Hi lukeh007
This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit and after my previous reviewer note, there has been no owner response. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).
I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.
Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.
Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

We had a thorough search all over for this, but no luck. Gone missing we think?
Fun wee scramble and old structure, no sign of cache(s) despite reasonable search though.
Got within 30 metres but couldn’t get any closer due to the river being so high and the path being blocked. Will try again in summer
Had a hunt around but nothing located after checking all the likely spots. Either its gone or the caching eye wasn't dialled in for this cache.
Found it after getting very scratched. Should have read previous logs before going, but couldn’t sign log, too wet and in tatters
Had a good explore and clambered all over the place - finding an easy route up after having taken the hard route first. Couldn't find it anywhere. Have to think more about this one.
Okay, I probably shouldn't have Tackled this one before I was going out to visit family, as now I am covered in dirt, saturated shoes and blood from being scratched by blackberry and barbed wire, however, I needed this to fill an important gap in my D/T grid. Rather disappointing though as the log was mush and I couldn't sign it.
I remember this concrete wall being accessible from a nice path meandering down to the river from a house above.

Decided on a walk in the area and this was the first cache to grab. Have to report that the cache is very wet and the log is mushy. I suggest that the concrete was the old fixing for an old bridge. Thanks CO for the cache.
In the area so made the find. Previous finders describe perfectly the state of this one. Thanks for the cache.
We parked up over the road and enjoyed a bit of a stroll to GZ. I bet this is a very popular spot in the summer.
After negotiating a bit of blackberry the container was soon found, but as the previous finder has said, is full of water. We emptied it, but the log is un-signable ( I have a photo for proof if required). However, we left one of our signature items - a bear cub pet rock.
Thanks for bringing us to this lovely little spot

Pretty cool spot. Sadly the container was filler with water and the logbook is soaked
A nice wee walk down by the river for this one, and after a bit of searching found a cache. Log book was damp but usable. My guess is this was the foundations to an old bridge. TFTC
It takes some time and some up and down, till we found this cache, but at least, we get it.
Found that without too much drama. There is an easy route a few metres up stream.
A nice spot out of the northerly.
Cache is a bit wet - I emptied water but log is still damp.
Thanks

Interesting location. I found it after a scramble getting caught in blackberry on the way up (right side) and bit of barbed wire coming down left side. Iso care is needed. I wonder if I also found the older one? Whatever, loved the walk along the Waikanae Eiver on a sunny winters day. Thanks
After a bit of an awkward scramble in wet conditions, I quickly found a cache. I was surprised to see the last log entry was dated March 2018 when I was aware finds had been claimed since. It didn't occur to me at the time but the cache didn't correspond with the hint in a couple of respects.
Having since read earlier logs, I now believe there are probably two containers at the location. I suspect I found the original as I definitely remember noticing tmann421's FTF entry. I guess it depends which approach is taken that determines which container searchers see first.

On a long trip down to the mega with Lis's crew. So for me it good for numbers and favorites caches. With several stops and a lot of caches and several souvenirs up for grabs the trip was the perfect opportunity to get my numbers up and get some challenges that I have qualified for. Nice spot for a cache here got it easily after a bit of a scramble.
Thegreatauk and I are heading to the Mega in Wellington. This D/T appealed so off we headed along the riverside. I imagine getting along the riverside would be tricky at times. We arrived at the final gz and scrambled up for easy find. I think this used to be part of an old bridge. Thanks for a bit of light exercise on our way to Welly today
Passed by this one on a number of occasions. Today we had the time to pull off and explore for the cache hide.
A great area to visit for a number of reasons. Popular in summer as a swimming spot. But the only others about today were folks choosing river stones to load into the boots of their cars (should they be doing this? Do they have a resource consent to take?).
The cache find was straightforward after a bit of a scramble. All in order, log signed, cache safely re-hidden, just as found.
I visited here with team cacher zboy wonder TFTC

Went the long way up, and then saw a shorter route down. All ok, the log is a bit damp but able to be written on still. Great art on the Bridge. TFTC
Nice cache.Probably my favourite one so far. My Pop thinks it used to be abutment for an old bridge. Log book was a bit damp and needs replacing.

