Logs
A group of caching friends are visiting from the mainland and enjoying the scenery while caching. The log was signed as team (viipers) who include cybergran V, SciFiRulz, Riddell, Ronice88, icybeetas and myself. There are so many beautiful pools on the island, pity I didn't bring my bathers.
Found by the VIIPERS. There may not be snakes on Norfolk Island, but now there are VIIPERS. We are V(al Cybergran V) I(an icybeetas) I(an Riddell) P(am weirdobiker) E(velyn SciFiRulz) R(onice Ronice88) and S(ylvia Riddell who is with us in spirit.)Found this one easily after expecting something more difficult because of the terrain rating. No shortage of fab spots to take your breath away. Out on a multi mission squeezing in caches on a busy tour itinerary. Glad my muggle buddy loves the long history celebrated on Norfolk so here we are. And for me its like Norfolk has been a myth or has at least has been in the imagination mirrored by faded school lessons for so longnow the dream to visit Norfolk Island is real! The holiday suddenly looks busy busy with a schedule of tours, events and 70+ caches to find. From the first step on the island everything has been fabulous. Cache found quickly and logged as VIIPERS - a crew of caching buddies from Vic and Tassie ( who include cybergran V, SciFiRulz, Riddell, icybeetas Weirdobiker) TFTC and the fun.
A group of geocaching friends consisting of Val (cybergran V), Ian (half of the team Riddell) Ian (icybeetas) Pam (weirdobiker) Evelyn (SciFiRulz), Ronice (Ronice88) and Sylvia (half of team Riddell) are touring Norfolk Island with the aim of finding every cache here. This was a quick find of a cache in good condition and the log signed as Viipers to save space. Thank you culture50 for placing and maintaining it as it enhanced our visit to this beautiful island.
Great hint making this an easier find than was expected, thanks culture50 for placing it here for the amusement of the VIIPERS who left nothing behind but their acronym on the log ~ Val, Ian, Icy, Pam, Evelyn, Ronice (and Sylvia who would not have been able to get here with the broken bone in her leg).A favourite point for giving a good indication in what could have been much more difficult to find.
Found during the VIIPERS exploration of the island. Lucky our hire car has 4WD written on it so its built to go anywhere on the island. Nice view! Thanks for the cache.
Our last cache on the island before heading to the airport, we braved the steep, bumpy road down and pulled up just 4m from GZ. It did still take a while looking at the various possibilities before coming across the right one from the right angle, and then heading out to look around the area. We werent sure if the Crystal Pool was the rock pool off to the west end or down the mown path towards the east, but we certainly appreciated the western views!! TFTC, culture50. =^.^=
Beautiful views from up here. Here on Norf'lk for the second time - renewing our Bows for our fifth wedding anniversary Thank you for the cache
What a stunning place sure the locals will know the way down!Enjoying two weeks on Norfolk Island always wanted to visit, now Im here! And theres caches of course! Beautiful place, thank you culture50 for placing this game piece here, showcasing this lovely area and contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy. Happy trails!
Well that's annoying. Came to this very location about a half hour ago, to have a look at the area. Then headed to Bombora, only to then find out this one is here. No pen, but photo to prove find. CheersBundy
(5 of 17 today - including 1 Adventure Lab)Another fun day out with the Woof Patrol ((aka **Calypso 62**, **Jackscruff**; **Goldberry17**, **FunFurMe**, **creativechookie** & me).Today we decided to tackle the west side of the island, starting in the south west and working our way north towards this afternoon's event. And didn't that work a treat.A combination of fascinating history and breathtaking views - and in one instance a breathtaking slope!###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###Got a few complaints about where I led us in as far as parking goes. And personally I agree - we went a little too far down. But we really only found that out when we tried turning around for the drive back out - tight turns near steep cliffs...Sorry guys.Anyway.The cache took a few minutes to spot, but spot it we did. Then we spotted another one!Signed, replaced and away.SLTNLNTFTC
??????where ? ??I looked ??cleaned my glasses then looked some more. and went cross eyed????so it was DOUBLE the fun ?? ??????SLTNLNTFTC ????
Fortunately we were able to drive close to GZ but parking our small fleet of 3 cars was a bit dodgey with the enormous rutts here. It looked beautiful down the bottom but it was too cold and windy to venture down to the pool for a swim. Maybe next trip. Another spot with magnificent views. Thank you geocaching for taking us to all these great scenic spots. I'm sure you wouldn't get to many of them on a regular tour of the island. Cache found or is that caches found? We found 2 identical containers within a metre of each other. I signed the one which was obviously placed for the vertically challenged like me.TFTC # 6030
There were two identical caches with logs in this location. We signed one of them. Such a beautiful place for a cache! Thanks for bringing us here!

