A bit of a scramble to find this one, definitely appreciated the previous logs

Great cache.Wasnt as per coordinates but still found it using past hints.

Top priority for this trip was to find this golden oldie. I had done some extensive research so had the correct coordinates. Quite a scramble to get to GZ. How cool that the log book is still there from 2003, found this log from over 20 years ago of my fellow SA cacher and friend, how cool is that? Thanks so much for keeping this one alive, doubt it will get muggled here! TFTC

Second 2001 cache of the day, and one of a handful for us overall. Glad to add to the tally. As recent finders have noted, the given coordinates are a fair ways off. They were 13m out for me, and my phone said the cache is at S 41 27.366 E 147 07.005.Given the last paragraph, I did a bit more scrambling up the hillside than was required, but it was mostly enjoyable, so not all was lost there. Cache in good nick. Thanks for the adventure and keeping this oldie up and running Smile--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their long lasting, and ongoing connections to land, sea and community. We ventured on as this was a target cache today. We should have read the logs and seen the updated coords as once we had them the cache was quickly found. CC are about 17m south of GZ. Read the logs.Tasmania trip 2024 with Kittykatch. Working to get all states and Territories in a year and counties. First visit to Tassie so excited to experience everything. Thanks for getting me out and about Horus

TasmaniaJoolay and I have travelled to Tasmania on a caching holiday. We are hoping to see as much as we can in four days and find a bunch of caches. We scrambled around for ages but after reading a previous log, we updated the coordinates and found the cache. I have muddy hands and backside but a grin coz we did make the find. Thanks for the hide Horus

TFTC. This cache holder has also started to get eaten by rats. Still in reasonable condition but could use a refresh. Great to grab one of Tassies oldest caches and especially read past logs.

Queenslanders heading up the east coast after completing the 3 Capes Walk.Having 2 nights in Launceston before flying home to rest the knees! These caches were on our must find list. Well - that was the most scary and exciting experience Ive had in a long time!!! Im way out of my comfort zone climbing up steep banks with lots of scratchy bushes!Went up too high then started coming down and searching on my way and - woohoo - there it was. Sooooo happy. Best hour Ive spent in ages. Glad geohubby was there to give me encouragement!!Thanks Horus for looking after this cache

Thanks Horus for hiding this cache, I needed a find for today to update my calendar and find streak. This is my find #1520 at 15:27 on 26/4/2024. A huge thanks to swampy, I probably would still be looking for it. This is day #301 of my streak.

Hi Horus. Today I found your cache which took us a couple of minutes once we deciphered a previous log. I dont recall this cache being in this location last time I found it. Thanks for hiding the cache. Tasmania Trip Day 12. This is my final day on the Tasmanian island. I have two counties left to do and went to visit the two old caches in the Launceston region before making my indirect way to Devonport. The short walks went smoothly and I found enough caches to finish my target of all the counties in Mainland Tasmania. Once I reached Devonport I took a chance to have something to eat and have a rest before lining up to get ion the boat. Not quite as well done here, but we made it. The crossing starts in the rock and roll, unlike the other way. I made it over without any upsetting issues and will head back to Canberra tomorrow. This was my first and main target for the day. I found my way to the start of the trail at the power station end and walked along until I was near GZ. As promised, the GZ was not quite as close to the cache as we expect these days, but with all the trails in the scrub, it did not take too long to get to the right spot. It is great to tick off another oldest cache in a state. Only Victoria to go now. Thanks for the cache Horus46111.1 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & The Great Leap Forward SA 2024 A#541**Albida**

[9035] Holidays on Tasmania, day 11. Today we stayed in Launceston. We hiked the Cataract Gorge up to the old power station in the morning and explored Lanceston and the City Park in the afternoon. It became another great day with perfect weather for a day out. This geocache was part of our tour today, thanks for placing it! It was a pleasure to find it, as I only found 20 geocaches which are older so far and only one other from April 2021. Initially, I walked too far uphill, but on the way back down I found the cache hide. TFTC!

This cache has been on our to do list ever since we arrived in Tassie. With 3 days left before we reboard the boat, today was the day we made a bee line to the duck river powerstation and to finally sign this oldie. I'd read some logs and knew I was in for a challenge, but avoided inputting the updated coords from other cachers. Eventually, I began to get frustrated and resorted to the last suggestion. Still not having much fun, I widened my search from the new coords and finally spotted a place that I thought looked interesting, a little more precarious than the area I was currectly searching but nothing crazy. Moving over to this new spot I noticed an area that I immediately though, "that's where I would hide it". Bingo! cache spotted and signed, lucky nobody was walking past just then because I whooped with joy. Now to get back down. Tftc, FP added for the challenge.

