Navigational Aid/Surveillance plane located on Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station, CA.
I don't know the exact name or specifications on this plane, but the pictures will be uploaded as soon as I can get them to show up on my work computer... (Home computer is not cooperating at all.)
This plane IS, to my knowledge used for overhead surveillance and flying into various storms for research. The static display of this aircraft is so new to the base, that the information plaque has not been affixed to the concrete podium in the picnic area.. Will be uploading more info asap.

NAV/AID for the Waynesville/Fort Leonard Wood Airport. We don't get many flights in here each day and today was no different. My son and I had to make a few runs around post and then came to the airport to snap this picture.

Found this navigation aid at the end of the run way at the Trenton / Hancock County airport in Trenton, Maine. Trenton is at the gateway to Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. The Rockefellers, Martha Stewart and the like fly into this airport when they come up to Maine to visit their summer houses.
This is a NDB Non-Directional Beacon located southwest of Chandler Airport in Fresno, CA. I used to drive by it everyday and thought it was a cell tower.

AIRVAV.com indicated that the closest aircraft nav/aid to me is located at Coleman Young Airport in Detroit, Michigan. I got as close as I could by parking in the teachers' lot at Davis Aero Mechanics High School. For more information see: http://www.airnav.com/airport/KDET

Lawrence, MA, USA
I've been planning to visit a local VOR/DME for a long time, but have only now been inspired to go out and log it with the impending archival of all locationless caches.
I had anticipated that I would need to walk up a snow-covered access road to get to the Lawrence VOR/DME, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the FAA must have contracted with someone to plow the access road, as I was able to drive to within a few feet of the gate.
I arrived at the top of the hill shortly before sunrise, and was able to not only see the VOR/DME up close, but catch a photo of the sunrise over the nearby hills.
Thanks for the cache!

Vortac located at Grissom Air Reaserve Base, Indiana. Took these today pics on my check ride. Hope it's OK that I'm not in the pic. There is a picture of the aircraft INS which also has GPS. Costs a lot more than my Garmin. Took it on the way down there for our touch and go's. I am a Boom Operator on KC-135R's out of Selfridge ANGB, MI. Thanks. Included is a bonus pic of Selfridge TACAN. Outer marker for the Gillette Cambell County Airport (KGCC) in Gillette Wyoming. This is a nondirectional radio beacon for runway 34. I gould not get to the middle marker as it is along a private road and they do not use an inner marker in Gillette.
This NDB is located about 2 miles East of the town of Montague CA. Just South of Siskiyou airport which once was home to an air force base.
This radar is a part of the airport Basel Mulhouse. This binational airport serves two different countries (Basel=Switzerland, Mulhouse = France). He is on French area and is from Switzerland with 5 kilometers duty-free road opened.
This NDB is near my Home and my Aéroclub. I am privat Pilot and I use this aircraft Nav/aids for come back after the flight.
nav/aid near schellville airport in sonoma, CA I tried to track this one down on the web it is near 0Q3 see this link: http://airnav.com/airport/0Q3
I have driven by these navigation aids many many times. I decided to stopby today to get a few pictures for the locationless.
There is a couple of differant aids I took pictures of one is the radar (TIMBIT) donut, one is part of the ils system i think. and the others are towers
The are located on the grounds of Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto (it is really in Mississauga), Ontario, Canada

nav/aid in Valdosta GA. Drove by this a few hundred times and decided this is the one to post.
nav/aid at Kenora, ON. Radio beacon at west approach to runway. Very popular strip for corporate jets in summer, just north and east of Lake of the Woods.
This is the part of the navigation system of the airport of Marsa Alam in tthe South of Egypt, next to the Red Sea.
nav/aid at the Airport Essen/Muelheim in Germany. Found it this weekend together with Sternenkriegerin. The strange green building in the background is one of the few "factories" for zeppelins that exist. The are manufactured here and shipped (or would you say flown?) worldwide. You can even book a flight on a zeppelin here, but they are extremely expensive.
This NAV belongs to the Blackwater Creek Ultralight Airport. I wasn't able to get close enough to read any of the siges other than KEEP OUT. So I got as close as I could and took some pics and grabbed the cords. Thanks for the Cache and learning experiance.
This beacon is located in Ottawa Canada. I could only get to within 200 metres of it after driving through a gate with warning signs stating "Authorized Personnel Only". It just so happens the parking lot to the control tower for the MacDonald Cartier International Airport is the only way in. There were cameras everywhere, and I got that weird feeling that I really shouldn't have been there. Pic 1 is the TACAN, 2 is my GPS on dashboard. Here are the particulars:

Some Sportsflyer told me, that it is a Nav/aid.

I have no clue what type this is. I couldnt find pictures of the different types of nav aids. Someone else posted a similar picture, so I can only assume it is correct. That and it is located at Williams Gateway Airport (formerly Williams Air Force Base). You can drive right past it, but they do not give you any place to pull over and park. This was the best we could do to take a photo.

