TYFTC. Hard earned, due to out-of-date photos, but worth it in the end, because I FOUND IT!
This was an awesome find, took a little bit of thought due to some of the photos missing or changed, the actual cache was awesome to grab, did this with aza34, tftc
April 17, 2024 10:04Springwood PostFound with AidenEL we went off track a few times as some of the photos no longer exist in the world. What a lovely walk nonetheless!TFTC Toriaz, this is find #100 for me. Aza34
Awesome to find another one of these original type of letterboxing caches! Reminds me of the old Tankengine one back in Canberra which is also a crowd favourite! I was staying in Springwood for 1 night so decided this would be a good start to my stay here Managed to follow the photo's as best as I could, with some things slightly different, but still solvable with a bit of intuition! Even the very last photo (40) doesn't look like that anymore, however the photo before it (39) is still exactly as it appears so is a good indication that you have reached the correct location when you find the remaining planks of the "bridge".I found the GCA cache first. Honestly I wouldn't have even found it, if you didn't suggest it, LOL. The projection took me the correct way in the first place but I was just curious to see what this other container at the stump was. I didn't sign it though, which I regret as I could have claimed it on GCA as well, even though I don't really play the game. I then went the correct direction and soon found the real cache container! And yes, that is what I call a cache container! although I think it is slightly more than 7 metres! TFTC Toriaz
Id seen this one on my map when visiting Springwood before and it looked like a fun field puzzle so today I went out with Irondale to track down each of the pictures. Some have changed or gone missing over the years but we were able to find enough things to lead us to the cache. Picked up the GCA cache at GZ as well TFTC
[Finally submitting some logs that have been in draft for ages!]This was an interesting take on a puzzle, and I enjoyed it... except for the parts that no longer exist, which caused me to head in the wrong direction several times, and took much longer to reach the cache than it should have. It's been 9 years since the photos were uploaded; they really need to be updated! The first 10 photos were fine, but I couldn't find 11, 12, or 13 and went quite a long way off course at this point. After backtracking to photo 10 twice, I went to Google and eventually worked out where 11 used to be. I figured number 14 must be *there* - although obviously plants and trees don't look quite the same as they did 9 years earlier - and then couldn't find 15. I did see photo 16, but there's several of those in different places... I kept walking and hoped I was still going the right way.I found 17 and 18, phew.Couldn't find 19 or 20 - 20 has probably long since been replaced.Found 21 - at least, I was pretty sure I had. Hopefully I can find the next few to help me know for sure?Nope, couldn't find 22, or 23, or 24, or 25... or 26... there's plenty of places around me where these could be, I felt like I was in the right area, I just couldn't spot these exact features. Was I supposed to be on another path nearby?*Oh thank god, I found 27.* I was actually still scrolling between photos 22 and 25 for the most part, because I didn't know what distance those photos covered and whether I should still be looking for the early 20s or if I should be looking further along, and eventually scrolled down further, only to recognise photo 27!! I had already passed it! Okay, finally, I know I'm on the right path. What a relief. The rest of the journey was a little easier since there were no more corners to take. Photos 38 and 39 were quite recognisable, thank goodness, although even they should have updated photos taken, as they look different now. And after wandering close to GZ for a bit, I took the plunge and found the cache. Awesome to see a good-sized one out here!Overall, I loved the idea of this cache, it just needs a bit of periodic updating (every 2-3 years) so people like myself don't end up anxious about whether they're going the right way. Thanks Toriaz for the fun cache!
Really enjoyed this one, great to do something different. Photos were clear to follow. Fav point from us TFTC
Really enjoyed this cache, great way to start the morning, lovely adventure. Tftc and a fave from me ️
Found with my daughters, eemiaj while caching around the Blue Mountains area, visiting from the Hunter Valley area, the 4th and final day of our visit.
What an enjoyable cache, and a beautiful place for GZ. TFTC