01-Feb-24
Being on my own, and at my age, I did not want to scramble the 25 m up the 45 angle scrub slope. Especially as, because of elevation, this mightve been 50 m or more. Not sure whether Ill ever get another go at this one.

Find # 10585On a brief work trip to Tassie and I have a long list of caches to collect so no time for spinning the wheels Couldnt believe my luck to land this trip before year end so I can soon qualify for a number of different challenges requiring a visit to the 8 S/T in the year. Picked up the trusty SUV hire car on arrival and off I got. Making the most of the opportunity to duck out for a few hours of caching fun. Seeking out the occasional challenge or two, or trying to mop up as many solves as I can to keep that long list under control. Seems to increase faster than it decreases Nice walk along the gorge, short detour, steepish and very slippery. Got there! Awesome to have found this oldie Thanks so much for the many caches Horus and of course for giving me a reason and incentive to get out here, and to experience this part of the world in a different light

12-Nov-23
Reaching duck was found this morning after breakfast and a visit to the snow monkeys enclosure. We parked at the southern end of the gorge and headed in, scrambling for the find. A recent log had helpful info for the updated coordinates and we were able to make a find with a bit of a systematic search. The area is a bit slidey and it was a careful journey back down to the path. Nice to see the old power station and zipline anchor on the way in. TFTC

Found on a trip to Tasmania with pineapplegoldy! Some caches have been signed as "Goldy and Jimmy". Goldy has sent answers and uploaded photos where applicable. TFTC

Goldy and Jimmy are holidaying in Tasmania for a few days. A quick trip away from our regular life to see sights and find caches.I'm aiming to continue my daily streak and fill some Jasmer grid spots. As well as find some challenge caches and as many virtuals as I can. This was our first full day in Tassie and we went to see Mount Wellington and The Great Lake before heading to Launceston. We managed to snag a FTF just off the Tasman Highway at Targa and find some golden oldies in Launceston. This was the last cache of the day, another one I wasn't leaving without. I bush bashed my way up and started searching. I had noted what recent logs had said regarding the coordinates, so I punched those in.An issue arose, however. The GPS was listing the distance to the old coordinates while simultaneously pointing me to the new ones.I wasn't sure what to go by. My Tassie PAF list isn't that big. Out of all my friends who had found this cache, a South Australian contact was the most recent. I rang them and they sent me in the right direction. After a bit more scrambling around, the cache was found.A very cool spot and am so glad to have found this cache! This cache is 11 days older then me!Thanks Jason & Alison Bresnehan for this traditional cache, which brings Goldy's total find count to 3783 on the 10th of November 2023.CITO's are a brilliant way to help keep our community area's clean. The Earth is our playing field and we need to protect it! Always be sure to cache the "leave no trace" way!**South Australia is the place be for GCA1DNA - February 29th, 2024 in Adelaide! Hope to see you at The Great Leap Forward!**

Located with Ricardinho RNZ went for a good bush bash to find this one. He struggled to locate it & consulted old logs for the pointers he needed. I was glad he found it because this was one of a handful of caches he was desperate to get as it was an oldie Day 12 of our Tassie/Sydney trip, and today is Launceston & exploring the Cataract Gorge.Weather wasn't really playing ball in the morning but we didn't let it stop us & up side was a few less people at the Gorge The scenery is beautiful here even on an overcast rainy day & the sun did occasionally sneak out too After lunch we explored city park & I enjoyed the monkeys And last outing of the day was a quiet walk around city streets admiring all the beautifully maintained old homes while RNZ sorted the church caches he'd solved the day before. Another awesome day in Tassie TFTC

22-Oct-23
The main target cache for today. I enjoyed the little bush bash up, but struggled to find it. I consulted some old logs and took some new coordinates from them. I used:S 41 27.367 E 147 07.007Loaded those and spotted it straight away. Would have been tough otherwise, especially in this wet.TFTC Jason and Alison.Day 12 of our Tassie trip, and today is Launceston. We didnt have the best of weather this morning, but this is our only full day in the town and we have to make the most of it, so we were off to Cataract Gorge for starters. We sifted around there enjoying the scenery and wildlife, scraping together enough info for some earthcaches and visiting an oldie just up the track a bit.The afternoon fined up a bit, so we explored some inner city parks before going for an afternoon walk to nut out church micros and look at old houses, something close to RG72s heart.Another great day, loving exploring this state.

Jetstar was having a sale…. in the middle of winter, for a destination further south than I already live. That sounds like a great idea!

So a plan for a 4 night whirlwind tour of the northern part of the state was hatched. I’ve seen lots of this beautiful state, but haven’t found a single cache. With plenty of challenges to tick off, and a long list of targeted caches, this week is the time to turn that around.

