I found this cache after dropping my son off at the Hillary Outdoor pursuits centre. It was good opportunity for me to grab a few caches to break up the long drive back to Hamilton. Took longer than expected and cache is not in great shape...

It's spring time, and that means weekend road trips to go see bands play, which in turn means geocaching. I woke up this morning in Taupo with the only goals being to get back home to Wellington and find a few caches along the way. this was one of them.I've lost track of the number of times I have wanted to stop for this one, but traffic, or time, or parking, or some other reason always prevented me. Finally, today, it happened and I was able to stop and head around for a look. Not quite warm enough to be swimming today but the cache was found. Log book is still wet, and I knew that but still forgot to bring any replacement paper. ---Thanks to Onehunga Gypsies for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.

Day 12 on our holiday in New Zealand. Today we are in the area and surrounding area of Ruapehu, and then we go to Rotorua. We also visited this tradi, found it, and signed the logbook, which is still wet.

***T4T$ - Many Thanks to Onehunga Gypsies for hiding and maintaining of this cache*** ️

Been an epic week so far, have got a 10,000th milestone on Mnt Ruapehu a few days ago, then been tramping about 12 arduous hours over 2 days to get the old cache T-2 with rustynz, and stay in an awesome hut, Totara hut in the Ruahine ranges. Stayed the night with a caching buddy FMZ last night in Turangi. Now off home in Auckland via Rotorua, I have some unfinished business there.

I have been meaning to do this cache for along time! Either I haven’t had time or unable to stop in time, but today the road is more or less mine, so no issues parking up heading to Taupo. Walked back past the barrier, people aren’t kidding when they say this place has just become a human toilet. So, while it is an excellent location. It just isn’t. Did take me a while to find the cache, I even moved the pumice, but not picked it up, wandered around aimlessly and came back, this time I picked it up and realised it must be the cache, sure enough, looked at it’s bottom and viola! Log in hand. Not a place you really want to visit, but a cache is a cache.

20-Feb-22
Teamed up with Geckoh this weekend to climb to the top of Ruapehu to get the Tippy Top cache. Nice quick find here today after climbing Ruapehu. On our way home now doing a few drive by caches as we go. Tftc

29-Jan-22
We go past here regularly but always on a mission or with kids. Today all lined up, so we parked at the metal dump after avoiding all the huge holes. The area was larger than I expected. We had seen people jumping from here and a week ago it was pumping. Today it was very quiet with only two boats below us. The cache was where I thought it might be but I wasn't keen on accessing it. The place has been used as a urinal and stinks. Unfortunately the cache does too. Major disinfection after signing. Thanks for the placement.

29-Jan-22
Yes ooooh smells like a WC..you would want to wear more than a face mask..maybe full body ppe gear.
Nice camo but it would be better in a slightly different position ie up high away from the flow so to speak...lots of boats and people enjoying themselves in the bay belowthanks for the placement

18-Dec-21
Just spent a couple of days in Taupo and now heading to Turangi. Stopping for a few caches on the way. Enjoyed the nearby Motutere walkway then doubled back for this cache. Didn’t take long to find the cache. Sadly the log was not crispy gypsy but more soggy boggy. Signed the replacement log. Could do with some TLC. Thanks for the smiley.

In the area attending a CITO event and had to give this one another go. Glad that we were able to sneak into the carpark with another vehicle already there. Fortunately, these people were down on the rocks so were able to see what we were doing. Again, we couldn't believe how quickly we uncovered the cache - which goes to show, we do better in daylight! Glad to have been able to turn this frown upside down. TFTC

A nice quick find thanks. Parking wa a bit marginal, but safe. Cache was the first place I looked. A FP from me, cheers.

Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. It was a great weather today, the best so far. Mts Ruapehu and Ngaruhoe looked great from around the lake. We were travelling from Turangi to Rotorua

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

#9650. I am heading up to a conference in Thames over the weekend and decided to leave early and drive up to pick up more of the geotour caches. I am driving north with a muggle friend from work who has done some geocaching with me on past trips and proven a dab hand at locating caches. This cache has intrigued me for a while as I have been past here more than a dozen times in the past few years but the car parks have been full on a summers day. Today in early winter it was deserted. So we parked nearby and wandered back to GZ. Saw where it was most likely hidden but had to find a safer way to access GZ. Once there my muggle friend made an instant find. The logbook was saturated. So added a replacement logsheet in a fresh plastic bag. Signed the new logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks Onehunga Gypsies for the cache.

