Hi tmann421, today I did the Tongarirro Crossing using a pocket query I ran last year before you archived this cache. Not realising it was archived, I replaced the log with a write in the rain sheet in a zip lock bag. I also removed all the soaked logs and still have them if you want. Anyway, the cache is up and running again so you might like to ask you North Island reviewer if he will kindly reinstate it. Regards Mike Black (aka Kiwimykl)
Found with NZDi while doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. I generally cache by phone app but when in the great outdoors I save my intended caches to a pocket query and load them on my Garmin eTrex 20. Which is why I thought it strange that this cache didn't show up on the Garmin but did on c:geo. At GZ the cache was a QEF, but the log was soaked so I replaced it. It was only when I got back to the lodge that I realised I had found an archived cache. Well it is all good now and the reviewer should be able to unarchive it if the CO asks nicely, so I am logging the find in the hope that is what happens.

One of the most challenging hikes we have ever done! We left our campervan at Ketetahi and ride a bus to the start at about 6:30 AM.
The weather was wonderful and sunny and the views amazing, it took as waaaaay long than expected to make it to the end but we did it and we are super proud about it!
This was our first cache on the trail, we were really grateful for the caches on our way, so that we could stop and relax while enjoying the amazing views.
Thanks a lot for hiding!

Last time we did the Tongariro Crossing the weather was very bad. This time it was beautiful hiking weather exempt the wind but we were able to see the things we didn’t see last time. It was a beautiful day for doing his hike and going to Tongariro summit.
But the weather brought the people. Last time we were about 10 people altogether doing the crossing on that day. Today it were hundreds. Not so easy to search caches on the route but this one is quite good hidden on the way up so you can do a good “break”.
We found it right away at 9:55 am.
Thanks for the hide.

At World’s End – New Zealand – One of our dream become true.
Our plan was to stay 4 weeks in New Zealand. But this wasn’t this easy to manage at work. So we moved spontanic the plan from march to november. We informed us before about point of interessts. The list was this long so we decided to go by campervan from the north to the south to have the most mobility. We arrived after way to much hours in Auckland and started there our round trip. At first we enjoyed the area in auckland and the north. In Waitomo we were able to see and enjoy glohworms in one of the famous caves. But this area had a lot of nice hiking trails were we could discovered the Piripiri Caves, Natural Bridge and the Marokopa Falls. This was already impressive to see and still the beginning of our adventure for life. The trip went on over Okere Falls Scenic Reserve direction Rotorua. In this area we enjoyed each hour, because each corner was different. We visited the Haumurana Springs – what amazing water -, Blue Lake and Green Lake and relaxed in Kerosene Creek. We liked all the water and in our travel guide we found a hike cloth to the Huka Falls, which ofcourse we did as well. All this flowers were bloom. One oft the Highlights was Wai-O-Tapu. The weather was perfect and all this colors awesome and the geysir a nice shower. By Campercan the to tour went on direction Tongariro Alpine with a short stop at Orakei Korako and the Tongariro River Loop Track. Lu like nice hiking tours and what could be the best for her birthday? Of course the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing. We started early in the morning and walked approximately 9 hours over gras, stones, snow and colorful water. Now we had to leave the Heart of North New Zealand and went over Taranaki Falls to the East Coast with the goal Napier. The weather was cloudy and often raining but a small sightseeing was a must have. The last stop on the North Irland was Wellington. But it was only raining and some streets were already flooded. That’s why we change spontanic our plan and only did the First Cache of New Zealand and went by ship over the Marlboro Sound to Picton. We went over Farewell Spit to the lonely Wharariki Beach with sea lions. On the way back to the big streets we stopped at Waikoropupu Spring and Janie Sesson Shipwreck and drove untypical to Karamea. In Germany we do not have this much and public caves and that’s way we enjoyed this area! Cloth to the West Coast we took a look at the Pancake Rocks. The weather was just raining and so we could not see the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier, but we still visited them. We leaved the bad weather in the hills and enjoyed the Sun at Ship Creek, Thunder Creek, Fantail Falls and the Blue Pools. Wow they were relly blue and this clean and deep. I never saw something similar before. About Wanaka we read a lot in our travel guide and looked forward to it. There arrived we visited the Puzzling World and walked around the sea. Queenstown the next town we drove just through because at this time there was a marathon and it was really campervan unfriendly. So we used the time and drove to Milford Sound and enjoyed the hills surround us on the water. I never felt this small. After we are landed again on land the trip goes on to the Chasm and Clifden Caves and the Clifden Suspension Bridge. Wow what an adventure. At the end we visited a few cities like Bluff, Duneding, Moeraki Boulders and Christchurch were our Trip sadly ends.
At all this places we looked for nice and unique caches which shows us places which we never would had seen without. We enjoyed the nature and wildlife each day and it was really an adventure for life. At the end we drove approximately 5000 kilometeres and felt this relaxed.
Thanks to all owners for placing this caches and this much informations which we got about the particular areas. This was an adventure for life for us. Thanks for this beauty time.