It’s the final day for this trip, leaving St Helens for Launceston via more of the coast and then inland through Campbell Town and Ross.

A golden oldie I was keen to add to my collection, however as many have commented (and in the description) the coords are quite a bit off. I widened my search area and continued searching back and forward, widening the radius each time until finally the cache was before me, much further south than expected.

Thanks for keeping this old treasure alive!

Thanks Horus for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.

So great to find an oldie.
I used the coordinates that a few had included in their logs, which facilitated a quick find in the first place I searched - after a quick scan of likely spots.
A nice sunny day, although plenty of shadows too, and the track is quite popular today.
Up north for a couple of nights on family business.
Despite being a former Launnie lad who spent heaps of time at the Gorge and First Basin, I have no recollection of ever being to the Duck Reach Power Station area; so thanks for bringing me here.
Thanks so much, for this caching experience.
Cheers, EPs.

WOW
Today my muggle friend and I have walked all around the gorge taking in the sights and exploring the area.
I had this cache on my to do list so I was on a mission to find it before we went home today. It was one of my last finds for the day and it took a bit to find but I finally found it and sign the log of this old cache.
It has been an enjoyable day and I’m sure we clocked up over 10,000 steps!

Target cache for the day successfully found! Very happy to have this one ticked off. It has been a great journey in Tassie and loved caching here.

Used the updated coordinates and spoiler although the best tip is to keep climbing!

Horus, I found Reaching Duck today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

Up this way again to drop off a mate to pick up his Motor-Home from Low Head.
With that done i was free to grab Caches (Mainly targeting Old Caches and those with high FP's) between here and Launceston where i "had" planned to stay tonight but the place is near on booked out so in hindsight, i found as many as i could then made a dash for home in HBA, later in the afternoon.

I was really looking forward to finding one of Tassie's oldest Caches and to sign this 'Old Gentleman' Cache's log book.
Parked the GeoMobile at the end of Corin St then made my way along First Basin Track to stunning views of this Gorge. In the GZ area i was struggling to find it. I went into past logs and noticed a set of Co-ords so i tried them and after a 5 minute longer search which had me about 5 or so metres further away i eventually found what i'd been looking for. Yes! I love finding caches this old not to mention the beautiful choice of location it was hidden in. Awesome Stuff!! A Favorite Point is gladly surrendered here Cool
I had to tell myself during the search this was hidden in 2001, when Geocaching was in it's infancy so co-ordinates will not be dead on... I just did as all cachers do - **widen the search** Big Grin

Had a look through the older log book, delighted by the way Cachers used to sign logs with a short story or paragraph of the hunt and find.

Signed the newer log book at 14:43 on Tuesday 21 March 2023
Thanks for bringing me here and showing me such a wonderful area [I will be back for sure].
Thanks For The Golden Oldie Cache (TFTGOC) Jason & Alison Bresnehan / Horus + Yorick Smile

What an amazing location, and how special to do such an old cache. We had to find this one as part of another Old School Challenge. Thanks for taking over! I can’t believe that the cache is been there for over two decades!!

11-Mar-23
Over the long weekend xxDouDouxx and I made a plan to knock off several challenge caches including caches from "Old School Challenge" GC44WV0 and "Tasmanian Mainland LGA Challenge" GC8CGMX, as well as a few caches for various statistic grids. I'm happy to say LGA is now complete and Old School is well on the way. A fantastic, busy, and adventure filled 3 days was had, covering 1500km from Huonville, to Ben Lomond, then Georgetown, across the top to Burnie, down through Waratah, Queenstown, and back to Huonville. Lots of great caches, new places to explore, fantastic views, and interesting locations...

Really enjoyed this area, crossing the suspension bridge, seeing the hydro power station, etc. Great spot for one of Tassie's oldest caches Smile

Decided to do the Cataract Gorge with Net61 today.

We bumped into another carload of NZ Geocachers on our Tour and when they mentioned this was an old cache we were very keen to do it!

All good here...Juse E went on ahead and found this while I was trying a slightly different place to scramble up .

Thanks for keeping this going!

After a steepish climb the cache was found and the log signed. Such a beautiful area.

I am touring Tasmania with a group of Kiwi cachers. I’m looking forward to seeing the countryside, the towns and cities, finding lots of caches.

Logs signed GNTJ for GraciesGPSfun, NZ_B, TrinityNZ and Jude_E.

Kia ora rawa atu for the cache Horus.

I’m in Launceston for a week-long geocaching trip with some other New Zealand cachers. We spent a few days in Hobart, and then we have a few days in Launceston. This is day 6 of our trip - we are heading back to Hobart tomorrow before flying out on Sunday.