#3070 Finally got the opportunity to attempt this letter box cache. Some of the early photos didn’t quite match the current locale but managed to find my way to photo 40. Using just my phone and a good knowledge of geometry I located the hide after a short search. Lots of insects around after the recent wet conditions. Thanks for a great walk through some beautiful landscape.
Round 2, found it! Was a fun and nice walk in some cases skipping a few WPs but in the end found. Had a bit of water but dried it out. TFTC
Nice walk. A couple of points were missing, so just looked ahead and found the path. Tftc
TFTC. I couldn't find 11 and 12 but after awhile, Allfie77jc1, and I located 13. Awsome cache.
I've started this one several times, but today I made it all the way to the Post Office. Great 'Town and Country' walk. OCW Brewmaker. TFTC
With lockdown over, I made a trip up the M4 to The Bluies to meet up with with EH. We had started this many moons ago, and after getting some intel from the CO at an event earlier in the year, we had an idea of where the trail might lead us.
Today we followed our feet and soon had the posts to note, and finally got to #40. It was a bit different to the one on the cache page with a couple of boards missing, but we figured we were in the right location. A quick estimation and we had GZ in our sights for CIH. I always enjoy finding an ammo can in the bush. Have a FP for a different kind of cache and for getting us out in the wild once more. TFTC

We missed the last photo point on the way to get forbidden fortress... on the way back I just caught a glimpse the timber’s under the leaf litter!! One of my fav walks near home! Beautiful as ever even if a little wind blown. TFTC
Been here second time with team trashy after going to forbidden fortress couldn’t find this one when heading down team trashy saw some old timber on the grind so we decided to check and we found it
Out with the full compliment of the NSW GOM Chapter after the event. What a great little tour! After following the breadcrumbs we made a quick find.

Another cache that was on my radar today. Having lived in Springwood for 25 years I knew many of these photos from memory so today I started the search from photo 33 and it didnt take long to be at GZ. After a short search the cache was in hand and the log signed. Left a travel coin.
The sad part of this cache was the disappointment of not seeing my old scout hall. Many memories of my youth were spent down in that hall.

An enjoyable autumn day in the bluies starting with breakfast at Hazelbrook and then the annual Bluies event. An unsuccessful FTF hunt had us collecting a few others on our journey and always nice to grab another letterbox for the stats.
Had looked at this previously but the number of waypoints discouraged that effort. With a bit more time up our sleeves this afternoon, we thought we'd at least get a start. The waypoints flew past much quicker than expected and were easy to follow. We missed a few along the way but there was never a problem picking up the scent again. Took a moment to find our favourite type of box at GZ and happy to add our name to the log. Very enjoyable adventure and location.

Up in the Bluies for the event and other GOM missions. By this stage in the afternoon our numbers had diminished a little but Crash was keen to increase this letterbox finds closer to the magical 100 mark so we headed over for our second letter box of the day and then realised this may take so time. The start was quick and we progressed although we thing one of the way points is missing but there is enough to keep going and spot the next one. Soon it was time to go bush and as our progress was good we continued. At GZ a bit of a search around and then the hide was found for the inking duties to be completed. A fun experience that was quicker than what we thought for 40 waypoints. TFTC. A fav pt
Have always wondered how this one worked then an afternoon out with fusion and a cache was located. Thanks for this little hunt. Really enjoyed it. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache

Made a start but lost interest with time running out at #11.
Will try again one day when we have more time.

Had a fantastic time, going through each individual picture and trying to figure out where I would end up. Made it better that it was a nice part of the world. TFTC.
we took the long way home after four great days in the mountains. Even the smoke didn't spoil the fun. A very hot walk, but got there in the end and then back up with 40 degrees, a drink well earned. Love the setup

Spent the weekend outdoors with friends. I had a very rewarding time - reaching #5000 finds, clearing more of my 50km radius and collecting a range of caches that work towards different statistics/challenges. Thanks to all Cache Owners for their contribution to the game.
I targeted statistics-related caches on the way home on Sunday. I was keen to do this Letterbox while in Springwood. Arriving at the Posted Coordinates, I set off in search of the clues. After a bit of walking, I made it to #40 and had the cache shortly after. Thanks For The Cache, Toriaz!

