Kolour and I organised a long weekend in Canberra to catch up with the great Domsky duo. Of course there was much caching to be done! On our final day we set our sites on some target caches, quite a mix of challenges and oldies.A quick find here, thanks Agent Basil for the cache, giving an FP here.

05-Aug-24
Im visiting Canberra from Brisbane with Willis007 for a long weekend with Domsky, targeting mainly oldies and challenges. This is my first time geocaching in the ACT. Domsky was busy today so we hired a car to finish off finding our target caches, this being one of them. I didnt notice the steps, so headed around the lookout from the top side, only to discover a fence. Willis007 was able to climb over it as she is taller. The fun cache was quickly found, signed and replaced as found. And we admired the large Tardis on our way back. And a nice view too. Tftc

It was a full day today. With rain predicted for the day earlier in the week we had booked into the War Memorial. It was a really worthwhile visit and unlike our normal choice, we chose to take a guided tour. Our guide was a lovely man who was most knowledgeable, and had a store of great anecdotes. After finishing we headed outside to work on Ad Labs and some caches, trads, multis and puzzles. Then it was off to Old Parliament House where we "maintained the Rage" and then cached until heading off to a Winter Solstice Event.Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache Agent Basil.**SKI Pair****

Well, it seems that buhfuhguh is up to his usual tricks and has decided to head up to Canberra for a whirlwind two days of nonstop shenanigans. It was great to see the giant again and embark on some classic adventures as we targeted some quality caches along the way!I'd been previously curious as to what had earned this cache so many favourite points, and it wasn't too difficult to determine why once the local attraction was spotted!I didn't know this one was here, although it was amusing to see the excited visitors (probably falling into the "Dork" category on that one Intelligence/Obsession/Social Ineptitude venn diagram) forced to take so many stairs to access it.Once they'd taken their pictures, we very suspiciously bypassed the structure entirely and wandered down the trail to a slightly smaller replica. We reckoned this one was far more powerful, however!I'm told it's what's on the inside that counts...Thanks to Agent Basil for this neat hide! Smile

What a weekend! With the what would have been the most impromptu trip for me ever, I found myself booking flights to Canberra in order to pick up a couple interesting caches or two. With a list of prospective caches for me to hit made into a list, I had just under 48hrs to go our and collect as many of them as I and my driver for the days would allow! With tree climbs, puzzles, D/T's and some sneaky Drain Caches completed! All in all I had an amazing trip and cannot wait to be back soon! Thanks for the cache and the big adventure!!

Sir_spectre and I are making our way home from our ACT, NSW and Victoria holiday. Unfortunately, due to family circumstances we had to cancel our Mega adventure, so this trip was to make up for it.Many caches found and any that needed some love got it.Thanks

24-Apr-24
Target cache since this is the 4th favourite point cache in the ACT. Nice views from the top of the hill. We drove up to the top. Did have a fight with the black berries getting to the cache. the cache makes perfect sense with the nearby structure. Fav point.Found with Mogni. Myself and mogni are headed off to canberra on the " I missed the Capital GeoBash Mega " holiday, since last minute family problems came in to play and we had to adjust our plans by a few weeks. On the way over we targeted multi's, wherigo's and puzzles to make sure we had 25 in each or at least close to that total ( or more ) as possible, getting as many new New South Wales LGA's as possible, the 17th most favourite point NSW cache and every cache size in New South Wales. In the ACT it was getting 2 of the 5 oldest letterboxes, oldest wherigo in Australia, 2nd oldest earthcache ( with a side trip to get the oldest earthcache of course ), and ACT oldest cache too. I also hosted a CITO and planned on getting every different cache type i could and eevry different cache size as well. I also needed 9 more virtuals this trip to get my virtual count over 100. Finally canberra was far enough away from from house to complete the well aged well travelled cacher 0 to 1000 kms with a cache every 10 km's ( i only need 7 more caches to complete )Leaving the ACT it was going via Victoria to get there last active web cam cache and slowly getting a total of 20 finds in each LGA i passed through if i had enough time plus also hosting a CITO in Victoria as well. A busy 11 days. Trust me by the end of the holiday you would have thought the 6 meter ladder weighed more than 13 kg's to amount of times it was used or carried up hills or over creeks. If your cache was found with a broken container/lid it was replaced or if the log was full it was replaced or a extra log if the container was big enough ( except for nano's, do your own maintenance on nano's.

Found by The Empire + HPerched atop the southern reaches of the city, Red Hill boasts commanding vistas of the surrounding landscape, making it a popular destination for locals and visitors alike seeking breathtaking scenery. As we ascended the gentle slopes of Red Hill, we were greeted by a landscape rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. The walking trails meandered through groves of eucalyptus trees and native shrubs, creating a tranquil atmosphere conducive to leisurely exploration and contemplation.Arriving at the summit, we were rewarded with sweeping views that stretched across the city skyline, encompassing landmarks such as Parliament House, Lake Burley Griffin, and the distant peaks of the Brindabella Ranges. Thanks for the cache Agent Basil.-M

Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. Add fav for the themed container, at a cool spot we would have driven right past if not for the cache. The log has been signed as WAC to save space, abbreviation for Western Australia Crew. Cheers Agent Basil! Big GrinJoin us in Augusta, in Western Australias South West, for WA Goes Big 2024 (GCAGV8Y) on Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September. Log your will attend now!