29-Apr-21
This place is really nice but I guess the work done by Waka Kotahi hasn’t helped in making it more accessible. Beautiful though. Unfortunately as per previous log the logbook is completely wet and can’t really dry the way the cache works. Good idea though. TFTC Smile

17-Apr-21
Unable to locate this one by torchlight tonight, will have to come back in daylight sometime.

Unfortunately there is a Rahui on the area at the moment. We will have to try another time.

Found with a sister during our expedition to NZ (from CZ), where we explored part of the North Island and could visit our classmates and friends that we have not seen for several years, as it is here, in Auckland and Napier live ... Thank you for cache ...

10-Apr-19
Scary walk alongside fast moving traffic on the narrow path. Found after a short search, but as mentioned by others, the log is very wet and covered in mould.

10-Apr-19
This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.

08-Jan-19
Every other time we have passed this spot there has been no room to park the car. Today there was just enough room to squeeze the tiny caching wagon into and the cache was located without too much problem. TFTC

Last leg of my journey home after my Christmas break up in northland. After spending the day with family holiday if I’m Rotorua, I headed off with a mind of being home at about 8pm as tomorrow is the dreaded first day back at work. Of course I targeted a few caches to get on the way but truth be told, I don’t have a lot left to collect between Taupō and Feilding so I knew it would a stop free trip from there.

Not much traffic as I came through here and both parking bays were clear. Managed a quick find but Everything wet inside which made my own not work. Tftc

Parking was scary, and I felt like a mountain goat on the side of the road, but the view was worth it!
The log needs maintenance as is waterlogged...

12-Mar-18
Great location and hide. Unfortunately, the container is no longer waterproof and the logbook is mush.

08-Mar-18
Took a while to find but we got it in the end . Log could do with replacing. TFTC.

We travel this road quite a lot so don't have that many caches left to pick up without going off track a wee bit. This is one we've always been in too much of a hurry to find our way to, but today we figured it was time to give it a go.
We parked up Taupo side of the barrier and carefully made our way to GZ. We'd read some of the previous logs and knew the co ords may or may not accurate so just set about looking in the general area. After a little while of fruitless searching we went back to where the GPS indicated and found it pretty quickly this time. We should have trusted it more in the first place!
A nicely hidden cache, thanks Onehunga Gypsies.
We left a pet rock - a calf, & picked up the 2 TB's that had been in here a while.

A short search before someting appeared that fitted the hint. Have passed this cache and a prvious version soo many times in the car. Great place for a cache.

Together with arbor95 I am on a holiday tour in New Zealand. Cool

We are two Germans, old friends since a long time. Together we visited a lot of other countries in the past, even before we started geocaching. [^]

For our trip we usually looking for some extraordinary caches. Wink

Therefore we had mostly a lot of fun. Big Grin

On our way back to the motel we stopped here to sign the brand new logbook and putted two TB in.

Thank You very much for this geocache, for the challenge and for the maintaining.

Greetings from tripleclaus to Onehunga Gypsies. Smile

After a short search we decided to widen our search area and then one of the group suggested a different area and the cache was soon found. Thanks.

25-Oct-16
This one had us going for a while but the suggestion of geohubby's proved correct and he made the find. We were very happy and gladly signed the log. A great little promontory for a cache that was fun to explore. Thanks for the cache [^][^]

24-Oct-16
On the way home from Turangi and the MEGA with garball. The access was a little hairy but managed to get to the right place. It took a while, there were 4 of us on the hunt (joined by the scoobydoos and yodabeach), lots of areas that were possibilities and at times we could hear each other but not see each other and there was some weird rubbish lying around all a little creepy! Yay, found it, well not me this time! Logged signed. Thanks for the hide Onehunga Gypsies.