It was twilight. Great spot for hiding it. A fee things aren't there anymore but we figured it out. I found it with fluble and jackal10. TFTC
Great little mystery tour through Springwood. Some local knowledge helped where some photos couldn't be found. Found it just as the last light was fading. Without a compass device, we just traced an arc around the final point to find the resting place. TFTC TNLN SL
It was a very nice and easy journey. We did it after walking from the library. Though it was very easy since I am a local. I just looked at the last picture and knew where it was. But I would like to advise you that some photos may be old and the thing may no longer be there. Also when it says to walk seven metres from the location that you are at it is more like ten metres. I didn't use a compass so it was hard to pinpoint eighty five degrees from north. I think we only found the geocache because my geofamily had a very weak flashlight on a phone to light the way. But overall I loved the cache because it was challenging. My favourite cache yet. TFTC TNLN SL
OCW the Bebes finding a few after a CITO held by geocaching NSW in Whalan. Springwood is such a lovely village and we enjoyed the walk this cache provided to see a little around the area. Not too long either. First cache I have done with this method and loved it. Tftc

Headed into the Blue Mountains to pick up a couple of letterbox caches that I needed for a challenge cache.
I really enjoyed this wander through Springwood.
We didn’t see s couple of the markers but didn’t worry as we could always see the next one easily enough.
Quite a unique cache too, I haven’t followed a trail like this before I don’t think, it was great fun.
A pretty GZ too

Caching with oldmorty in Springwood. This was a lot of fun.
A couple of the photo locations had changed or were missing but we knew where we were heading, especially after having just been there finding another cache. All locations were found in the wooded part of our walk. What a lovely peaceful walk. No problems finding the cache. Worth a favourite point by me.
Thanks Toriaz for placing this cache here for us to find.

Returning to Sydney after a week away, frazeydaze and I stopped off at Springwood to grab a few caches. After arriving at the first wp frazerdaze took the bit between her teeth and had us on our way. We only missed a couple of the wps, although we did see them on the return journey. At the final wp we did the calculation and it wasn't long before it was CIH. Thanks for this fun cache and the history of letterboxing Toriaz. A FP is awarded.
This is only the second photo clue cache that I've done. Will keep this one in mind for the grandies. The history of letterboxing was fascinating. TFTC
TFTC Toriaz. Found with geobrother (Forereach) after picking up some other caches in the area. Would like to try to prepare a cache like this myself. It is a great idea.
Took 40 min some of the way points missing and Wiggins track closed due to asbestos
No leeches this time around picked up at GZ. Walked straight to no.40 to complete some unfinished business.
Used compass and walked the required distance, hmmm, I walked 180degrees to where I actually walked last time and an easy find was made. Surely nothing has changed, except being slightly dyslexic was my excuse, thanks for the hide and fav as promised from last visit

What a beautiful spot. I have never done this a letterbox where I had to follow pictures. I could not find the plaque, but I was able to find all the other spots. LouLou0212 found quite a few, and I found quite a few. The end spot was fantastic. Thank you for taking us to this beautiful spot. A favourite from me for the location. TFTC Toriaz
I followed the path to this letterbox today. Some of the images are out of date, so I have re-photographed the route. It will take me some time to edit and replace the images, but in the meantime I think the current images will get you to the end, even if you skip a few.
The cache container is in good condition. I know a few finders have also found the small plastic container at the base of a stump. This is not the letterbox container which is an ammo tin. It is owned by another cachet and is listed on geocaching Australia.

Thanks to Toriaz for following up with me on this. It seems I may have inadvertently found a GCA cache. The LBH cache is apparently on the opposite side to where I was searching. I never even looked over there. I think I have misunderstood the final instruction as I cast my 300° heading with ref to N rather than what is likely the direction one would have faced on arrival to pic #40. Nonetheless if the CO wished me to withdraw my find that is ok. Gives me an excuse to come back to this area some time! Future finders be aware of this situation just until it gets sorted.
What better way to spend the first day of Autumn than geocaching?? Slowly making my way to Kurrajong from the central coast today for business, via ~10 caches . This is the day's 7th cache. Massive fan of LBHs so I am chasing all three up here today! Found the cache but no stamp in it - looks like a throwdown? Anyway I didn't think anything of it as it was exactly where the cache page directions say. But now that I'm home going thru some previous logs I just saw the HINT ...and I wonder if the 300° is to be taken as default (ref to N like I did) or in fact from the position/ heading one is standing by the time one gets to #40?? This is a little unclear and a bummer as I can't easily go back out there now and see what's up. Man I hate throwdowns. I'm going to claim the find under those circs. Could the CO check all this out and perhaps edit the cache page to make the final instruction a bit clearer, if applicable ta! TFTC, Toriaz.