Didn't take very long to find a way to the cache. No idea what the structure used to be. Had a bit of a look around up there and discovered some beautiful flowering Kaneohe trees. A favourite point from me. TFTC
My son and I were in Waikanae today to clear up the last few remaining caches from the lower section of the Hemi Matenga Reserve series of caches which we had mostly completed back in February. In addition, I am currently attempting GC3EPMQ the 100/100 Challenge in Auckland and after my last trip up there found myself with more D points than T points so was looking for a few caches the other way around to even me up a bit.
This one fitted the bill perfectly, so I was keen to have a go. Having parked up across the other side of SH1, we enjoyed looking at some of the graffiti on the concrete pillars under the road bridge on the walk to GZ. The Concrete Fort was soon spotted, and then it was a case of how to access it. My son started climbing up the first point we got to, whilst I tried a slightly different route. However we were both glad of the dry weather as I think we might have been in a bit of trouble otherwise.
Once up there, the Hint led me straight to the cache. Loved the effort put into the disguise, although I would have to say that the 'screw' aspect no longer works quite as it should. I suspect the timber has perhaps swollen in all the recent rain? But the log sheet was dry so I signed it on behalf of the pair of us whilst the lad was busy climbing all over the fort.
Not sure what the structure actually is, but enjoyed being there anyway.
Thanks for giving us the excuse to come and explore this interesting location, and I have given this a Favourite Point.

On the way to Otaki and popped in to grab this one on the way through. The scramble didn't look too bad to me so I assumed it was the path, oops! And agreeing with previous geocachers, it definitely looks like this is where the gate in a fence was. Embarrassed to say that I only had a highlighter with me, so sorry for the bright log! Went exploring around the vicinity of the GC a while, what a neat spot. TFTC
Found the concrete structure easy enough climbing to it was the hard part after climbing up I realised that there was an easy way that I didn’t see around the corner
this was a nice quick find once we found the path, no idea what the concrete thing was, but we noticed it had overgrown steps and it looked like it used to have a gate
9.10am. I found the easier way up and then a quick find. A favourite point for an unusual site.
Thank you David.
Thank you David.
Clever hide that meant for a bit of adventure. Sorry no pen on us. Very intrigued about concrete structure?? TFTC
Escaping the frigid northland with lostcheq and Mocrin by traveling here from halfway across the globe. Exploring New Zealand through geocaching. Cache found; lostcheq too. Wondering if we were going to have to seek after the greater treasure. Glad we didn't have to find her. TFTC
Lostcheq did the honors for this one, and decided to come out a different way than where she went in. We agreed to meet back at the car. 10 minutes later, she still wasn't back, and I thought we'd lost her! We started to go back to GZ when we saw her coming around the corner. Seems she had a tricky time of it, and decided it would be best to come back down where she went up after all. Thanks for the cache!
TFTC Favorite Visiting from Wisconsin, US, with Mocrin and Aix sponsa. Clever hide. HOT day out with lots of swimming muggles. Had a great time in NZ and hope to be back some day.
Interesting little walk along the river, we got there before the crowds of people turned up to swim in this heat.
Great hide, thanks
Great hide, thanks
Great looking swimming hole nearby! Once I read the log about there being a path it all became relatively simple
25 December 2017 16:04. TFTC. This one has been on my radar for a while now, so it was good to finally be able to pick it up today. Be aware that there is some barbed wire near GZ.
Up the coast but while here I wanted to get this one as it had been on my radar for a while. A beautiful day to go caching. Saw the place in question and worked out the best way up. Once there it was a quick find in a nicely created container. All in order. TFTC
Thanks for the cache. This is our find number 731 and we found it at 11:32:39 AM NZST on 23 August 2017. Been meaning to come after this one for ages. Now the Expressway is open it's much safer to access the car parking area than it used to be. Found the track up the hill and located the cache quickly. Great view but not for anyone with vertigo!!
I think this used to be some kind of boundary "fence".

Boy do I have a story about this cache! Took a nice bike round to the state highway 1 cross over and quickly found the concrete structure. After searching at the bottom of the concrete, close to the beach we decided to begin the climb up the side to the top of the concrete structure. We were then confronted by a small girl who asked what we were doing. We replied that we were simply interested in the structure and what it was. She then, after a dramatic pause....asked us why we weren't using the path. We were then showed a very easy path that you us up to the top of the structure and quickly found the cache. Only after realising that we had left our swaps and pen with our bikes at the bottom! So another trip down and up and we finally had the log book signed! Thank you for a wonderfully funny experience
Found this one months ago but forgot to bring a pen.... Finally managed to tick it off today. TFTC
Saw this one was en route to Paraparaumu to see hubby's elderly dad and it was a terrain/difficulty we need for trying to get to the x50 for a gemstone badge to qualify for a local cache in Manawatu so had to stop. Anticipating it to be much harder than it was! I have a bad knee so hubby scrambled up and had the cache in no time. We have absolutely no idea what the concrete thing is. Weird. A fence that surrounded a house on the hill. It appears there was a gate way that maybe let the home owners have access to get down to the lovely river. Hubby remembers coming to this location to picnic when he was a little boy - many moons ago lol! Thanks for bringing up back to this location.
Quick find on an awful day out.
The half way point of a 35km loop from home and back on my trusty steed.
This cache has been on my to do list for ages now and today was the day.
After initially climbing up wrong bank, helps if you check gps, cache was located quickly upon second location.
Quick scramble up a slippery bank, used the barbed wire as a hand hold and pulled myself up.
Beautiful spot,noone around.
Fave point for you

Out on an unexpected caching trip with Taybee and Taybee NZ. Taybee NZ shot up the steep bank quite easily but I took a less tricky approach a little further along where there was a path of sorts and plenty of tree roots to grab. Astonishingly, Taybee NZ found one cache, and Taybee (who had taken a slightly different route), found a second cache. We signed the logs in both caches and they were returned to their respective hiding places. Tftc.

