Up north again with a Muggle couple, they were some 40km behind me so i ducked into grab this one after reading the Geocache Description. I just had to make the effort and find this one after reading the sweet message about Tony.Parked as close to GZ as i could and started my search. There was a lot of bark at the base of the tree so i began to lift it seeing my first 2 orbits of the natural giant yielded nothing. I saw something else and wondered if it was the cache and sure as eggs it was, but the needed object that 'fits' was missing. A brief search then i spotted it fairly quickly, thankfully [phew] Cool ha ha. Over to the boot of my car [My Log Signing table] Big Grin Signed the log at 09:20 on Thursday the 15th of February 2024. Replaced the cache (complete) under a nicely sized piece of bark to prevent Muggles seeing it and the whole time i was there i was thinking of Tony and how nice it would be to have known him [^]The cache and contents are fine and dry.TFTC choppersrule and 2y'stassies Smile

A nice drive-by. A sad but also joyful story. Geocaching takes you to some places you would never otherwise see. Make the most of every adventure, you never know how many you get. Thanks for the cache and the tribute.

Lovely way to remember and honour your friend. We didn't know Tony but read the description and thought of him while we are, what a great way to keep his memory alive.

I thought this would be a quick find, which it was, but the new property owners were onto me. They came over in their ute asking me what I was up to. It was getting close to dusk and apparently they have had some issues with people shooting deer on their land. So I gave them the geocaching spill which they found interesting, but they were more interested if there was any information on the memorial that they had heard about which used to be here. I showed them the cache description and they were very thankful for the information.
In future if they see a vehicle stopped near this gum tree they might come down to show you where it’s hidden

A quick find after hubby wanted to stop for a Power Nap on the way to Launceston - all good with the cache…RIP Tony

06-Oct-22
PLEASE NOTE: the cache is currently a disguised bison tube, at the fence-side base of the tree.

05-Oct-22
Thanks choppersrule, and 2y'stassies, and RIP Tony.

Performed some maintenance here somewhat ironically.

Following on from recent DNF logs, and my visit today, it appears that the recent work here to firstly clear the area, and then install a new fence, has probably caused the demise of this cache.
I walked along both sides of the roadway for some distance each way, checking the verges for any sign of the memorial cross and/or the cache, totally unsuccessfully.

Luckily I had a spare container, so with a consult with the adopting CO, I have left a replacement cache so those who follow can hopefully add a smile.

As an aside, I really don't know what the last 'finder' found!

Cheers, EPs.

Hi,

For all that are visiting this wonderful in memoriam cache: the beer opener is part of a Travelbug bus it is missing it's tag. If anyone is able to create a tag please send me a message so I can send the correct code that needs to be on the tag.

Pleased to have been of some assistance in repairing Tony's memorial site before 2y'stassies could get there. Can't understand why people are so unkind. Took the opportunity to turn a frown into a smiley - sorry for the late log but waited til the cache was reactivated. Hopefully the memorial and cache stay in place now. RIP Tony.

Could not find it also the memorial cross has been thrown onto the grass

After much searching amongst the prickles I had to concede this one as a DNF. ️ My search was not helped by a car that came out of speedway and was locking the gate as I arrived at GZ. It was a bit disconcerting when she drove off up the road but came back and did a pass by to check out what I was doing. I found the prickly prunings from the recent maintenance trip but no cache. Will have to try again on another trip up the highway.

We came to check this cache on our way to Hobart. The cache is still there but was in some rampant gorse. We have pruned the gorse and the cache is now accessible again.

19-Jan-21
Unfortunately this cash is very overgrown with gorse. So much so that we didn’t even see the tribute until on foot and very “prickled”. Hoping some one that knows the reason for this tribute arranges some much needed maintenance

after a full weekend of caching this was collected on the way home, a very plain looking track from the road, its not my favorite sport, but 1 I've heard about and watched on the TV, TFTC TNLN log dry. had an easy trip to the raceway, had some fun getting back onto the highway, never been here before. same as Symmons PLains.

After a weekend in Launceston with RLD4963, we made a quick diversion to stop at this cache. RIP Tony. Thanks for choppersrule for placing the cache and 2y'stassies for adopting and maintaining. A straightforward find.

Our first find in what feels like a life time. Lots of groovy swag but nothing taken as we had nothing to replace it with. We love motorsport and this memorial is a great way to remember those who also loved it.

I did get a prickle or two looking for this one Smile

We've spent the last week or so in Launceston for a little bit of an end-of-year getaway, but today it's time to head back to home to Hobart. As always, we're picking up a few caches along the way!

We've meant to track down this one a couple of times on previous trips to Launceston, but never seemed to have found an opportunity until today. Fortunately we were looking to get a bit off the beaten track in search of a spot for a new hide (GC8H8MV), so we finally found our opportunity!

Pulling up at the GZ, we pretty quickly spotted a likely-looking spot (based on the cache's back-story), and sure enough a container was soon spotted nearby. That didn't mean it was in hand though - the spiky gorse plant enveloping the cache made for a slow and slightly painful extraction (it didn't help that the container had fallen out of its holder into the middle of the bush).

Eventually the cache was in hand and the formalities taken care of, and we were off exploring further inland. Thanks for giving us an incentive to explore this particular part of the world (rather than somewhere else), and RIP Tony.

Thanks Choppersrule for placing this cache and 2y'stassies keeping it on the geo- game board.
Been a long time since I had driven this road so nice to take the scenic root.
Sorry to read about Tony sounded like a great man, wish he was still around to meet at geocaching event.

Done this Cache on a weekend away to Hobart all by myself so was able to find 44 caches including some lengthy multi caches. Also got to see my favourite comedian, some family and friends and a spot of shopping. Just what this girl needed!

Tassie Trip Day 177 - We had to do a little bit of a drive today to collect some information that we missed for a multi and along the way we made a few detours and collected a few caches.

We needed to make a detour to collect some petrol from what we found the be the cheapest fuel in the area and along the way this was a good detour line. We stopped here and collected the cache and didn't smell any fumes from the strip as it was not running today but the cache was in good condition and the log signed and returned to that spot for its hiding

Thanks Choppersrule for placing and 2y'stassies for the keeping of this interesting spot.

Quickly found. The growing thorn bush made it a bit tricky to get to log.