Today I was out and about with NZ_B, GraciesGPSfun and Jude_E. It was the hottest day of our trip so far. We started off the day by visiting Cataract Gorge, and completing the Adventure Lab there. Following that, it was a short walk to this cache, where Jude_E found the cache, which was great to find as it’s a 2001 cache.

Thanks for the cache in this great location. Log signed as GNTJ.

Geocaching has made me surpass myself several times and here, it's still the case! I really thought I couldn't do it, it's slipping, I'm alone and a little cowardly but with perseverance and having retrieved the last coordinates in one of the logs, I go down and then I take the right path this time. Come on, with the help of the trees, I finally arrive at the box!
It's a superb reserve, I met lots of animals, I'm delighted!
Thanks Jason & Alison Bresnehan for the cache
Greetings from France

Used the other coordinates from previous finds and regretted not bringing a trackable to drop into here. Great views and a nice walk along this track.

Today we are on the move, heading from Hobart up to Launceston. We decided on a route up across the Highlands and via the Great Lake and the day was cool as 11 degrees at it's lowest and finished the day in mid-30s in Cataract Gorge.

We had a weeks holiday booked in Tasmania as a way of celebrating mrs capperz's 60th birthday. What can I say but WOW. What an awesome state and was everything we'd seen and heard about this gem of a place. My main PQ had only Earthcaches and Virtuals and aside from an old cache for my missing month stats I only turned the GPS on when we were stopping somewhere anyway, what a great way to tour a place. Managed one complete set of Ad Labs at the airport, and started another 6 adventures with no intention to complete. Over 50 'real' caches were completed and left behind a couple of trackables to continue their journeys.
I will upload the associated pictures and answers over the next few days or so, need to start to make a dent in my finds backlog.
Oh, and thanks to all COs for their hides, much appreciated for this New Zealander.

In Tasmania for 2 weeks to attend the Oceania Orienteering Champs. Caching all around for DT combos and counties. Cache easily found, thanks to corrected coords in previous logs. Took TB. Superb views of the river on the way to and from the cache. TFTC.

Out by myself today exploring the local area and finding a few caches on the way.
It's great to see some of these older hides still surviving in Tasmania. Well done to all the cache owners down here to keep them going.
Using co-ords from a previous finder the GPS pointed me to GZ and the cache was easily found.
This is nice area and an enjoyable place for walk to a cache or two.

Found while traveling around Taz with Mrs and son. We are visiting in Launceston Currently doing some in this area. Since I'm staying nearby, I had to come and do the oldest in Taz. The find was relatively quick when using the previous listed coords, bringing it back in line for the D rating. The slope was a bit daunting for a old fella, but got there in the end without falling. The walk was sorted at reaching duck car park and the water roared all the way to GZ. The lid only clips on one side so used a rock to keep it down.
Signed log and Cache replaced as found.
**Thanks For The Cache** Horus.

This makes a grand total of 3895 at 10:32AM on this Friday the 25th of November in the Year 2022

Day 7 of my Tasmanian Odyssey and today it’s all about Bicheno and a few select caches around Launceston…

With TinkerTom1 as my driver we left early, Tasmanian early, and enjoyed sometime in Bicheno… High on our successes in Bicheno we turned back towards Beaconsfield and hit some caches on my list…

This cache was a must do for this trip, it’s helps my JASMER…. So a very special thanks to TinkerTom1 for making it possible…

We used S 041° 27.369' E 147° 07.007' successfully..

I’d pre-loaded the alternate coordinates and studied the pics… all of which made this a much quicker find than it could have been… The roar of the water just made this all the more exciting…

Tftc… I’m very happy we got to visit here today…

Definitely the oldest cache I have found and definitely work the effort! The climb was quite steep and a bit muddy due to wet weather. The gorge is still flowing quite dramatically (Photo) and a bit too windy to try the suspension bridge but maybe another day TFTC Smile

I have grouped this traditional cache generic log pertaining to each CO. I shall only deviate from the generic if there was an issue with the cache Big Grin.

I would like to thank all of you for your time and effort in placing and maintaining your caches, and this generic log has nothing to do with disrespecting your time in placing them out there, as it has to do with time restraints due to the great number of caches my partner dalerious and I signed here.

EACH and every cache we visited was special, and we thank you so much. Most were chosen to qualify for Challenge caches both here and on the mainland Razz.

There are too many of you to name individually so please accept that I acknowledge you all and I am truly grateful for your contribution and understanding Cool.

We had this trip to Tasmania on our wish list very soon after we met. The meticulous planning began a few months ago when we finally set a date to sail to a place that I had been before, but never cached, and for dalerious, a place he cached, but never really got to see the real beauty of this place, and all it's glory. God's country about sums it up.