On our way from Palmerston North to the Ferry terminal today, we stopped here to locate the Concrete Fort. Made the walk along the river and soon spotted where we had to go. A short scramble later and the cache was found. Thanks for the little adventure.
Bit of a scramble to get to this one. Nicely hidden though. Thanks for a good one. Bit tricky extracting the log, but all dry and in good order.
Cache # 2,659 - had been hoping for a better weather day today, on a big day out with Crystal Fairy. However it was not to be in the morning so we decided to do a series of shorter, but still demanding, walks. This one had been on both of our lists for a long time. A muggle was nearby throwing rocks in the river, but moved off around a corner as we approached. Crystal Fairy found the cache first. Interesting spot, and we don't know what the structure is, although my guess is something left over from WWII. TNLNSL. TFTC!
Parked of the other side ot the river and crossed the bridge before heading down to the river. Made our way to GZ and then saw the incline we'd need to climb. Managed to claw my way up the hill and found the cache. The hint didn't make any sense but the cache was really easy to find. Going back down was much simpler. Did wth Wandering Dragons. T4TC
Not sure what the concrete was designed for. Noted the gate. Maybe a sheep pen with a ramp down to the river????? Also noted the good swimming hole a short way up the river! TFTC.
#6933. Found a nice parking spot off State Highway 1 for a wander up the Waikanae River. Interesting spot. Some folks had left their bicycle on the river bank and climbed further up the track. But GZ itself was all quiet. Not sure what the concrete thing is, but it sure occupied a nice strategic location overlooking the river. The well camouflaged cache was a quick find. Nicely done. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.
Got back to the car just in time to see “The Battle of Chunuk Bair Commemorative Steam Train” on its way back from Otaki towards Paekakariki. Glad to learn that this special ride to commemorate the soldiers who died during the battle of Chunuk Bair on the Gallipoli Peninsula in World War I was sold out today. Not sure why the famous AB 608 "Passchendaele" engine was travelling facing backwards though. Its front was pointing towards the carriages it was pulling, while its rear was chuckling ever forwards. 1st find in our little caching outing. Loved having to climb a muddy bank and slide back down. Much needed fun & laugh with Ace. Thanks for bringing us here
Very nicely done cache and a cool spot to hide it! Found a spot up about 10meters further up the river that was easy to climb up the bank TFTC
A bit of a scramble on damp ground, but the climb was safely made for a quick find. Not sure why the wall is there tho -but with a gateway in it, I figure it must have been associated with a previous dwelling somewhere above. Who knows what might have been below it before the river washed it away? TFTC.
Stopped here on the way south this afternoon after some caching around Otaki Forks. I have been meaning to come here for quite a while. Went into "mountain goat" mode to access the fort from below, no problems there. Cache was a quick find, nicely constructed. It was sitting on top of the ground when I arrived so I have covered it a bit better with some leaf litter. Signed log, TFTC
Awesome hide... very well constructed cache - dry log despite lots of rain today.
Thanks for placing this here!
Beware direct approaches are steep with barbed-wire and blackberry but there is a good way in further round if river not in flood.

Cache missing have to go to waikanae tomorrow so will take a spare container and replace
Found with twistiedog and unrealness. Nice walk along the river. I think it's an old fenceline too. Must look more into it. Cache was very visable before we hit GZ so put it in location described in your hint. High muggle area as the weather warms up. Enjoyed this. tftc
This cache is too dangerous. I fell down the cliff got caught up on the barbed wire. Thanks for boobytraping the gz, hurting my arm and ruining my day.
A quick find with tmann421.
Enjoyed the short walk to GZ and neat place for a cache.

Easy find this afternoon with tylerdrummond. Met up with huntit at GZ for a 3 way tie for 2TF! Short little hill climb required to find cache which was placed exactly as hint described it. Interesting structure, I too would be keen to know its history. SLTFTC

been interesting to know what the concrete fort was for.

Drove as close to GZ as the road would allow, only to find a precariously parked car right next to ours. Another geocacher? Approaching GZ we found HuntIt, and then found the cache fairly quickly. Joint 2TF between the three of us! TFTC
