Being one of the last to see this cache in action I went back to confirm if it is gone and can Sadly say that it is no longer with us

28-Feb-11
The cache appears to be in need of owner intervention. I'm temporarily disabling it, to give the owner an opportunity to check on the cache, and take whatever action is necessary. Please respond to this situation in a timely manner (i.e., within 30 days) to prevent the cache from being archived for non-responsiveness.

I too wasted my time on this one today.
It really has no saving grace in interesting location, clever hide, etc so it should be archived and cleared off the data base.

It won't get replaced by the cache owners, so it should be archived.

17-Jan-11
Had another try at this one with two geokids and familiarity with all the previous posts. GPS was a bit all over the place but despite searching all around, still could not find it. Given that it is one star difficulty, I wonder if it is still there . Perhaps the owner could check?

10-Dec-10
Had a quick look but I didnt have my hopes up after reading the previous few logs, I guess I need to be added to the DNF list

26-Oct-10
Didn't found this one. I performed for at least 4* but no luck. It's a bit hard to believe those terrain *-s mentioned here Smile, maybe that was my problem.

10-Oct-10
Would have loved to have found this cache, it's been around for a while, it's a cool spot and a friend used to live in the houses just above this section of freeway. Everybody says the coordinates are out, I took notice of that, used whitejaegar's updated coordinates, had a good look around but didn't see it. Three DNF in a row means good luck to whoever goes down there next Smile

22-Aug-10
Red Face We didn't even know this patch of bushland existed! Lots of erosion I guess it's a forgotten place. The recent downpours have the creek running briskly. We looked all around with one Karate Kid but had no success. Maybe another time...

14-Jun-10
We scrambled around for quite a while and didn't find this one. Must need more practice - will try again another time...

This cache has been on the to do list for nearly 3 years. The countless times we have driven past it finally got to us and we parked on Doodts Rd and walked the easy 200m to the cache.
Unlike others have reported the cache does not need another log book as all of the reverse pages are blank so just use one of those. It should last for years to come if you do that.
Thanks Wanderers for the cache. Took the Geocoin to move on.

Pretty easy to find (although I have to admit we overshot the mark at first and started looking where we THOUGHT it might be! Lesson learnt - follow the GPS coords, not your own opinion of where you think it would be hidden!Red Face)

On our way home to Bendigo with Toyah Mary. We followed the GPS having no paperwork with us and believe me, we went about it the hard way. We were parked up high and our finders climbed over the top and down a big slope while the mothers amongst us stayed at the top with the smaller 2 children. After losing sight of them we resorted to using modern technology to phone the finders and find out where they were. They had found the cache and were very pleased with themselves. The log book is full and they resorted to signing the back of the back cover. TFTC.
Left the Gizmo Geocoin.

Bit of a run-around to claim this one. First time - ran out of light. Second try, ran out of time. Third try - had plenty of time but didn't need it. Found it reasonably quickly tackling it from the other direction, having been convinced previously that it was elsewhere. TNLN. Squeezed one more signature into the logbook. It's a bit full. Obviously a popular cache. Many thanks.

Thanks for the cache Wanderers.
Found this one on a quick lap of Ballarat to get the kids out of the house for a little while.

Although it was a little boggy after recent rain we managed to park well off the freeway. Geoteen 1 headed off and into the scrub while I grabbed the GPS and backpack...by the time I was about to cross the Melbourne bound lanes Geoteen 1 emerges out of the scrub with cache in hand...talk about Geosense!!!!

Took: Bart Simpson Skateboard figure
Left: Lanyard & Plastic USA toy Police badges

I retook the coordinates as a few people seemed to be having problems with the location.

My coordinates are:

Signed the log...
Thanks again Wanderers.

Seeing where this cache lay I thought a nice early pre-dawn raid might be a good idea Smile
All went well until I neared GZ. I didn't have the benefit of the previous logs to draw upon. After a brief search it became obvious that a bit of mud was going to get involved Razz
I found the cache in the obvious spot that I had been eyeing for the last 15minutes but couldn't get to easily.
At least there was plenty of daylight now for the return leg to the bridge and geomobile parked nearby [:o)]

05-May-07
Hehe, this was no problem after reading previous logs. I came from the Melbourne bound lane and while my coordinates were 12m out, the cache was found without hassle. I saw a magpie giving a fox a hell of a time, repeatedly swooping it until the fox sought shelter in the scrub.

Thanks,

Back again for another go. After a good fifteen minutes of climbing up, down and around as we had previously done a few months ago, Geodaughter was onto it. Thank goodness. Took compass, motorbike and left two bendy pencils. It always seems obvious AFTER you find it. TFTC.

First of 20 finds on a cicumnavigation of Ballarat. Parking seemed a problem and GPS was a bit out in the trees but eventually found without drama. Thanks Wanderers

27-Dec-06
Had to leave work early, so took the chance to look for this one in the most light we have had the chance to.

