Im trying to fill in gaps on my Jasmer, and this cache ticks a box. Today I was driving from Mittagong to Sydney and planned to find this cache. I had not done any research on the area, so I was following my instincts a bit. Google maps took me to a place that seemed to be on the wrong side of the river. Luckily, I saw a sign that said something about Mermaid Pool and Potholes 1.6km back in the other direction. So I drove back and parked there. I followed a track under the bridge and found arrows painted on the rocks with directions to Mermaid Pool! In the absence of any other guidelines, I followed these. Gosh, this was a glorious walk! The Spring wildflowers were all in bloom. The native birds were in full song. The reptiles were out sunning themselves (lizards, no snakes). I was enjoying walking along the river when I realised that I was not going to be able to for much longer. I started walking up the rocks and soon found more painted arrows on the rocks! Needless to say, I made it to GZ, located the cache, took photos with the trackable items that Ive been taking around, and walked back to the car. The whole walk took about 1.5 hours, and I loved every minute of it. It was such a treat to find such an old cache, too! The whole experience gets a fave point from me

I was walking part of this track to visit the pools today as they're beautiful after rain and I've been meaning to log GC9FAVE here for ages. So I thought I'd get the view from the lookout and check in on this historic cache. Everything's in great shape here, as you'd expect with a container like this which will likely outlast many players of the game.

Found during beautifull sunny afternoon, after a quick bath in the Mermaid Pool. The water was quite cold, but I enjoy it. Nice walk up from the bottom using the ladder and rope.

SueDan83, Meritonnn and I made the raiding party on The Wollodilly Werewolf. After that wonderful victory, we decided to keep going and grab the other caches out along this track.

What a fantastic spot for a cache... the views are awesome, fantastic, amazing and all the other adjectives needed to describe this view. We started looking at various levels but Meritonnn spied it from afar and just needed a bit of guidance to spot it again when at GZ. So glad this wonderful old cache is still going strong. Definitely FP from me. Thanks

Apologies for the late log.

SueDan83, HappyUke and I made plans to meet up in Tahmoor today for some geo-adventures through the Tahmoor Canyon! It was my first time along these trails and wow... what an incredible spot! How lucky are we to have this place on our back door step! An awesome day was had in great company!

Ahh finally! I've been wanting to tick off a Tangles cache for a long time! Not many left in play these days. Got to hand it to you, you certainly knew how to pick a good spot! Amazing views here! Whilst previous finder SD83 stood back and watched, HU and I got down to work, trying to locate this cache. As I hunted around, I just happened to look in the right direction and spotted this from below. But bizzarely, as I climbed up and towards the cache, I lost sight of it again! Thankfully as I got closer I managed to work out where it's hidey hole was - it is tucked in beautifully! So awesome to see the original Tangles logo on the container and original log book... So cool. Thanks Tangles, wherever you are these days!

Find #1500.Doing the usual “exercise” with a previous finder Gotcha16(10 years ago). Found one track and took it up there. Several visitors passed by along the way. A short search and a find with comments added. Gotcha 16 found his comments from 2010. On way back where the uptrack meets the river track a young lady was found nursing an injured ankle. Her friend who was above was phoning an ambulance, she way okay, luckily only 200 metres from the start. Ambulance and fire trucks were arriving as we got back to the car. TFTC

My first Tangles cache! Hopefully not my last, but there's only three left so who knows.

After completing the nearby Wherigo I thought I'd do a more straightforward bushwalk for some traditionals and this was the first. It only took a moment to spot the classic geocache hide but it took half an hour to finish looking through the assortment of contents, read and write in the old-school logbook. I tipped out the sand and mulch as well as removing a few items that hadn't survived the ravages of time. And one that had - did anyone want that classical music CD? I think I'll listen to it on the way home.

Glad to see a historic cache surviving well in a historic and beautiful location.

Today is a big day for Littl3Vix and I, its the day she will get her 200th (we know exactly where we are going ) and also just cause general geo trouble in the Southern Highlands, which is almost untouched by us, because plans have always fallen through until now. We have been planning this one a little while, and when plans kept falling through, Littl3Vix set it for her 200th and here we are. Such a lovely day to get out, and the hike down to the pools and up to the cache was well worth it for the gorgeous views, although, I'm sure we lost the little blue flags more than once thank you Tangles for bringing us to this beautiful place I may not have visited otherwise.

