It's amazing how much of a tree is needed for it to live.

01-Sep-23
Spent the day in Mount Wilson visiting some gardens and afterwards continued the drive to Mount Irvine. On arriving at GZ, spotted the clue then walked over to collect the prize. With the cache in hand, we signed the log, then replaced as found. Thanks for the cache All Strung Out.

The following TBs came through for the mileage: Bob geoMinion, Dave geoMinion, Evil geoMinion, Jerry geoMinion, Larry geoMinion, Mary Hyde's Treasure, Stuart geoMinion, teamMerlin's 7 Deadly Ducks Tag (Lust), Vanlith The Youngling, Hidden Creatures Geocoin TB, teamMerlin's Football

Every Good Friday, the family always drive up the mountains somewhere, Mt Wilson is a favourite of ours, but we decided to drive a little further, found a nice spot in the grass for a picnic, and a quick drive up to this cache. Had me stumped for a sec until I saw something quite odd however quite interesting, it was pretty obvious where the cache would be, thanks for bringing here. TFTC.

What a great place for a cache. We were not able to open the cache without damage but sent photos to show we were there. TFTC

14-Feb-23
We would have needed an oversized can opener to get inside the cache, so sent photos to the CO to show we really did find it. I also have the leech for proof we walked in the bush! TFTC

Fabulous cache although I could not open it to sign but took a photo instead.

Quite an easy find in an area we have not explored before, although we have been to the tessellated rocks walking a few times. Living in such a large LGA gives us plenty of scope for walking during these covid times. Cache provided us with a little chuckle. It is in good condition. Signed and replaced. Thanks All Strung Out for placing the cache in this wonderful area.

Now this put a smile on the dial. Out chestnut picking at Mt Irvine. Can't believe this cache and the tree survived the 2019 fires. All good here.

The unburnt pockets are beautiful. Made to feel worse that all these burnt areas are because of the rfs with the natural fires never making here. Tftc tnln not sure what I think of the chainsaw work either.

It's nice to see that some beautiful pockets of bushland and rainforest survived the Gospers Mountain fire. TFTC. Great cache.

01-Sep-19
Out for a fathers day drive. Though I thought Mt Irvine would be a smaller version of Mt Wilson. Literally it is just farms and a community hall and rural fire service. Great cache though. TFTC.

I spend many, many weekends over summer camped and canyoning around the Mount Wilson area. Every time I think I will find this geocache, and every time I decide to leave it until next time. After four years, it was finally time to find it!

My GPSr had me on the incorrect side of the road, but eventually instincts kicked in, and the find was made.

Cheers

Three weeks ago we visited Mt Wilson and cleaned up all the caches, except this one. So today I drove up and turned this smiling cache into a smiley.
Nice hide, and almost a drive in cache Smile

We had been out to Tessellated pavement and on the way home we dropped by to visit this cache. It really is an 'art form'. The tree has been struggling unlike previous image. It really needs rain. Great location TFTC

Wow, I wandered around for about 5 minutes trying not to bush bash when I suddenly spotted the fabulous hide.

Very happy it seems, the small cemetery was interesting as well, still in use it appears.

We were driving slowly along the road when the target area was spotted, which gave us a laugh. Think the cache looked happy to see us too. The container need a fair bit of strength to open, but it did after a struggle and revealed its contents. The log papaer wa signed and all was returned to place and covered over again. Thank you to All strung Out for placing a cache that gave us a really big smile as well as a smiley on our caching map.

What a great cache! We were hunting around on the wrong side of the road and as I walked back up, I happened to look up and spot the tree. This certainly brought a smile to my face, which broadened as I signed the log. Thanks for your creativity and to Mother Nature for her regenerative powers. Thanks also to the previous finders and their photos which helped to keep me on task. Definitely worth a favourite point. Thanks a lot All Strung Out.

This was our first cache for today and what a doozy!
We made the drive down here after packing up camp at the Cathedral Camping Grounds really early.
Parked on the side of the road, a little further up from the cache and made the quick find.
We've really found the new app with trail maps handy.
The cache was a little hard to open and fairly empty but, other than that, in really good condition.

Thanks for bringing us here All Strung Out.

Ah should have paid more attention to the additional hint - tried to walk to the GZ through thick bush via a shortcut (which got us nowhere - certainly not recommendable), so went back onto the road...and finally arrived at GZ. TFTC - we had a great time up here.

21-Jan-17
After a tiring trip down Wollangambie 2 canyon on lilos (it was supposed to be easier than without them) I led my group back to camp at Cathedral reserve. But did I get to rest? Of course not! I still had to find a cache for the day! At least I got to drive almost right up to gz!
I loved the artwork.
Thanks for the cache.

Our first Geo cache - be sure not to try to drive from old bells line road road in from Bilpin end as its blocked off, go in via Mt Wilson

After a fairly lousy morning, this spot gave me something to smile about. Then I moved aside for the kids to see, and they all got smiley faces too.