We started our adventure in the North West and traversed the entire Island in 10 days. We thought the weather was going to thwart our plans, but all it did was change the itinerary a tad.
Where back home was flooding, we had mostly sunshine here; apart from the North of your lovely state, and our thoughts were with those who were affected both here and at home.

Caches here took us to extraordinary places; one's we will never forget.
We also got to meet some cachers; we can't wait to meet the rest Big Grin.

This was a fantastic adventure. We used a few tips from previous catchers (with a 6 year old I didn’t have time to search as long as some have!). My personal tip: this cache has been in the same place for 20 years - remembering that was what helped us find it. It took maybe ten minutes of searching and five minutes of trail finding. We came from below. The most fun I’ve had searching for a cache in ages.

This is a cache i have had on my bucket list for a while now and on a hot sunday afternoon i decided to go and grab it. I rode my bike and parked it on the road above the cache hoping that coming down onto it would be fairly easy. I must have taken the worst route to the GZ as my route back uo was alot easier (less bushbashing) Smile. Finally i reached the GZ incredibly dehydrated as i hadnt brought any water with me on this bike ride. (not the smartest decision). I started my search using Diadems log and looking in all the spots where i would put a cache, which in the state i was in was pretty much everywhere. After about 10 minutes i finally found the cache. A great find, feels good to turn this one into a smiley. Smile

Cast your mind back 18 years. And a fews days more if you please. You will have returned to a time when I was quite new to geocaching, and I was trying to show my touring companions what geocaching is all about. There were six of us this day, which should have aided in the search. They had liked Trex Treasure and so to this one we moved.

And it all went a bit sideways. We picked the wrong way to the cache. I second guessed whether I entered the coords into the GPSr correctly, and I didn’t have the printout - oh, the days of paper caching Smile So we, as my DNF log attests, didn’t find the cache.

Now return to the present day. I had an opportunity to try again, so I took it. I read a few log, and came in from a better angle too. And I had my phone with maps - the luxury. When I got close I saw a place that my experience now tells me “that’s where I’d hide a cache”.

Can I hear you asking “surely it can’t be that easy?” And my reply is that would be the other parallel universe. I just had to turn up dressed in business attire! Not good for scrambling over slippery rocks. I struggled and ended up putting my face into bushes to keep good hand-holds. But I got to the spot, and sure enough there was a cache in there.

A lot of effort, but we’ll worth it. Retrieved a TB I did. Then getting out of here was the next challenge. Did I mention my attire - particularly my shoes? I started to think getting in was the easy bit. A slide here a scratch there and a bit of mud rubbed in as well, and I was out. A cache hunt to remember.

An oldie placed on April fools day. Only one way to find out if we were going to be the fools today. And if we were, the walk along the gorge was worth it.

At GZ had all the facts bandied about so in we went. Realised the promised land was out of sight from the path and that is where our search started. Next part was to look for a clearing and after some clambering over dead tree parts a likely spot was spotted, and shortly after the cache. Special thanks to Jason & Alison Bresnehan et all for keeping this oldie active.

This old cache was only 1km from our temporary residence while in town, so it was of course a must grab. Enjoyed the walk down along the gorge and made the find using the alternative coords provided and used a photo to help us zone in.

Down in the Apple Isle with JACS and TeamARF for a week or so to hunt some caches and traipse about having adventures. Fab puzzles and wonderful countryside. Awesome caches all round! We are thoroughly enjoying this adventure and grabbing some very well maintained oldies awesome locations. The aim was Tassies oldest and visiting some cute towns today plus some tricky maths!!! And of course for my benefit a cemetery or two! Tftc

I came and had a quick look for this yesterday but I soon realised it would require a bit of a search. I had muggle hikers with me and didn’t want to hold them up. Today I ran from home to the gorge as part of marathon training and made attempt number 2. I wouldn’t have found without updated coordinates. Thanks for the cache. Nice to get an oldie!

Scrambling up the loose slope was a little scary, but we made it. Amazing little walk!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aquilus1 and I have been on a mission.....a mission to collect Australian states/counties. The target this time was Tasmania, with neither of us having found a cache yet in Tassie. So a loop was planned, starting/finishing in Lonny (even the plane pilot called it this!! Love that!). I was driving so my logs are a little more generic than Aquilus1's, my apologies.

Day #1 Leave Canberra at sparrows, transiting through Melbourne and collecting our car....first things first was to get the oldies along the cataract gorge, which was great as Aquilus1 had never been to Tassie before and its a great place to start. Onwards up the Tamar and then zigzagging across through Devonport, Burnie and eventually ending at Stanley.

