Nice find but tricky access. Log soaking needs replacing. TFTC. Left card.
While I'm in puhoi I'm told that it is a must do to visit the pub. If the pub is not open then of course I'll be looking about for a geocache. As it happens there were a couple nearby so I went for a wander and nabbed a couple of cheeky smiley's.Thanks go to the cache owners cretti andsd vista for adding to today's enjoyment with this cache.-- This log is trackable ! ---- Feel free to discover ---- Please mention, in which cache you've seen this code: ---- 3TABQX --
#40225, 2023-10-08 at 13:17, Thanks for the cache Te Araroa (Puhoi) 01 Stumpy and the owner Cretti.Found during our 2 weeks in New Zealand trip.
First find of the day, no trackable inside despite there being one logged. Nice sunny day despite some recent stormy weather.
The last find in the park area today...signed in and replaced slightly more hidden as we found it out in the open....
Up this way today with Mrs stik-a-crane for date day, and what better way to spend it than with a few geocaches along a bush walk...or two.... We had been eyeing this trail and another further North for a wee while now, and as the weather looked to be holding we made the plan......we hit the ad/lab first in case the bonus was along this trail, then headed towards this one......from the carpark there was a sign advising logging in the area, and the trail was closed, but.....we had seen a number of people come out with dogs after a stroll along the said closed trail, and as they were locals decided they would know best......so in we headed.
Arriving at this cache with no problems....
Cache was in good shape, luckily for water proof log sheets...

Quick find as cache was in plain sight. But if you're not looking for something you don't see it.
All dry for the sign

Stumpy turned out to be our last visit today. We were going to do the rest of the trail but it is closed, so a quick finish today. Nothing for it but we'll have to retire to the pub to console ourselves. Easy find and replaced as found. Added a TB. Cache is all good. TFTC
Arrived early for our paddle up the Puhoi River (post Ex tropical cyclone Gabrielle). Pen working again. Visited TB. HNBY
Very easy find as it was sat out in the open. Replaced where found but with camo on top.
Team G0LD - ( 0B80B8, Lis's crew and DaffyNZ ) were actually in Christchurch this morning when we saw two new caches pop up on this trail and thought we'd maybe try to get the first to find on them on our way home. We really hoped they hadn't been found by the time we got this far and we were pleasantly surprised to actually get the FTF's.After signing those caches we grabbed the other two on the track. A quick find by Greg after Lis and I made the T rating higher than it needed to be. TFTC
Team G0LD - Geocachers 0B80B8, Lis's crew and DaffyNZ were in Christchurch this morning. We'd been collecting a whole heap of puzzles down there. Today it was time to return to Whangarei. We saw two new caches pop up on this trail and thought we'd try to get the first to find on them. We really hoped they hadn't been found by the time we got this far. With all the keen Auckland hunters we were very pleased and amazed to get the ftfs.
After signing those caches we grabbed the other two on the track. A quick find by DaffyNZ who'd already found it. Doh!! 0B80B8 and I were busy making it a higher terrain which we really didn't need in this drizzly weather, lol. Nice to complete this little bit of the track today. Thanks for the cache

On the way to the new cache, cache is sodden especially the logbook which I have left there.
Added new log in a bag.
dropped off a TB

I got my parents to take me in my local town, my dad thought it was all bull but we found it in a stump hahaha now he’s all shocked like “omg I can’t believe it’s real” thanks for hiding it!! Really fun finding it
Quick find while exploring this wonderful little area. Stayed in motorhome and had great night at pub. No pen with us so couldn’t fill in book.
Quick find during our visit to Puhoi with family and new geocacher JediJody11 and his family.

This one was on an easy spot to find. Awesome walking area for the family also. Good luck.
A nice quick find thanks. Too hot to find any more up this way.
Time for another trip to the North Island for Ms_KR and me. Wellington and beyond here we come. Today we toured north of Orewa, visiting some regional parks and beaches. Choice.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

The stump fell off where the container was so we re hid it somewhere else in the stump. Great spot though
Maybe do the trail when finished the PWGT. Seduced by the first but got it and rescued a tb.
Thanks for the cache ... You need to go a little bit into the bush, but just a little bit
Well I got to the lookout (anticlockwise) and are on my way down. Nice track today, but can imagine a bit slippery with a bit of rain or in winter. No worries, went over the style to the cache.
Searched in one stumpy, then spotted a larger stumpy, wiggled my way thru, and had the cache in hand.
Another fun find, thanks again Cretti and Vistra for the hides

In Puhoi with Vistra doing an Adventure Lab when we spotted some caches I had yet to do in this lovely wee village. This area was quite overgrown and after navigating some thistles I soon found that cache.
After eating our lunch I mentioned to mrs that there was a cache just up the way. I reckon down the years I've walked a good few mini sections of TA and added these 300-odd metres to my journey. All good here and replaced as found.
A two-pronged caching day today. First up an initial visit to Puhoi to scope out the chance of placing my next allocated Adventure Lab (it was good and will be worked on over next week or so). After that I was keen for a first trip to yet another (unvisited) Regional Park; Mahurangi West. A warm day and a few around but a good day for scenery and views and a cheese tasking up Puhoi Valley - yay. Thanks to all CO s for their caches.

