In this area for a conference today. Came out looking for orchids and found what I came to see. Then looked for a cache close by to do before going back to town. The Christmas trees are stunning. They seem early this year. Tftc
Yay can finally check this one off my list!! Have had this one saved for the longest time to find and luckily today I finished working in Albany earlier than I imagined, so I headed straight for this cache. Unreal views of the water here, thanks for maintaining and placing a cache here!Day 17 - TFTC
Great to find another oldie. Was relatively easy to spot even with the new growth Thank you for maintaining the first geocache in WA. Greetings from Adelaide TFTC
Thanks Lyn Pat & Nathan, for keeping this 1st WA geocache going. Easy find after fires. All in pristine condition. Stage 2 of our WA wandering from NSW.
Ticked a first ever cache off my list. Favourite Point due to being the first in WA, and such a beautiful place. TFTC
15/10/24 found it while on a 3mth working holiday with Defcon_6 a easy cache to locate given the recent fires - how pretty are the trees with the new growth! TFTC
Kyms Adventure and I are on a WA campervan trip working holiday and nabbing some caches on the way Cache Experience: Wow what a beautiful area this is and the surrounding beaches! I believe this is the oldest dated cache I have ever found and it was only by chance that I looked at the map and realised it was! Quick stroll from the carpark and up to GZ then Kym said There it is!! Pretty quickly so signed off on the cache and left our cards Cache Condition: Excellent This is cache number:50917:38TFTC!!!
Its fantastic to be able to find and log WAs first cache today. This was on my 'must do' list while in Albany and happy to sign the log.
A great find for the geokids while on a lovely hike littered with orchids. TFTC
I came over to WA last year for WAGB 23 and had such a great time so I decided to come back over again for this years events in Augusta. So after all of the planning with dates worked out my work decided that I could only have one week off so flying over was my only option. So I flew into to Perth and my first stop will be Busselton for 2 nights. It has been 47 years since I was in this part of WA and Im really looking forward to the re visit.Im making my way down the coast and picking out caches that look interesting to me.After spending a bit of time in Bunbury it was back to the Geo Rent a Car to continue along the coast and I then made it to Busselton.Day 5 of the trip. After caching around Busselton, Dunsbourgh and Cape Naturaliste I reached Albany for 3 nights.Caught up with Roaming Howie again last night and another plan was hatched to head south this time around Frenchmans Bay then to do the challenge series up north and of course any other ones that we come across. Now this cache is the main reason for coming down this way, yes there are other caches around here but how could you go past WAs first.I have done the first cache in all states except QLD And NT now.Shame about the arson but the bush has a way of bouncing back after a fire.Things can be replaced and the bush will grow back.A fav for bringing me down this way. Thanks Lyn Pat and Nathan TFTC.
#5742 Travelling from NE Victoria this was a great cache of significance to collect on our adventures. Found late in the arvo, we would have loved more time to visit the nearby old whaling station. However we did find time to walk about 1 km up the track past the cache to a good view point over the bay and back towards Albany. All good here amongst the fairly recently burnt landscape. TFTC Lyn Pat and Nathan.
This is our 600th milestone!! We saved it for 600. So fun to sign WAs first cache! This cache was placed 3 days prior to the date we got married!! We hadnt heard of geocaching yet, but interesting to enough met on a salmon fishing trip in Monterey California. Grabbed this along our holiday trip! Tftc!!
Find number 13793 at 6:47:41AM on Saturday the 7 September 2024We're on our way to WA Goes Big, travelling from Croydon (Melbourne, Victoria) with a caravan in tow and making a leisurely caching holiday across the Nullarbor and back.Today we're travelling a little down the road to Denmark to spend a day or two grabbing some of the roymerc caches around the area.I was up early this morning to grab this older cache as I forgot about it over the last couple of days, shame on me! Quick find today.**Thanks for placing this cache Lyn Pat and Nathan**---*WOW, so much happening here in Victoria*Dont forget to log your will attend for Victorias first ever Block Party in March 2025, the [**The Sunbury Event**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).Theres also all those lists of amazing geocaches at [Geocaching Victorias List webpage]( https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists), go check them out.
Wasnt sure we would find it as there was a recent fire here (June) but someone replaced it. without trees, the coords were spot on. Took a travel bug with me. Thanks for the cache!
Thanks fun to find the first in WA! Interesting site given its burnt. We carefully walked from the road.
Coordinates changed from:S 35 3.436 E 117 55.493Coordinates changed to:S 35 3.443 E 117 55.490Distance from original: 45.0 feet or 13.7 meters.Moved replacement cache to better conceal the container after a recent fire went through the area.
We came down for an overnight visit to replace the cache and have moved the container slightly (13m towards the road) to conceal it better from the track. It's probably closer to where it was originally when we placed it. As time goes on and the bushes regrow we may move it again as needed. The cache is big but very well camoflauged because it the paint. It disappears in the greenery. A tourist will help but it is also chained to a small tree so it can't be far from the base of one of them. Tap around with your walking pole and you will probably hear it. Yes we know we have given you lots of hints but we do like it being found.Take care when walking to the cache. The Russian is the closest entry point now. Try not to disturb any plants that are trying to grow. The Bush is returning quickly so by the end of winter it will be perfect again. If you don't want to walk on the Bush we will for a while accept photo logs that show you have been nearby.
WA's #1... ? Of course we wanted to look for it. Yes, the area's been burnt out and yes, the track's closed but we couldn't help ourselves, we can't not go when it's just up there... So we did, carefully. Things are starting to grow back, still not enough to hide the cache but it's new rusted camo helps it blend in quite well. We left a new bag to protect the log since the ammo can is beyond that now. TFTC Lyn Pat and Nathan. FP for the history, scenic views and just being an oldie.
During our two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia, we arrived in Albany yesterday. Today we explore the Torndirrup National Park. This cache was found while we were visiting the National Park.**Lyn Pat and Nathan**, thanks for the cache.
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Singapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. We had about three weeks in New Zealand which went by too quickly. The remaining five weeks are spent in Australia. Yesterday we drove from Esperance to Albany. The trails we had planned for today are closed due to work. Thus we decided to drive along the sights on the coast amongst wich the Salmon Holes, the blowholes, the Gap and the Natural Bridge. After that we wanted to walk the Point Possesion Trail but found out that this trail was closed due to regenaration after fire. This oldes cache of WA was very close to the closure and after read the logs of people visiting the cache we couldn't any longer resist it to do also. The cache was quickly found and we left our teamname at the new log sheet. Thank you very much for this cache. Hopefully this area soon recovers.
