Nice walk

Dropped my pen somewhere on the way to the first of the 'Poppets', so unfortunately having to photo log them.

I was amazed at the network of paths for hiking & biking. There must have been an event on as there were little arrows everywhere and the whole circuit had been swept!! Not a leaf or twig in sight!

Another gorgeous day in CBR, and so I pointed the eMTB interstate and enjoyed a 16km loop through the northern section of Kowen Forest. Lots of wallabies and roos around, and being a weekday, no trailbikes - although their tracks are everywhere.

Spectacular views and general all-round scenery from this group of caches, and a thoroughly enjoyable expedition.

This cache: A short ride from the weir. Lovely open forest at the top here; a straightforward find at GZ, with cache and log are in good condition.

Thanks, Tankengine!

#3632 Poppet Peak was our ultimate goal today for reasons which will be made clear in that specific log. On our way up and back down we also picked up some extra trads. This was the first and was soon enough spotted in its perch. Thanks TE for highlighting this little area.

A smaller crew this time, just Bark2e and myself returned to Kowen Forest to finish the rest of the non-roo caches and then take on 20 roo caches. It was another warm sunny day and we did quite a bit of walking today.

I was impressed to see the formal tracks in this area, that seems so remote. maybe there is a more standard way to get in then the one we used.

Thanks for the cache Tankengine

Ahhh this Tankengine hide was showing it's age a little bit! One of the weathered mega bison's that looks to be pink in colour, and shock horror.... cable ties to secure it! [:o]

Another great spot and hill, none of the tracks are marked but I stumbled across them which helped with the trek.

All in good condition here! Thanks Tankengine

It was a great day for a long walk. Not too hot, not too cold, but just right.

We parked on what we thought was public land, but ended up being not. The locals aren't too happy about strangers in these here parts and so I would recommend making sure you parked where you are certain it is public. Even though some locals THINK that the public land is also theirs. We were lucky that the local we met was a bit more polite than some of what we have heard about. It made our walk easier, but it is the risk you take.

This cache: It was a great walk down and up and following along the bike tracks to GZ. The cache was straightforward to find then we off following the track to the next one. Tftc Tankengine!!!

Headed off early in some fairly thick fog, soon cleared though and a lovely sunny day to be out walking the area. Border bash was the focus with poppet peak and its collection of near by caches also on the list, stopping at fire finder on the way back to the car.

Oh boy, was there a few hills to tackle, the ones that are steep enough to be slower down than up, but on the whole, mostly an enjoyable walk along the easy enough trails. Thanks for the caches TE, all caches found today were yours!

Quite a few people out walking in this area, not surprising as it is a nice and maintained area of trails and paths.

Found today on a walk along the border. Great trails here.

Condition Report:. Good and dry
Log Status:. Lots of room

Thanks for hiding this cache Tankengine

Very impressed with the paths around here. So much work and effort has gone into maintaining them. I know they are used for the marathons but excellent to walk on. This was a quick find and soon returned and onto the next one. TFTC Tankengine.

Came up from the weir below and wasn't long before the cache was found. Had that weird feeling someone was watching me. See if you get it too! Onwards to the pen. TNLNSL TFTC

The second day in Kowen, a much shorter but very enjoyable visit together, I cherished the time I had out and about with Dino today. We started off with caches at the northern end and continued onto the back of the roo.

This cache:
What is it with all the path around here. This seems to be in the middle of nowhere yet ther are seemingly well maintained path all over the hills here. Non of the are on the maps that I had and really the are seems rather hard to even find access to. Quite astonishing but it made for a nice wonder to this cache. And one note the cache guard right in front of GZ. Maybe it is them who made all the path....

Thank you Tankengine for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Nice cache. Easy find.

Nice cache. Easy find.

Working of some of the kangaroo and the surrounding caches at the northern end today. Nice day with not many clouds. Perfect temperature. Quick walk to the top of the hill and we found the cache. Great time finding the caches with Fred.

Thank you for the Cache Tankengine

Second day out and about in Kowen Forest saw fitzy_1965 and I targeting everything but the Roo.

I ended up with 18 Tankengine caches and we got two surprise FTF's. Was definitely a great day out.

Was an easy trek over to this next peak to find Poppet's Partner. The hardest bit was finding the path again back up to the car.

19,380. Found with minniek during Day 2 of our meander around Kowen Forest.

While the 'cousins' were mostly hitting the Kowen Roo, we decided to take advantage of the forest access and concentrate on - mostly - the eastern side of the forest and clean out that area. We went through the Sparrow Hill Gate at about 11:30 and started on our list. This was the next find of the day. With time up our sleeve we decided to do the Poppets caches. We parked on the border track at the infamous northern gate and wandered down the hill to the cache. A quick search and the cache was in hand. We signed the log, replaced the cache, then headed off to the next one.

Thanks Tankengine !! Without aiming for them I found 14 of your caches today (minniek 18) - awesome work Smile

A day of geocaching with Marmaduke Rothschild and contesta, primarily the SRPT series but also some nearby caches. My contribution on this road trip was to drive. But for 4 around here (including this one) we all enjoyed a short walk. TFTC.

TFTC Smile nice colour too TE, always a pleasure

May the 4th be with you as it was with us for this 32nd find.

Out and about with friends who live behind Kowen Forest. Took the opportunity with these new caches just released to walk closeby. Lovely part of the forest. Perfect weather for a short brisk walk of approxmately two kilometres.

This cache was found on our way back to the car and our friend's place nearby. Enjoyed the open scrubby bushland and the little person who greeted us near GZ. TFTC Tankengine.

A lovely walk out along the border again, lots of little trails through the area and would be a wonderful mountain bike ride!
GPS put me about 10m out before converging. Cache spotted and signed.

