I will put out a new cache with Dino in the vicinity. Just letting people know so hopefully no one tries in vain. Watch this space Wink

With the DNFs and my inability to get out to Spring Bank at this point in my life I am going to say so long to Time for a Paddle. It has been fun and I hope to get out at some point in the future.

Day 9 Mega trip
A plan was hatched amongst a number of Tasmanian teams before we left home to hire a boat to visit three islands in Lake Burley Griffin to get the caches out there. Today was the day the Tassie contingent and one Queenslander left dry land. A great time was had by all. However after searching from the water and from land, we failed to unearth this crash.

20-Apr-19
Sadly a DNF while out with the Tassie crew, and one banana bender

20-Apr-19
Out and about but failed to unearth this one.

With 8 sets of eyes looking from the water and on land we had no luck

This geocacher reported that the cache might be missing.

03-Feb-19
Have looked for this one about three times now since it was last found - all with no luck. Went back today to have another look but the recent rains had closed in the area a bit more than last time. Will be back again.

While on 'the island' for "The Terrain Five Picnic Event" by DARKSIDEDAN a great time was had chatting with other cachers, and sharing stories, and food. I had got to the island a little late, having come down from Taree, so headed straight to the Event, and then checked the GPSr for other caches after most of the Attendees had drifted off.
This was the closest, and with a GAFF1 find at 1145, I was carefully able to get the dry, and intact cache in my hand. Good coordinates, but too small to take a CSM. TNLNSL.
I did have my collection of Trackables that I had brought along to the Event with me, so am bringing them through for mileage - okay, kilometres.

THANKS Rurik_farserkr for a great excuse to explore this island, and sad that, since the late logging of this cache - 1/5/19 - that this has been Archived.

Reperio at 0955.

With the attraction of a kayaking event in the ACT this weekend, I headed down from Newcastle today, and picked up a few highly sought after caches along the way. After arriving on the island for the event, a group of us wandered over to grab this one, and although the cache was quickly spotted and retrieved, the signing duties took a little longer as the log wasn’t in good condition. We added another piece of paper for the log, but it should really be looked at. Nice fun cache.

Gratias Rurik.

Today I braved rhe cold winds, waves and the wet to canoe out to Springbank Island with ALL7 to attend the Terrain Five Picnic event held by DSD and also grab this cache whilst there, after getting the other one on the island. We got out of the canoe and pulled the canoe onto the bank safely and high five for making it and not capsizing. We got close to gz and ALL7 went to the right and I to the left looking and then i spotted something that the cache may be hanging from and went in and gave thumbs up to ALL7 who passed me the pen and I signed log with our names and placed back in container and back to safe ground. Tftc rurik

Given the T5 event was so close it would be rude not to pick this one up. A group of us went over (one of many) and the hide was soon found. The log is not in the best condition but was signable. TFTC

Found with Canberra group .. thanks

01-Sep-18
Although we missed out on the event here on the island this morning (GC7RN61), all was not lost. We not only had an awesome adventure and challenge paddling out here against the wind in our little inflatable boat, but we still got to find the two T5 caches here, including this one. We had to go out on a limb to get it but after our struggles this morning, this was easy peasy. This is day 84 my of current daily cache streak. The clouds had come over by now and we were both started to feel cold so we didn't hang around long. Logged signed and returned. TFTC

01-Sep-18
This cache was on our list of ones we had to find today, as we had paddled over to this island to attend an event. It was a wildly windy day and the headwind and waves were all difficult to cope with while paddling the canoe. We arrived very wet and this was the second cache we found, picking it up after we attended the event.
Thank you Rurik for placing this cache and for the adventure of getting to GZ.

Found the well placed cache from the land side with a little balancing. Tftc.

Sailed over and found with LittleSparr0w who paddled out from CYC. Capsized the kayak and destroyed her phone on the way back. Oops. TFTC

A fun spot, TFTC! Log book a bit damp. Now I have my bounce back Wink

TFtC grabbed while out on the lake for a kayak
Log was a bit damp but still could sign

12-Mar-18
After paddling out to watch the balloons on Canberra Day, we then headed over to check out this island. Did the wander around the island, then read that this was best approached from the water so paddled around to GZ. After spying the cache, we then struggled to get our large canoe into there. We finally managed though (collecting foliage and spiders along the way) and logged the cache. May have been easier for us at least to have attempted this from the shore.
Great to get another paddle smiley

We originally tried this one from the land side without success, but then as we passed nearby on about stage 5462 of the whereipaddle we detoured over to get it. I manfully prevented the kayak from drifting away whilst Noodles22 made the retrieval.

