Heading back home after a great week in Turangi and we stopped here to pick up some caches. Enjoyed the simple puzzle and we walked around - its now 25oC - to find the final. Fortunately it was a quick find, TFTC
When I first started geocaching many years ago I had a tradition of going out and grabbing a few caches on or around my birthday. Several years have gone by since I have done that traditional, so this year I have started again. Nice to explore our local area and find some new spots we haven't been too before.
Thanks to all the cache owners for these caches.
We got all the required digits and the checks all turned out. Nice find for the day

With rebel98, exploring this part of the lake.
Sadly unable to find, even with spreading out along the fence

This was a lovely straight forward calculation to work out gz.
I waited a few minutes for the rain to ease again then dashed out for a quick grab.
Thanks for setting this up

Cold but sunny day. Fast find. Cache in good order. TFTC (apologies for the delay in posting)
Soon had the numbers and all good here, a little adrift with the final though.
I was keen for this side road series of mjmnz caches, and Liv drove the car to enable me to HIHO (hop in, hop out). A fully successful trip for all searched for and a nice trip to another area of Lake Taupo never seen before.
Day 1 was getting there and catching up so left at a decent time across the Desert Road in pouring rain and wind-chill assisted chills. Managed a few finds before Liv turned up, then an easy orientation time for the first afternoon/evening.
A 3 day trip to Turangi is the plan for the weekend, but the weather is not looking likely to be all that favorable with lots of rain forecast. My youngest daughter is driving down for the weekend from Auckland to hang with Dad, so looking forward to that as I haven't seen here for a little while now. We stayed in the work's bach for the weekend and that was all good with sound amenities and a nice amount of caches were located. Also managed a soak in the Tokaanu hot pools, finished off 4 different Lab Cache series, and a couple of Geotour caches too. Thanks to all COs for their caches this weekend.

It took us some time to work out how to get to the Giant Chair to get the clues for this one. On our way home we stopped to pick this one up. It took us longer than we expected to find, we were about to give up but thanks to a previous log we looked about 10m from the coordinates.
Visited the giant chair and gathered all the info needed for this, quickly worked out the coords and headed off to the final. Took a little bit of searching to get the final as ig was a bit further along than I thought it would be. Still, nice find here. TFTC!!!
Would have thought this would qualify as a multi but I am just as happy to have a mystery cache logged today! Found and autographed! thanks for showing us Whareroa today mjmnz!
A nice quick find thanks.
Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. A lovely sunny day as we drove from Taupo to National Park today.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Nothing like a nice quick easy puzzle cache to get the brain thinking, without overly stressing it. A great spot and a fun short puzzle. TFTPC

Ran into a friend and fellow Northlander 'butchie bum' at the last cache, so we teamed up on this one.
Had to look up the hint item as I wasn't sure. Such a cool place Whareroa. TFTC

Fab views from this fab huge chair over the bay. All info collected and down to the waters ege to sort final. Well well muggled "Pooke" so after final put into gps we made an interesting find just a little out by 10 mtrs but google the plant mentioned Nice to see you twice i one day Pooke and both of us so far from home. tftc
For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 12 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more. Today I decided to go a drive down to Kuratau from Taupo as I hadn't explored this area before.
I gathered all the info required and then it was off to the final.
Cheers for the cache.

What a nice little puzzle and superb to have the checker.
We have thoroughly enjoyed letting geocaching take us on our inaugural visit to this little village and bay. Especially enjoyed the trout jumping in the stream.

This was a bonus as we almost missed it under the traditional. Lovely day for a few caches with little blue hen and China doll 47. Drove ot from turangi before the day became too hot and had a thoroughly enjoyable and successful cache hunt in an area we hadn't visited before. Apologies for the generic logs but thanks for giving us an excuse to visit the area. Tftcsl
Out with Bkj97 and Little Blue Hen caching from Turangi. Had picked the Rainbow trail as a good one to start with, then others in the Whareroa area. Sorted the information we needed and found the cache easily stamped and returned. What a fabulous place. TFTC
Nice straight forward find once we had the info. Thanks for another cache in the area.
Had grabbed the information for this cache yesterday but hadn't got around to working out the final coordinates so returned to the giant chair. Soon had some good looking coordinates and headed off to the final. Checked a couple of hiding spots before locating the cache and signing the log. Thanks for the puzzle mjmnz.
Find number 4653. After the event I called to gather the information. This done it was off to GZ where the log was signed. Thank you for the placement.
Loved the chair - would not have known about it if it wasn't for geocaching. Took a little while to locate the final as there were lots of options and GPS had us further away. tftc
The kids and I spent the weekend in Taupo. Saturday we made our way to Turangi and then further around lake to Whareroa and then back to Taupo never been this side of the lake always good going to new places. We arrived back at the Lake Taupo holiday resort after dark and went straight to the hot pools so nice after a long day. Tftc
Cool little puzzle i solved while the kids hunted for the nearby traditional and then took photos on the chair grabbed final on way out of settlement.

