Sydney to Adelaide Roadtrip
Day Three : Cowra to Balranad.
An interesting day weather wise, with rain in Cowra, and very heavy rain around West Wyalong to the point I was worried that the highway may close. Balranald didn’t get any rain at all.
Glad I didn’t try to leave the bitumen for this one. A muddy trek up the hill to GZ. Some great views of the storms rolling through. Struggled a bit at GZ, but found the cache eventually. The coordinates were good, I just wasn’t looking hard enough. I got drenched on the walk back to the car.
Thanks for the adventure swift13.

Found on a trip around central New South Wales with e.gregory1. Our original plans were to travel through Bourke, Cunamulla and Toowoomba to attend the Dayboro event in Queensland and return via Port Macquarie and central NSW, but a series of events that included road closures due to flooding in southern inland Queensland, a covid outbreak in Brisbane and widespread storm damage and road closures along the north coast of NSW resulted in multiple changes of plans during the trip. As it eventuated our travels took us to central New South Wales, on a route from Broken Hill to Cobar, Nyngan, and Gunnedah from where we meandered southwards through some great scenery and historic towns that included Dunedoo, Wellington, Cowra and Yass. We then headed in a roughly westerly direction through to Temora, Wagga Wagga, Deniliquin and Swan Hill before making a final dash for home. All up we found a good mix of Traditionals, Puzzle Caches, Multicaches, Adventure Labs, Wherigos, Earthcaches, Letterbox Hybrids and Virtual Caches on a very entertaining and enjoyable trip. Thanks for the cache swift13!
Found on a trip around inland NSW with FeatherWaite.
Our original intention was to attend the Mega event at Dayboro in Queensland, travelling up via Broken Hill, Bourke, Cunamulla and Toowoomba, then home via the NSW coast to Port Macquarie then on to Adelaide via central NSW. However, the Covid outbreak in Brisbane forced us to reconsider, particularly given that the Mega and associated events were within the area of concern and we may have had difficulty re-entering NSW to get home and then would have had to quarantine back in SA for 14 days.
The floods in the north and east of NSW also hampered our travel plans. But we were able to develop a new plan that took us on a very pleasant tour around country NSW, picking up some interesting caches along the way.

An interesting spot. Drove to near the top (but not too far!), then walked around to GZ. Checked a couple of spots before finding the cache.
Thanks,
Thanks,
Found Thursday the 6th of August 2020 at 1:10pm. Well hidden. Rehid in same spot.
Quite a scramble up here but sadly no find. Without a hint there were too many possibilities. Either that or this cache has been muggles. It's been a long time since last found.
With a possible FTF up for grabs over in Grenfell and a day off from work, I decided on going for the drive over while collecting a few other caches along the way. I started the day with collecting a Trig-Point behind the Grenfell quarry. Next one on the list was the possible FTF and then into the Weddin Mountains to find another TP and avenge a DNF. After my fantastic hike, I headed out and found the lone caches, I hadn’t found yet, between Grenfell and Young. TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all CO’s for creating the caches I found and for letting me enjoy the hunt to find them! TFTC’s

last one for today. its nearly beer time after all. I drove to within 100 m of the cache before deciding to walk. of course there was the inevitable empty beer bottle to collect along the way. cache easily found at gz and all is well within it. I wonder what they quarry here? road base? tftc
Toriaz and I had been spending the weekend in Cowra with Canary, but we came a bit further west on our own to clear up an old DNF on the Harry Potter series, then decided to head just a little bit further to look for this cache. We were glad we did.
We initially overshot the track we needed and had to turn around in a safe place further down the road. When we got back to the track we decided to leave the car at the beginning of the track and follow the GPS up the hill. We made our way past the quarry and soon made an easy find of this cache. While the quarry, itself, is not quite photogenic the surrounding vistas were typical of this region. Thanks for taking us up there.

This one turned out to be one of my favourite caches for the weekend. It reminded me of an old-school cache - just one, fair-sized cache placed in an out of the way spot with some great views.
We parked near the road and walked up. Probably could have driven closer, but it was good to stretch our legs, and it was only about 300m. Scrambled up to the right spot and made a quick find.
Thanks

Found at 11:33 AM GAFF1.
A bit of a scramble getting up the loose rocks and then at the top it took a few minutes to locate the cache as there were so many interesting possibilities.
Thanks swift13.