So today is the day, I am finally going to get my 200th. Both Mizcupcake and I have been planning a run down the Southern Highlands for some time but plans had always fell through. Finally making our way back and getting a nice and early start, the sunshine in Spring makes for a great day. Eyeing off this cache by Tangles, i made it my mission! This is the 4th cache for rhe day and my 200th! An amazing walk through bargo along the track past the mermaid pools. It was getting a little overgrown and I think we lost the track once or twice but got there in the end. Gorgeous views with Mizcupcake. Totally worth the hike. Cache from 2002 and still in great condition to this day. TFTC!

OCW MrD today, and this was his target cache. And we weren't disappointed at all. Somehow we missed it when doing the Werewolf Wherigo awhile back, so knew where to park and followed the path in.

The views were amazing from up high and the pools below were inviting - but not in the middle of Winter! The trail in was easily found, with ribbons and painted arrows clearly marking the way.

At GZ, we found the prize quickly. Another old one for the day. Worth a FP of course. TFTC

Was looking over my stats the other day, and for some reason got a huge hankering to find an old Tangles cache - this one seemed the closest, though I couldn't for the life of my think why we didn't do it when doing the nearby Wherigo.

So we headed off along a familiar trail - wow that Mermaid Pool is seriously beautiful - knew the location wouldn't dissapoint.

Happy to say all is in good condition, though the blender seems to be missing. No mango smoothie today.

#6194 (3 of 6 today)

Decided to head south for some finds again, but rather than target the trails further south, decided to return to Tahmoor. Decided to start with some multis - need to get those finds up a bit. And thought I'd re-try a WhereIGo I'd died completing a while ago. [xx(]

Got six in the end, and worked out I needed to approach a multi from a different direction.
###END OF CUT AND CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
So I was in the area after the odd mythical creature and realised I wasn't too far from this one. And it's by the just as mythical / famous / infamous (?) **Tangles**. Not many of his caches still in play, and I have none of them. And this one is from 2002!

An easy, pleasant walk and a simple find once at GZ. Cache in top condition, too.
Completed signing duties and replaced.

Gets a favourite as a piece of geocaching history. Not to mention the walk.
Pity the sun is racing to the horizon - at GZ it's already down behind the ridge, so no time to go further for the other two caches on the trail, unfortunately.
Now where is that werewolf?

Found at 1227.
This was not a regular cache. Well, the size is regular, but there are other attributes of this cache that make it very special.
Firstly, it's in a beautiful location, with amazing views.
Second, it's more than sixteen years old now!
Third, the original log book is still in good condition, and getting full of stories and comments.
I was out caching with TikvaNZ and Fox in Jox. I beat them to this cache by a few minutes. I used the short waiting time to enjoy the surrounding area.
Thanks Tangles!

An hour out of Sydney we went hiking around Mermaid pool and Tahmoor Canyon. Starting at the car park it was 6 hours of beautiful scenery, walking along the Bargo river, rock scrambling on its river bed and walking high up along the cliff ridges. We stopped quite a few times for tea and sangers, or just to enjoy the beautiful views.

As a bonus there were 4 caches along the trail which of course we had to have a go at!

What a great place this is, early in season there were no screaming kids so we enjoyed the amazing views in silence, listening to the birds and the soothing sound of the waterfall. After spending some time around Mermaid pool we continued our hike up to the cache. From the cache location we had another last view of this truly beautiful place.

Thanks for the cache Tangles! Worth a favourite.

Lovely walk with the dogs. Quite a populated area. Thought we were in the wrong spot at first as the GPS looked like it was pointing off the cliff, but venturing down, the cliff edge was further than we thought. Found the cache shortly after. Great spot with an equally great view. Was excited to find an original Tangles cache. Left our trackable inside to mark the occasion. Had lunch on the cliff side and watched some very crazy people jump off the rocks into mermaid pond. Quite an entertaining show. Thanks for the cache and for bringing us to the area Smile

Found at 1:00pm with Nush89.

The Geo-Squeeze and I were on a day trip down to the Southern Highlands, we came for just a bit of a look around but also to notch up a handful of caches. I've had my eye on a couple down this way but I've never had the opportunity to get there until now.

We began our journey just outside of the town centre of Tahmoor, we then had a bite to eat after a gruelling caching adventure through some bushland and then it was onto Bowral before we finished our driving journey at Fitzroy Falls which was very picturesque. In total we ended up with a tally of five finds.

'Mermaid' was our first find for the day and it would have to be our favourite of the day. We managed to find the entry point onto the trail but I was slightly misinformed by my own reading that it was only a 400m walk from there, as it turns out it was closer to 1.2km. Oh well, still worth it. At first we couldn't quite get a hold of the trail but soon found our way.

We came across a few creatures along the way - to summarise - no snakes but plenty of lizards/skinks, a handful of spiders but not a huge amount and ONE BIG IGUANA who was the size of a house. But seriously, this thing was about 1 metre in length, he ran up a tree just as we were approaching him, his hands/claws were absolutely huge, probably the same size as mine.