Day #6 Geobashing After a late night dash for a FTF, we were unprepared at the time for some of the other nearby caches so a group of us returned to finish them this morning.OZHockeyChick and I then spent the rest of the day touring the northern part of Canberra and into NSW, picking up all sorts of targeted caches. We visited the top of Red Hill to nab this high favorite cache. We initially hoped the huge tardis was the cache! How cool would that be. We took a trail off the main track and soon had this one in hand.A big thanks goes to Agent Basil for taking the time to add Dr Basil I presume? The Adelaide Leap Day Mega and Canberra Geobash gave us a great excuse for a road trip. This trip has shown us so many new and interesting places as weve chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites.Meeting up with friends old and new along the way, we sometimes cached together and sometimes alone but always had a great time.Today we drove all over Canberra, firstly filling a couple of D/T grid squares before focusing on finding favourites. Afterwards we took a tour around Lake Burley Griffin in this superb walking weather. Some wonderful places visited and caches found, it was a most enjoyable way to spend the day. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for us and adding to our enjoyment.

I came here because of the bigger tardis. I love guerilla art! Finding the cache was an extra challenge as I had to avoid the super cool dudes having a session on the lookout. I wish I were as cool as they are. Oh well, nerd hobbies it is, lol!!

Just spotted this cache not logged while map gazing. Next step was to find the distinct photos to remind me of the date. Another sport I had eyed off to spot that elusive water jet. Apparently its working now . 3 weeks later. Oh well. An excuse to revisit ACT. We loved this cache and it more than deserves a favourite point. What to look forward to after 2 megas within 4 weeks of each other, a BLOCK PARTY in Sydney, Australia Day 2025. https://coord.info/GCACHF8Gotta love a smiley face on the map. Thankyou for placing and maintaining it.

We were heading to Canberra for our second Mega in as many months, and when you are driving a long way, it is wise to break up your drive to prevent driver fatigue. With this in mind, we stopped quite a bit on the journey to find a good number of caches and endeavoured to get closer to qualifying for more Challenge caches. We will use some relatively generic logs with the sheer number of logs we need to complete after the Mega. We are tired and have insufficient brain power to do much more than that.We would like to thank all the cache owners for placing the caches for us to find, and unless otherwise noted, we found all caches in excellent condition.Thank you, Agent Basil, for this Traditional cache.

29/3/2024 Find #6929My first ever trip to Canberra and I am down here for the Mega with KBreeAHH and Captain Terror. Big Matt collected us for todays tour to kick start our time in Canberra. We had collected our own vehicle by now at the airport and had met back up with Big Matt and his car. Up we all headed and parked the car. We were informed by Captain Terror that this was a good cache and that we should go check it out - Big Matt, having parked his car before us was already out and at GZ before all of this!Well I didnt expect to see that at the bottom of a set of stairs!! And an appropriately themed cache to suit. It was here that KBreeAHH got her new logbook name for the trip (KBreeAHHAHAHAHA) - yes the sillies have well and truly begun! Thanks for the cache Agent Basil.

Found this cache on my prep walk for the Cetus Scout Unit walk from Red Hill to Parliament House doing geocaching along the way. We are from Lake Ginninderra Sea Scouts.

The Scouts are going to love the Tardis weather collection station, and the cache container makes this just a fabulous cache. I grew up on Dr Who, and the container is so cool, it's a Fav point from me!

The first of many caches for my birthday holiday in Canberra. This one is one the list because… for some reason it’s cool. It’s old, its a jasmer, it’s got heaps of favourite points, it’s got a view, but or it’s near something that does. Either way, I guarantee I had a great time grabbing it. Thanks for making my birthday awesome!

I had heard there was a TARDIS on Red Hill so I just had to see it for myself. I'm not a Dr Who fan but do enjoy seeing these items in the wild. There's one outside Earl's Court Station in London too.
Cache was quickly found and logbook signed. Another find as I march towards 5000. Thanks for the geo-fun Agent Basil.

Great container and very on theme. I think we have a container like this at home some where so may have to deploy it as a sister cache. Fave point awarded for the hide and highlighting the nearby landmark. I do wonder how said landmark came about… TFTC

I'm in Canberra to present a two-day workshop. But, I fly in 24 hours earlier than required to have a day exploring and geocaching by myself. Given I've never visited the ACT before, I'm keen to see as much as possible of at least the capital.

After an agreeable lunch, I find a hire scooter and commence working through my list of geocaches and attractions for the day. This is, as best I can tell, the most favourited geocache within my reach.

My travel to get here is already enjoyable. The quiet, green streets, flowers all over the place, and feeling more like a rural NSW town than a capital city makes me think I might love this place pretty soon. At the edge of the scooter's range, I leave it be and continue on foot. No hire car means taking the track directly up the slope.

Thankfully, the map in the app works well and I am soon on the dirt path, then a right turn chugging my way up the steps. I am sure glad I bought a bottle of water at the cafe just before! I pass another jogger out and about, but otherwise the place is deserted.

Having appreciated that the bushland here is rather different to what I'm used to back in Queensland, I get close to GZ. And quickly spot the image I've seen in logs here previously. Honestly, it's not my fantasy of choice, but I know plenty of folks who would deeply appreciate this big/little 'attraction'. I looked about and noted a geotrail, which I followed and made a quick find. Just after 13:00 I signed the log and earned myself the ACT souvenir. Woohoo.

With the geocache replaced as found, I headed up to the summit for more of a look. The panorama out across that famous city, and picking out the major attractions was just lovely. A little farther along I look at the bronze plague and a different view before taking the road back down. Thanks for this quirky geocache and the start of my Canberra adventure, Agent Basil Smile

My first time in the ACT and I'm devastated I didn't get to take in the scenic view... misty rain fell, then the fog rolled in, that coupled with it being dark made it impossible to see much at all.
I eventually made the find on both blue boxes, very cool
