Can no longer be maintained and WP1 is missing

Our first multi cache find! So much fun

28-Oct-20
Came up on bicycles via Joys Shop when it was still sunny. Walked past the solar farm and down to Middle Beach, past the view. Great view from here!

Arriving at WP1, and it is no longer there! There has been a huge land slide (Picture attached) and it is exactly on the WP1 coordinates so it won’t be found again. Will require maintenance.

Enjoyed the beach anyways and headed up to the Valley of the Shadows, walked down to see all the birds and get WP3, before finally heading to The Clear Place and enjoying the view in light rain. Managed to grab WP2 as well.

Headed back without getting too wet, but will have to return someday once WP1 is replaced.

Thanks for the cache!

WP1 no longer findable due to landslide that has covered it.

I always love this spot, something magical about the clear place and the valley of shadows. The walking track to middle beach is still closed after the cyclone and the tides haven’t been in my favour to take the northern route in. Had a poke around a few trees, but without the last clue, there are a few too many to choose from. Thanks, I’ll have another hunt when I’m back on the island

The walk today took us to Jim's Point and then along Anderson Road heading for Middle Beach.
I thought great, I could collect the info from the Waypoints for this cache.

NOooo!!!
After the cyclone last weekend both tracks to Middle Beach are closed!
So we changed our plans and continued our walk on to The Clear Place. I thought I would collect the info at that Waypoint just in case Middle Beach opens up later in the week while we are here.
Next task was to persuade the group to walk to the Waypoint past the Valley of the Shadows. Success, off we went. At the seat they all thought that was it so turned back, but I continued on - Wow, great view!
Worth the extra walk!
I collected the required information and headed back hoping to catch the group - no chance, they were marching on with lunch calling. I walked on quite some way thinking about the cache, and reading the info then something rang a bell in the caching brain so I turned back and headed to where I thought the cache might be, thinking/hoping it was worth the extra walk, about 600m.

It certainly was worth it, CIH. Smile

TFTC and the great views.

Towards the end of another great day out hiking and geocaching on this beautiful island we decided to undertake this very enjoyable Multi-cache. We loved the three locations, the walk through the forest between the waypoints, the great birding where we also had the added bonus of some wonderful sightings of a couple of Black-winged Petrels soaring back and forth above our heads at both The Clear Place and Valley of Shadows waypoints. With the numbers required gathered we then updated our GPS with the corrected co-ordinates before walking on towards Ground Zero where the cache was then quickly located. We signed the log book and then replaced as found. Thanks so much for the cache and for the very enjoyable trail it led us on. Greetings from Zimbabwe

What a tree! Beautiful finish to a peaceful walk along the wilder ocean side Saw lovely birds from the Clear Place, including Masked Boobies, Common and Black Noddies and red-tailed Tropic Birds. Also saw Ball’s Pyramid. TFTC!

#15113. It has been 5 years since Robmc and I have been here and it is so great to be back on the Island. A few more caches have been published since then so we have a bit of leg-work to do, to gather information all over the island before we can go hunting for GZ's.

This was the first one we tackled and we parked the bicycles and wandered in along the trails. Familiar territory as we have walked the walk here previousy. We gathered the required information and made our way to GZ. The GPSr was wandering somewhat so we had to do a bit of fossicking before I discovered the hiding place. The log book is very slightly damp but all is good here otherwise.

Thanks Elev8!on [mrnoo17]

Back to Lord Howe Island with BettyBoo3747, it has been quite a while since our last visit.
Armed with deadly treadlies (but not the usual ones!) we have been exploring the island and slowly working through the caches here.

We have walked out along this trail before and it is a lovely walk.
As others have mentioned WP1 has moved closer to the stairs (fyi the new location is Middle Beach
S 31° 31.651 E 159° 04.540). The tide was out so it was a nice walk along the beach.
The Clear Spot had great views both out to the island just offshore, to the cave along the coast, and all the was to Balls in the distance.
The Valley of Shadows wasn't so dark, but we could smell the walk's end before we got there - lots of nesting birds here today!
We spent a bit of time on the seat watching their antics.
Calculations down and it was a short walk to GZ and a quick find.
Thanks, Robmc.

Great little walk, as others said the sign was moved closer to the stairs. Super beautiful multi. Highly recommended

01-Oct-18
Another great multicache! Like previous cachers, WP1 had us a little confused as there was no sign at the coordinates. But we took it that the sign must have been moved to near the stairs.

After that, things were quite straight forward and after a great walk the cache was easily found.