Notre but aujourd'hui c'est d'aller jusqu'à Emerald Lakes

Today we decided to do the Tongariro Crossing. We did not know how difficult this 22Km walk would be. We realized the we have past the age to do dose difficult hiking trail. No the less we did it, it took us 9 hour 15 minutes to complete the crossing. When we saw the RV the only thing we wanted to do was to go to sleep.

Day five of my New Zealand geocaching holiday.
To do the crossing was high on my list, I missed it last I was here and that was 20 years ago.
The track was crowded in the start, I passed other walkers that in turn passed me as I was doing the caches.
This was a good place to stop and catch my breath and have some lunch while I logged the cache
Even if the track was quite crowded in places it was still a great experience to do the walk.
Thanks for giving me a few along the track

Found while walking the Tongariro Crossing. Well placed to find and deal with even though there were huge crowds of people on the track today. Thanks tmann421.
On the way up we could find this one quiet quick.
So far seen on this trip: Thailand and New Zealand.

We missed this one on the way up but made sure to grab it on the way back down after summiting Mt Ngaurahoe in very snowy conditions. Great day!
Quick stop here to have a sip to drink and letting a few trampers pass. Thanks for the cache!
Found this cache few days ago. Nice crossing in windy and rainy weather. Thanks for cache!
Sorry for the very late log. Found this one while attempting the crossing. Rain and strong winds forced us to turn around on the South Crater. 2nd time Ive had to turn around in the same area. I will complete the crossing one day. Pen wasnt working to well in the cold and the logsheet was getting wet while trying to scratch my name on the log sheet. Thanks for the cache.
Shattered rock indeed. Spotted the right rock from some distance away and knew it had to be there.
Did this cache on the way down. Amazing how all the muggles coming up dropped away after midday

I spent an enjoyable four weeks in New Zealand. I saw a lot of beautiful natural sites. On the way back from south to north, I found this cache. Thanks for the cache, greetings from Prague.
I managed to grab this one whilst doing the crossing on a wet day with no visibility. Thankfully no one is looking around so I didn't need to worry about being spotted.
Sp good to be back up here again, this time with Mrs Waiiti20 accompanying me. Very cloudy today, but still very spectacular, and good to see so many out enjoying the walk. TFTC tmann421, #8690
Today I started one of the very best (or perhaps the best) geocaching experience of my live: First a part of the legendary Tongariro Alpine crossing (up to the sumnit at red crater to see the elmerald lakes) and than back and climbing the Ngauruhoe. The weather was perfect (sunny, but not hot) and I had a awsome day out here. After rushing to red crater in 1:45 hours I came back for mount Doom. And after finishing that I came down the lovely alpine crossing. Now in the afternoon nearly all people had left the area and so I could find and log the cache quite good.
Thanks a lot for the cache.

Thank you for putting out this cache on the Tongariro Alpine crossing! We did this amazing trail on Easter Sunday with (literally!) two thousand fellow trampers. The weather was perfect, so the views, the colorful rocks and lakes were absolutely stunning.