Not sure if cache we found was correct one as there was no stamp and log seemed incomplete? Will contact CO for confirmation
I thought I could do an easy cache near the post office when I started this out with the geocachlings. Didn’t expect what I found but enjoyed it thoroughly! And I got two leeches on me! FP.
ZimbaW chose this one and it really was a lot of fun-quite the treasure hunt! We got a bit lost for a while there but were back on track reasonably quickly, and the destination was a lovely reward at the end. Thank you!

That was a lot of fun. We parked close to Pic 1 and soon had several pics ticked off as we strolled around Springwood. We got distracted by a shop and I bought a very nice jacket. Then it was back on the trail. Oh oh, we couldn't find #11 or #12. However, after a bit of back and forthing we eventually found #13 and were back on track. A really nice letterbox awaited us in a truly lovely spot. Thanks for the walk, the fun, and the cache, Toriaz

Streak Day #1466 - Since it was a nice day today, dave8153 and i took the opportunity to attempt this one, was quite easy for us as dave8153 was a springwood local so knew most of the spots in the photos, so we started at around 23 and made our way to GZ for a pretty quick find. Actually enjoyed the walk to this one, thanks for bringing us here. TFTC
Headed up to Springwood today with Snoopy1976 to do some caches. Saw this one and followed the pictures and were soon near GZ. Attempted the Projection of a waypoint but in the end used our Geocaching Instinct and very soon had CIH. TFTC

Heading over the hill, i had time to visit some old stomping grounds. I must of driven around town three times and walked up and back along the main street in big trip down memory lane for this one. As I had grown up here and this was my back yard I knew were to head for the final few photos. With very little evidence of the building left at the start of the walk (I was in this group and dad was part of the build families all gone now). Any way between cars I soon spotted what I was here for this time. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

In Sydney for the day with the geokids (3 and 5) trying to grab some letterbox caches to help us qualify for an all rounder style challenge. We need 4 letterboxes more to have found 25 of at least 5 different cache types.
After finding 2 letterboxes (and a few randoms) in south west Sydney we headed to the mountains.
So much for a quick park and grab! Ha ha at least the kids and I got some exercise! We struggled with a few photos but managed to connect the dots enough to keep finding later ones.
What a great little adventure. Deserving of an FP. Kids enjoyed the hide and made some swaps. TFTC

Well, after *Traffic Control #3* returned to Sydney I had been hoping to grab it for my upcoming milestone (having found both *#1* and *#2* for milestones). But it's all been a bit crazy, and it seems that unless you contact the current holder before it's placed you have no chance of a find.
So, I'll let the novelty wear off and select something else for find #3700.
Quite a while ago I had looked at a challenge cache for which I'd qualified. I've found a few challenge caches for milestones so far, so why stop now? And I can make a day of it with a number of other finds in the area.
Done!

Well, I'm still not 100% over The Dreaded Lurgi, so why I decided to start with a cache with more waypoints than two marathon **Calypso62** multis is beyond me.
I'd prelooked at the first few photos, and as I approached I thought I saw something that looked like it might be a match for one of them, so parked and went to check it... Nope. OK, off to the published coordinates then, deciding I might as well start walking now.
Started pretty easy, until I missed waypoint 11. Then wandered around aimlessly trying to find it. I was probably standing on it at one point. Finally I spotted it pretty close to where I'd originally expected it would be - standing on it for sure.
Waypoints 12 & 13 look different, but still obvious enough. Then the next one I spotted was waypoint 16. Hmmm.
All good again until #20, but then I spotted #21. From here I effectively found about one in every two waypoints, and that was enough to keep me on target.
And there is #40!
Right, before checking the final instruction I looked around and spotted a likely area - with a trail going in that direction.
Why not. CIH!
Completed signing duties and replaced.
A favourite for the walk and the interesting concept I should stea... erm, homage.
The humidity played havoc as I walked back to the car - that Lurgi is definitely still lingering.
And I have two bush caches up next...

