I had never really taken much notice of letterbox caches until one of the souvenirs last year that required finding one. At that point I had found 1 in Auckland, and the only other one reasonably close to me hadn't been found for several years (I was lucky, that month I was in the UK where there were so many letterbox caches). Since then I have seen and found a variety of them which were placed as a result of the souvenir. I'm heading back to Auckland and as I was going to collect a puzzle cache near here this one caught my attention. I parked across the road and wandered down, wondering where I would find a post for it to be on. Wow, that is what I expected a letterbox cache to be like. It would be hard not to find it!

Awesome secret location with swag any mini-cacher would love. Up here from Palmy on a 3 week block training course and trying to get as many caches found in my down time as I can before I head back. Mihi ki a koe mo te keteroki #151

Wow, we were excited to find this one. The logbook has over 10 years of logs! Our first trade with this cache and the kids loved it!

26-Mar-24
Thanks August Souvenirs for the cache!

20-Mar-24
Returning home from a caching mission with rattll, I had to stop and grab this one. After all, a letterbox cache is a letterbox cache, few and far between. Stopped the geomobile opposite GZ, dashed across the road. I pushed my way in through the vegetation, and was delighted to find the well themed cache. An FP from me. Signed, and retrieved a TB before returning. Tftc!

First time logging a letterbox cache - always feels good to add a new type to the list. A very nice set up with easy parking and access. TFTC

With a few minutes to spare around the area I thought Id take a look for this letterbox hybrid for a different cache type. I quickly found the best approach and was face to face with the themed host. Thanks kiwis69#4883Logged using Cachly.

Stoked to find this letterbox cache today as I can now fulfil the original criteria for the challenge cache Streak Week Challenge GC8EX7G which I picked up in Wellington a few days ago. I had some initial problems - as per Tramyards log - then increased my search area and hey presto! TFTC

11-Nov-23
We are staying at Morrinsville for a few days and decided to come over this way to pick up a few caches. This was the first of them. A straightforward find. #6862. TFTC.

05-Nov-23
After traveling around Australia with Oopie for 7 weeks, we have now been traveling with the camper in New Zealand for 4 weeks. Along the way we will of course also visit various types of caches in beautiful places, including this one. Thanks CO for creating and laying this cache.

04-Nov-23
Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. After 7 weeks driving around through Australia we arrived the 2th November in New Zealand. For ten days we will cross the Northern Island and than for 2 weeks the Southern Island.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.Our first letterbox in NZAll the CO's, and in this case kiwis69, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.

I was heading into Hamilton this morning, and decided to grab some caches along the way, certainly a great cache here, cheers

Day 4: We ( TeamARF, Gcoven and myself) have travelled over from Brisbane, Australia to have a visit since we were not able to make it to the Mega. We have spent some considerable time solving puzzles and making plans in preparation.

Today the plan is to work on collecting things of our list. We have a gigantic list of old, interesting, highly favourited, challenges and a few Geo-arts to try and collect over the next 10 days. There is a good chance we got lazy with our logging and do some joint variation of our initials - TGJ, GJT or JGT.

Please excuse the generic log, just have extremely little data to try and survive on it for the 10 days. However, you can be assured that if we have found your cache it was special to us for some reason or in a special location - so thank you for contributing to our holiday.

I will edit logs when back in Brisbane to add more details to those that need more details and of course I will be adding favourite points as I go along.

18-Apr-23
Another day in the land of the long white cloud. TeamARF, JACSTeam and I headed back toward Auckland gathering caches as we drove along. A few odd ones today but happy overall with the day. I had booked us a place rather remote so a tad more driving than we had anticipated plus a road closure altered our plans the next morning. Still heaps of fun and some some fab caches. Thanks to all the COs

17-Apr-23
Easy letterbox to finish a long day's travel to cache. With the cyclone damage and resulting road works, glad we shortened our travel plans. Off to our accommodation, thanks for the cluster of stamps August Souvenirs.

16-Apr-23
We only made a few stops on the long way north from Roturua. We were able to find this special one quickly. TFTC.

Day 14 on our holiday in New Zealand. Today we are in the area and surrounding area of Hamilton. We also visited this letterbox, found it, and signed the logbook.

Quick find on our way round for the Geotour. It’s been a lovely drive even with the rain.

Day 6 and loving the chance to explore.

So exciting to be heading to NZ. Have not been to the NI so looking forward to exploring. Did not make it to the last Mega because of Covid so wonderful Kittykatch and I can get here now.

Thanks for getting me out and about kiwis69

Driving to Hamilton today and picking up some caches and signing some challenges on the way.

Will expand on my logs, post photos, qualifying caches for challenges, etc. When I get home. TFTC+FP

Nice find. Spotted a pen on the ground and with a little persuasion got it to work so placed it in the cache.

Well well well I spent 30 minutes at the wrong location trying to find the unlocking code for a ... padlock ... then spotted my silly mistake Smile

Biked today from Riverlea to Hooker Road and back. It was River rain rather than River ride Smile

I`m logging this cache as my 10096 find.

