Out to walk the Puhoi Trail today with some relatives (and fellow cachers). All found with the exception of "00". Logs signed as "Team SSJLCD" (our initials) to save space.

After we'd walked back along the main park of the trail we took in this loop to finish our walk and pick up the remaining two caches on the East side. With (yet again) jumpy co-ords under the trees we went back and forth over a promising location on the trail without finding anything. We then spotted another potential host a little "off road" and sent one of the junior team members in for a look. He returned with the good sized container a couple of moments later. Unfortunately the contents were wet and there was also no log book in evidence - photo proof of find available if required. We replaced where found but wondered if this has migrated from its intended location so might be worth a CO check.

TFTC and for a great series. Hopefully the time might come for the Westerly extension in due course?

This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.

Spent some time looking, but the pub is calling...

04-Oct-19
Found cache .. lid was off and full of water.. didn't have a towel to dry it out properly.. needs a new log book as it was soaked.. replaced lid and sorted as best we could.. have rehidden

04-Oct-19
Good things to swap but damaged box and wet log

23-Sep-19
Add us to the DNFs. To be fair though, this cache was only on our phones not the GPS and reception was not great.

Kiwiscot participating in the Red Beach Surf Club Pub to Club race. A 17km paddle along the Puhoi River and Hauraki Gulf finishing at Red Beach. After the start I popped up the hill to collect our daily cache. Had a quick look here but no good. A muggle doing some tramping training caught me out. Had a chat before moving on to the next cache. Will be back one day to complete this walk.

26-May-19
Had a quick look for this one but couldn't find it before I had to move on or get left behind by the rest of the group.

25-Apr-19
Has been found a few times recently. The NM flag was added a while ago and I had forgotten to clear it.

19-Apr-19
Got very worried when I saw the dnfs but ventured off the path a bit and spotted it almost straight away.Lots of parrots nearby too.

03-Feb-19
Found a few likely spots but no cache this time.

25-Jan-19
Ooh, did this one in the end of november but totally forgot to log it online. Thanks for a great trail and cache!

13-Jan-19
Found a spot that seemed like a good hiding place but no cache to be found shall try again next time we are up this way.

12-Jan-19
So nice to find a large container, they are getting quite rare these days.
Unfortunately it was full of water and the log was too saturated to sign but we took a photo and can send it as proof if necessary.
We have emptied the water out and dried things as much as we can.

22445 Traveling through New Zealand to see nice people and places. Also to find some geocaches.

Today we were went from Auckland to Paihia. On several spots we stopped to find some caches and to enjoy the lookout views. All day was sunny,so we also made a walk in Puhoi to get the caches along the path to the mountain view. Also the GB1 caches were very popular because you can park safely for them. At some Parkings there were many muggles, but they had no interest in us. they took many pictures.

Most caches were found quite quickly. A few took more time. Several were with waterproof paper, but our stamp and pen do not work that good on such paper, where when it was wet paper it logs fantastic.

Cretti TFTC and the fun it brought us. Theo

Literally puddle of water in this one. As much as i was excited about the size the moisture was not very nice. Absolutely requires maintenance.
Again not having a pen. So hope photo log would do. Although the completely wet piece of paper would not be usable anyway.
Thank you

Need to recheck your thing because is muddy and icky

30-Jun-18
I wish I could recognize trees. Instead, I just had to search them all, and that's a lot of trees. TFTC.
On the way down from here there were several people carrying up buckets of gravel which they put on the steps and trail. I would have stopped to help, but there are still caches that need to be found.

Last one for the day on the way down the hill. We entertained the cows in the paddock as we found this one. They were most interested.

Easy not having to leave path
Thanks!

Well got a bit of a workout up those steps, was camped at the bottom overnight after 10 days in the far north. Once I realised I could get a few more smileys, I got up early and headed up the hills, I was pleasently surprised at how great the track was, especially for this old nan!! Please accept my apology for the cut and paste logs for this great little series in advance. The caches were all in good order and was nice to have a bit of variety, I hope you will be allowed to continue the trail in time, if it wasnt for geocaching, I would never have made it to the end, a great trail in a great area, many thanks for the placements. cheers from the Bay of Plenty!