6000. Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 1140 in company with thomo31. We needed a special hide to make our 6000th find and a Letterbox in Springwood fitted the bill. The concept of this type of hide intrigued both of us. thomo31 had found this before and so with 2 bush bashers like us that had very little idea how to get started helped for the first couple of locations. It took us a while to get the hang of reading the numbers but we were able to SL at the end. Tnx Toriaz for a good hunt. A favourite from us.
Headed up to Springwood on the train for a half day of caching on local trails. It wasn't too hot thanks to heavy cloud cover and the occasional sprinkle, and I managed to find all the caches I sought with minimal trouble. As always, thanks to all COs for placing and maintaining their caches and contributing to another adventure!
This was an excellent letterbox hybrid! Some of the objects in the photos were easy to spot while others I must admit I never did see. All in all this took about 30 minutes and I enjoyed all 30 of them. This one deserves a favourite point for the effort involved in creating this cache. Thanks Toriaz

Months ago I came up while MrT was at the Dentist and did 1-11. Someone had painted over the graffiti, so I stopped there and had planned to come back and finish it. Tonight I had to drop MrT as SES at Faulconbridge, so after a 29 degree day, it had dropped to down to a nice 23 degrees by then. Parked behind the shops and retraced my steps until I knew what photo I was at. Headed off with my fingers crossed that all the slitheries had headed to bed for the night!
As I followed the photos on my phone, I took photos as I got to most of the "waypoints". A little bit like Hansel and Gretel dropping breadcrumbs. I did send WaywardWoman a text telling her what photo I was up to at one stage, as I headed into the unknown. At least someone would know where I was (if she looked at the text message that is). As I neared the end of the photos, I looked at the next comment, and not knowing what that meant, I looked around using the distance mentioned and the clue, and headed for what looked positive. Hooray I found it!!! Then realised my stamp was back in the car... So I signed the log, and picked up the TB that was there. A last look around and retraced my steps not needing my "photo breadcrumbs". Back to the car, and send a text to say I was back. Still no reply.... Oh well I really am safe and sound if anyone was interested. A favourite point for me. TFTC

TFTC
Really cool Cache. We only had problems with the 300º waypoint project. But the hint was helpful. i left a FP here. TFTC

Find #840
We are going to the Spring Caching in the Bluies event tomorrow, so decided to make a weekend of it, we cached around the Springwood and Faulconbridge areas today. Some great spots here, 13 finds and one DNF, not bad for an afternoon.....
We hadn't planned to do this one today, even though we love letterboxes. We had planned to keep it as a backup for our 6 cache types attempt tomorrow. But the rain cleared, and we were right here, so started off with our fist-full of photos.
We started off well, spotting everything well, then got stuck after the '4' plate.... we wandered a bit, then got back on the right track, then onto the track to GZ. I must be misreading the waypoint projection part, as we searched exactly 180 degrees away, even with an obvious GZ area beckoning. The cache was found quickly once we sorted out our misdirection.
A great adventure, the kids loved it too. My back is aching from carrying master 4 out of the gully!
Will post some pics once the EXIF has been adjusted....

Found today, we were doing caches in the Blue Mountains before the event tomorrow - thanks for the cache! GREAT CACHE!!
After checking out the Sassafras Gully, we headed back to the town centre for a little break. I'd been working on my girlfriend all day to convince her to go for a cache today and this one piqued her interest! We had a ton of fun going from picture to picture, skipping a few here and there when it wasn't clear, and we got to around GZ as darkness was really setting in. The girlfriend was the one to make the find as I held the torch... Success!!! Nice execution, really enjoyed this one, TFTC!
Visited with Arwen21 and elata1, and some muggles. An enjoyable sequence of clues. The bearing at the end seemed about 120 degrees rather than 300 degrees - did something go wrong with my navigation? Thanks!
This was an enjoyable cache, a very satisfying take on a multi, plus a wonderful little bushwalk to boot. Arriving with the geowife (representing TeamNormal) at close to 4pm and knowing the light was going to fade fast we began following the clues through, and after finding the last waypoint took out the compass and aimed it squarely as per instructions, but the hint and recognition of features drew us quickly to the cache. With a few photos taken for posterity the log was signed and a stamp placed in our cache dossier as proof of visit, then back safely in its hiding place the cache went. We then hurried back out as the sunlight began to fade, and up and out of Springwood by train as the sun set past the horizon.
Thanks for the cache Toriaz! We wish we had more light and time to follow the trail all the way through - we might do so some other time.