This was one of the harder ones to find, once taken into account the GZ being out by approx 10-15 metres.

Only logged the visit, TNLN.

Great place for a cache. I drove that road everyday and never knew what was even there. Searched for ages and ages, climbed, searched, climbed and searched some more, all to no avail. We will return though. Thanks Wanderers for a real challenge

26-Dec-06
Search without success, we did not have a printout re the 15m off thing, so will take it with us next time.

We too found the cache to be about 10-15m NW of GZ. (after we exhausted all hidey holes at GZ). An easy find once we got there though. Dropped off a TB.

fuond after about 17 month of looking this cache was the 3rd one i ever played hide and seek with. and till now it had been winning.

thanx for the help roundcircel.

24-Sep-06
What better way to end a day meeting with other geocachers about a non-geocaching project than to go geocaching - very easily persuaded, especially when hearing the problems Roundcircle had been having.

Instead of asking "Have you looked here?" on arrival at GZ, then skipping looking there when the reply was "Yep", we could have saved 20 minutes looking everywhere else, as the Chewinprickles help line call quickly focused the search, but it was the glint off the container that exposed the cache while we were talking.

So that's my one for September... letting the local caches build back up so I can go for 300 in a month soon.

Thanks TNLN.

24-Sep-06
Finally found it. I looked up trees and down holes. Left and right. East and West. Down the bottom and up the top. To no avail. Then I was able to enlist some help from Partic. After another short search we gave a help line a call to give us a hint.

With the hint the cache was spotted straight away.

In fact the cache was hidden where I thought it should have been. And once spotted the signs were obvious. I think it was hidden about 15m NW of where my GPS said GZ was.

Great container. Everything was really dry.

TNLNSL

Thanks for the Cache

06-Aug-06
No luck with this one. Stumbled around for a while, hurt my knee etc but no good. It'll have to wait till my next visit to Ballarat..

30-Jul-06
Round & round then up and down is probably a good way of describing my experiences here!
Took a while to find a suitable approach to GZ area so spent some time driving around it. Then once I finally reached GZ (on foot!) the sat loc was terrible so I went up and down - back and forth for about 20 mins before finally locating the cache. Final GZ was out by 13m for me. However at one stage I was 50m away and GPS was saying 2m to cache!!!
That said I had heaps of fun doing this cache. Its definately a little different from most.
Took a tank, left a keyring/compass/whistle thingy to help others find there way back out of here Big Grin
Cheers, thanks for the adventure.
PS cache is still in good condition.

22-Jul-06
Searched all over the place. Others have said the co-ords are up to 15 meters off, which leaves lots of ground where it might be. Sad

Interesting site, that is quite dangerous to get too. I think the kids would be safer hunting the cache than left in the car on the freeway.

Dear Wanderers,

I logged your cache today at 5:00pm as the twentyfifth cache of thirty four on our Ballarat and Beyond Cache Bash with Dak and Embi. Yet another cache that both the others had already found on previous visits but running ahead of time on where we thought we'd be, they threw this one in as another extra for me. We had to stop the car here as we thought we'd heard a noise. It turned out just to be a cache in the bushes. I got a big hint to say I was on the wrong level before gradually circling back around for the find. Thanks for the cache.

Kind Regards,

D B-A

What do you think are the chances of bumping into another person in a remote area such as this? Well I met a very nice couple of (new) geocachers while I was searching.

I was fortunate to find the cache first!

Found at 10.30am our 1st cach for the day.

We found this one today with our "+1".
This is the second time we tried this one, so we were more prepared.

Although we parked illegally on the side of the freeway, it still felt good to clear off one of the local caches we couldn't find.

Thank goodness this one only took us 5 minutes to locate. We were on our way to Beaufort for the night and have been meaning to do this cache for some time, but have always found that it was either dark or we had spent a big day somewhere else and wanted to get home as quickly as possible. So at 5.45pm with only 30 min. daylight left, we pull off the highway directly opposite GZ. Got out of the wagon and walked straight into a chasm!. Great - now we see why it has been difficult to find in the past. GPSr was surprisingly unsure where we were, so after 3 minutes, we looked a little bit further and found the cache at 5.55pm. Even after 5 min. averaging at the cache, the GPSr showed 15 meters distance to GZ. Took: Magic puzzle, Left: marker tape.
Thanks Wanderers - we said hello as we passed the turn off to your town.

13-Nov-04
Looked around for near on 30 minutes on both sides of the creek. PLenty of rain today, and plenty of slumped ground. Unfortunately we had to head back to Mt Gambier, and so called it quits. Seems like we haven't been the only ones having trouble with it. Not to worry... we'll be back.

great spot for a cache.

on a freezing cold and wet afternoon, on the way home from halls gap, i stopped for this one.

i dived into the bushland, and headed after the cache..