Day #2 had us go back to Devonport for a FTF......yay! Then onto Hobart, via Queenstown! Long day through blizzards, hydro power and SO MUCH NOTHING! Beautiful nothing of course Smile

Day #3 around Tassie.....into Huon valley, freezing to death in the water in Clarence, passed Port Arthur to see some caves and ending up in Sorrell

Day #4 was power trailing large letterboxes until we had to head back north to Lonny, via Buckland, Oatlands, Fingal and Scottsdale..... dodging wildlife after dark.....so scary!

Day #5 was a quick duck over to Flinders and back..... car rental place thought we were nuts! Then back to Canberra, safe and snug under my blanket for the -5 night.....now THATS cold!

This was very cool. First cache in Tassie and a 2001 is a great start and this was a great walk. It was super chilly when we arrived but after the walk it's toasty warm now! Spectacular river!

Trip log: Day 1 of our 5 day Tassie caching trip. With GreyHams we left Canberra very early and landing in Launceston it was a full day caching through till Stanley where we stopped for the night having found accomadation available.

Counties where our priority and with GreyHams awesome trip planning we had a list featuring some very select caches... as is always the case with our trips, if your cache made our list it had a quality we wanted, oldies, larges, counties, Jasmer loops featured high.

Snippets of history and scenic locations appeared through the day. It must be said it was damn cold at times yet some earlier walks had us down to T-shirts and the rain luckily passed through during one of the long drive stretches! The Esk river was great as was the Kimberley warm springs, so great to finally visit Tasmania, a first for me. Thanks for your cache that guided us on a full and enjoyable day!

This was on D@geo list for it's age, I guess my too.
This cache cost someone a set of glasses, free gift to the finder.

We are on our tassie caching adventure.
We solved so many puzzle caches, more than we can find in the short time we are here.
Also we have a list of other cache of interest to find.

Out caching with D@geo
Thank you for the Cache Jason & Alison Bresnehan

Found with gwd.aussie while enjoying a tassie caching adventure. Before leaving Victoria we solved many caches so there are plenty of caches we want to grab (not only solved caches but old caches, favourited caches, challenges and caches that help with challenges) however sadly we will not be able to find them all.

We scrambled around for 20 minutes or so attracting a curious dog that came to investigate but was called to heal by owner who thankfully had not spotted us. On widening our search the cache was found nicely tucked away in its hide. However the search still continued for sunglasses that were never found.

Thanks Jason & Alison Bresnehan for maintaining and keeping this cache going.

There are not too many caches near us in QLD that fill this month for the Jasmer grid. So when we knew we were going to Tassie I made sure it went on the list of ‘must finds’.
We got down to 20m on the GPS so it was time to go off track and crawl through the bush, which resulted with a few twigs and and leaves in the hair. All worth it though to find this cache and add our names to a bit of geocaching history. Cache was in good condition and great to see old logs in there too. Thanks for keeping this cache going.

In Launceston again for appointments, so have become determined to make the travelling count by logging a few caches on each visit. This is the last one required to fulfill the requirements of GC94QX0 "20 Years Caching in Tasmania" by 2y'stassies hidden on 4.1.2021
Track quite busy, but managed to go "off piste" without being seen, and was not "pissed off' by the experience of mountain climbing as an (almost) 70 y.o. ! Took into account the comments of previous cachers as we did want to log this one in the 20th year anniversary of Geocaching. Thankyou to all involved in keeping this oldie in play.

The trip to Tassie became even more worthwhile when I saw I could track down a few classics. After a trek into Jerusalem Walls and The Never Never, you could say this was a wander in the park EXCEPT that being ‘old school’, my dodgy PHONE GPS was about 20 metre out! Having said that, there’s numerous leads and false leads if u have the time. Excited to sign away! A great yippeee moment. TFTC and a fave for keeping it going.

Heading for a stroll around on the sunny side of the gorge, I spotted a cache with a few favourites before finding it was a 2001 hide! Leaving the track somewhere near 25m , I followed the pad to where the people seem to get to before checking logs and hints; like I did. Searching with the aid of the image provided, I had no luck for 20mins or so. The only option left was to follow a small pad south opening to something that looked more like what I had come for! TFTC!!!

TFTC,
Today was day 2 of our stay in Launceston during our COVID-19 2021 escape to Tasmania that almost didn't happen. Our goal today was to get the local Old School Caches and if time permitted the one near Derby.
We followed the path to within 23m of GZ and went bush thinking it would be easy. Up and up to a point where we searched from and nothing. Widened our search and after another 10 minutes still nothing. What is goung on here and back to GZ believing we missed it. No luck and it was time to realise this is an Old School Cache I followed the same rules I would adopt in my search at home in NSW.
As soon as I did, I saw something and a Xbox closer search showed us rhe cache. Singned and photographed the log before replacing as found. Thanks for keeping this going, adding a favourite and visited trackables.