Out to walk a part of the crossing today with Gorbygorbachov, rustynz, Rebel98 and harisree.
We were really taking our time and enjoying fine weather, so reached the cache after 6kms (including the Soda Springs diversion) and 2,5 hours from the carpark. Barely warmed up at this point Signed and on our way to climb Mount Doom.
Well, nowhere to rush, we were not planning to do the whole thing anyway. Although, in the end of the day we had walked the distance almost equivalent of it - 17km.

Me and rustynz have been up Mnt Tongariro summit today, there was a group of us that started out at 8am but ended up just her and I. It was my 3000th milestone cache and she was happy to come along! I mean it is such a fantastic tramp, veeeery demanding and physically hard! But we managed it and some much younger women at the red crater commented: "Well done, you have done well both of you" Rusty thought they were being rude and condescending but I took it as a compliment I suppose. If you have done tramping most of your life then even though you're 8o yrs old you wouldn't think anything of it! Not that I'm 80yrs old though... just a mere 55 yrs young. We weren't shattered either, but we were getting a little tired I have to say. We sat down at the cache site, it felt good but we dare not stay any longer than absolutely necessary in case we don't want to move at all!
After watching from above Harisree and ivss_xx find the cache earlier in the day, it was now Gorby and my turn to look for the cache.
Only a few walking along the Crossing track now, its hard on the knees these steps! A quick find as we divert off the track, following my GPS to GZ. Thanks for the hide

Down for the annual trip with school to complete the crossing for their geography research. Busy on the track today and mixed weather conditions - amazing to see what some people wear - some one looked like they had been transplanted from Queen's St.....I almost wished it had rained...... TB visit
#1949 Another quick find during this trek that I haven't done for 25 years. A beautiful cloudless day with only a gentle breeze to cool us down. A really lovely day.
As it turns out, our day was significantly delayed from the hit at the northern end as it was getting dark. That didn't delay is - we had lights etc, however we had to help a pained and limping tourist and his father off the mountain. These guys were so unprepared for this environment - even with the signs informing folk to NOT proceed if they weren't equipped. They started at 7am, we started at 11am and their progress was so slow it wasn't funny.
Anyhow, crisis averted and we got them down off the mountain so you wouldn't have to read about them in the paper.
All good at GZ. Thanks for the smilie.

We spent 4 incredibly wonderful weeks in New Zealand for vacation and
had a lot of fun to discover all the marvels of this country.
Day 14 - we picked a sunny day and did the Tongariro Alpine Crossing including the peak of Mount Ngauruhoe.
The scenery was absolutely amazing - like nothing we've ever seen before.
It ranged from alpine shrubs, to barren moonscapes, to steep climbs and descents, sheer drop offs, weird rock formations, fantastic volcanic pools in different shades of blue and green to lush rainforrest!
It took us 9 hours to complete the whole track.
Besides we still found time for geocaching and picked up quite a few caches on our way.
This was one of them!

From 19th February to 20th March Stadibast and I visited New Zealand. Half of the time we made a trip around the North-Island. After a short stay in Auckland we went to: Bay of Islands, Cape Reinga, Rotorua and the Wai-o-Tapu-Thermal Wonderland, the great Taupo-lake… We made a Rafting Tour in the Waitomo-Glowworm-caves or hiked the Tongariro –Alpine-Crossing and, and…
In the second part of our holidays we visited the south island, hiked in the Abel-Tasman-Reserve , went to the Marlborough-Sounds, the Golden Bay, the Oparara-Arch, the Franz-Josef- and Fox-Glaciers, had a great sight on Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman, relaxed at the Wanaka- and Hawea-Lakes,….
New Zealand is a very amazing country and with exceptional natural sites. We are very impressed of these great nature monuments and sights and we are happy that we met so much friendly and helpful people.
Great place to hide a Cache.