He opted to let me keep my wallet which was nice, I would've given it up for sure.

Soon after we found our way to the waterhole which was incredible. I had never seen anything like it and it's fair to say that the photo's attached to the cache page didn't do it justice. We spent some time admiring the natural beauty of the area while also regretting not bringing bathers.

After we took in the sights we headed on up to the cache, we had to backtrack a little to find an accessible path to get back on the trail and therefore up to GZ but we got there eventually. Once we got near GZ it was a short walk off the trail and down to a few rock formations where we began our search for the cache.

Nush89 used her instinct and experience to spot the cache which was nicely concealed. After signing the log and exploring the contents we mapped out our return journey. At one point we deviated from the trail accidentally but soon corrected ourselves.

Loved this adventure and I would recommend it to other cachers. A great spot to visit indeed, signed log, TNLN, thanks for the cache Tangles.

A favourite point awarded for the awesome location, not to mention an old-school cache ticked off the list, always good to notch up.

Was a bit worried about finding the right track after reading some of the previous logs but the tracks was clear enough and there were enough markers along the way.
A lovely walk in. Spent a bit of time around the jumping off spot (didn't go for a swim!) before remembering I was there to find a cache.
Headed back up and further along the track to GZ. Great views from here! Made the nice-sized find easily. Took nothing, left a few CDs/DVDs.
Awarding a favourite point.

#3,523

We came to this area for the new wherigo cache, but had an added inducement of an older cache with lots of favourite points. I'm a self confessed souvenir whore, so that made this cache just perfect.

I've never been down this way before, so had no idea that there was a spectacular looking waterfall here. It might be good to return in summer to try the pool.

It was getting late in the day as we made it to GZ, so we were happy to make this one a quick find. Always good to find a large ammo can. We considered the other caches further down the track, but decided it would be better to return for them another day.

Thanks Smile

I found this cache with Canary and Toriaz. It was getting late in the afternoon, so it was the only cache we had time for on this ridge after having spent some time with a clunky Wherigo cartridge in the area. Canary suggested this cache because of its age and its favourite points - an attraction since both Canary and Toriaz wanted to earn a souvenir associated with caches scoring over ten favourites. It didn't take us too long before the track turned the creek on our left into a magnificent gorge. A pretty impressive location that I never knew about. It was only the work of a few seconds to locate the cache too. Canary's log doesn't really convey the satisfaction he gets from doing caches like this. He was pretty impressed, both by the location and the thought that he was in his twenties when this cache was published. Unfortunately, I couldn't say the same - I mean the age thing.

Thanks for a great cache. A favourite from me, too.

This was only 300 or so metres from where we were camping. Unfortunately we were hindered by quite a large gorge. So down into the valley and back up the other side. After getting to the opposite ridge it was an easy walk to get to GZ

Cache was found easily by the geo scouts from 2nd castle hill and 2nd baulkham hills.

By crikey this one was tough!!

Followed the directions of one of the logs, and go to the parking spot.

From here, parked the car, geared up, and passed by some school kids doing river testing.

Proceeded on the trail along the river, which quickly became tricky and almost impassable at points. Lots of plants growing over the path, lots of logs and rocks to climb up, over and across.

Eventually made it through, although we lost the trail a few times. Arrived at the huge pool, which was fantastic. Some of the rock formations are just awesome, as is the waterfall. We were still 200 metres from the cache, and we weren't keen to jump, so we looked around for any ideas.

There was a very tough path upwards, more along the lines of rock climbing, so we took it. Climbed up to the top, and mucked around near the cliff edge for a while until we finally found a trail again.

Followed this until we were under a few metres, checked previous pictures, and had the cache within a couple of minutes. It was great to see that the cache has been here since 2002, with the same original log book, and is still going strong!

We were thinking the cache would be at the bottom, so we were happy to find that it was actually at the top.

The way out was a big problem. We followed the trail to the best of our ability, and tried to go for another nearby cache, but got hopelessly lost in the process. Came across a snake and plenty of spiders, but no trail. Had to walk through heavy bush for ages, both along the river, and through the burnt part, until finally we found a power pole. This was near a rock trail, so we followed that and made it back to a path near the river. Followed this again and saw a road in the distance. A final bit of bush bashing and we made it onto the road, although covered in dirt. Had to clean up before getting back into the car.

Much more difficult coming back than going to the cache.

Easily worthy of a favourite for the challenge, the fun, and the awesome final location. And it's my cache 900!

Thanks for the cache!