Scared of a group of large kangaroos as I arrived. Quick find on my trip home from Grenfell. Tftc
10871. Found with AngelG27 and specimenX ("SAFi" in most of the logs) on a day run up Cowra way.
With the bad weather down the coast postponing a planned run that way, a quick rethink had us planning this run instead. A early start had the three of us hit the Highway before 7.30 and not too long after we started our caching spree. Awesome run, with quite a few of the "History of..." puzzles solved and (all but one) collected, as well as 5 First To Finds making a great caching day with my new invasion buddies.
This was the next find for the day, and after a fun drive up the dirt road we got pretty close, so we then hoofed it the last 80m for a quick find. Cache retrieved, signed, returned, and it was off to the next one.
Thanks again swift13 ! Two nice caches here !

Plans were set in place with fitzy_1965 and AngelG27 for an "invasion" of several country towns between Yass and Cowra. We managed to dodge the worst of the drizzly weather to collect a decent swag of caches on what was a fun day with great company! We signed with the acronym SAFi ("i" for invasion ).
The 2wd made it up the track and fairly close to the cache. So after a short scramble over the quarry, AngelG27 spotted the cache for the signing.
Thanks for the hide, swift13

Fitzy_1965, SpecimenX and I headed out on a geocaching mission to collect a few numbers for Fitzy_1965 as he has a mission to find 2000 caches this year. This mission was from Canberra to Borowa, onto Cowra, Young, Grenfell and back home. We travelled well over 700kms over 13.5 hours! I found 54 caches in total, my best ever daily total, and surprisingly 5 FTFs! Fitzy obligingly did all the driving and SpecimenX and I made most of the finds, although SpecimenX had her caching glasses on today and was quick to spot most of them. We had solved a few puzzles before leaving so we were well armed to collect both trads and puzzles. The rain/drizzle/mizzle did not slow us down and we had a great day of caching and laughs.
12th cache of the day at 1200 and a quick find by myself this time. the 2-wheel drive made it to within 80m and we scambled the remainder. Pretty rough going, but not at all muddy, which was good given how much rain we have had recently. Thanks swift13. now onto HP series!
Day 10 and the final of our Road Trip.
Second of nine for today.
A slippery climb for an easy find. Then back for the pen. Then up again. And down again!!! Good for my steps!?!

The 'T' junction which I found close to GZ, turned out to be a crossroads
If you can count the rough dirt track leading into the quarry as a road
I parked the geomobile just inside the area and set off on foot for a fun stroll
The quarry has not been used for a while, and I pondered a moment as to what it was they were quarrying here.
Probably just gravels for roadbase, so nothing interesting !!
The cache was interesting
And after a stumble across the loose rocks,
I found the cache

Our only free day for quite some time so we decided to head out on a geomission around the area. We have had a couple of mini tours lately, but today we went all out to Cowra and Grenfell to see how many we could find. Rapidlywild came along for the drive to fill her gaps where she has previously posted DNF's. The weather was lovely and the drive was picturesque, thank you to all the cache owners for bringing us to this lovely part of Australia.
You would not know this quarry was here....clambered over the rocks to GZ and made a quick find.

Plans were made with Tanso for a day trip round Cowra and Grenfell. We started the day off with the WWFM event and then it was on the road for us
Very enjoyable day out in the smaller towns. Undortunately we did have a number of DNF's however these things happen and it just gives us more reasons to return We arrived in Cowra about 2pm and I got back to Canberra just on 2am. Was a range of finds and some very good ones too ! We finished the trip driving through Young when we spotted a "bomfire" which turned out to be a vehicle on fire. We pulled up and called 000 immediately to get the firies out. Always fun and games on road trips [:p]
Went for a bit of 4wd'ing in the 2wd lol. Went for a wander in the old quarry and soon had cache in hand.
Thanks swift13 for placing these caches, lovely area especially on a day like today.

On my last trip north there was not enough time to stop at Cowra, so I decided on a day trip. When I listed all the caches between Young and Cowra I had quite a list I could try to do. So off I went.
Thanks.

3981 Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 0935. Well time to head back to The Rock and being Australia Day we thought it would be good to do a little more exploring. Drove several of the tracks up to the highest point. A great way to start the day with a find that the co-ords were spot on for us and a nicely placed container. SL Tnx swift13
Found on a huge day trip with Sol de Lune. Luckily, our car was able to drive over this rickety road, so we were able to park within 100m of the cache. Such an awesome quarry to walk around. Once at GZ, it was a very quick find. TNLNSL. TFTC swift13!
Out on a day trip with Toy Hunters.....and actually managed to get my 2WD to within 70 metres of GZ. Bit close to the edge where I stopped, but all was good. Cache found without issue.
Thanks for another one swift13.

Easy find, got halfway to it and batteries died, so back to the car for a new set and then back again for an easy find.