Out on the lake in ACT in order to find my 10Kth cache this weekend with Delloro. He brought along his 2 man kayak so we could share the paddling. And oh boy did need that. We were out there for almost 5 hours to find all of the t5 caches!
Cool air conditioning in the car for the long drive back to Sydney!
Thanks for the cache.

24-Feb-18
Mrs Jmanjezza didn’t like looking too closely for this one in the boat, especially when she read one of the previous logs saying their was spiders. We did look for a bit though,. Nothing looked cache like, soo we left.

17-Feb-18
Tftc. Spiders everywhere and a bit waterlogged but cool cache!

11-Feb-18
It was another stinking hot sunday afternoon in Canberra so we decided to cool off a bit - we grabbed the kayak and the geopoodles and went for a paddle, and it was a good excuse to grab a couple of island caches. It took a bit to get myself into a position where I could spot the cache, but when I did I saw the cord and quickly located it. Tftc.

10-Feb-18
Found 12:43 10/2/18 with SimpsonFamily15. The group of us tried various entry points into the foliage. Thank you Rurik_farserkr for the cache.

10-Feb-18
TFTC. Took our team of four a few mins to locate once under the willow by water. Hubby clambered up and out for the retrieval and signing duties. Not ideal location for those with a fear of spiders!! Deep breath and maybe they won’t bite. Third cache find on the lake today with Mr Windy finding our first Kayak based caches. Loved every minute!

10-Feb-18
Tape has come loose presumably due to recent heat. Done a quick fix but won’t last log. Owner may need to check

I set out this morning to find four caches in Lake Burley Griffin, but this one was the primary objective as it is very close to the site of my mother-in-laws childhood home - they lived here at Springbank until the land was resumed for construction of the lake. I have visited a few times, but only ever via the jetty at the opposite end of the island so this was quite a different experience. Wasn't sure which way to approach from, so had to try a couple of options before I got myself into the right little nook amongst the Willows - from there it was a very simple find though the log was damp and difficult to write on.
Thanks, Rurik - I enjoyed seeing the island from a different perspective!

It's Australia day weekend, so that must mean Finalf29 is battling it out at CanCon and I am caching with AngelG27... and thus nature is balanced. We got the "Nifty" canoe out on the water of Lake Burley Griffin this morning. Perfect conditions... cool and overcast, with beautiful flat water. We had a great time finding T5's. I collected four, then I found another 7 land caches during the day. I was privileged to join in on a puzzle solving afternoon with AngelG27, ZQX, Tikvanz and Fox in Jox... I learnt some new techniques, but boy did they think quick. Thanks AngelG27 for a perfect day Smile

This was my third for the day. AngelG27 already has a smiley on this cache, so I supplied her entertainment, while she watched me scramble high and low until I finally spotted it. Thanks

A paddle from Weston Park for a quick find. Been years since I have been here. A nice spot far from the maddening crowd. TFTC.

02-Jan-18
Jumped into my yak here from collecting The Mt Cache. It was the. Apparent that I should have taken things more slowly as the yak slid and nose dived off the launch and threw me and my bag into the water! Good thing I had my phone in a sandwich bag!! Everything survived, but it just reminded me about how unco I am on the yak and really should have more practice just getting in and out!! Anyway a short sail around the island edge and I came face to face with the tree, I nosed my way in for a looksee and discovered just where he Cache was placed. Then it was a matter of some strategic limb sucking and uses branches to propel me into the depth to be able to get my name on the log. With the job done and the back peddling required to make it out into the open. I brushed off the couple of water spiders that decided to try and hitch a ride before I set off to the next little island.

01-Jan-18
Found @ 4:58pm, the first of three to finish off 2017

I launched from near the Lake Cruises jetty and managed to find my way into the cache via the water. Really appreciate this one, a favourite for me - thanks for giving me another reason to visit this island Rurik_farserkr!!

This is the second time I have been to this cache, but the first time I have managed to sign it. The previous time to lake was seething in high winds and I stupidly went out as I had just borrowed the kayak and was determined to make the most of it. Then, the swell kept me out of the water as I would have been bashed against the trees, so I jumped of and went from land side. Hmmmm, I could see it but the wind and the spray (yes, spray!!) kept me away. Frustrated, I logged it but then deleted it the next day.