In Tasmania for a quick holiday with Wazza9, today was the day to find the old school caches in Lauceston, this one was 1st on the list, parked nearby, walked along the track, to near GZ , then a scramble up the hill, we both searched for quite a while, following previous geotrails with no luck, then Wazza9 extended his search and located the nicely tucked away container. Signed the 2 log books, left a trackable to continue it's journey. Thanks to Horus for continuing to keep this cache going.

dalerious was keen to locate this precious old cache, but doubted he would be successful.
I was just the navigator and support team.
He scrambled up the side of the cliff like the hero that he is.
So delighted to have our names added to the the log here.
Thankyou so much for the placement and location of this historic cache.
A favourite point from us for the antiquity, and the wonderful views we saw en route to ground zero.

This was a target cache for me while visiting Launceston this week. Got to love an Old School cache! ️

The youngest of our tribe were needing to catch up on everything internet , so dabom81 and myself decided to go for an afternoon stroll in the gorge. We were not disappointed. Beautiful views and leaving a smiley here made my day Smile Always have time for the oldies!

Thanks for the cache Jason and Alison and Horus Big Grin

Caching is guiding our travels as we enjoy a range of hides highlighting interesting places on our Tasmania holiday. This cache was one of many targets but maybe we could have parked a bit closer and done less walking. Instead we parked on the other side of the gorge and walked down to Duck Reach Power Station and across the suspension bridge which was an interesting history lesson with photo opportunities. We were very pleased to be rewarded with the find after such a big walk.
Thank you for your cache and helping us work towards some of our caching goals by filling in such an old date on the geocaching calendar.

Didn't notice this was on the map until walking on this trail and I thought I'd quickly get a cache on the way. And turns out it is a very old cache from 2001!
It wasn't exactly quick as it was a good distance from the track and on a rough hill covered in bushland.
Eventually found it and it was interesting looking at the old logs dating back to 2003 in it!
TFTC and thanks to Horus for maintaining this.

Hello Horus thank you for the cache

I parked at the car park at Denison grove and walked down the track before climbing up the bank and starting a lengthy search before eventually finding the cache at S41° 27.369' E147° 07.000'.
It was great to find this Old School cache.
From here I walked up the hill through the bush to where I parked the car.
This was the third cache of my 16 hour road trip to find some Old School caches.

Woohoo!
Thanks for the cache Horus.

RLD4963, the GeoGSP and I were headed north for a couple of days and we had a few particular caches earmarked to find. RLD4963 is aiming to complete the Old School Challenge, and as this cache is on that list as one of the oldest caches in Tasmania, this was one we were keen to find.

We parked and made our way to GZ, and from there we searched and searched and searched. We checked hints and previous logs and checked our coordinates, and we continued searching. After about 45 minutes, one of us was ready to call it quits, but this cache was a bit of a must, so we continued searching, it had to be here. We referred to the most recent logs and used the information in those and we continued searching, and soon after the cache was spotted. Yay - definitely an old school search. Very tricky on this steep slope with the 30kg GeoGSP also sniffing and hunting and getting tangled around trees, but we got there! The cache itself is still in great condition.

Feel very lucky to find this one, and to turn it into a smiley on the geocaching map.

07-Jan-20
First full day on our Tasmanian holidays and one of the core areas to check out was Cataract Gorge. Using geocaching as a guide, instead of tourist destinations, we came straight to this location.

We all had a blast enjoying the views walking to this location and then after finding the Cache, heading to the Bridge and the old Power Plant. While so.e of us walked across the bridge and explored the old building, some of the family window onto the rocks and enjoyed jumping over the rocks and water. No mishaps from the swing bridge or rock/water jumping.

We had the Coordinates as S 41° 27.369' E 147° 07.007'
Eventually I found the cache in good condition at these coordinates when asking myself where I would have hidden it. However guessing the area has changed a lot since it was first hidden, some 19ish years ago.

Thanks for the cache Jason & Alison Bresnehan

Given this is one of the oldest caches in Tasmania, I thought I'd better go and find it. So today, on my way back from a quick trip to the north, I parked at the loop on Corin Street (near where I used to live) and made the walk down from there. A walk along the track was uneventful.

When on the path below GZ I started to look for the easiest approach to this cache. In the end I chose to make a start up a trail just above the top of the stairs. After a couple of spots which needed more of a climb than a walk, I thought I was roughly at the right elevation to make an initial search further north and I could see the terrain would allow this. Just before turning I saw something suspicious to the south and sure enough it was the cache.

Log (replacement log from 2003) was signed. I took a reading which was S 41° 27.369 E 147° 07.007; which was approximately 17m south from where the GPS said I should be, but it was on the side of a steep hill so what did I expect.