Day 8 of our Mega Roadtrip. We arrived from a different direction but at the same time as richary. He and Mum went down looking while I stayed up top and played supervisor richary had over looked this but as soon as Mum saw it she knew it was the cache. Well done and nice camo. Agazo arrived just in time to get his name signed in the book. Thanks for the smilie Smile

24-Oct-16
Parked at the north end of the barrier in part because there was a car at the south end already - although this same car pulled up behind us as we got out of the car and there were thescoobydoos and yodabeach. Narrowed down the search area but by the time I'd gopt there yodabeach had searched and reckoned it was elsewhere, so while scouting around thescoobydoos researched unbeknownst to us and came up with the goods. As we were signing the log we could hear others approaching from the south so scrabbled to rehide it before they arrived. Nice hide Onehunga Gypsies. Will have to bring a big rubbish bag next time - what are people getting up to in here - came past some undies and a towel (not in same spot)???

24-Oct-16
Tftc! Area could be a suitable spot for a cito...loads of rubbish around. But only parking for max of 3 cars. Cool camo though.

24-Oct-16
Heading back north, i didn't feel that the pre-barrier park was safe so parked at the bigger area around the corner. Surprise surprise, more cachers, on their way from the mega. The four of us searched high and low before thescoobydoos found it. Pity about all the rubbish here - spoils an otherwise nice spot. Tftc

24-Oct-16
The time at the mega is over, and it is time to head north making my way towards the Bay of Plenty where I haven't been before as I don't have to fly home until next Saturday from Auckland. Made it to about 20 minutes south of Rotorua today caching along the way.

This took a bit of looking and in fact I had looked at it before discarding, luckily as it had turned into a 3 team group find by this stage one of the others checked again and saw what I had missed. Thanks Onehunga Gypsies.

24-Oct-16
Well for the first time in 4 days I was caching alone, on my way home from the 2016 Turangi MEGA. The cache was found after a 10min search - in good condition. A good hint and straight forward placement was handy then I stumbled right into the middle of a random photo shoot! 3 of the 5 five thought I was mad but then another person asked me if I was doing 'that geocaching thing?' That put a smile on the dial, cheers Onehunga Gypsies - an awesome spot, great view but indeed a shame about the rubbish - TFTC.

Master SethRaven and I are heading home after attending the Mega event at Turangi this weekend past and we have had a great time . . . . thanks for this hide and the little adventure that goes along with it. I took a hard route down but then found a much easier one back up . . . whew! Big Grin

Glad I had the help of a caching friend with me who had found it already. Even so it was an interesting exploration here, then we heard voices and had a laugh! TFTC

24-Oct-16
After saying goodbye to Turangi, I headed north and picked up several caches I skipped on the way down due to rain. Mum already made the find by the time I got to GZ. TFTC.

Turangi Mega Event NZ Day 3
Today we chose to tour the western side of Lake Taupo, picking up caches as we made our way along.
What a great way to visit this very scenic area. Mountains & Lakes views from every turn in the road
A tricky final location it was hubby who wandered down to the lower level to locate the find.
Favourite point given here.
Thanks for placing this cache Onehunga Gypsies

After attending the Flashmob in Turangi Mrs Yeetrees and I decided to team up with bjk97, LBH, wb1116 and SAROC and head to Taupo for the day and pick up a few caches along the way

This was the next cache of many that we found today.

This was one of many caches that has being placed here since I was up here last for caching, that was over 5 years ago.

Arriving near GZ our chauffeur managed to find a carpark just off to the side of the road out of the way of the traffic, we have being through here numerous times when we use to live in the BOP. SAROC and wb1116 went out to search for the cache and after a bit of waiting bjk97 went out to see if they we still looking for the cache or if they had decided to take the leap of faithRazz.

Took a little while but they returned to the car all dry and advised us that they had signed the cache and then it was replaced back as found, thanks for placing this cache here and for bringing us to this location.

Have observed that there had being quite a few muggles in pass visit taking the leap and enjoying the water around this area, another great spot for a cache, TFTC TNLNSL (11071)

We were out caching our way up to Taupo whilst at the Mega event. We headed to GZ and admired the view from here. Not a chance we were going to take a plunge, but with some of the clothes lying around at GZ it looks like someone else had. There was a bit of searching going on, but I was sure that with the terrain rating we needed to expand the search a little. I soon had the cache in hand and replaced as found. This one was a fun find and worth a favourite. TFTC #653

23-Oct-16
Out caching during the Mega. Took a bit of hunting, because there were lots of places it could have been. Small Pooka got the right idea from the terrain rating had the cache in hand. TFTC.