27-Nov-22
Today on day 6 of our family holiday we are heading to the Matamata area to visit Hobbiton. Of course I have a list of caches to get on the way and this was our first one on it. I love a good letterbox cache and any chance to stamp my ‘fancy’ stamp in it is a win for me. Got wet feet unnecessarily on the way to GZ by thinking I was taking a shortcut. A nice surprise when we got there though! Stamped my stamp and dropped a TB off that I’d been carrying around for a few months. TFTC

Love this cache. Would recommend going to the coordinates on the outside of the bushes first cause I got a bit stuck

This is one of the caches I was hoping to find while we are our road trip. Letterbox caches are few and far between so if they are nearby we like to stop and give them a go.

GK initially headed in the other direction, and when he looked up he could see the cache from where he was standing. The log was signed and it was returned as we found it.

We are in the North Island to try to complete the PWGT Tahi section so we are having to head to the far north. Along the way we will pick up a few other caches that take our interest such as those with lots of favourites or size large or letterbox caches or some that will just help us to fulfil some of the various challenges we are working on.

With the new souvenir challenge we need to use the app to log the finds, but as I like to waffle on and write my stories on my laptop I am writing these while back at the campervan.

Thank you for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

19-Dec-21
My first letterbox cache! I got a few scrapes getting to it and some frowns from passers by in their utes. I brought a little stamp I got from a cheap store and then used it to ink one of the stamps in the container to go into my own little book. I left my tree stamp in the trades box as nothing else had usable ink. Thankfully there were no ants like in the previous posts!!

Very nice!!

Heading north to visit family in Auckland, but with lots of time for caching. Stopped to get this letterbox - great cache, however there were so many ants that I couldn’t sign the log (photo attached). TFTC

20-Mar-21
Found it but also found a thousands of ants!
I was able to retrieve the box with stamps and stamped my passport with beautiful flower stamp.
Because of the ants in the main box a had to leave a piece of paper with my personal stamp in the box with stamps.
Cache needs maintenance of the CO.

Ants!!!

So many ants!!!

Really nicely set up cache, but we were greeted by thousands of ants.

We tried to evict as many as we could and sign the log.

Thanks for the rare letterbox hybrid!

05-Jun-20
Neat cache worthy of a fav. Apart from the infestation of ants this was a fun find.

22-Mar-20
A quick detour from the main road. Cool hide, but the cache has been claimed by ants so much it looks like it is constantly moving!! I had to keep brushing them off myself, still a few made it into the car... TFTC!!

Day 30 of our adventure around the Southern Hemisphere. Traveling from Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA. Today my daughter scheduled two tours of what is to be from the top Ten stops in New Zealand, Hobbiton the set, & Waitomo Glowworms. Both were good but the glow worms were spectacular and one of the top 3 thing on this month long trip. I managed to grab 5 caches for the day to extend my vacation Caching streak to 26 days. It wasn’t a bad day out and about, gray, mostly off misting and warm. I found them all working just fine. TFTCs PS with this cache I have grabbed every cache type available in New Zealand but the web cam. It was disabled when I was in Christchurch. I also discovered this guy nearby guarding the cache.

Road trip yeah!

Recently friends of mine moved to Northland, only they had too many vehicles and too much stuff to take themselves. The solution? "Hey John, fancy driving one of our cars up north for us and making a long weekend of it?"
So here I am, getting a chance to clear up a few caches I've wanted to get by taking a slightly convoluted route, but then hey, isn't that what road trips are all about?

Today was going to be the day I targetted Virtual Caches and Letterbox Hybrids. I had about 300km to drive and had the whole day to do it so was just hoping the weather would play ball and allow me to enjoy the journey. Having just left Cambridge, this was my first targetted cache of the day.

I had no issues finding this one. I wasn't sure about parking at GZ but found a suitable spot about 70m away and strolled back to get it. All was well with the cache and contents, including the many-legged guardians who obviously like their dry home. The log was duly signed before I was back on my way again.

Thanks for setting up this cache.

18-Jun-19
Quick find after exiting the expressway. Lots of treasure here!

Lovely day now that the fog is lifting...

Thanks for the cool letterbox cache - contents all nice and dry. TNLNSL TFTL

23-Mar-19
Yes! Our first real letterbox cache! We thought we this will be a obvious cache to grab but saw a few of them while we approached the GZ. So which is it?

After examine around we then find out which is the one we are looking for... Oh right, Geocache can never be so straightforward and comes with an adventure!

Sneakily, we sign the cache and give a thumb up! FP to our first Letterbox cache! Very Happy
TFTC and hello from Singapore!

Found using Cachly app and logged using the text template, so please excuse generic logging in advance. On a spur of the moment roadie with Phillip.perry from the Bay of Plenty, a plan was hatched and here we are after leaving Tauranga at 6am to make the most of the day. Great to have these places to visit and many thanks to all you COs for the placements. Cheers a Fp

We are trying to find 120 today and this is number 2. Signed TEN for Team Ethness NosyNel. TFTC

24-Jan-19
This week is my with Ethness in the North Island. We are driving from Wellington to Auckland, with a few detours. It is a 5 day trip.
Today is day one after spending the night in Hamilton we went out geocaching to Auckland. We are signing as TEN Team Ethness Nosynel.
We were stopping for larger geocaches, old geocaches, eye puzzle series and enjoying others on the way.
We solved the puzzles at home over time. Then we incorporated our puzzles into the plan. I love geo Art.
A large cache and letterbox to boot.

Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au

If you can't make Aussie. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland. I will keep you posted in my logs.
Thanks for hiding this geocache.

Down from Northland on a big caching mission with Lis's Crew and DaffyNZ as part of Team G0LD with the aim of picking up 200+ caches in one day.

After checking in at our accommodation, we headed out to grab a few on the Friday evening. After getting a few of the outliers of the NZ Icon series, we were heading back to town and stopped off for this one.

With the good hint, this one was soon located, the log signed and then all replaced safe and secure. Picked up one trackable to take on further travels. TFTC

18-Jan-19
Over to pick up some puzzles we'd solved and this cache was too close to leave behind. Found without any issues and was definitely a real treasure trove! Dropped off a trackable while we were here. TFTC

I have logged this cache as part of 12-12-12: A Challenge? http://coord.info/GC42CNY

The Central North Island, Day 5: National Park - Hamilton - Auckland

It’s Christmas Day, and the end of this incredible journey through the North Island. Today’s weather was quite a mixed bag with some rain, some sun and some wind. This didn’t dampen the mood though, as we drive North through King Country and Waikato to get a sampling of the history of the region. A very productive day throughout, despite the weather, and a great Christmas Day!

The following is the specific log for each cache:
I like a nice letterbox cache, and I really enjoyed this one. I actually inspected the real letterbox first before deciding that it has to be elsewhere. Looked into the bush and found the correct one. This was good fun, and the protected me from the rain that was falling outside. TFTC!

18-Nov-18
A nice quick find after a lot of frustration earlier in the day. Great letterbox cache thanks August Souvenirs. Sort of muggled on the way back to the car but she didn't stop to ask what on earth I was up to so hopefully that was the end of that. Need to make my way back to Cambridge now so I can pick up GAR from a dog-related seminar he's attending today (we both went yesterday but ! couldn't pass up the chance to do some caching this weekend). Picked up one of the 2 TBs found.

18-Nov-18
Found this before but back with Bennett24 for a visit and took the opportunity to drop a travel bug.

17-Nov-18
One of the missions of todays trip to Hamilton with Tuolei was to pick up a few of the cluster series that had been solved sometime ago so while in the area grabbing another puzzle we stopped by this cache. Tuolei who had been here before mentioned an encounter his wife had at this cache with a large Weta but no locals on show today. Dropped off a couple of TB's that we had been carrying since our trip to the US. TFTC

15-Oct-18
On a long trip down to the mega with Lis's crew. So for me it good for numbers and favorites caches. With several stops and a lot of caches and several souvenirs up for grabs the trip was the perfect opportunity to get my numbers up and get some challenges that I have qualified for. Very nice letterbox here. Thanks for the effort of this cache.

15-Oct-18
We found this one while in the area today. I'm off to the Mega in Wellington with thegreatauk. I like to collect different cache types along with my solved puzzles. I haven't solved the cluster puzzles yet but I'm not down here very often. Thanks for placing this fairly rare cache type Smile

We have travelled to Huntly especially to get the Eyes series and get some caches for the Hidden Creatures adventure. we stayed in Taupo Friday night then headed off early Saturday morming for Huntly and along the way we decided to get a cache or two this was the second cache for the day. It was a nice quick find here today we signed the log and did a stamp and placed it back where we found it cache was all good here for us today. We are travelling with fellow geocachers so we have a joint log. (2BWC) stands for 2 Bulbars Watcache. Thank you for placing a letterbox cache in the area. We never had a reason to come this way up North until our fellow geocachers invited us on a weekend trip away. TFTC

12-Jul-18
With a half day at work today the afternoon was free to take advantage of a pretty pleasant winter's day. So, I headed south, into the Waikato, for an enjoyable drive around the countryside. Not to forget the small matter of finding some hides to add to the tally. I was passing by here and figured I should stop as it would be rude not too. I parked up near GZ and entered the tree line. Immediately spotted what looked to be a well themed hide and I was rewarded with a super quick find. I dropped a TB (though looking at the cache page just now, I don't remember seeing the other TBs listed). Cheers for the letterbox placement!

Today was a last attempt at getting a bunch of caches to rack up points for the planetary pursuit mission. I managed to find 15 caches, just as I was finding the last one, I found out that the challenge had been extended by a week! So i needn't have busted my ass trying to get heaps of caches the last 4 days... but at least I got my own cache total up nicely.

Out today collected solved cluster puzzle caches and saw this one here so decided to grab it as my first letterbox cache. Got to GZ just a bus dropped off a whole lot of kids in front of me so had to wait a while for them to walk past. Ducked in and found quickly, very cool! Tftc

The cache set up is lovely and dry, in a most suitable location - nicely done! We had stopped in for this one on our way back home after a couple of days caching in Hamilton over the Easter weekend. We don't recall seeing any trackables in the cache.