On the way back to the car I came across what looked like a juvenile blue tongue - wouldn't have been bigger than my hand - and stopped to look, as I saw a snake about 1m further from where I was going- light brown top with a glorious red belly - scurry off into the drainage pipe under the path.

Now it turns out that I know the original hider from a previous life (maybe 3 years before this cache) as a supplier for some of their entrepreneurship endeavours.

TFTC Jason & Alison Bresnehan and thank you Horus for taking over maintenance of this cache.

Tasmania Day 4: Scamander - Bay of Fires - Launceston - Devonport

From the East Coast, we drove up to see the iconic Bay Of Fires, before heading across the island to Launceston to see the famous Cataract Gorge and for lunch, before driving the remaining distance to our accommodation in Devonport. Today brought a mix of urban and countryside caches, which was a welcome change of diversity. The most important goals were the two oldest caches in Tasmania in Launceston which were both achieved and found, so a very good day all round. Thanks for all the caches!

This is the specific log for this cache:
It’s hard to understate the importance of this cache for this trip. This was one of the few caches that fills up gaps in the Jasmer, so it was a must-do, and one that I would brave rain or shine to get. Luckily, it was in a scenic spot, so the family could be left to their devices at Duck Reach, while I headed out to brave the slopes to get this one. The half-kilometre walk was nothing out of the ordinary, but man... the last few metres were one heck of a scramble. Through branches and bramble, I headed up and up. Loose rocks and soil made the ascent slippery, but I managed to find the geotrail (didn’t help that I have one slightly bad ankle). Within spitting distance of the likely GZ, I found the scramble too precarious, so took a longer detour and approached from above. Yet more scrambling through the bushes finally brought me to the GZ, where a few mistaken looks into nooks were made until the motherlode was found. Praise the geocaching gods! Gotcha! Signed in, slipped down the slope and headed back to the carpark a little worse for wear, but damn did it feel so good. TFTC and the fun and for keeping it alive all these years so that the mad people who play this game can have a gander at this one!

How far can a duck reach?

While in Tasmania with PlagueRider, we stopped at a few geocaches as we wandered around from place to place exploring this little gem down under. This was one of the ones that we found. Nice hike to get to this one, but we had to expand our search to find it. Thanks to all cache owners for putting these out here for us to hunt!

From 23.09 until 24.11.2019 Stadibast and I spent our holidays in Australia.
During the first four weeks we drove with a camper van from Darwin to Perth along the West coast and its amazing national parks, in which we made several hiking tours.
After that we flew to the wonderful green Tasmania for a roundtrip lasting two weeks.
For the last three weeks we went back to the continent and followed the South-East-Coast from Melbourne to Sydney.
We had impressive nine weeks in Australia, in which we hiked through various national parks, visited interesting sights and met many friendly and helpful people.
Thanks to all owners for setting and maintaining their caches.

Visiting Launceston and picking up a few caches whilst I have some spare time and this one was on my to-do list.
Had a lovely walk with awesome scenery until it was time to go bush bashing and thats where the fun stopped. Well I searched & searched, oh the endless possibiities were doing my head in but I've come this far so I'm not giving in just yet! After widening my search by approx 18 mtrs, I finally spotted the good hide.
All good with the cache and I'm as happy as Larry that I didn't throw in the towel and leave empty handed.

Had some time before I fly out so thought I would end my streak here.. Ended up finding cache quite quickly which was surprising. Beautiful morning to be out and about however I almost got caught coming out of the bushes by a runner on the track! Thanks for the cache.. Is it the first in tas or first in Launceston?

I believe this was the second cache in Tasmania, the first has long gone and I think was called North Tassie on Reatta Road near the Cable hang Gliding site.

I haven't cached in years and recently visited this cache site, my goodness the shrubs have grown a lot in recent times - good luck to anyone looking for it now, I tip my hat to you.

A great place to stop and stretch the legs whilst travelling north. That's another old school cache ticked off! Found the cache about 20m away from our GZ but once we checked the photos we soon located it. TFTC!

Day 21 of my trip from Adelaide and my penultimate day in Tasmania.

I spent the day pottering around the broader Launceston area seeking out a few caches that I had targeted. There was plenty of walking and plenty of ups and downs. The weather was a bit variable - mostly cloudy and drizzling on and off. I finished up finding a nice variety of caches including traditionals, puzzles, multis, a wherigo and an earthcache.

This old cache was one of my targets today. It was quite a pleasant stroll along the trail then a bit of a scramble up the hill to GZ. It didn’t take long and the cache was found. I picked up the two geocoins to move on.

Thanks Jason & Alison Bresnehanfor the cache.