Once again my team mates said it all, a fabulous spot to be, soon had the required info in hand and off to the final before heading to Turangi, many thanks
On a road trip with part of Team BOP. We enjoyed this spot while getting the required info and doing the sums. Then it was off to get the final. . Thanks for bringing us to this magical area. TFTPC
On another Team BOP road trip heading to clear out some caches around Lake Taupo.
The numbers were worked out quickly and I entered the coords wrong and had the arrow pointing 8600km away!
A quick change from north, to south coords had us back on track for the quick find.

Nice little puzzle cache that was solved without any issues. I can do these ones! The calculated coordinates took me straight to GZ and a quick discovery. Log was too wet to write on, so I’ve put some dry sheets of paper in a plastic bag and popped it into the container. What a nice looking part of New Zealand this is. TFTC
We are on our inaugural shake down trip in our newly acquired camper and we decided to head down and do a trail along Kuritau Hydro Road that Mr S had spied. We started this trail yesterday but ran out of time and options on where to overnight. So we stayed at the Oasis Camp in Tokaanu and headed back out this morning. After solving the puzzle and finding GZ we spent several minutes looking for the cache. The log is a soaking wet mess. We added a bit of paper as we didn't have any log sheets with us. We also got talking to a couple who have a bach here but reside in Whangarei and we introduced them to the wonders of Geocaching. To start with they thought Mr S was an agricultural inspector looking for noxious weeds. Lol.
Thanks mjmnz.
Thanks mjmnz.
On the way home after Christmas. I took the diversion off to herre because my GPS showed a unfound solved puzzle here, but then I saw that it is actually a multi (which is why I would had marked it as solved). And now that I am here, I see there are a bunch of traditionals as well, so I may as well check them out too.
Came here fiirst, sulved the multi and found that the final is on the way out of town. So abandoned that for now and went off to do the other three traditionals here, then headed out to get the final here.
Don't want to stick around too long, it is supposed to seriously hose down later.
Addendum: Auckland got seriously wet. Rest of the country - Nope. Could have stayed longer. Oh well.

Just after checking in (airbnb) and some nice welcome talk with our host, I walked through the small village by the sea for finding some caches!
Solving the riddle was not difficult, so I managed to find the can quickly after this!
Unfortunately the log is wet.
Thanks alot and regards from Germany!

#128 Found with my mum Gr33nslime and perhaps my dad JimmyNZ. Trying the mass logging thing with GSAK hence the really general log entry!
Out this way today to do this puzzle and another around the corner. Had a great drive from where we were staying out to this little beach. I took DangerSAM over to the seat and he kept himself occupied by chatting away and playing in the grass. Gr33nslime crunched the puzzle and very shortly had the co ords in hand. Once we got to the GZ the search took a little longer than expected. Unsure if there had been a bit of migration going pn, but after looking in the likely locations the cache should have been (basically I strolled over to where the GPS lead me) and turning up with nothing, the search area was widened and eventually it was found. Some prickly gorse around the area which added a sudden surprise to the search every so often. After it was signed Gr33nslime placed it back and we were off for another cache. The view from the chair was great and the day was looking to be a stunner (lucky us). Another place I would not have visited if it was not for the caches that lead us here. Thanks for the cache and leading us to this great spot.
# 905 JimmyNZ had some time off work, and DangerSAM and myself were keen to get out of the house, so we went on a holiday to the shores of Lake Taupo from Palmerston North, and caching was to be big on the agenda!
Nothing too hard about this one, grabbed the info, learned something new, posed DangerSAM on the nearby chair for a photo. Job done.. The final was a little hard to find and wasnt in the closest hint location that the GPS was pointed. JimmyNZ looked further afield for it. We replaced it there just incase that was where it was actually supposed to be. Thanks mjmnz for the easy puzzle cache and giving us another reason to visit Whareroa.

Out and about this afternoon exploring a few spots where we have not cached previously. We collected the information we needed from the Giant's Chair and quickly calculated the final co-ordinates. Stopped by later to make the find. Thanks.
A nice little puzzle starting at an interesting and informative information panel. The cache was then a fairly quick find after a short drive, although the log was rather damp. TFTC

Turangi Mega Event NZ Day2
Today we chose to tour the east side of Lake Taupo, picking up caches as we made our way along.
What a great way to visit this very scenic area. Mountains, Lakes & Mud Pools.
Picked up the information from near the giants chair, then as we left town we found the final location.
Thanks for placing this cache mjmnz

Last full day in Turangi for the mega event visiting from Australia and it was time to go and get some caches up the west side of the lake for a bit of a numbers run. 19 finds in total for the day so not huge but still a bit of fun and great scenery.
Solved this while doing the Giants Chair one, realised it was on the way back out so left it until after I had looked for the other traditionals here. Back in New South Wales this would be listed as a multi rather than mystery, but it doesn't matter. It's a smilie.
Once at Ground Zero on the way out it was a nice easy find. Thanks mjmnz.