23-Oct-16
Had a bit of a hunt for this one along with WB1116 an Yeetrees. After some time our driver, BJK97, dropped in to see what the delay was. He kindly indicated the general direction (having previously found it in times past) before heading back to the car. A short time later we were rewarded with the cache after a bit more searching.
The log is reasonably damp and could do with some fresh air and drying out or replacement. Unfortunately wasn't in a position to assist this time around. TFTC

#2481 Turangi MEGA weekend with Nic-Jay and keewee- Saturday: Turangi to Craters of the Moon and quite a few caches in between after the opening spiel and half of the lab caches at camp. Perfect day for it- lovely weather and stunning views. Parked at the South end and wandered down to above GZ- what a spot! The colour from the water up here was incredible. Had a laugh at the underwear hanging in the broom and then set to work finding the cache. Took awhile to track down as the GPS was bouncing around but eventually found it safely tucked away. TFTC!

Found on the way to the mega. Glad to be getting a few more to build my numbers up!
Headed from Napier early this morning on our way to Turangi with MorganEd, a few good laughs along the way before we met up with another cacher who then spent the evening caching with us! Thanks for placing this cache.

I used to come here often as a kid and go swimming. Very glad to see it is still used! So many good memories. Thankfully we had a break in the rain and had a beautiful blue sky!

21-Oct-16
I was a bit worried about the safety her, but once we got over the barrier it was easy going. What a surprise when we got down to the water.. just stunning.. I wish it had been a bit warmer and we might have jumped in. A great location and a good hide.. I might just give it a fav point! Tftc

10-Sep-16
This was a great one to find we had stopped here before on our way to Taupo, but thought it was a bit dangerous and some times couldn't stop as too much traffic following. But today was our lucky day got a park managed to walk to the cache area what an interesting spot who would of known this was here. Found the cache in another interesting area it was nicely placed and cache was all good. Thank goodness people that were here just before us had gone and they obviously were not geocachers as the log had not been signed, either that or they didn't find it. we got lots of people tooting at us unsure why but waves anyway. Gets a FP from us Thank you for placing a cache here.

10-Apr-16
Was with tmann421 who guided me to this well hidden cache. Log book quite damp and couldn't get my pen to write. Have taken a photo of the log if the CO requires me to send.

A great spot. Have passed by here many times on my way to Taupo and never taken the time to stop. Thanks for brining me to this lovely location and TFTC

26-Mar-16
Second visit here for me last time we were here it was pretty gross rubbish and human waste everywhere, today though kaleb got brave and did the jumps and it didn't take long before we had the cache, why we didn't spot it last time..... the log book was fully soaked through but was still able to sign the log. Tftc

28-Feb-16
We've lived in the area for years, but hadn't stopped at Bulli Point before. Today was the day, and I did the jump into the lake. Thought I'd pick up this cache on the same visit when I did the jump, but with four of us looking for a good 15 minutes, we came up empty. Will have to try again someday relating to both the jump and finding the cache. Some others in our group who were afraid of the jump will have another chance now too!

Awesome spot!!! Perfect hint - great spot for a swim too...

Off on a big mission to find all the caches from Taupo to Turangi with 11hpg11, kiwis69 and HKCB.

So much rubbish around and looks like some people use nearby for a toilet stop! Not great but the cache was found after a long hunt. I've never ever stopped here though, what a view!

10-Jan-16
A bit of a last minute throw together caching mission today for a clean out run through Taupo/Turangi area with 11HPG11, Kiwis69, Kyb3r and myself. We thought we'd forgo our usual meticulous planning and just wing it for a change, though I couldn't help myself and I spent a few minutes working out a basic plan last night. With a 4am start this morning, we had a long but pretty successfull day, with only a handful of DNF's, though I think all but one GPS's had issues today (mine being pretty much useless) and achieving most of what we roughly set out to do and with the bonus of getting home before dark (just). We signed the logs with 11HK693R, a combination of our user names. A big thanks to all the CO's for placing all the hides.