Decided to get a walk in on our drive north. Luckily the showers had stopped so we didn't get wet. Started searching in the wrong area but a nice easy find once in the right area. Thanks for the cache
Needed a little leg stretch to break up the long drive so decided a stop in the old hood was in order.; joggled out and this one was thought I may grab this while cache/jogging back , but ditched attempt when first thing spotted was a doggy doo bag at gz . Another day , with more time( & gloves!)
Funny story! This cache would have never been on my radar except I was looking at my old trackable (travel bug) logs today at another cache 12 miles north- when I saw “our adventure book” was last placed in this cache! That travel bug I dropped off in Australia 3 years ago! I thought there is no freaking way I am only 12 miles from it again! It was placed here ages ago but had no recent logs! Figured it wouldn’t hurt to check. Well unfortunately it’s not in the cache inventory anymore anyways... but also it’s last log was someone placing it there! Bummer I really wish people would log things when they pick them up! Anyhow thanks for the cache, and the wild goose chase today!
At first I wasn't stumped, but then I wasn't, and then I was! Good hide, easy find. Thx.
Out to walk the Puhoi Trail today with some relatives (and fellow cachers). All found with the exception of "00". Logs signed as "Team SSJLCD" (our initials) to save space.
This one took some searching, we spent some time looking over the obvious host item and all we found were ants. We then spotted a geotrail to another stump but that didn't reveal anything either. Looking back over some past logs suggested a third option which, once located, revealed the container. TFTC!

Thanks for the find! Great spot an easy one for the kids! Put some fun swapables in!
We were doing the lopp walk so this was the last for us not the first. Very appropriate name.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Thought this might have been harder with the lack of clues. Eagle eyes and a bit of experience help here
Came down this way on the way back to Puhoi - definitely steeper than using the main track but worth the visit to the memorial to A Dunn. TFTC
Dropped Kiwiscot off at Surf Life Saving training and shot further up the coast to collect our daily cache. Took us a few minutes to locate the correct gz but after that no issues. The grass area below looks like a good spot for picnics. We will need to return at some stage and complete the walking track. Thanks for bringing us here.
Family walk around Puhoi looking for caches. Enjoying the number of caches along this trail. Didn’t have us stumped. Thx.
This was very nicely hidden, not quite where we expected but it didn't take long to locate.
There were a lot of muggles in town today for a wood chopping competition so parking was difficult but we managed to get a spot in the carpark and fortunately there were no muggles around GZ, although one did walk past just after we re-hid the container which was good timing. TFTC.

22447 Traveling through New Zealand to see nice people and places. Also to find some geocaches.
Today we were went from Auckland to Paihia. On several spots we stopped to find some caches and to enjoy the lookout views. All day was sunny,so we also made a walk in Puhoi to get the caches along the path to the mountain view. Also the GB1 caches were very popular because you can park safely for them. At some Parkings there were many muggles, but they had no interest in us. they took many pictures.
Most caches were found quite quickly. A few took more time. Several were with waterproof paper, but our stamp and pen do not work that good on such paper, where when it was wet paper it logs fantastic.
Cretti TFTC and the fun it brought us. Theo

Visiting my son for the weekend, and I dragged him along to a 'get as many as possible today' outing... We had great fun and fitted in a walk as well as some driving. Nice day to be out and about! TFTC!!
Happy International Geocaching Day 2018! Lovely start of the day in Puhoi. Thanks for hides along the way. Well placed caches. Pleaure to find. Wet condition all over but well worth it! All good at GZ. TFTC!
I looked very carefully at the first one only to realize that it wasn't the only possibility. Left Our Adventure Book TB.
The track is a bit muddy and mushy ...great fun avoiding slipping and sliding every...great placement ..my GPS took for ever to settle then bang all good signed and replaced thanks Cretti and Vistra
We slipped and slid our way down after admiring the view at the top. Then the hunt began. Great hiding place! Thanks for the cache.
We headed off in this direction to the trail. This one had us stumped for a few minutes as we were not 100% which one. On the third attempt we have the right one
Got this one after doing the rest of the trail and came back, nice hide, many thanks for bringing me here. Cheers
JDScout had a conference up in Auckland for a few days. A plan was hatched. Tickets and Accommodation got booked. We're making lemonade out of our lemons.
We thought we were on the loop track. But after 14... We realised we weren't. So we walked 3km on the road. I was determined to find number 1. Like the others I examined the wrong stump first. We really enjoyed the walk.

Aiden29, Geocchi, Pazzabella and Bertie Blowfish met up at the car park to do this trail. This was the first of the day and I'd told them I'd heard it wasn't too hard but in the heat and humidity it was a bit of a hot slog up the hill. I should have looked at the gps before I headed to the wrong hint item, the right one was 10m further along
Out walking the trail with Merlot58, Pazzabella, Geocchi and Bertie Blowfish. While all the others searched the first obvious spot I headed a bit further and found a more likely location. Once there Geocchi located the cache.
Five of us looked amongst stumpy but we were feeling rather slumpy as the hot summer sun bore down on us. Got there after about 5 mins. tftc
I spent a good 5 minutes searching the wrong stumpy, before I realised the others had moved on to another one a few metres away. And then I had to go back for my GPSr which I'd left on the grass, at the first one! Not a promising start to my caching day! (I wonder if maybe I should've had one less G&T last night?)

I've been meaning to do the Puhoi trail for a little while now. The last time I was here was Easter where we had meet up in the carpark by the river to do the trail, only to be told there was a swag of FTF's up at Atiu Creek. Well back here today in the motorhome for a more relaxing go at the trail. Nice easy find here, I really enjoyed exploring this trail today gets a FP from me, cheers.