Out on my RDO caching day. Perfect weather and more caches than I could hope to find. I made my way in via Bingley way and Womboin. Saved a very long walk from the main road. Parked within 300 meters of the cache. Made my way up enjoying the mature bush. Very nice. Took a little while for the find but obvious in the end. Unfortunately the o-ring is dead and the contents where wet. Did my best for a dry out and a make do with the o-ring. May need a new one.
Very enjoyable start to my caching day. Thanks for the cache TS.

Out with Goldenwattle and Decrypter to find some caches in the Bywong/Wamboin area.
We had been on our way to this one when somehow we'd ended up across the border, doing some of the roo series. On our return we parked nearby and walked to GZ. Once there we soon spotted the hide. TFTC. On our drive we also spotted two echidnas, one in the ACT and one in NSW.

Found at 10:53:00 AM

After doing Poppet's Peak I rode as close as the main track allowed, then stashed by bike in the bushes and continued on foot. Probably could have ridden, but it was only a few hundred metres. I was distracted by a phone call while searching and had to resort to the hint. Duh!

Thanks Tankengine

Today, we decided to go find some interesting places around this neck of the woods. We got to poppets hill, but couldn't find the data for the multi.

Saw another cache nearby that would lead us to more interesting places, so we went in search of that, and took the amarok on some more trails

Found the remnants of said tower too. I think. Thanks for the cache, and placing it in an interesting location!

I wanted to check out the Northern entrance (for future reference) and decided to grab this one along the way. A nice walk up the track to the top and the cache was found quickly. I then took the geomobile up the track to the border and with care made it OK. Maybe I'll try some of the nearby multies on a cooler day.

Thanks

We drove as close as we could - about 155 metres, then walked the rest. As usual TikvaNZ spotted this one, but I signed the log for both of us.

26th and final cache of the day, but the first in NSW.

Tks TE!

Another Sunday afternoon expedition with ZQX to find more of the Kowen Roo series. After finding 25 of them we returned to the car. On the way out, we parked as close as we could get to this one, and wandered up for an easy find, then headed for home. TFTC.

#1023 1 of 31 today.

Out with Mtrax, MCKTCJ, Tankengine & led by MTrax's indefatigable dog (who's name escapes me for now) to ride down the back of the Kowen 'roo. Although not part of the Kowen Roo series, TE pulled up on the way to our starting point to allow the rest of us to grab this one. The cross-country jaunt up the hill warmed us up a bit, but we followed the track back down to the car in the fog.

Thanks for the cache Tankengine

This is where our adventure began today. After meeting Tankengine, Mtrax and Strange Trousers at 8.30am, in the thick cover of fog and minus temperatures, we headed off for our adventure. The cache owner stay in the warmth of his car while the rest of us jumped out and hot footed it up the hill to make the find. We bush bashed for a bit only to find that we could've stayed on the trail the whole way. Found the cache easily, Mtrax did the paper work for all of us, then we headed back to the warmth of the car. Lovely spot and a fun way to begin the day. Thanks for bringing me here (Literally!) and TFTC! Smile

Out on a very cool Canberra morning with Tankengine, StrangeTrouses, and mcktcj . Parked one set of cars at alternative CP and the other are the northern end then worked dow from about 29 back to 01.
Also took geodog who enjoyed the forest walk, alot of cross country walking not much on the trail walking. Found all the caches ok, and totalled about 18,000 steps or about 16km.
mcktcj supplied some pocked warmers which was much appreciated as temps hovered below and around zero for most of the day. Enjoyed a warm chilli for lunch which marked another cold patch but warmed up right at the end of the day.. lol. started around 9am and finished around 2pm so we covered alot ..
great day out..

28-Jun-15
Drove up as far as the 2WD would go and then hoofed it up to grab this one before taking the bike for a push around a few more of the roo series. Cache found after a few moments and all was good.

Thanks Tankengine......good to find the road in.

On my way out to the North gate to continue the Kowen Roo adventure. Stopped and grabbed this one as I was passing. Nice little track up to this cache. Thanks Tankengine

4147. With a one billionth of a ounce of energy left after chasing down some kangaroo caches in the area, Tanso and myself dragged our tired bodies up here to grab this cache. A minute or two later and we may have needed a torch.
Thanks TE for the cache and a happy ending to a good half day out caching. So glad it was all down hill from here.

18-May-15
Boot65 and myself where out getting some of the roo today so we got this guy on the way out in the dark a lot of fun that was lol

A nice day for a walk around Kowen forest and along the border between the ACT and NSW. 19.8 kilometre walk 6 trigs including a couple of multis, sighted one fox and a few kangaroos. TFTCs.

Well....it's only another 1km....as the crow flies....one one direction.... but it's really not even lunch time yet and such a glorious day we may as well. Found the easiest route in, (another 'what the?' moment as this is very rare) and enjoyed sharing lunch with the hound at GZ. Didn't see another soul which was both good and bad of course as it was such a nice day to be out in it. Said hound now fast asleep at my feet.

Our first cache was Poppet Peak many years ago. Nice to find another so close to home. Lovely walk on the last day of winter. Impressive container! TFTC

What lovely walking trails in these parts. Found I presume the correct way in, which didn't get me shot by any ornery landowners and made my way up. Still, the wind had a bit of a chill to it.

As your FB comment stated last night " you have gotta be close " and we were.

We were doing the Sutton Road cache at the border and just moved on a few KM's further.

A new notification came out and that was good enough for us.We found the dirt trail in and got the geo mobile to within about 300m and hoofed it in from there.

Nice to be a blank log sheet and signed the spot at 1.15 pm.
Many thanks to Tankengine .
Top spot for a cache hide and good views in all directions.