This time, their was the gentlest of breezes and I glided over the lake almost effortlessly. I remembered where it was, but I couldnt find a way in so I again landed and had a closer look, there it is.... but I left my pen on the kayak, so I try to see a nice way in, cant really see any so I choose instead brute force. Wallah, I now have the cache in hand and this time successfully leave my mark.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

Time for an early morning swim, or three. Drove down to the lake, plenty of muggles of all shapes and sizes working off last nights indulgences. Had the boardies on and the new dry pouch to test out. Wandered over Aspen and took the plunge. Ahhh, water was perfect, and it wasn't even 8.00am. A quick swim over to A2 with an equally quick find 'Carillion Chimes'. Never been here before, I wonder when I'll be back? Skipped A1 on the return, just to give me a reason to make the return swim one day.

Had contemplated searching for a new cache over at Parliament House but this morning's caching had been cut short, the misses not feeling too fell after a bit too much Christmas cheer with the girls last night. Haaaaa, no sympathy, but she really wasn't feeling too well and our three youngsters needing some guidance with it being the first weekend of the school holidays.

Drove around the lake to Blue Gum Point, another easy swim across to Spinnaker Island. Never knew seagulls to be that territorial, but these guys were not happy with me being there at all. Wasn't the season for newborns, so guess they simply weren't the neighbourly type. Grass growing a bit, but relatively confident of no wiggly sticks. Another quick find of 'Wild Oats', the cache sitting a little exposed, but there wasn't much around to cover it upon departure. Not too many out this way I guess anyway. Another island ticked off, that's 5 of the 6 in Lake Burley Griffin (A2 the only one I've not stepped on to).

Has previously contemplated swimming across to Springbank Island, but previously mentioned time restraints ruled that option out. Couldn't have much more than 1000m though.

Back to the geomobile, driving to Action Peninsula and parking at the jetty just off Lawson Crescent. Jumped in for the final swim, guessing about 400m across to the largest of the lake's islands. Crossed without issue, the odd kayak and paddleboarder the only ones coming within cooee.

Back on terra firma it was a quick traverse and find to/of 'Mt Springback?'. Looking around, knowing I had been here some time ago, nothing looked familiar, No real surprise, it was SOME time ago. Over to the BBQ area, some photos of the surrounding views, then a little hunt for 'Time for a Paddle'. Found from the land side, no issues in that regard.

Back to the picnic tables, a quick snack, a few minutes contemplating the morning's efforts (ooooh, wooden toilet seats), then into the water and back across to the geomobile.

Overall a great Summer's morning caching adventure. 4 from 4, dry pouch performed admirably and home before 10.00am.

I finally got around to actually asking Aquilus1 if I could borrow a kayak and as it happens I can have it but I had to get it this morning. So I take the geowifes geomobile to see if it will fir and it was a very touch and go thing. Anyway, with the nose of the kayak having to be hoisted onto the dashboard, I could finally close the hatch.

Soooo, I have a kayak sitting in the car downstairs from work... and I am a bit bored...sod it, lets go and do some now! I park in one of the carparks near Weston park that has a nice little beach and head off. Hmm, the wind really picked up and there was a significant swell, and I was worried I would lose my second work phone in two weeks to kayaking incidents, but it was too late to turn around now.

This was the second one found, I initially tried to find it from the water but it was so choppy that I was being pushed around all over the place, so decided to make landfall and a tiny little inlet the size of a bath tub and have a look from there. Soon found, left my mark and I was off to go climb a mountain.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

#2267 My geocaching tool kit now includes a kayak. So lets say these caches are now a little more accessible. I came out here with the Green-martian, who had already stepped foot on this island. Took 40 minutes to paddle against the wind, and 20 minutes on the return. I didn't find the cache from the water as I was already on the island, but it was a quick find being rather cautious with my footing and log handling. Log was slightly humid but still able to sign. Replaced as found. Thanks Rurik for the adventure.

26-Mar-17
Having made the decision a while ago this was the morning for the paddle out to the 4 caches in this area with dty73 and Youban, it was good to see it was the best day to head out. Right on the light at 7am we set off finishing back at the the beach about 8.15am. Dty73 taking a while to adjust being on water but successfully went around staying out of it and the driest of us all! This was our first stop, pushing and wriggling through the branches and snags and finally getting into a spot to grab the cache that was spotted floating but quite secure. Log was very dry and no water in container and left in a dryer location. Noticed a better way to have come in once in there but my way worked find too. Covered in leaves and little green pond plant but was better than the mud later in the morning! Thanks for the cache Rurik farserkr.