#14410 16:30The third day of Geo Adventure 2024 with a group of 30+ geocachers visiting Norfolk Island. Roaming around the island for a few days, a smaller group decided to tackle sthe East coast of the island today.Fun to drive off-road with our little hire cars. Cache was quickly found. TFTC culture50.
We spent a fun and productive week geocaching on Norfolk Island, as well as seeing the spectacular views. We also did several tours and other activities on offer, which highlighted different aspects of the island life and history. Thanks for this cache.
So scenic! Milky pool today. Big swell. May try to come here for a swim on another day when the tide, swell and wind are right. ?? TFTC culture50
OCW frazeydaze. Spotted this little one very quickly. Cache all good. SLRC as found. TFTC.
Found with oldmorty.Short walk to GZ.Cache spotted by oldmorty. Thanks to the CO for the cache.
We'd been warned about the road but found it in very good condition. Found with MummyPenny on this windy day. Thanks culture50.
Amazing spot. Found in the late evening. Found with ItsDozzie, Ziggyau, Everest High, Brewmaker, Tardis and Max Adventurer. TFTC.
#7567 NI Day 3After our breakfast event, harveyt2079 and I headed towards Kingston again to collect caches in the south eastern corner of the island. Having completed our targets in the south eastern corner, it was time to relocate to the south western corner. I'm sure this is often a very scenic spot, but this morning we endured gale force winds here so didn't stick around very long to enjoy it. In fact, in our rush to get out of there, I carelessly reversed over a rut in the road, leaving one tyre in the air. After a change of driver and a bit of a push, we had repositioned the car to make our belated escape. This is one we won't forget in a hurry.TFTC culture50
My buddies: bella at waggy At the start of the slope we saw a "not a Norfolk" plant. Thank you culture50, for creating, placing and maintaining this cache. I have enjoyed finding it and visiting this spot.Follow my story on Instagram @AlphaDeltaIndigo
ADI and I headed here as our next stop with the wind blowing a gale. Plenty of looking before finally spotting the hide and signing. Went for a walk to see the pool but it was anything but crystal with the waves and wind. Nice view. TFTC
Found during a week of geocaching on Norfolk Island with GeoMates. It was a successful week and an adventurous one. Thanks go to culture50 for placing this cache.
The day was getting long when we found this one but even with the low light we grabbed it.
Caught the glimmer of it in the corner of my eye! Couldnt get it open and its fraying fyi
First stop for the day. This is a fabulous spot. Cache was found after a few moments, all in plain site. The tide was low so made the climb down for a beautiful swim in the Crystal Pool.
Day 3 of my Norfolk Island adventure. I can understand why people want to live here . Its a little bit of paradise. Wow so much history on the island, Im enjoying my wandering seeing the sites Some logs signed as N2OThis is my 12070find.Thankyou culture50 for placing and maintaining this cache
On my last full day on Norfolk Island, I picked out a few isolated caches in places that sounded interesting. Here, I was drawn by the fact some of the younger members of our family group had been swimming in the crystal pools during the week. While I had no intention of clambering down, I was keen to gather another cache and see the view. It took three of us a little while to find this one, simply because of the sheer number of options! Just as I called a halt, my dad spotted it. Phew! Didn't much want to leave tomorrow with any DNFs. Thanks for the cache.
The coordinates were off. The hint wasnt clear, but unfortunately I did not find it after searching for long time.
Last cache for the day. Had some problem, since the GPS coordinates obviously were slightly out, but following the hint, we expanded the search area slightly, and then, looking in the right angle and height, the little cache showed itself.
A quick find, the hint helped a lot as the GPS was slightly off. Thank you
14th find for my 2023 NI adventure!! Been meaning to come down here and can't wait to go a little further! Tftc!
Over with IolantheK from Brisbane celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary [^]Out for another day of caching up the west side of the island.Nice easy find (once we spotted the container that is), cache in good condition [^]TFTC culture50
T-Tech and I are visiting Norfolk Island for our 40th anniversary. We arrived from Brisbane and are staying for 2 weeks at Endeavour Lodge, and plan to get some R&R, see all of the sites, learn the history, and gather every cache here so we can claim the Se Dun Challenge Today we had a leisurely start with a visit to the Show followed by a wander through town and a coffee at our favourite cafe. The plan for the rest of the day is to visit Bombora Beach, Crystal Pool, 100 Acre Wood, Headstone Point and St Barnabas Church, gathering caches along the way.We had been up the cliff and down the track and stopped to grab this cache on the way back. Took a few minutes to spot. TFTC, culture50.
# 8913 Today I joined iPlod65, Joolay, barb2e and contesta on the first full day of our Norfolk trip. It was just stunning out there today and we're starting to be able to find our way around. Zoom zoom zooming around in Kermit (green not red) Logging as DEMCBR.Fantastic weather, warm and sunny after chilly temps when leaving home. This was a quick and easy find and here at Crystal pool today. Thanks so much for the many caches culture50 and of course for giving me a reason and incentive to get out here, and to experience this part of the world in a different light
During July my wife and I took a break from Melbourne and spent a wonderful week on the Island - the first time for me (but hopefully not the last) and the second for her. Such a delightful place! I took my GPSr, with the traditionals downloaded (I don't really make the time to do puzzles or multis) and figured I would find a few as we went around the place. I never had any intention of finding all 41 of them, but somewhere around day 5 I realised it was actually feasible.
In the end it was a close call - one quite tough-to-get-to cache (Bird Island) I had to visit twice after not reading the description before my first visit and discovering it is really a multi and then stuffing up the calculations so I had an almost blind search for the cache; another (St Barnabas) was out of its hidey hole so took three visits before I found it among some fallen leaves nearby). But I got there and managed to claim them all.
In the interests of saving the limited data on my phone, I only look placeholder drafts during the week and am completing them back home, a month later. So with all due apologies, they are going to be pretty generic for the most part. But I will add comments about those that I particularly remember. No matter how detailed the final logs, I want to say a big thanks to those who have placed the caches and those who continue to maintain them. I had great fun finding them and they really helped make sure I saw as much of the Island as possible. So - a big and sincere TFTC