This is the end of the runway 1 (shouldn't it be 01?) at the closed down Shirly airport also known as 9B4. The end marker antennae have been removed about a year ago when it closed down although the runway looks like it's been closed down for at least 10 years. There is a big X through the 1, there also in an X at the middle of the runway and at the other end. But it looks like the actual other end, runway 19 has been covered over with some industrial construction since there is only an X and no 19.
I come near here often to set up my telescope and observe the deep sky, even though there is a maximum security prison not a mile from here, their lights are kind of blocked towards the east, my site has a great view south, west and north and is less than 10 miles from home. You can easily see M19 (at declination -26, about 21 degrees above the horizon) and actually see M62 even closer to the horizon, you do the calculation as to when they are visible.
OOPS, it looks like I don't have my digital picture of this on me so it will be posted tomorrow. P.S. I tried to ask Rentakid if this is acceptable but his mailbox has bounced my mail back for 4 days now. I could get a photo of a NDB but from 400 feet away at another airport near here but no closer since the FBO does not want to drive me any closer.

VOR/DME Butts Army Air Field, Ft Carson Colorado. This one was pretty tough. I was on Ft Carson with security everywhere. The coordinates of the Nav Aid were within view of a second security gate to get near the airfiled. So I could not get out of my car to take photos. I took photos of equipment as I could see it, but am not sure I actually got the VOR/DME. I am retired military, so had access to the Post, but this was in the middle of nowhere, so any activity was the only thing to look at.
VORTAC on Columbus AFB, in Mississippi. It is named Caledonia VORTAC. This is as close as I could get without seeing the business end of a gun...

I've been driving by this for years. I believe this was part of the nearby closed McClellan AFB. It's been transferred to public use so I'm not sure if it is still active.
Seems to be the Inner or Middle Marker of Frankfurt-Hahn-Airport, former known as US-Airbase Hahn.

NDB Modbury 377. This longwave beacon is located 10.7nm from Adelaide airport at a bearing of 40.7 degrees. The location is now in the northeastern suburbs of Adelaide though was probably bush when first installed. Transmitter power is 100 watts. The usual approach path for jets is over the top of this one, though wind conditions may mean take offs happen this direction instead.

I found this Nav Aid for the Oakland International Airport (OAK) in California. One of the roads to the airport passes right by it, but the picture was taken from a further distance where I could park.
Escanaba found this VORTAC at the eastern end of the Boise airport. Couldn't get too close to it so logged the position on the road south of the VORTAC. Also found a good webpage at http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/AERO/navimages/cmanual_vor.html that allows us novices to identify the different kinds of air navigation equipment.
Found this array at the Daytona Beach Airport, Florida. There wasn't any signs around except, do not enter, a local worker just said they were navigational aids, so thats all I know.

Visited this site today as part of a Lincoln Lab tour & BMD technology course. This is the site of the HAYSTACK and Millstone Hill Radars which track air, endo, and exoatmospheric traffic out to 22,000 miles! Now that's some pretty awesome nav aids! The posted picture was gleaned from an approved source since personal cameras are verbotten on-site.
Here's a little more history for the geo-log. The Millstone X-Band radar was built in 1957 with the primary mission of serving as part of America's Air Defense against the Soviet Bear Bomber. It has been upgraded many times since and now has much greater sensitivity to track very small space targets at great distances. It's current mission is to perform Deep Space catalog maintenance, Satellite Launch Coverage, space object identification, and studies and analysis for "geosynchronous encounters," not to be confused with close encounters of a third kind (LOL)! It is quite possible that the Millstone radar was tracking one of the GPS satellites at the very same time the geo-ranger was receiving a NAV solution for this site from the same satellite!!!

These Navaids are found on top of Cedar Mountain in Iron County, Utah. They are referred to locally as the 'golf balls' From the valley floor, they do resemble that. When we were there there was a suspicious man with a microwave doing experiments, but we discovered he was just testing cell phone service (Can you hear me now?)
I found a series of 3 navigation beacons near the village of Sannox on the Isle of Arran, Scotland. I don't know why they are there but there is very large mountain rising almost vertically behind them, so maybe that is the reason. Purple Penguin

This navigational aid is in a field about 12km from home. I've never been up close in all they years I've known about it. Its much larger than I expected.
I'm told is for transatlantic traffic reaching the UK, and on a clear day you can see the jets change direction overhead

This Vortac is located in Andrew County Missouri in the middle of farm country. I will post a closer picture when I get permission from the land owner. They were not home when I visited this location. Our nearest airport is Rosecrans Air field, a Air National Guard Base, in St. Joseph Missouri.
These are some visual flight aids at the small Mt. Comfort Airport about 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis's main airport. I got lucky - just as I was snapping the photo of one of the aids 2 old style fighter(?) planes took off in my lens. Then, 2 sec. later another "cropduster" style plane. And for some reason the Met Life blimp is here - maybe for tomorrow's Indianapolis Colts game.
The navaid can be seen in the distance to the right of the tail of the aircraft pictured. This picture was taken at the Roatan Airport while I was waiting on the tarmac for departure.
