Very tight track, caused a bit of minor damage to the big cruiser. That aside it is a beautiful place, would love to come back and kayak up there. TFTC Smile

Of all the Aussie explorers, I reckon two stand out Smile
Kennedy and Eyre Big Grin
Both took on the toughest bits of Oz !!

Unfortunately, like Eyre's companion, Baxter ... Kennedy met with a similar fate [:o]

Eyre was obviously a tough olde dog !!
I have spent the last month retracing his steps,
reading his journals,
and enjoying the 'inhospitable' countryside he described so wonderfully Razz
Yep !! The crossing from Fowlers Bay to Albany would have been tough, tough, tough !!

A few camels instead of pack horses might have been useful !!
One wonders why Eyre never bothered with them Red Face

Like an explorer of olde, I encountered me own difficulties in reach my caching goal today.
I first tried the overland, on foot approach to reach GZ from the mouth of the river Smile
I got 2/3rds of the way before the muddy track I was strolling along, beside the inlet, came to a halt under a SWER line Smile

I wandered off through the scrub in the hope of still reaching GZ by that route.
But was beaten back by impenetrable scrub [:o]
Time to regroup back at the geomobile !!

A short drive along the track back toward the campground revealed a possible way in to GZ.
Past a 'shed' of sorts and a "No Camping, Private Property" sign, and by and by to the side of the river Smile
What a wonderful riverside location Smile

Spoiled only by the plastic 'bait bags' that typically environmentally aware fisher-types leave around their fishing spots Twisted

Another beautiful day down in the Great Southern. Today we headed eastwards, again chasing down more WA Explorers. I had never been to Cape Riche before but will definitely be returning another time to explore some more. It is such a peaceful little spot on the southern coast - a place to just chill.

Enjoyed navigating our way out to gz, and loved the location beside the river - totally unexpected. Ralph Fine Dog enjoyed sniffing around too.

Thanks for the cache Jaydreams

This is a nice spot to visit nowadays but it would have been an extremely welcome location to Eyre after his perilous desert crossing. Thanks Jaydreams for bringing us out here and for being part of the explorer series

TFTC! Found on a day out around Albany to knock off as many explorer series caches as possible. Was a nice drive to the cache, which was my third for the day. Collected the number and moved on. My 2wd made light work of the track I picked

Magic location near the river. Initially tried walking in, but discovered after a km that I was on the wrong track and it proved to be a dead end. Tried approaching from another angle, and without too much bush-bashing was just able to get our 2WD very close to GZ, and made the find quickly. Great spot! TFTC Jaydreams.

Took Geo-Mickey and Geo-Joey (now named GI-1) for a drive as Geo daughter needed to get some hours up on her driving. So a trip out here was on the cards and WOW. What a great little spot on the river. We arrived at Cape Richie, found the 4WD track and followed it in. After negotiating some small puddles (all good for the driving experience for Goe Mickey) we came down to to river and then walked in the last few meters to GZ. An easy find at an awsome spot. A few fishing rods would be on the cards next time we venture out this way Smile
While driving in I read the cache information and it is truely amazing how these earlie explorers traversed the country, no roads, no tracks - and with sheep in the early part of the trip.
Anyway a great history lesson and thanks for the cache and series. A favourite point from us.

Thanks for the cache a truly lovely area.

Had the day off so went east today to clean up some more caches from the map.

Wasnt sure what to expect with the 4wd in bit with the Forester but was happy to see it was hard packed track and the car had the clearance to make it through to s pot about 100 meters short of GZ.

Hopped out of the car and legged it in. GPS was playing games with me today and so it took a little while to find the cache in the usual spot.

TFTC and your contribution to the series Jaydreams. Lovely place.

Happy Wanderer is on a roll 2nd FTF way to go.

14-Jun-14
By The time we arrive the chill is out of the air whilst the sun is bright and warming us up. A short walk in to GZ before a quick hunt around for the cache. Another FTF for the day and the WA Explorers series. Great to be back at one of my favourite locations along this coastline. Thanks Jaydreams for being part of this series.
