paddle locations were obvious with a few D/T combinations still blank on our stats.
Boss lady decided to stay in bed instead at the last minute, so Champs went by himself. Nice a quiet on the lake but the local paddle club made Champs efforts look very amateur as the sped past.
After my paddle around the big lake, I decided to head down south to the other paddle cache that would fill a gap on our D/T. Took all of about 5 minutes to paddle across, find the cache and paddle back.
SL TNLN TFTC +1 Fav for the D/T combo

[font=Lucida Console]8779. [green]Very happy to go for a paddle so jumped at the invitation from winglen alpha (which is the one that is with me at the time) to have a paddle this week to grab this cache. Headed off after work this afternoon and mostly paddled in a slight drizzle which I always enjoy. A very short paddle and we were at the island for the find - which was pretty painful coz like most TE caches there was a sting in the tail, or wrist and/or finger. Still fun and Mrs W may recount her special "thrill" when we arrived. [/green]
[blue]Thanks for the cache Tankengine and the Irish.

So having done very few local caches in months and months, I have become enthused again to clear out my 5km radius (after just noticing a nearby Challenge cache). McPhan was kind enough to take up my invitation to bring himself and his kayak so we could make this find, but the weather was looking grim. Luckily the rain more or less held off and it wasn't so windy that we were troubled on our short paddle. Had the weather been more temperate we would have gone for a longer paddle to make the visit worthwhile, but it just wasn't that sort of afternoon.
I see from his log McPhan has promised I would recount the special 'thrill' on arriving at the island. Whaaaah - after tucking my very new gps into my PFD it promptly fell straight out the side and into the water, to the sound of me wailing But I'm relieved to say it is OK - the USB cover was closed
Thanks Tankengine for the cache.

Well, Australia Day seemed like a great opportunity for a paddle and the weather was very nice first up this morning.
A quick paddle and soon the likely location was spotted. The spikes were a little off putting but far worse IMHO were the spiders webs covering the shrub. Still, a short careful grab and the cache was signed.
We spent a while longer paddling around before returning to shore.
Thanks TE for a great excuse to start the day well.

After all the shopping was done and the rest of the family went off to the movies I packed my $80 inflatable kayak and pump into the car and went off to find my 5th last T5 ACT cache. Luckily this one isn't far from shore as I wouldn't want to paddle this kayak much further! You sure picked a spiky muggle-proof bush for the cache.
Thanks TE

#713 - The second cache we have found on this island. Had a nice paddle and spotted a family of purple swamp hens. One of the young was much smaller than the other 2. Also saw a couple of cute baby ducks. TFTC Tankengine
An early morning paddle to beat the heat......as I certainly wouldn't be swimming in here. Lake is still closed for swimming, but boats/kayak are still ok.
Not far to paddle for this one, just 180 metres from where I launched, so was over there, on land, cache in hand in just over 10 minutes. Then back to the kayak and back to the mainland, and home about 40 minutes after I left....
Thanks Tankengine, another water one crossed off.....