25-Mar-17
Out with dty73 & Aquilus1 for an early morning paddle (7:00am). Dty73's first time in a kayak. We spent quite a bit of time laughing but she managed to stay dry. We squeezed into GZ & snagged our first find for the morning. Log signed we headed for the other side of the island. This was a neat hide. Kutgw

25-Mar-17
Three of us decided to go for a paddle today. Aquilus1, Youban and I left shore at just after day break at 7amish. We collected all four on the water around this by 8:15am.

This one was first. We paddled across and into the tree. We knew from previous photos and logs what we had to do and so we just did it. Coming in from all side the cache was found quickly, signed and off to the next one. Tftc!!!

09-Feb-17
Didn't look for long but it appears a huge willow tree has fallen into the water at the coordinates. Doubt we would have found the cache even if it was in a 44 gallon drum. Happy to be proven wrong by a more dedicated cacher.

Found out on the lake with genghicat. Damn there are a lot of little stalky plants but found nether the less

20-Dec-16
really do I have to go in there, maybe I can get it another way, damn no I cant, I will have to go in there....
easy find once in the general vicinity, the wind is starting to pick up and make my kayak trip a tad unpleasant but continue on I will. tftc Rurik farserkr

26-Nov-16
My first time out in a kayak from paddle hub with Lpud and I found the navigation quite tricky. Still despite this we managed to get to the cache via a branch full of spiders. Turn out there is such a thing as too much wildlife! TFTC

26-Nov-16
As Bonem hadn"t ever kayaked before, this was a bit of an adventure for her.
So, with a lovely Canberra Spring day we decided to go for a bike ride and hit the water for a few catches.
This cache proved quite challenging to navigate to the right area, as there were a lot fallen trees and branches to push past.
Bonem's keen eyes spotted the cache before i did and we made a bee line towards it.
We managed brush past a branch full of water spiders who invaded our boat.
Bonem had a mini melt down for a moment, then realised there were not going to do her any harm.
Bonem performed the cache retrieve and log duties.
Nicely constructed cache setup.
Gets a fav from me.

Time to test out the new kayak. Yep, did the job. First find on this cache for about 5 months, then whoa! 2 more finds on the same day. TFTC

Great cache.

My fourth of four kayak caches this afternoon. All relatively unexpected too to be honest. Started off walking from the previous, then approached by water for an easier find.

Now for the paddle back!

Cheers

Our last day in Canberra .
We wanted to take the kayak out onto Lake Burley Griffin, visit some markets & then som more local caching.
Hubby hadn't used his kayak this trip so what better time than to grab a couple of caches. This is such a pretty area & the water was like glass, so off he went. Your so right its good to have caches like this to find.
This cache was more difficult than the other one on the island because of the large weeping willow that you had to push through.
favourite point given
Thanks for placing this cache Rurik_farserkr

Having been tricked by not looking at the description first up we got into our kyacks and came at this from the proper way. My phone wouldn't give me a good reading so we looked around for a while eventually blueeapple came up with the shout of found it. From then it was just a meeter of getting it. My kyack had no chance but luckily blueeapple could get it and sign the logs for us.
TFTC . When I finally get around to becoming a premium member again I'll give this a favourite point.

Awesome cache, anytime you have to get on a boat makes it enjoyable☺ took off from black mountain peninsula and after a short paddle got to island. Nice hide. Found the other cache on this island a few months ago. TFTC.

Accompanied by caching buddy, The Split, and in our brand new two person canoe, we paddled across from the museum on a very warm public holiday Monday. We were surprised to find five other people on the island. We also saw some nesting Swans and gave them a wide berth.
We made our way across the island to the cache without any hassles and found the well hidden and mounted cache within a couple of minutes.
Thanks for the reason to go for a paddle Rurik farsekr!

Found whilst attending the Springbank Island event today with many others. Very easy to find from land....actually I think currently easier to get to it from land than by water. Well....after you come by water to get to the land that is.

Found during today's event. Got there before the crowd, so didn't take too long to sign.