For our weekend of MEGA adventures we decided on a name of INT GEO as our team included cachers from USA, Fiji and Denmark with a couple of kiwis making up the balance. From the start we decided on quality not quantity but we wanted to include a mix of cache types to share with our newbie cacher.
We enjoyed two days out and about with good weather, great caches shared with a fun team.
As the kiwis in the team, we were constantly reminded of the amazing scenery that we simply take for granted as we were frequently shown examples of "trees dripping with colour", "lichens growing amongst the volcanic vomit", "picturesque lakeside bays" and "mountains of meringue"...... Thanks for all the COs for sharing with us a fabulous area of NZ.
We located the information and soon had the required numbers, quick find once at GZ TFTC.

Team IFTBNZ spending the day dodging the rain and collecting interesting / lonely caches - this was found at 11.58am. I'd also agree that this is technically a multi (as all the information is available at the first location with no pre-work needed), but a very enjoyable little solve at a picturesque spot and a quick find at the final. The provision of check sums was also welcomed - it meant we didn't need to rely on dodgy phone coverage to verify our guesses! TFTC.

Cache # 2,828 - and last cache of the day. Solved the puzzle earlier and saved the find for the end of my visit to Whareroa. Nicely done. TNLNSL. TFTC!
7.30pm - This was a quick puzzle solve and picked up cache on way out of area. SLTFTC
Another road trip with Gap (of Fap and Gap)... This adventure took us around the western edge of Lake Taupo and into Pureora Forest Park.
This was a straight forward solve on the spot. We fitted in two other caches before making this our last find for the day. It took a few minutes for the gps to determine where ground zone was. After a couple of sweeps, we had this one under control... TFTP and TFTC.

Well that's it for this area Kuratau, Omori, Pukawa and Whareroa one big tick. What a special area - thoroughly enjoyable. Cheers mjmnz.

Solved the puzzle after finding the Giant's Chair, and picked up the cache on the way to the next one. TFTC
It was great to have a puzzle cache that was uncomplicated and informative. Sort of added to the pleasure we got when going around the village. We left with positive feelings about this place. Thanks for showing us around. tftc too.
Out with Cats&Dragons confirming more details for the 2016 Mega in Turangi and Taupo this weekend, We had quite a few to target on this side of the lake, so headed this way for the rest of the afternoon, We were at the Chair and realised the puzzle would be pretty easy, so gave it a go and we soon had the cache in hand, was nice to be able to solve on location and grab whilst out and about. Thanks for setting up and placing. TFTC

Had headed south to Turangi with YorkshireKiwi83 to carry out a spot more planning for the NZ MEGA 2016 and an early start (much earlier for her). We had had our meetings for the day so decided to grab a few of the caches over this side of the lake before making plans for where we were to stay that evening. A very nice drive in here and the settlement is much bigger than I had thought, quite peaceful and relaxing. This was our last find here. Solving the puzzle was quicker than the find as we both seemed to have gone momentarily into cacher blindness of the obvious but got there in the end and it was very quickly in hand. Only one muggle about but not to close
Thanks for bringing us here and Thanks for the placement

The cache owner may like to check the question for B. As it currently stands, it does not appear to lead to the right answer.
#6061. We went to explore the south-western shores of Lake Taupo for an afternoon drive today. A stop in Whareroa to enjoy the location and to admire the views. Like others before us, we initially had trouble with our ABCs, but soon got sorted with the helpful check sums and previous logs. Found after a short search … just as well, as it got a bit too hot in the car today. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for the cache.
A beautiful and picturesque place..love it!Another visit to find a cache..great!Had a little bit of bother sorting out the south co-ords..but got it sorted and had cache in hand. Thanks for bringing us here!TFTC!
Collecting a few of the local caches while in the area with tmann421.
Quick solve on the puzzle but final didn't look quite right. Read back over previous logs, tweaked slightly and cache quickly found at final location. TFTC

Was meant to get a early start and get a full days caching in but had a bit of a lie in and didn't get out the door till mid morning. Managed to find all that I wanted and ended up with 22 caches for the day. Had fallen in love with the area once the day was done, thanks to all the cache owners for placing the caches and bringing me here.
Had some difficulty like others with the south check sum not working, but read the logs and soon figured the mistake with B. No troubles locating the cache.

Had a wee bit of trouble with 'B' clue but figured it out eventually. Found with Taupo Tiger on a great day out round the lake. TFTC
We initially had the wrong answer for B based on the wording of the question, reworked our calculations using the Check sum and bingo, we soon had the cache located. Many thanks for an interesting puzzle.
An interesting place to start the puzzle, we had no idea this was hidden away up the walkway. A quick check on the answers and we were off to make a quick find. Just managed to time it right and avoid another rain shower. Thanks for a fun puzzle. TFTC.