Another great walk on LHI. WP1 clue had moved but that aside very straight forward. Tftc

Found by Facitman at 13:55
My lack of caching preparation was on show with this cache as Mrs Facit and I enjoyed a lovely morning walk to The Clear Place and Valley of the Shadows but skipped the walk down to Middle Beach so no final co-ordinates for this cache. A couple of days later I decided to have an after lunch walk/run so made my way to Middle Beach for the final piece of the puzzle and a nice quick cache find. Took the opportunity to revisit the other way points and an extended investigation of the cliffs, rocks and beach. Such a beautiful part of the world.
Thanks mrnoo17 for my third Lord Howe find.

It started to poor down as we made our way to WP1 which put a bit of a dampener on a great cache. All way points were found quite easily and the hissing place of the final cache was suitably impressive. We even got to see balls pyramid in the rain! Great fun. Thanks so much.

For the wind was blowing a cool, harsh SW breeze today....Any human in his right mind would be at home reading a book....But not I.....For I was out geocaching.

Hearing the rain on the kenta palm leaves almost made getting saturated worth it....And clear place was anything but clear....BUT...it was worth every second.

A very pleasant walk with some great views. Our etrex was 80m out at WP1. The sign was in a concrete bucket, so we guess it had been moved. Anyway, the checksum worked and we soon had CIH. TFTC and the great walk.

#4 After going to the first way point and realising that the sign hadn't been replaced i was a little worried. But seeing there were two more signs the same on this beach i assumed the missing one was the same. So off to the second way point. What a nice little spot to sit. But not for ling as the rain started. So off to way point three. After gathering the last bit of info and checking the check sum i was 1 out. Bugger. So find some cover out of the rain to check where i had gone wrong. Ahhhh found it. That looks better. So i put co ordinates into my GPS and i was almost on top of it. Very quickly i had the cache in hand and a big smile on my face. This is number 4 of the islands caches. Thankyou for bringing me to this pretty little spot.

What marvellous waypoint locations. Having set off late in the afternoon we had no time to search for the cache before nightfall. But we didn't mind revisiting this beaut palm and banyan forest at all. LHI is such a gift! Tftc

I'll admit this one was rather easy to find using my geo-senses. The sign at the first waypoint is missing so I couldn't glean any info from there, and as it was stated being somewhat between two waypoints I looked in an obvious spot on my way to the second waypoint, and there it was. In the end I ended up going to the final two waypoints where I had a great view of Ball's Pyramid from Clear Place. My favourite part is the giant banyan tree at the start of the trail! TFTC and the views! 8 of 11 caches now found on Lord Howe!

TFTC! Last cache before we depart Lord Howe. Love the banyan trees and palms .

Day two on Lord Howe Island and it was out for an early morning bike ride before breakfast. Leaving the wobbly stead at the end of the road, I made my way through the waypoints, including the first of many climbs up and down that were to feature so much in my coming days on the island. After passing through clarity and shadow, I had a set of coordinates that looked promising and soon had cache in hand for my 499th find. What a fantastic hiding place!

These are the caches I really enjoy - an invigorating walk, great scenery along the way, well thought out waypoints and a GZ that makes it all worthwhile.

Many thanks for the hide and a favourite point is awarded.

Enjoying our second trip to LHI. This was our first little walk on a beautiful day. Enjoyed the beach, rainforest and views. TFTC

Really enjoyed this walk and the views. Thanks for bringing us along this track.

On Lord Howe for a week of walking, cycling and caching. Male membsec is returning after almost 50 years but first visit for Lady membsec. Great island with great views. Enjoyed the walk and the views. Cache well thought out and found in a location that made sense in the locale.
TFTC and a favourite

Had more trouble with this than we should have because I did not read the description particularly well or read as far as the additional waypoint locations so worked with vaguely read written directions and enough local knowledge to get us started. Eventually we worked out the co-ordinates despite our challenge and after a bit of a search had the cache in hand. A lovely walk in a lovely location. TFTC Mrnoo.

Did this on a rainy old morning. It was still a lovely walk and I could see the pyramid from the Clear Place so that was cool. Thanks.

Wow. Our first cache on the island was a FTF! A long walk with small kids of ours and our local friends megandrew. Must bring more chocolate next time.

We couldn't make it to the first waypoint due to a high tide but managed to deduce the cache location thanks to the check number.

We have another week here so will work hard to find some more. Might even plant one or two.

This multi goes through some of the most beautiful shady and interesting places on the island.
We tried to get the full experience out of the waypoints. At WP1 we jumped in with the snorkelled around Middle Beach until a little reef shark came in to say hello, at which we slowly exited the water.
The Clear Place lived up to its name today as Balls Pyramid could easily be seen in the distance. I must admit sadly I didn't do the rock jump nearby but some protective parents wouldn't allow it. Through the valley of the shadows all the banyan trees (turn make shift swings) are fun to play on to embrace your inner Tarzan.
The coordinates we very accurate which came as a surprise considering the tree cover, but I guess you used my GPS so that must be why it was so good Razz
Thanks for another great cache mrnoo17