This was another of those that took two visits. Not that it is hard at all, but I was really short of time on the first visit so only had a half-hearted look. The second time I just needed a slightly more focused approach and it was quickly found. Sadly the tide was high and the wind had whipped up some very rough seas, so there was no visit to the Crystal Pools themselves.

One last find for today and hello, it's a culture50 owned cache. I've come a long way to grab a cache from a fellow Brisbanite... Throughout the course of our morning, Mrs. Gunnie and I had regularly met up with a group of...err...more mature folk who had clearly chosen a similar scenic path to us. As we pulled up just near GZ here, I was enroute to the container when they also arrived.
Pfft I thought, I'll be in and our before they get close. Sadly, not the case and while I found the container, I had to enter extreme stealth mode while the mob sauntered past. I then 'appeared' back on the path behind them which probably confused them a little.
Down the water's edge to enjoy the area, then back into town to call it a day.
Thanks for the cache culture50.

The fresh batch of convicts had now been imprisoned on NI for in excess of 24 hrs. Plans to escape to New Zealand have failed, plans to escape to the high country provided the chance to survey other possible exit points from the Island.
The third plan to use a long boat from the North East also failed, it appears Captain Cook was killed by natives of Hawaii during his third visit to the Pacific island group. We were also over 200 years to late for his sail past.
Next option was the SW escape routes. While the ocean views form this point were absolutely fabulous proving wonderful views there was no way to leave the Island at this place. In fact one would look for ways to extend the sentence.