Found 6:41 pm with LuckyL10n. We had come down to this region with my double kayak to specifically complete the cache out in the water. For those other caches in the area we may each pick up some bonus ones. We paddled out to the island, at the same time there was some guys that headed out to fish on kayaks they had decided to park themselves right near to where closest spot to GZ. So I decided to look just around the corner if there was a good place to land there. We found a reasonable spot and pulled the kayak up onto the shore. We headed over to GZ with LuckyL10n bare footed - not for me. Searching GZ there was no immediate success a little broader look and then back to where GPS had best reading. Some more searching and I then had the little fellow in hand after a few scratches from the flora. LuckyL10n had the honour of earning and sharing in the scratches too. Thanks for the cache.
#2735 - 18:40; After a day on the water yesterday, it was more of the same today as MrDamage and I loaded the kayak onto the roof and headed south for Tuggeranong. Reached the launching spot and saw a few of the local fishermen launching as well. Managed to get wet (again) as a small wave lapped over the edge just as we were launching. Oh well. After yesterday's mamoth effort on Lake Burley Griffin, this one was literally a walk in the park. Dragged the kayak onto the bank and we both headed overt to GZ where we circled before closing in on the cache. MrD drew blood during the retrieval, so it was up to me to do the log signing duties and return the cache to its hide while MrD administered first aid . TFTC Tankengine, much easier than our DNF yesterday on the other lake
We decided to head out on this hot day and try out the newly acquired inflatable two man kayak, we had whet our appetite on Lake Burley Griffin earlier and now it was time to tackle Lake Tuggeranong to collect this cache. We left the kayak in tact and loaded it into the geomobile through the tailgate and headed off down the parkway. We arrived and 1/2 of Canberra (slight exaggeration) were on the lake for some water sports, so we found a suitable entry point almost directly opposite the cache. Boot65 had decided to come down and join in for some fun and frivolity on the high seas with his kayak. We alighted the craft more ladylike than we did on our earlier attempt and it seems FFLL no 2 did not learn anything from the previous 1.2 km of paddling so we picked up where we left off. No 1 took control and we were soon across the short span of water. No 2 did the honours and no 1 remained alongside. The hide was soon located, log signed and it was back to lilo for the return journey. We pushed off from the bank and again headed in the wrong direction. Boot65 kept himself amused and circled back around us, finding toys to throw to us. Seems no 2 can't catch or throw these days, no 1 took on some water and returned the favour to Boot65 managing to land a few short in the water...tehee. The games nearly landed us in the drink, but we managed to came away a little damp. Which was very welcome in the heat. The bank loomed and we pulled along side, managed to get ourselves out of the boat and back to the car.
TFTC and for giving us a reason to get on the water twice in one day. Thanks for joining in the fun Boot65 was a great morning.

The water is nice on a warm day, and it's an easy, short swim to the island. In fact, the lake is so shallow much of the crossing to the island can be walked. Once there it was a quick, if thorny, find. TFTC Tankengine.
We commandeered some kayaks and sailed the southern shores. Make sure you watch out for the prickles!!
Great find. Tried getting there from sea scouts hall but was too windy and we could not get there. After a relaunch closer to the cache we were able to get it. Bit then the pen did not work so we had to go back and get another one. We finally were able to sign the log and find another cache. TFTC
The plan for today was to go get Lost KIWI Tourist. But I was suffering a coldy/flu-y thing and wasn't up for that degree of effort. I wanted to pick up some puzzle chaches, but ended up finding four trads and only one puzzle. This was a highlight. The second voyage of the good ship Inflatable-Don't-Take-It-Out-On-A-Windy-Day. Found the cache and then went for a paddle around the lake. It ewas that kind of lovely afternoon. Tks TE! Nice of you to replace the missing one with this one.
This was a really fun cache:-) I knew it would be because a few months ago I went searching for
the previous cache on this island which I did not find and was eventually replaced by this one:-) On my previous visit
after devoting alot of energy and not coming up with the goods, this time round the find was made
quite quickly, the hard and fun part is getting there. Took 3 others for some fun during school holidays
so it certainly looked funny with 4 people loaded into a inflatable boat designed only for 3 plus a dog
as well:-) Lucky the boat held well on a fairly windy afternoon.
Enjoyed by all and a very satisfying find, thanks.

3277. I did think about a moon lit evening paddle (as recommended by the reviewer), but mothers day activities were apparently more important. So this morning I threw the kayak on the roof racks and headed to the Southern Shores.
Yes it was a little cool and yes the algae was prolific (Slimy Shores would definitely be more suitable at the moment), and I made my way to the island.
A quick hunt around and the container with its blank log were soon discovered. A *FTF* at 0718hrs. Then it was back across the green slime and off to work.
Thanks TE for yet another adventure.

I used to swim near here but wouldn't do it anymore. Will have to wait until the coach says we will do Open water again!
