#11103. Having established which tree to climb (thanks KB!) we decided to have a crack at this one today. The first move is the crux of the climb. If the ground had been level I would have used our emergency step ladder (the chilly bin). Getting up the the first branch involved bracing of bare skin against rough bark, and a fair bit of struggling, but I got there in the end. Getting to the cache was pretty easy after that. Signing a log while up a tree is always tricky (could do with one extra limb, maybe two) but after some careful manoeuvres the log book was signed and the cache was back in place. TFTC.

Spent the morning finding a few caches around Onerahi then headed to Kamo for another go at the wherigo we failed to find the other day. We were keen to keep as much as possible in the shade on another warm and muggy Northland day.
At a chance meeting with Kanoeboy yesterday, he confirmed which tree was required, so StreetWalker decided to give it a go today. He ascended the first metre or so very inelegantly, and I wished I had a camera handy. But after that it was pretty easy going. TFTC.

#583 12:15 pm I decided it was time to forgo my respect for gravity and attempt this cache. I took my oldest along to observe from the ground with mummy on speed dial in case I got in to trouble. The first step is tricky but then every bit of the way up was for a middle aged man who enjoys terra firma. Got to the cache. Oh no... The lid is stuck. It would add to the challenge if the lid or I drop in the process. I needed both hands. Whew! Got the lid off. Now to extract the log. It is not coming out! I can't really use Newton's 1st law to get it out unless I want to climb down to retrieve it, sign it and climb back up. I try to use the rubber grip on my pen to twist it out. Oops ... There goes my pen and the log is no closer to getting out. It is time to put the lid back on and time a controlled descent as my nerves could not take anymore. Cache found but log unsigned. Once on the ground I took my phone from &Co to take pictures to prove its location to CO if required. Difficulty and terrain ratings accurate. TFT(nerve testing)C.

We stopped by but decided not to take this to the next level. Now if it had been rated 3.5 / 5.0 (which is missing from my D / T grid, I may have insisted StreetWalker have a go Wink.

Golly, thankfully the rock climbing skills were still functioning Big Grin the first step is the hardest. Just out at the gypsy fair and thought would take the opportunity to see what is around. Thankfully not too many like that one TFTC

well that was fun Smile gps took me in between a few likely spots, so went for the most likely (well most achievable.... still tricky to get past that first bit). TFTC

Well after 3 attempts we are stumped. Climbed a few things and a few times, one looking more likely, but just not happening & unfortunately have to admit defeat.

A great cache and a hell of a lot of fun. The first step is the hardest. TFTC

You stumped us on this one, Husbands phone is not as precise as mine and couldn't find the start. Also didn't fancy a climb up everything in sight. Getting to old! LOL Thanks for the challenge though. You have kept us busy today.