This was a nice walk. I have never been to this area before.

Thanks. Cretti and Vistra for putting in the effort to hide this geocache. This was find for me.

Our last one along this trail today - and I suspect I may not have been giving 100% attention to my GPSr at this stage, because I was wandering along (well past GZ) when Aiden called out from behind that she'd found it!
Thanks for this bringing us to this trail - it's been a most enjoyable walk Smile

14-Jan-18
Aiden29, Geocchi, Pazzabella and Bertie Blowfish met up at the car park to do this trail. Bertie and I overshot this one, I think we were too busy thinking about the G&T's at the pub we were going to have to rehydrate ourselves

14-Jan-18
Out walking the trail with Merlot58, Pazzabella, Geocchi and Bertie Blowfish. This was soon found before we were off to the pub for G&Ts. Thanks for the series.

Out and about for a spot of caching fun and some walking north of Auckland this morning. I decided to check out this track as I was close by after stopping for some refreshments at the general store. Made the steep climb up to GZ from the car park. GPSr was a bit slow under the tree cover and still indicated 20+m when I spied a likely hidey spot out of the corner of my eye. Closer inspection confirmed the find. Cheers for the cache placement!

Spotted that Albert the geohound was not welcome here so walked him back to the car while I made a quick dash up the trail to look for this cache. Fortunately it didn't take too long for me to find this one and get the log signed and all put back where it belonged. Since we didn't want to leave Albert we decided to give the one a bit further up the trail a miss - another time when he is at home perhaps. Quickly made the dash back down the track to the car. Thanks for the cache.

Still there in good condition.

07-May-17
I overshot this one coming down the track so backtracked and found it quickly enough. TFTC

Tubby has gone on a diet. Thanks for the maintenance help Super-nanny.

16-Apr-17
Yay....finally get to start this lovely trail....!
A bit later in the day then I expected....as was called away earlier to attend to some new caches at Atiu Regional Reserve !
Beautiful start up the little hill ...

28-Mar-17
Went to look anyway even though we know it is disabled. In a nice spot but was very wet (tipped out water) and unfortunately now the log is wet and we couldn't sign it Sad if we have a chance we'll visit again and stick a new, dry log in the tub. Should mention terrain difficulty at its current spot is higher than description. TFTC Chase & Mikki

06-Feb-17
I knew this was disabled and yet it has been found. My wife debdunord and I were on our way down the hill and I was able to spend a few minutes looking for it. I overshot the approach at first but came back a ways. As I was doing this I spotted the described container in the open. I figured it was not the intended spot but it was not obvious to me where it should have gone. The inside was wet but the log was dry. I put at the base of a stump a less than a meter from where I found it. My GPSr was indicating about 7m farther down the hill than the posted coords. I grabbed some additional coords but the 7m should be adequate. TFTC.

06-Oct-16

Found it even though its not supposed to be available. It now seems to have to have broken up with its totara partner and shacked up with a pine.

11-Sep-16
Will visit and replace with a slightly smaller Tub. Smile

10-Sep-16
Searched for a while then took note of the maintenance message. Searched again but no luck.

07-Aug-16
Found this one halfway down the hill out in the open. Think maybe it rolled away in the storm. Not sure which tree it came from originally so left it at the base of the biggest one just off the track. The inside is quite wet so might need to be cleaned out.

07-May-16
Really needed a fix of caching and, although GAR not keen, he came out with me for a nice walk here in Puhoi, one we haven't done before and was going to fit in between dropping off our daughter to her workplace and picking her up again. This was our first stop. Unfortunately, Tubby wasn't really hidden and also had no log as I have just found the previous log mentioned. I didn't have a log like all the other ones on this trail have but I did put in a micro sized log in a small bag so that at least it would serve for a while.
Thanks for getting us to the trail Cretti, so far enjoying getting in some exercise (the most stairs we have done in a while!) Smile.