3 creek crossings later, wet feet, and feeling grumpy i gave up and headed back, checking on final spot before i left... HURRAH!

Stopped by here thinking I could do a quick drive by. However I got to GZ and didn't find the cache in any of the obvious places. Also it appears a small landslip has occured right at the GZ which I suspect may have buried the cache. (see attached photos). Anyway I didn't look all that hard based on that assumption..

13-Sep-04
Attacked this one as a first attempt for the day on the way back to Adelaide.

No luck - we thought we looked in all the obvious places, but maybe we didn't.

Thanks - who'd have known there was any nice places in the middle of the road.

Out for a day of caching with the two girls J (12) and G (4), we approached this cache from the East as out third for the day.
We pulled over to the side of the road and I made a quick dash into uncharted territory. A few minutes later I left said territory and headed back to car, terribly uncomfortable with leaving the girls in the car.
We headed further West and then back East to see if there was a better vantage point from this side. Nope.
Taking note of previous logs we decided to approach via the overpass (at least then we wouldn't be parked on the side of the freeway). Crossing the barrier we headed East along the middle of the reserve, trying not to be noticed by the traffic. Once at GZ, the trees provided adequate cover, although I'm pretty sure that walking and caching along this type of area would be frowned upon by Mr. Plod if he happened by.
Quite a long time was spent at the cache site, searching, searching, searching. Nada. Up, down, nothing. East, West, nothing.
Feeling extremely frustrated at not being able to find a difficulty 1 cache and still feeling like we shoudn't be here, we were just about to pack up when I spotted a 'rubber sealing ring' lying on the ground. A few steps away (luckily I didn't go over the edge) and the cache was in hand at 1:23pm. Phew!
We took a Panda and left a Bouncy Ball and a Dinosuar.
Another cache to add to our list for the day.

07-Jul-04
I found it with just a little help from the geocacher Hotline (Maccamob), I spent quite sometime looking at the bottom of the obvious area. Then it turns out that my GPS wasn't lying to me afterall and had me literally standing on top of the cache.

TNLNSL.. thanks for the cachechase

Nice spot to stop for a wee. But use your hazards as the trucks wiz past real close. Found after a short search. Sat lock was flaky so use your instincts from the clear sky bit. I think the Astro rating could go up one a half on each category.

Thanx Wanderers. Amazing this spot exists in such tranquillity so close to the business end of Ballarat.

Clear skies

6th of 7 attempts today in the Ballarat area. Visiting from Pittsburgh, PA, USA and traveling around Victoria. Although we felt a little funny doing it, we pulled over on the M8 motorway at the appropriate spot. Fortunately the visibility was good and the traffic was very light. Crossed the road quickly and zeroed in on the cache within 5 minutes. TNLNSL. Thanks!

I got to this cache via an overpass, not from the freeway. I’m not sure whether this way was better or not. I found it after about 40 minutes of searching – the GPS continually changed where it thought ground zero was. When I finally found the cache it said that GZ was 11 metres away. In finding the cache I managed to get my foot caught while climbing up a 3 to 4 metre bank. I was within sight of the cache too. I was really scared of falling, particularly with my foot still caught, but after about 3 minutes, much loss of skin from my shin and a lot of adrenaline, I managed to get it out with my body remaining relatively intact.

TNLN

I guess I should thank the Wanderers,

Peter

Found at 14:55hr as with most before us had trouble pinpointing gz. Gave up using the GPS and relied on our instincts. Did find it was a lot easier if you come at it from the right side of the freeway.
Took magnetic picture frame left pulling strings.
Thanks

I thought I'd do this one on the way up to Creswick for Excel Yourself.

Like almost everyone before me, I had horrendous trouble getting a proper fix on the GZ.

I searched the A side of the gully to no avail, then the GPSr seemed to indicate the B side. I searched there, but still came up empty. Biggles Bear's comment led me to believe that the cache might be on the A side, but my GPSr, although erratic, pretty consistently indicated the B side. [?] I had another squizz on the A side anyway, and still came up empty--I had imagined this to be a quick, five-minute stop.

A quick call to the maccamob help line confirmed that I was indeed on the correct side of the gully. Once I knew that, I found the cache pretty quickly. Thanks David!

Found at 7:50pm after a bit of searching, as GZ was all over the place. Finally spotted when I saw the torch light reflect back off the container. Did a bit of gully hopping to get to the location of this cache. Couldn't find it. 45 mins later decided to cross the gully again and check on that side. 1229 found the cache. It was on the same side I had parked my car Red Face. Oh well good exercise I suppose. Swapped a photoframe for a lock.
Thanks so much wanderers this is my 4th for the day.

Stopping on the side of the M8 with the harzard lights on. A quick dash to GZ had me the cache in to time. That is after working out how to get across the gully. Lucky for me it is dry at the moment.
Thanks Wanderers for a strech of the legs on a long journey.