Very sad to see such devastation from recent bushfires, however there is already some brilliant verdant green growth around us. We decided to approach this one from the nearest place on the road to avoid walking too far on the land which is desperately trying to rejuvenate. As always, ammo tins seem to survive almost anything nature throws at them. Log signed. Thanks Lyn Pat and Nathan Domsky
As per previous loggers the lure of the oldest cache in WA was too much and no damage was done in our very quick duck, walk, retrieve, sign, return! Thanks goes out to LPN for your placement and continuous maintenance as well as those that are helping to continue this historic cache! We wish we could have helped with the replacement but unfortunately we did not have an ammo can or an angle grinder. Thankfully the area is starting to grow back nicely and the fantastic walk will hopefully be open in the near future! What an amazing spot, we spent some time enjoying the views from the rocks below and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Another case of we may not have come here if not for geocaching! This particular cache has been on our radar for a long time (we wish we could have made it one of our milestone caches ). Lyn Pat and Nathan have been stalwarts of the WA geo-community since the beginning and are always willing to help out any time you ask! I doubt there is a single geo in WA who hasn't heard of them, met them or messaged them at some point in their geo-journey! Thank you for all you do and continue to do. Fave point added for an amazing location, a nice size cache (albeit now slightly dented and burnt), the oldest cache, for being an amazing part of the geo-community and just because! /. If we could give it more FPs we would! Photo attached just cos we know LPN always do
Found it TFTC. Well yes we know we probably shouldn't have gone in, but the path is very established and as were from Qld and unexpectedly have to return next week, after only 11mths here, we couldn't have not done the oldest in WA. The vegetation is coming back
The area has been hit quite hard just in this section by fire. On the other side of the car park it's totally unaffected. Yes, the path is closed, and the temptation of this great old cache is too much to resist. I did consider this carefully before going. The concern appears that it may cause potentially harm to walkers with damaged trees dropping branches. Environmentally, following the short distance on the formed track, no concern and this I based my decision on, if i felt it was damaging to the regeneration, I would not have gone. And there still seems to be the original geo trail of no growth in the few metres to the cache. As others have observed, there are footprints on the path beyond the cache. The sword grass is regenerating, but this area could be a while till the bushes and trees recover sadly. It's a lovely area otherwise and the nearby beach views good. It's great to have visited this cache today.
Bliss Baby went in so we all didn't have to , I took many photos and left a lot of foot prints near by while she was grabbing the cache. The oldest in WA and right where we were passing was just to great for us today. They nearly left me behind as she jumped into the drivers seat and went to take off, they car sitters alerted her to my exploring of the area. It looks so amazing my photos don't do it justiceSo many caches, so little time, which do we chooseCanetoads and cockroach on holidays in the West TMac61 and Bliss BabyTFTC
I was a bit unsure about going to get this cache when I got there but prior I was gung ho and keen. By the time I arrived, in the middle of my holiday from NSW, I had read some of the logs and realised the problems besetting gz. The lure of the area, how old it was and lack of observers made our decision. I was the sucker who ducked under the closed tape - there are other footprints that lead past the cache if that makes it any better. I still felt bad, but I touched no burnt trees, or trod on any fresh greenery peaking through the soil, justifying my decision to myself the whole way. The colours of the water, beach, burnt forest and surrounds were truly mind blowing for me. I found many photo opportunities once I was back at the car and wandering around. thank you for continuing to maintain this cache
We have new ammo Box ready for replacement but wont get there until March/April. So sad to see the damage to the area and the cache. By the look its probably better to be left as it is for now because of the colour. As Albany get plenty of rainfall the shrubs may have regrown a bit by the time we get there and help with concealment. It looked like a very hot fire. Thanks for the information and for the team that helped out by replacing the log book. We appreciate the assistance from such lovely people in the geocaching community.
Like the previous find, I too found the track closed. Having travelled down for a long weekend, I couldn't turn around and not find WA's oldest cache so I stuck to the track and only left once I spotted the cache. I've messaged the CO to let them know the condition of this. A favourite for the history of this cache, TFTC!
#10786After climbing up the Porongurup Park Skywalk we return to Albany where we decide to take a little detour and walk to the Point Possession Monument. We get to the parking lot at the beginning of the trail and stop dead in our tracks: What happened here????? It's all burnt and the trail is closed!!Only once we return to the hotel and search the Internet do we find out about the arson fire on January 29th that devoured the entire forest.Yes, maybe I shouldn't have done it, but not yet knowing the facts I went beyond the no access sign (DU) to walk the dozen meters that separated me from the cache while BA waited at the car park. When I arrived at GZ I found the Ammo tied to the tree with a chain, but deformed by the heat of the flames. Inside only ash. I emptied the box and placed a white sheet of paper with our nickname inside a plastic bag. What a shame! Why in the world would anyone enjoy starting fires? We leave a FP full of sadness. #10786
Cherry picking a few Albany caches and couldn't resist this juicy cherry, oldest WA cache, Yeehaa. Tftc
The path was marked with a jumper on a tree and the box was buried in the ground behind a tree
Nice to put a smiley to this one after a DNF a few years back. Certainly the largest cache I've found in the local area!
Found after crossing the Nullabor and heading down to Esperance and Albany on our way around the SW coast. Spent two nights in Albany to look around this very picturesque town with the main aim to find WA's oldest cache, and picking up other caches along the way. Very happy to claim a find on this iconic cache. Dropped off five trackables. Thanks for the cache Lyn Pat and Nathan!
Out walking with Geo daughter Cameron's WA we cover this one nice easy fine love the style of cases thanks for putting it
Was in Albany for the night so had to come out here to find this one, only 1 state left to do the oldest in every state and territory. cache easily found and is all good.
In WA for 3 days, so I decided to hire a car and head south from Perth and drive around the wheat belt and back up the coast line. Day 1, I headed from the city out towards lock then south through the back roads all the way down to Albany, collecting LGAs and a few target caches along the way. Once in Albany I found a few caches around the area and the oldest cache in WA. Nearly 750km for the day and 50 finds.
Thanks for the cache

