This area is still fenced off due to railway line work, and will be for the foreseeable future. So I am archiving this cache.

The area has been fenced off, not sure what will be happening, but I have grabbed the cache and will disable it until I find out.
Thanks to BoatieTim and delightfuldolphins for the information.

Well that was bigger than I was expecting! Found without too much trouble, it's a pity not more of the station was saved, but then it probably would have been tagged to death anyway. TFTC
This was a nice easy find, but difficult to retrieve due to ask the passing muggles. Tftc.
The railway station is in a worse state than the grandstand! Must have been a magnificent sight when the races were still being run....a lot of pomp and pageantry I'm sure. TFTC
After doing the caches around here I stopped off after driving through the water way and signed the log. TFTC
Just think there used to be a station here and a racecourse as well
The things you find out about while out caching
No water over the ford today as I crossed it by foot as I parked in the Altona pier area
Spotted the cache straight away as the coords are spot on
Thanks for the exercise today and bringing me here
All good at GZ TFTC

Bit wary of snakes but a good cache. Kind of scared that we wouldn't find it as there haven't been many finds recently. Three out of three for today, holidays are going well.
After having (somewhat foolishly) crossed the ford without finding this cache I was intending to walk back from the multi and somehow bypass the ford. That was impossible so it was a crossing back over what seemed to be an even faster flowing ford than when I had originally crossed it.
All went well and although my phone had me 15m out from GZ I thought that the pieces of concrete looked a little suspicious....Well what do you know, a quick find!

15:37, 28 Oct 16, Find #91, On the way home from picking up my daughter at school, we stopped off to do a few caches in this area seeing it's not far from home. I have been looking at this one for quite some time and thought it was time to come and get it.. We parked and not long had the cache found, just had to watch out for the plague of earwigs that came out with the cache container. We SL TNLN replaced the cache exactly how it was found. I showed my daughter where the old staton was and she found it interesting asking a few questions, thanks for the history lesson. TFTC.
The mum of Georgiak21 (now known as geomum) has found her very first geocache!! Well done!! Easy peezy to start off with her adventure! TFTC
Found it @ approx 13:45

A quick stop for just one more cache this morning. I'm already going to be late to work so what's another 5 minutes.
Found quickly, signed and replaced with no muggles about at this early hour.
Thanks Robmc for the caching fun this morning.

Only a small amount of time to squeeze in a few cache finds in Melbourne. This was one of them.
A short stroll in an area that I've not previously visited brought us to GZ. Then we made a quite straightforward find. The train went by as we were visiting and that brought some reality to the imagining of the station long gone.
Cache was in order; log signed, then safely rehidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

In and about Altona and Williamstown area today picking up a few caches while the rain held off, luckily we only had to deal with the cold winds instead. Found the cache easily as we studied what little remains here of the old station.
Thanks Robmc for the placement.

A few cachers seem to have problem with me providing a dry home for a family of weevils!
So I replaced the cache container today. (and the blunt pencil)
All good to go, Robmc.
PS: thanks for the information.

Unluckily there 's a hole on the case's lid and it was full of insects. Nevertheless I got me a nice flip-flop's key holder after trading it for another one.

Found quickly by 6yo geoson. Interesting to learn about the past station. Gave the car a wash driving through the floodwaters. TFTC
TFTC Robmc. News for us that there was a railway station here. Nice to know fact for the Varna exercise book. Jimmytherat with Noelle04.
Not where I thought it was going to be! I was trying my best to be stealth.. and then a train went past, haha. Thanks very much for the cache and happy souvenir day!
Found it! Myself and my son where like 2 kids in a candy store lol clearly we're first timers. Was fun!
Very easy find but nice spot too. had to wait for 2 cars full of muggles and a whole train full to pass before i opened the cache
Catching up on a few late logs (something not that unusual for me). As always, I enjoyed the journey to find the cache, mostly I have been in the company of Team Crackers, maccamob, alansee and the Coffee's, but occasionally I have gone out solo to soak in the solitude of being out in the fresh air.
Thanks Robmc for placing this cache.

Found by Mary & David, in company with micaparamedic, at 1305. Nobody else about while we were there, although we did have one train go by. A nice quick find. Our thanks to Robmc.
A.K.A. strikes again. We're back, minus A. Introducing the muggles of the world to exciting times.
21:04, 16 February 2016. #334.
On my way home from a motorcycle club meeting in Williamstown and needed a fix that wouldn't take long, nor be too far off my route.
Plenty of parking near GZ at this time of night, so no problem there. There was a bit of a breeze, unusually cold for February in Melbourne so I had trouble seeing what I was doing, but pretty quickly had the cache in hand. Then, as I was finishing up signing an official looking ute pulled up and a bloke in a hi-vis vest and construction helmet got out. He can't have missed seeing me, but apparently didn't perceive me as suspicious lurking around GZ, in the dark, with a tiny LED flashlight because he disappeared without approaching or saying anything before I had time to replace the cache.
Cache looked to be in good condition, but a bit hard to tell in the low light.

I popped along and found it with my daughter. There really is surprisingly little left of the station, and yes they should certainly put a plaque here to inform people of its previous existence. Thanks for the pointer to this local history. I think this is cache 1800 for me, so hooray.
Out today with trim technician cleaning a few form this area. Quick easy find in a great location