Thanks

Found while attending the Springbank Island event. I waited for a bit of a gap in the grabs as I was keen to see the cache placement. Nice little hide in a beaut spot. Thanks for this one Smile

I was at the event so I had to get this guy while I was on the island
thank you Rurik FarserKr

Found during the island cache event.
I glad to see that this island is big enough for two caches. I wonder if I did a bit of re-positioning of mine if 3 could be located out here. Hmmm I wonder.
Nice little climb out to the gz. Which was well setup!
My young son enjoyed the location and went back multiple times to assist or hinder later finders.

Thanks for the fun find.

30-Aug-15
If you want to try and shuffle them around I am happy to move mine if need be. When I first placed it the spot was chosen as it was one of the only spots on dry (sorta) land.

30-Aug-15
Whilst out on the island for the Event, I headed over to this one with some other cachers to make the find. I volunteered to venture out to make the find and it didn't take too long to have log in hand. Log signed and a number of other cachers arrived who also wanted in the log. I got trapped out on the limb for a little while before this group of cachers moved back to the event so I bee lined it off the limb before the next lot arrived lol.

Thanks for the cool cache placement Rurik farserkr

30-Aug-15
Collected this one on a mass group event out to the island, was nice to be back! Nice and easy and the log basically ended up in our hands thanks to some nice cache helpers Smile . Added our name to the growing list.

30-Aug-15
Almost forgot to log this one! Found on an outing to Springbank Island as part of the event to secure the last couple of souvenirs. The boat ride out and back made it much easier than my last caching expedition to the island via kayak - plus there were plenty of on site retrievers that made the find even easier! TFTC.

30-Aug-15
The third find of the day. I had had my eye on this one for quite a while now but had never had the right equipment to collect this one. The event today provided the perfect opportunity to collect this one! Having had a bit of a chat with the other cachers on the island, it was nearing time for me to head off to meet my dad. I saw Fitzy had just grabbed this one so I headed over and loaded up the GPS.

He must have thought I was taking too long to get this one as he came over and gave me a helping hand. I made my way out to the cache and almost stepped on it before he pointed out the hide! Great set up! Log signed and cache replaced. I remember my last trip to this island, that was a fun day and one of my earlier caches (it might have been my first event!). TFTC Rurik_farserkr!

30-Aug-15
Found while attending an event on the Island while in the company of Rapidlywild.
I was one of the lucky ones and didn't have to go out and fetch it myself - handy Big Grin
Thanks for the fun Rurik farserkr

My second ever cache found. As I paddled over first I found Mt Springbank? Then I moved on to this one and found it no trouble. thank you Rurik_farserkr for a great cache!

'Found' this, as did so many others at the Springbank island event today. As it happens, you don't have to come at this one from the water! If you have already got to Springbank island by some means (swimming, boat, or B-Bishop helicopter Wink), then you can use a convenient fallen tree to walk 'over the water' and find the cache. I enjoyed logging this for many cachers that arrived at GZ 'at the same time' as I did.
A fun cache Rurik_farserkr! It deserves a favourite from me.[^][^][^]

30-Aug-15
Found with a group of other cachers as we arrived at the event. Some of the previous group to be signing it were still there when a group of us who had come off the boat together arrived so our names were all added before the cache was returned.

Thanks for the cache and another D/T combo ticked off.

Found with Pacmania during the event. Thanks

9830 + 1115 = 10945. Bonus find during the event out here today....

I wasn't sure when I'd get out this way again to find this cache - then along came the Spring Preview Event and all was good. Approached from the land side and soon had the cache in hand. Signed, returned and headed back to the event. One of many finds today !

Thanks Rurik farserkr !!

Found with I-CCCLXXX during GC5ZKCT_springbank-island-spring-preview

Came over by motorised boat (electric), not paddling.

One of those caches where you don't want to fumble too much.

Found with a cache of geocachers (I am trying to come up with a suitable collective noun for a lot of geocachers - cache might do the job - or too confusing?) after we were very nicely ferried to the island for the Springbank Preview event today. Beaut weather, great company, nice spot for a cache!

There was a line of geocachers ready to sign the log - Decrypter made himself at home and did the honours for a for of us. But we all did the balancing thing - some of us gingerly with wrecked knees and ankles!

Thanks Rurik farsekr for the fun cache - and another D/T hole filled!

F(H)ound it! While attending Springbank Island Spring Preview Event.
Funnily enough I was quite alone at GZ to start with, even though there are quite a lot of folk on Springback today. I came from the land side, trying not to disturb the local flora. Meanwhile the Ridgeo-pup had abandoned me to check out the Barbecue. Wonderful cache on a pretty island. TFTC Rurik_farserkr