Really nice view of the water. We got to see a ship being led in by two tugs. Very cool. Thanks for bringing us here.
It was wonderful to walk along the track and see such a beautiful view. It rained lightly but not heavily. Found it fav from me Thanks, Lyn Pat and Nathan

Day 2 of our visit to Albany and doing some sightseeing and, of course, picking up a few targeted caches.
This was our top priority today and was well worth the drive around and the walk to get to GZ.
Great old cache and so pleased to have ticked this off my to-do list.
Thanks, Lyn Pat and Nathan, for maintaining and keeping this old cache alive, a favourite point from me

TFTC and a nice quick find. I took the geocoin and will drop it somewhere else. Just visited the gap and blowhole. WOW. I’m visiting from the Hunter Valley in NSW
Visiting friends today on our way north along the Bibbulmun track and this oldie was one that I just had to visit. After parking nearby it was a nice walk in to GZ where the cache was soon in hand. Always nice to find an oldie and after showing everything to my friends signed the log and returned all as found.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache. Well worth a favourite point.
I left a couple of GCs that need to travel.
TFTC
I took along some trackables for a visit

After searching for a few I finally found a cache. Follow the path thats been trodden.
BINGO bango...when I saw that this gem is a golden oldie from ever so long ago in 'geocache years" it got put on the must visit and find agenda! Just imagine how big and relatively cumbersome the GPS device must have been to say nothing of the adventure being created! The journey west has become a multi mission. TFTC and the FUN!!
I have now found the oldest current caches in all Australian states. This one may be the best of the lot.

The geo trail confirmed l was in the right place. Eventually came up with this great old ammo box. TFTC! Staying in Albany, so this was a quick diversion.
Our second day in WA, driving from Perth to Albany, Denmark and Walpole. What we hadnt thought of was the lack of network. UPS here you need to plan a head, and we’ve only done that for a few special once. This was one of the planned once. We surely needed to look for the oldest in WA when in the area. FP & TFTC + greetings from &
While holidaying in WA from Sydney on our 40th wedding Anniversary, of course there’s a few caches to be had along the way. After a long day in the National Park, with still more to see, I was chuffed to find this hide quite by accident while researching the area when we arrived. No question, just had to look for it.
Was a little confused initially, but I was very tired, and was most pleased to come across the hide relatively quickly thank goodness. I’ve not been having much luck while I’ve been here!
Great to find such a long standing hide.

Day 28 of our Australia Tour 2023, which we spent in Albany. The first one in WA, which therefore was a must to visit. FP for keeping it alive.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Great to find this old one. Didn't take trip long with the trodden down cache area.