Found with my daughter and a friend, whilst on a walk around Mermaid Pools. Lovely spot for a swim but wasn't sure of the way down to the pool, except for a long jump. Getting out isn't easy either.

Walked along further and then down to the canyon and small waterfalls and pools. all very impressive.

After getting the last cache in the Macarthur Panther series I was in the mood for some more bush caches. Llama_boy had told me about this spot just a few days ago so I couldn't help but go see it for myself. I thought after Macarthur Panther this was going to be a walk in the park! Not so. The recent rains meant we had to get our feet wet.

I'm excited to say I've now found a Tangles cache. And what a view! This is totally a hidden gem of the Southern Highlands.

A longer and harder walk than I expected. For others, stay to the right of any forks in the track, that will save you doing what I did and adding extra scrambling to the walk. I must admit the pool is an amazing sight, even with a small amount of flow such as today.

A great pity we lost Tangles to geocaching, he was a legend...

Set out today with Daibokux and former muggle Redmond Barry to find this one and "To Maldon and Beyond" nearby. I recommend anyone concerned about finding the starting point of this walk to follow the instructions in the other cache's description - namely to go down Rockford Rd from Tahmoor, then after the big bridge turn right into Charlie's Point Rd then immediately right into a little dirt track road. We parked as far along there as we could drive then headed on foot under the bridge and along the river. We turned uphill at the diesel engine and joined the top track, then headed back down again towards the "See-Through Pool". This meant a bit of a scramble/bushbash required to find our way along the riverbank back to the path again but soon enough it opened out and we could follow the trail to the pool. This left us 100-and-something metres from GZ but we followed a path of sorts up the face of the canyon to the trail to GZ where Daibokux made the find. Great views of the pool here, the colours and reflected light on the rock wall are amazing. Took a few photos, took the TB and left a pathtag then considered our options to approach the next cache. Great walk, TFTC!

I was in the area heading to a nearby cache when I remembered this cache and the escapades of the owner, using modern technology I dug out the coords and decided to stop by.

It's been 10 years and 2 months since I'd previously visited this cache and its great to see it still going strong. I sat and admired the view as I signed the log and reminisced of the c.o and his mango smoothies.

Did this cache while staying at the scout camp at the Mermaid pools. I loved the view from the cache and this type of cache fit into my criteria of favorites. So a favorite point from us.

Geocaching has changed a lot since I started many moons ago. But rather than bemoan the rise of micros (or worse still nanos), I've decided to concentrate on quality hides that bring me back to what I enjoyed about the hobby when I first started. So it didn't take long for me to find one to start off the year in style - a geocache from Tangles.

I coerced Webby into joining me for what was a relatively easy walk through the bush. We did at one stage lose the path, but it was quickly relocated. The views just before GZ were spectacular. We spent 15 minutes snapping photos and taking it all in. Webby even managed to post a stitched panorama on Facebook there and then. By the time we returned back to the car, fellow geocachers were commenting on how good it looked.

Once at GZ we soon spotted the cache and read through the old logs, when people wrote more than their name or TFTC.

With the duties down we continued along the path to trace our way parallel with the canyon. A fantastic cache that reminded me of what I love about this hobby. Cheers Tangles.

Ahhh, my second trip down to these parts in 7 days, why am I driving nearly 100km's just to find caches? Because I can.

SpinDoc was unable to join us the previous weekend for our trip down these parts so he suggested another drive to these southern parts for a wander.

Last weekend, I managed just 2 caches on the day, today, 4, but that's quite ok with me considering the caches we did, the locations we visited and the vistas we beheld.

We started off with this now next to ancient cache in Geocaching years, at one point we were crossing a rocky creek and followed one track which turned out to be incorrect, a quick bash and the main track was soon found. The river sure is spectacular in these here parts.

Then we arrived on the edge of a great bowl with a superb waterfall. No fences here kiddies and the risk of certain injury is high, so stay back from the edges, being ignorant of death, I did not and managed to get some nice shots. I gazed down into the bowl, which so reminds me of the classic shots you see of these sorts of locations from the Northern Territory and wondered how, without bringing ropes and metal bits, does one get down to the floor? I'm thinking a long walk.

So we left our vantage point and continued to yet another where a cache made from metal was found, no, not a $%^&$%# eclipse tin, but a real metal cache, a 50 cal ammo box! The history of names and real logs within the lob book shows once again that the few people have made the minor effort to visit this just amazing location. Their loss!!

With caching duties done, we we-joined the track and continued into the warm day around to a nearby cache that was frustrating to say the least to find.

I'll come back one day and find a way into the bowl, bringing my spherical panorama rig with me and shoot the view from the bottom.

Cheers