I was pretty shatterd by this time and asked myself, do I really want to spend time looking for this one. The answer was yes and It was a quick find. We were walking anti-clockwise and the big masses had passed by mid-day so we could log unseen, TFTC
We had to wait for some muggles to get out of sight but eventualy we were able to log in TFTC
We prepared the Tongariro Alpine Crossing since a long time, today it is now or never do it...
So, fefe.adrien, some friends and I decided to go there, it was a little bit cloudy at the summit but with a perfect temperature for this trek.
It was amazing to walk among with LOR movie landscapes ! These volcanoes are very impressive, we can observe all different signs of activity & the geomorphology.
Quite hard to climb but easy to find this cache
fefe.adrien and I signed on the logbook with our team name : Lekiprokos

Today is a lucky day for Ninalila and I and our two American and German friends : we are going to the famous "Tongariro Alpine Crossing" !!!
There are no word to describe what we saw and lived, it was just AMAZING !!!
During all the track we shared so many beautiful places, landscapes, funny talks and made so many good pictures.
The weather was pretty good, just too much clouds so we couldn't see Mt Doom. But i'm sure we will come back and do it again to go to the summit
All the boxes had good coordinates and were easy to find, especially with the hints
At the same time, it was a good moment to show to our friends what Geocaching is.
We logged with our team name : Lekiprokos
Thank you to all owners for the caches and the discoveries.

Loving the walk and views although the caches along the way give a great excuse for a bit of a breather. An easy find here

SJT_NZ and I were doing the Northern Circuit anticlockwise and due to the 500-700 muggles dripping in sweat and asking us why we were going the wrong way we had to bypass this one - gutted!
Thanks for the cache.
Many greetings from Germany, Nariza & Korshi

Made this cache on our 4 weeks honeymoon through New Zealand. So many great places to see in this beautiful country.
On the 16h day of travelling with our campervan we stayed in Whakapapa and went for the Tongariro Crossing. It was a beautiful day with good weather and fine conditions. But we didn’t expect so many people to be here. Sometimes it was hard to hike our speed because of no chance to overtake slower hikers. But it was great and we also did geocaching on the crossing. We found nearly all the caches we searched. This was one of it.
Greetings from Germany

Today we walked the Tongariro Crossing. The weather was rainy and windy. Not the best conditions but what the heck!?
Thanks and greetings from Germany!

Today we did the Tongariro Alpin Crossing together we JUKS. Weather forecast was great and we took the early bird shuttle to starting point. After 7 1/2 hours walking & hiking incl. one extension to Mt. Tongariro Summit, we arrived at the final point and GPS showed 8 found caches. Thanks for hiding them. and greetings from Germany.
Found this one on my descent after scoping it out on the way up.
I lost my pen on the ascent somewhere nr soda springs and so have provided proof in the form of the attached photo.
The find was great subtle and/or obvious - haven't really made my find up but loved it all the same.

Very quick find during the walk on the Tongariro crossing : the place of the hide is obvious.
During this day of walking, I could make the most of this landscape between Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe under the sun. This site deserves its ranking as World Heritage, and I understand that it has been chosen as film sets.

During the trip to New Zealand, I could see and visit many places, lot of them are very nice and sometime amazing. And there is always a geocache nearby! I could find some caches every day. New Zealand is a nice country for vacation and for geocaching !

During our 3 days walk around Tongariro I found this cache. Great landscape, thank you for showing this to us!
Found during our holiday in New Zealand. Thanks for the cache. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
Out and about today with my three muggle friends to get trained for our upcoming Heaphy Track Adventure. The weather forecast was bad already two day out but this wasn’t a reason to cancel the trip. It turned out to be still a fun trip with zero visibility and up to 55 km/h winds and gusts. TFTC
Down doing the Crossing - we were suppose to do it yesterday but it was too wet. Very very busy today to make up for yesterday. The weather is fantastic and this cache gave me a good excuse to have a rest. We did the crossing a few years back and these steps have changed a lot TFTC
This was our first “found it“ on the Tongariro Crossing Track. We appreciated the walking in sunshine. TFTC
So cold in this spot! My hands were freezing!
Welcome to Mordor, the land of evil weather. ..
I have already walked the Tongariro Crossing many years ago, on my first backpacking trip in NZ. Back them I've waited for a good weather, waited and waited, but ended up walking in the snow and gog and seeing absolutely nothing...
So today I tried again. The Tongariro summit was too cloudy and it was sooooo cold, but I finally saw the red crater and lakes! Plus, today there are caches on the way, so it's much more fun (:
Thanks for placing caches here and going through the efforts of mainting them. TFTC from Israel!