25-Apr-16
Out with GB today for an easy(r) walk.
This part of the TA was just what we'd needed.
1st one off the day and easy find as the large container was a bit exposed.
No log book inside. GB took a picture of the cache.
Might pay off putting a smaller container inside with a logsheet.

Out with KiwLeon today for the first walk in ages recuperating from an ankle injury - this walk was just right

Walk past turned around and saw a large cache out in the open. Still had swaps but log missinmg unfortunately. T4TC

Out with KirsTim and Metzgan for a morning of caching in the area and making our way around the Te Araroa (Puhoi) trail. A nice little trail of caches here and were all gathered without any problems.

As per KirsTim's log, hid this back to prevent exposure. Thanks for the hide. Smile

This is very exposed, I'm surprised it hasn't been muggled. Hidden back as best we could. Good size cache, signed the log as KKKTM, thanks

On this trail for the first time, quite windy already, will be a howler when I'm more exposed. Looking forward to the view.

Used to walk my little dog up here many years ago... thanks for the cache & revisit. Dropped in a domino & TB

I hadn't had much exercise the last couple of days, and this looked a nice walk. This was the hardest section, going up, but not too hard. "Totara tree" was cryptic for this Australian, but the cache was easily spotted fortunately. I took a look at the tree, which helped with the clue for the next cache. TFTC Cretti.

I was trying to figure out how to zoom in on our new GPSr when R spied a likely spot and sure enough there was nice big cache!

Thanks to the dairy tanker accident blocking SH1, we detoured to check out the nearby farmers market and grab some caches.

TFTC!

Perfect day to get out and pick up the four caches we didn't do last time we were in the area. Met a lovely gentleman just past this cache who is 80+ and apparently does this loop walk everyday, good on him. Anyway a lovely walk up through the bush and had a chat to the cows at the top. TFTC

Nice easy find on our last few days in NZ!

16-Oct-14
I thought it was about time I did this trail especially after a nice bout of fine weather making the track not so slippery. Today started out a little cloudy mking this an ideal day to go walkabouts. I really enjoyed this walk and have faved this one for the trail.

This one is ideally placed on the trail as it allows one to take a breather.

Cheers for the cache.

Start of the trail for us and after the initial overshoot by the GPS, we soon backtracked and had the cache swiftly in hand.

back to the real start charging up the hill in the late afternoon air made for some good blowing out of the long haul airline fuzzy air.. not much cover/camo at GZ very muggle spotable.. looks like the last cacher was in to much of a hurry to preserve the cach for the rest of us in the game?.. luckly it was us that spotted it before it was muggle... very big tummy but so very little in it.. tucked back with extra camo

With Ostara74 in Australia for a while we had our annual holiday a bit closer to my home this year heading over the ditch to the land of the long white cloud for a few weeks exploring and of course hunting caches. We had a brilliant time visiting the many amazing sites New Zealand has to offer and finding heaps of awesome caches. We managed to squeeze in a road trip around the bottom of the south island, then a short week in Queenstown (even got two days skiing) and then a week relaxing north of Auckland with family and friends. This was cache find number 19 of 60. Thanks for the cache, Cretti.

07-Sep-14
Found this one together with Pathfinder24 and Irtek.
This is my second visit to New Zealand but the first time caching. In addition to enjoying the beautiful scenery we spent some time locating caches during our 3 weeks of holiday. Today we headed north from Irteks holiday place and stopped for some caches along our way.
After a visit to the nearby cheese store we thought we would look for some of the Puhoi trail caches. Following our GPS we soon realized that we were heading up hill. We all went a bit too far at first but when following the coords back again I soon located the well-sized cache. We signed the log and put the cache back in its place before we were on our way again.
Thanks for the cache Cretti!