Parked up the top for a bit of a hike down, and back again. Circled potential objects for a while but accurate coords helped to eventually spot the cache. TFTC Culture50
Time to head to Norfolk Island to celabrate our 70th birthdays. When we were here before we were not geocachers, this visit will be spent gathering geocaches and revisiting our favourite places. Our appologies for the generic logs it does not take away the enjoyment we have found in the fantastic places they have been placed and all the different styles of caches that we are enjoying,

Found while heading over with the family to get some lunch over near Anson Bay, got quite a few caches and also BUCKETED down on with rain, despite the rain we still had an amazing time in this beautiful area.
After missing this one yesterday because it was raining A LOT, we decided to come down here this morning. We parked at the top of the hill and walked down as we weren't sure of the capability of our hire car. Walked down and made a quick find once we were down there, not quite sure what the actual 'crystal pool' is, but we got some nice pictures from the cliffedge.

With the Se Dun challenge in mind, we set off to clean up the west coast this morning, before a lunch at Anson Bay. The weather started off good, but soon the grey rolled in, then a few scattered showers, then some steady rain, so we ended up wet, but with 18 finds for the morning.
It wasn't raining, but the shoulders of the (sloping) track were rutted and mucky, so we decided to park and walk rather than risk a bog, our little 4WD does seem quite gutless on a steep bitumen incline, on slippery clay I'd be worried.
The cache was found quickly, and in good shape, and the delights of the area photographed.... TFTC!

We read the last logs - and it was bucketing down today - hopefully we'll get a window to return.
Got it, and got a bit stuck. Warning, do not take your small hire car down on a wet day, hahaha. Found with NutCacheBNE
OMG bogged the car down here. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE DOWN WHEN WET.
Anyway, what a lovely spot, well worth the walk back up top to an awaiting rescue taxi.

Today was our first full day on NI with the weather overcast and only a few short showers. Due to the number of caches found, will do a generic log. Thank you to the CO's for placing these caches in the respective location. These caches brought us to many great views of this beautiful islands. TFTC
Spending the day caching around Norfolk Island between a few showers. We covered quite a bit of the island and traveled along many of the minor roads.
Thanks to the COs who have placed hides on the island as well as Endeavour3 who has many caches, as well as maintaining the caches of others.

Did not know this was here checked and I was 7 metres away great spot.
We didn’t risk the drive down the hill as the front wheel drive car would find the track a bit slippery. What is the policeman doing down here? A bit of recreational fishing!

Trip log: Norfolk Island... Not something we had been planning to do but with GreyHams noticing travel here was starting up again, a good deal on flights and that this would count as a new caching 'country' this was indeed a very tempting location to visit.
Puzzles were solved, our double vaccinations certificates ready to go. A last minute change in the entry requirements added our PCR tests... but we arrived.
We had a challenge to collect as many of the caches as we could in the 48 hours we would be on the Island... A caching trip, but one that guided us around into every hidden gem the Island had to offer. All its beauty, history, scenic and quirky... and moisture! Humidity that sucked the energy out of every pore as we sweated our way about, but it was awesome!
An event the first evening was fantastic to meet with endeavour3, a wealth of local knowledge and assistance... both caching and the local area. It was great to confirm details, amend as needed and with a few DNFs help us back on track.
An honourable mention to the cows, especially the one that licked all over the car, the feral chickens (but not the roosters that wake up far to early and noisily) and the very friendly waving people everywhere we went!
Thanks for your cache that helped guide us about, and can all the caches be found within 48 hours... I'm very pleased to say that yes we could!

Aquilus1 and myself were on a mission: Go to Norfolk Island and clear the place out in 48 hours! This we achieved as we arrived well prepared, having ground out the puzzles (some with assistance) so that we had coords for nearly all hides before leaving Australia.
Brain tickler test & vaccination certificates in hand, we were shocked on arrival that our Australian mobiles had no roaming coverage....NONE! But, thankfully it seems most accommodation not only comes with a car, but comes with a phone as well.
I swear we did at least 5 laps of the island, I knew my way around very well by the end. NI is such a beautiful place, I am coming back with the family in a month and I already know exactly where I will take them.
On our first day we hosted an event and thankfully the local legend cacher, endeavour3, graced us with his presence. Some sage advice on the trickiest of NI hides was gladly received
And, it has to be said......OMG THE HUMIDITY!!! Canberra has none at all, it was a major shock to the system!