Thought we'd have to give this one a miss as there were a few people parked up here. Quickly dropped off everyone while I shot up the road to find a save park and run back down to join in on the hunt. Had just got to GZ when K69 extracted the cache from it's hiding place. Such a shame there is so much rubbish here.

10-Jan-16
Out and about on another fun-filled mission with a bunch of Hamilton cachers to pick up as many Taupo caches as possible before our 6pm curfew. Today's caching crew included myself, HKCB, 11hpg11 and kyb3r. We were missing a couple of regulars from our team which was a shame, not least because it meant inventing a new caching name instead of our usual abbreviated caching combo; challenging when our vowel hasn't fronted up! Hence why the log was signed as a bit of a nonsensical mis-mash of our names.

Having cached and dashed our way around Taupo, we're on our way towards Turangi hoping for a few more finds before it's time to hit the road home. A few muggles here when we arrived but they were more focused on the water, and not watching us. Helped to have several pairs of eyes & hands searching the various nooks and crannies here, in the end, found and duly signed. Cool camo. Thanks for yet another cache placement, TFTC

10-Jan-16
A bit of a spur of the moment caching mission today, I don't think any of us were fully prepared but that is sometimes the funnest way to go... apart from when you have various GPS issues... grrr.. Today we decided to tackle Taupo and Turangi area and try and clean up as many caches as we could before we had to be back home to our families. Our team today consisted of HKCB, Kyb3r, Kiwis69 and myself and we had a few different names through out the day, either HKPG693R or 11HK693R depending on how tired our brains were. An early start, left Hamilton at 4am to make the most of our 'day off'

Couldn't believe how many people were parked up here jumping into the swimming hole. Luckily they were too busy doing that to wonder what we were up to. Glad for many eyes here as I probably would have given up with all that rubbish around. Luckily K69 was onto it with eagle eyes and spotted something that fit the hint and we soon had the cache in hand. Stunning spot, just a shame people don't respect it enough to pick up their rubbish.

Had a pretty good look but no luck, also didn't have a good signal from the gps so had to look around a fair bit. The swim was good though Smile

Found it with Team FIN [janahola, kapeka, laalaa & temyllyl]

We had fun with caching few weeks here in New Zealand. Lots of geocaches and many sort of them too. We saw awesome places, weather was pretty good all the time and people were friendly and polite. Caches were pretty similar like in our home country. Of course there were some exeptions. Nice and really scenary country!

Greetings from Finland

On a geoholiday road tripping to Christchurch MEGA and around beautiful New Zealand. Our four people group (temyllyl, laalaa, kapeka and myself) from Finland used group tag FIN to log the caches.

Today we drove around the Lake Taupo. Of course some caching on the way. We had lots of fun and saw many nice places and caches. Thanks for the cache!

Welcome to MEGA Finland in 5-7 august 2016!

15th day on our geo-roadtrip in New Zealand, and caching our way towards north. Logged using our group nickname FIN with janahola, laalaa and kapeka. After having a blast in South Island and in Christchurch Mega event, we had to start heading back home. Fortunately we still had few days left to spend in NZ while driving to Auckland.

Day 48 of a 50-day streak... Sharing the adventure with Gap (of Fap and Gap).

We had been praying for some new cache placements as the weekend progressed, but there wasn't much action in that respect... A new placement in Taupo was about the only new cache on the horizon. With some recent DOC caches thrown into the mix, and I might just get a few more to add to my current geocaching license list...

I have been meaning to stop to check this one out for ages... Today was my chance. This was a cache find to keep the streak alive... We parked precariously on the roadside and walked down into ground zone. Gap had done this one before, so it was a matter of tagging along until we got to ground zone. After a brief search, we found it... And a piece of camouflage that I really like using myself. TFTC.

Clever hide just off a busy road. Would be fun to jump off rocks as mentioned in previous logs Smile TFTC.

Another nice find on a bit of a trip up north.

First day away and mostly found caches around Taupo and Rotorua.
No problems here - Took a few minutes to spot