I checked in this one today, while the Imp was at ballet. All waypoints were found, but I did take a few new photos, to do an update.
Cache was safe & dry, but I did replace
The pen with one that works.

A very interesting way of doing a "multi." Great fun having to recognise various scenes from photos taken at different angles and/zooms. TFTC
After the last couple of caching treks heading towards Rouse Hill it was time for a change of scenery and this was my target today.
I had previously followed the photos to number 21 then couldn't spot 22 and in the pending rain I didn't pursue it any further. Today I started at photo 21 taking the probable path and it wasn't long before I started seeing more of the photo hints. Needless to say it didn't take long to arrive at the final photo spot.
Once there it was time to project a GZ and start searching. My first pass of an area didn't spot any thing but when approaching from a different angle I spied the prize. Retrieved the log and signed it before replacing as found. tftc
My second cache find following a trail of photos, enjoyable. a favorite awarded

Out with JJCC for a cache run in order to find our daily cache to keep our streak going.
Before tackling this cache we sat down with the aid of Dr Google and his merry men of Street Views
and worked out the limit of views available. At this point easy parking could be gained and a pleasant walk pursued. Missing a few clues, we soon picked them back up and made our way to the last one before our true search began. Initially searching in the complete opposite direction, we corrected our error and made a quick find. With the cache safely in hand, we both signed the log before replacing as found. The cache container and log are in excellent condition.
TNLN.
Seven TBs visited - Bob geoMinion, Dave geoMinion, Evil geoMinion, Jerry geoMinion, Larry geoMinion, Stuart geoMinion, Vanlith The Youngling.

Out with Team Merlin to find our daily cache to keep our streak going.
Targeting the cache Springwood Post letterbox we did a little home work before setting off. Now with an informed view of where to set off from we head off.
Parking nearby we head off on foot to pick up the clues given. Passing a few clues we recalcultaed where we were and continued on. Locating GZ. We then started searching in the possible hide locations. Widening our search and now in the correct direction we made a quick find. With the cache in hand, we both signed the log before replacing as found. The cache container and log are in excellent condition.

This was a fun trail to follow.
A lovely day turned to dark clouds and thunder this afternoon, but we beat the rain, or the few drops that did manage to fall
A beautiful area and a nice workout on the way out.
Took TBs to continue travels.

Passing through Springwood today so thought we'd grab the two letterboxes and then do a bit of reconnaissance on one and reconnoiter another that we'll save for another day.
Springwood Post is the first follow-the-photos cache I've done and found it quite a bit of fun, tho a few of the photos have changed since this was originally posted (eg. No. 12 has been repainted and No. 37 is obscured by overgrowth) and I couldn't find No. 11 or 14 at all. Oh, at No. 18 we could not see the next trail marker so we spoke to a couple local kids on their way home from school. They were friendly lads who advised us that the road heading down behind us was their drive-way rather than a road or trail. Just then their father drove past and without really knowing what we were looking for pointed us in the right direction. But by and large it was a well-marked trail which had us at GZ in very short order. Finding the stash was a bit tricky as I took bearings from North at first but when that turned up nothing we re-worked the projection facing South, the direction we would have been travelling at our arrival at No. 40. The cache was then easily located and stamping duties completed. Thunder overhead hastened our return to the car where we successfully out-ran the rain.

Must admit, I knew where this was taking me so only went to the last parts. Easy find. There looks to be someone setup camp in the scrub not far from here.
Did another one just like this on the otherside of Springwood a bit later in the day.

With most of the picture trail known it was latter part only needed for the downhill run to the finish line.
Once at the GZ it was a straightforward seek. Following a morning brain frying walk beforehand the significance of the stamp passed over the 'mushroom ... it dawned some distance later and, sadly, the will to return was well and truly sapped.
A good sized ammo can seemed suitably appropriate to leave a trio of trackables. TFTC Toriaz

Tftc, was nice nd easy to follow pics and find geo. Found all the pics and got to the last one and had to turn back for the noight was upon us and torches were weak. Came back with the sun doing its thing and parked as close.as possible, walked the rest and spotted a likely hiding place. Yep yep, did a geojig and geoduties. Never would have done this on.my own, thankfully josh is a bit more keen and encourages me to give these blue n yellow geos a go. Thanks 4 a awesome adventure. Have points for this
