Amazing bridge here but cache remained elusive. Arranged a replacement. Cheers
Its Friday - day Seven -Kaitaia area with The Seagnoid and Zara today. Toby and William at Motor Doctors again!
Its another epic 4 week geocaching adventure with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and Willam to the Far North. What an amazing place to explore. Lots of walks, gravel roads and sand. Lots of amazing trees, beaches and interesting POIs. Lots of kilometers traveled by vehicle and foot. Vehicle breakdowns, making new friends and catching up with old friends and family. Snagged a couple of FTF's, lots of lonely caches and the odd event along the way. Lots of cache maintenance and replaced caches on this trip. But what an incredible adventure!!. Thanks to all the CO's who have made this trip so memorable..

As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

What a great little picnic spot! Couldn't find the cache, but the hide location is obvious so we put in a replacement. Alas, that was the very same day it was archived!
Day eight of an awesome, tiring, long, three week holiday geocaching with Taybeedragon in the upper north. Hokianga to t he big trees. The whole trip comprised of hours of walking on sand, sliding down sand dunes, hundreds of kilometres of unsealed roads, car breakdowns, paddling out to islands, dolphins, goats, events, FTFs, weird boulders. You name it, we saw it. Lots of bisons, lots of cache maintenance, lots of sunscreen. A month is enough. I am glad to be back home. Except that now I have to write up my trip. We averaged just 20 caches per day, but that is still a lot of logging!
Merry Christmas from the Seagnoid!

Out for a days caching in the area - Got to GZ and had a good hunt around but came up with nothing. Noted this cache has not been found since 2016. Maybe well and truly missing.
This geocacher reported that this geocache should be archived. A community volunteer reviewer has been notified.
Out on a mission today, to collect as many caches as possible toward the Hidden Creatures souvenirs. With very few unfound local caches, a decent journey was required. Left at dawn and covered over 300km through the winding gravel back roads of Northland, passing through Twin Bridges, Donnelley's Crossing, Waipoua forest, Omapere, Opononi and Taheke, before the heavy rain finally set in. This heavy rain, combined with the sunset, put a halt to further searching, so had to settle in the end for 29 finds and 7 DNFs for the day.
Third stop for the day was here, but unfortunately, as per other logs over the last two years, no cache was found. Maybe with the amount of rubbish around, it may have been picked up by someone trying to clean up the area. Nice river views though. Thx anyway.

Staying in Paihia for a few days; set off today on a whistle-stop tour- to Dargaville, the Kauri Coast & the Hokianga.
This was my 1st stop & unfortunately a DNF for me, too.

needs a cito here so much rubbish also need a long drop soo much toilet paper and logs yuck yuck yuck didnt wanna sign any of them
This took some time to find not where we thought it would be . Co-ords pretty accurate soon had the cache in our hands, signed and replaced. TFTC
I am unashamadley after numbers at the moment so a trip to Northland with Vistra was planned, Saturday up to the Cape staying in Kaitaia then heading to Paihia for a late lunch event. I drove up from Auckland on Saturday morning in the dark to meet Vistra at first light in Whangarei, from there we made our way straight the start of a wee mini powertrail.
We found this one after scrambling up the hill, found an easier way back down, we also found a TB in here as well.

I teamed up with yorkshirekiwi83 for a weekend of caching around Northland. After meeting early in Whangarei, we then drove to Kaikohe via Mangakahia road. This was our first cache of the day and was quickly found after climbing the slope to GZ. A pleasant spot, TFTC!

I was staying with friends just down the Mangakahia road and this was the first cache for the day, lovely picnic area and nice spot for us to see where the old bridge used to be.
Kalarini found her first trackable yesterday and dropped it in here it wanted to be near water, best place to put it. We stopped before we visited our loved ones at the marae.
#359 Cache was out in the open on the side if the hill. Replaced at beacon. Good location for a CITO. TFT(rest stop)C.
I've been over this bridge many times. It's an interesting structure. Good place for the cache - should be safe here. Lots of cool swapables in it. TFTC

Coords lead us to the cache and old bridge. Neat swag . Great picnic spot. TFTC.
I've never quite seen a bridge like this before .....interesting. Plenty of small trinkets for the kids in this cache if someone is venturing in this direction.
Yeay Found number 116
Yes, it is still here. After all the flooding, it is still here.
In good condition.
on our way to Manganui for lunch. TFTC
Why do so many people go toilet near geocaches??? It has got to be the down side of this hobby!!!!!

Out caching despite this entirely horrible weather we're having. We're not often up this way, so we're making the most of it.

Nice wee cache while on a mission to whangarei. River running very fast after all the recent rain.
Odd, the last log shown on my GPS was not your update, but a DNF... but luckily the correct coords were loaded & took me straight to the cache & easy as it was in plain view so hope it doesn't get muggled. Added a coin from Utah & placed some natural camo atop. TFTC
Such a shame numerous lazy people can't be bothered to go in a better spot or at least bury their poos,[xx(] making the lovely grove of trees by the river a hazardous place to tread!

Coordinates changed to:
S 35° 37.424 E 173° 50.702
Distance from original: 70.7 feet or 21.5 meters.
Finally! Got my first visit up here again and checked things out.
Unfortunately, the cache must be washed away, or buried under a lot of debris...
And considering that the debris in the tree's branches were 2 meters higher than the cache was, I figured that it would be a better idea and long term investment to place a new cache in a higher location, to avoid underestimating the river wraith again, so new co-ordinates and a new cache with SWAG again.
Happy hunting again!

No luck today. A big flood went through the area a few days back and the water was at least a couple of metre above the base of the tree. I,m guessing the cache may have been wash away.
This is my third and final day up north picking up a few caches in the more out of the way places along with some others on the way to there.
I remember coming to this location back in the middle '60s to measure flood flows. A very unusual bridge.
Cheers for the cache.

A bunch of caches unfound up north? ROAD TRIP! Left Auckland early evening with funkymunkyzone and rosmar to make some finds!
As we approached GZ the relevance to the title quickly became clear. The weather was much more mild than what we expected and we made a quick and easy find of the cache. Joint (FTF) with funkymunkyzone and rosmar!
Thanks!

We received a message from FMZ wanting to know if we were keen to join him and Slieschke on a FTF road trip up North. With a positive response we were collected at 6.30 pm and after an eventful road trip returned home at 5.00am just in time to head off to work [|)]. This was our 1st cache find and a joint FTF with funkymunkyzone and Slieschke. Quick find. The cache name was appropriate for the location. TFTC.
Saw a bunch of new unfound caches up north, so got together with slieschke and rosmar and arranged a bit of a raid tonight. We left Auckland around 6:30pm and headed north, home by just after 5am. This was the first cache find, and the first FTF of the evening. A curious little spot and the reason for the name was quickly apparent. Joint FTF with slieschke and rosmar. {FTF} #1515 TFTC!!!