Thanks Smile

TFTC Thank you for going to the effort of hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity.

I was with the WaywardWoman who wanted to do some caches at Mt Wilson, most of which I had already found. I noticed tis cache, however, further along the road and suggested we look for it, since it didn't seem like it would be too difficult. And it wasn't. When I found the cache the WaywardWoman commented on the holes that had been made in the tree. I hadn't even noticed them as I walked to the cache, following the GPS and caching trail. I went back to the road and then saw what the cache name meant. It brought a smile to my face, too. Thanks

#3274- We continued on from doing the Mount Wilson caches thinking that we could do a loop back to the Bells Line of Road and back home. But we couldn't. At least we managed to get this cache, another that bikerbuddy hadn't done. I loved this cache- the significance of which I spotted as we walked away after finding the cache. It's certainly one for me- the eternal optimist. Glad to see it is back from the brink. A favourite from me.
Thanks

Love Mt Wilson it's llike travelling back in time to the 1920'and 30's. Nice Cache thanks for the Adventure

In Mt Wilson for some canyoning. Heaps of time to spear so caching was certainly in order as well! Favourite for my daughter.

Found with Jordsau. Nice sunny day . On the way to a Rover booting!

29-Nov-14
Found with morry9 at 2:17 PM. We drove up from Sydney around lunch time to attend a Rover friend's booting at the Cathedral of Ferns Camping Grounds at Mount Wilson and decided to tackle some of the caches in the nearby area before the ceremony. We continued past the camping grounds, waiving to our friends as we drove on by, along the beautiful avenue of ferns down and up the winding narrow road onto Mount Irvine. I parked the car off to the side of the main road and we walked up through the bushland towards the published co-ordinates (making it more of a terrain 2 or 2.5 as we were both in thongs). Upon arriving at Ground Zero, it was an easy guess to determine where the cache would be hiding and we soon had the Cache In Hand after that. We Signed the Log and I retrieved the two travel bugs that were resting inside the cache to take to tomorrow's Geocaching NSW Ho Ho Ho - A Geocaching Christmas Party at Putney. I returned the cache and took a snap of the creative art work. Thanks For The Cache All Strung Out and a favourite point awarded for the location and feature which certainly put a smile on my face as well!

ASO, rogerw3 and I had varying coordinates at this GZ. It could be that my GPSr was wrong, but I thought I'd add these suggested coords just in case. Future finders may want to compare their own GPSr readings.

As the Pale Fungus discovered, both GC and GCA maps show the cache somewhere where it's not! (GZ is actually on the EAST SIDE and not the west side of Danes Way.)

But rogerw3 thought the coords were OK.

Anyhow, thanks again for the great cache!

2ndTF @ 1.40 pm

Given that it did seem unlikely to outrun pjmpjm or the Canary, let alone both together, for a prized FTF on an All Strung Out cache it was for an afternoon meander along the Mt Wilson-Mt Irvine road.

And a nice and easy drive it was, a kinder prelude to the 'mushroom bumbled approach to 'Happy'.

There are at least two ways to arrive at the GZ ... the logical, look at the map, look at the map! ... or the illogical unnecessary bush wander through, it has to be said, hardy fire recovery green splashes of new ground cover.

Now, it would have to be said, that after 40+ metres there was wonder in that Mr ASO could sight the 'GZ' from the road for a cache placement, let alone the other 60+ that were also covered till, my gawd, here is another road ... and a 'pumpkin' smile across the way.

Well, that was different ... as was the unexpected ammo can, a joy to find at any time no matter how you get there.

Log signed, but maybe distracted with the 'way to', the trackables placed by the Canary were overlooked. Sad ... then it was for the return ...

Hmmm, the GeoReindeer could be seen far below, but it did seem logical to follow the now found road back rather than tread the new growth once more ... and a nice walk it was, particularly with the green of fern that one would not appreciate otherwise. Still, it was a 2km trek ...

Thank you to the All Strung Out team for the adventure - yes, see, not what you ever planned Smile - and for placing a 'Happy' cache ... by the time I refound the Prince, I was glad to be 'Back from the Brink' SmileSmile

A joint FTF with pjmpjm.

A smiley I found. And now I have a smile on my face.

What a lovely drive out here.

Left two TBs.

Another joint FTF with Team Canary!

Yes, this one brought a smile to our faces . . . and a smilie to our logs!

Dale Lane proved to be the correct entry point, notwithstanding both GC and GCA maps showing GZ (slightly) elsewhere.

We parked very close to the right spot, thanks to the intuition of TC and, despite a slight discrepancy in GPS reading, quickly had CIH.

All was in good order. TNLNSL.

Thanks again to ASO for another cache in the beautiful Mt. Wilson/Mt. Irvine area!

(And thanks too to TC for all the driving!)
