Zeryx and I headed north for the weekend to do John O'Groats and this cache in particular. Lovely place. TFTC
We visited John O'Groats, then Dunnet Head on a really nice dry sunny day, lovely views across to the Orkneys.

What a day - we headed toward John O'Groats, not just to look at the North Sea but to try and bag our northern most geocache. The scenery was spectacular and of course the castles dotted along the way made it even more special. We found a good number of caches like this one and also managed a visit to Dunrobin Castle.
TNLN .. . . . SL . . Thanks to WEST-MURKLE-MAN for the hunt.

This one is much easier to get to than GCJNWJ. Still it's worth a visit. We first headed to the top. Very windy up there, but some sunshine and great views on the Pentlant Firth with it's roaring sea and the Orkneys beyond. Also the lighthouse is impressive.
We then headed down the east side, strolled around the hill towards the cache. Nice views also here. The cache itself was easy to find. Back at the car a huge rainbow developed just in front of the cliff. Cool! Also interesting where the small waterfalls there - due to the storm the flew upwards into the sky instead of down to the sea.

Spending a week up in Scotland (staying in Inverness) I was determined to visit all the 'tourist' spots but as a geocacher, I also wanted to come to Dunnet Head and try to find the most northerly mainland UK cache too.
We took a (very!) scenic route from Inverness, via the A836 (having left the A9 just before the bridge over the Donoch Firth) and, having got out into the 'wilderness', were captivated by the mile after mile of desolate twists and turns, up and down the rolling hills. The drive took us nearly 4 hours (complete with a 20-minute stop to eat our picnic lunch overlooking one of the many lochs we passed) and by the time we arrived, we were really glad to be able to get out of the car and stretch our legs.
I wanted to get as far north as I possibly could and my GPS came in VERY handy for that; it was just a shame that the nearest I could get was still around 110m from the cliff-edge, but I wasn't daft enough to ignore the fencing which had been put there for the safety of visitors!
The cache was a nice easy one to pick up on the way back down from the viewpoints, although 'Less Keen' was a little unhappy that it just happened to be near to a passing point where a couple where parked up with their car and trailer, loading up and carting away a load of peat blocks they had cut from nearby; I'm not QUITE sure what he thought a police car might be doing 'just passing', but his fear was that we, too, would get carted away for theft of natural resources!
Thanks for placing this cache, which was the icing on the cake for my visit to the most northerly point in mainland UK!

Staying in Brough, with magnificent views of the Pentland Firth, and the Orkneys. Great day for caching.
Quicker find than expected. Great to be at this spot, being the furthest north on mainland UK.

Lovely spot. And the sun came out right on cue. TFTC. On our grand tour of the UK.
Wow I think this will take some beating as my most northerly cache, especially given I am from Australia! I dropped a coin, took a TB and visited a couple of travel items to make the occasion! Thanks for the cache
first checked out the lighthouse and surrounds then went caching. found easily now it's off to lizard point. greetings from australia
