Visiting from the state of Washington in the US. Originally flew into Wellington. Found GC46 and then took the ferry across to Picton. We enjoyed a day trip around the Sound there. Then drove to Nelson including a stop in Havelock for some green shelled mussels. Very yummy. We had a nice stay in Nelson which included a geocaching event there. We had the opportunity to meet several local cachers. We are now staying in Patons Rock. Today was our day to go to Farewell Spit and Wharariki Beach. Along the way we stopped and found these two caches. Thanks.

Some time ago a group of us from Wellington decided that what we should do is come down to the Nelson region for a long weekend of Geocaching. So we did. We had such a good time that just a few months later we decided to do it again. The same team to the same location, with the same agenda. The only real goal for this four day break is exploring, having fun, and finding more of the unfound geocaches in the area.

Day one of this trip took us all the way out to Cape Farewell and then back to Tākaka. We stopped at many caches along the way, and this was one of them.

Most of our find here we signed the log with the collective name of N.M.T.Y to represent the four of us: NZ_B, Mr-Mcgoo, TwigNZ, and YetiNZ.

---
Thanks to BigglesNZ for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.

(# 8115) Day 1 of a caching trip to the Nelson/Golden Bay area for a repeat trip for the four amigos. Tripping with NZ_B, TwigNZ and YetiNZ. A day full of hilarity with nobody being spared being the butt of the jokes. Signed the log with NMTY.

Thanks BigglesNZ for bringing me here.

07-Sep-23
When I get home I will need to search for Mary’s history -graves like this interest me.

Day 1 of “The Wellingtonians are back” tour with TwigNZ, YetiNZ, Mr-Mcgoo. After the last trip, with more caches for us to find, we decided we had to return. And, of course, there will be days of laughter, usually at my expense

During our time here, all found caches were signed as NMTY (regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 4 of us hadn't found it previously), or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.

Kia ora rawa atu for the cache BigglesNZ.

Day 19 of three weeks winter motorhoming in the upper half of the South Island. Moved on from Pakawau in Golden Bay today via Collingwood (Adventure Lab time) to Takaka and on to Port Tarakohe for the night. Picked up a number of caches along the way despite quite a bit of rain at times.

This was our first one for the day and my northernmost in the South Island for the meantime. A quick find. Yes, life was harsh in those days! #4207. TFTC.

10-Jul-21
Thank you for making us stop and notice! TFTC!!

24-Jan-21
We are holidaying in Nelson at present, mainly to spend time with some of Mr G’s family but hoping to fit in some geocaching when the opportunity arises.
Yesterday six of us headed north west to stay at Pakawau Beach before joining a Farewell Spit tour today. There were many caches along the route from Nelson but we focused on a few that were special such as EarthCaches or Virtuals with particular walks and views incorporated.
After a fantastic and most interesting trip up to Farewell Spit and back today we ended up in Collingwood for an early dinner and decided on a few local caches before we left.
This was our final cache for the day and a little further up the road than our Airbnb. It seemed important to remember poor Mary and her little ones, so we made sure to visit. The cache was quickly located and signed. TFTC
Then we spent a few minutes reading the headstone and wondering what had actually happened to Mary and her two infants, and why they lie here together but remote from anyone else. RIP.

#8517. I am over in the Takaka region on a work trip. After spending a couple of nights in the back country it was time to return to civilisation. We were driving back to Takaka and I asked my work colleagues to stop here so I could find this cache. Interesting lonely gravesite near the road. The cache was found in the first place checked. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks BigglesNZ for hiding it here.

03-Oct-20
I pulled on up at this one, flicked on the hazard lights, RG popped out to retrieve and within a minute we were on our way. Thankfully no traffic either way, but we were well visible down this straight if not completely off the road. TFTC Biggles.

RG1972 are in Collingwood for the weekend, and today is her birthday. So we head out to Wharariki Beach for a bit of a walk, check in at Cape Farewell on the way back and end up at the start of Farewell Spit. Caching kept to a minimum today, but got some on the way in and out. A good day, thanks all COs.

13-Aug-20
Day 6 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)

Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.

Today was going to be a very long drive, going from Westport all the way up to Farewell Spit which is somewhere I have longed to visit for a very long time. I've been close, but never quite made it all the way up there before. The great weather of the last few days continued to follow me around the island too, which always helps set a good mood for a road trip.

It was a truly stunning late winter's day, allowing me to spend most of the day in just a t-shirt. But by now it was getting late in the day and I was trying to work out where I would be spending the night etc. But there was still time to try to grab a late cache or two.

With no-one around, this was a quick and easy find. I encountered no issues with the cache or logsheet so with the log signed everything was replaced back exactly as found.

Thanks for placing this cache.

Day 7 of our wonderful New Zealand trip!
Today Oztriaco and I made our way from Collingwood to Farewell Spit. The weather was not really good. However we still got some nice views. On the way back we stopped here to visit this cache. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Austria.

*Day 7 of our amazing trip*

Despite the less than pleasant weather (in terms of rain, wind and visibility) blumen-wiese and I made our way from Collingwood up towards Farewell Spit, or Wharariki Beach to be precise, mainly to replicate the screen background image that most Windows 10 users know. And a good thing we did it, because the unfavourable outside conditions notwithstanding, we still were treated with some amazing views.
On our way back southwards we made a quick stop to find out which Mary we were supposed to remember here, but to my shame I have to admit that I have already forgotten who she was. At least we found the cache easily and could tick off this particular item from our daily to-do list.

Thanks for the cache and greetings from Austria

29-Jan-18
We had camped overnight at Anatori and were on the way home again but made the slight detour to find this cache. A quick find.
Thank you BigglesNZ.

29-Jan-18
We left the dusty roads from Anatori behind and are caching our way back to Collingwood. It was only a short detour and we parked off the road best we could. Enough to be three abreast for a moment when a car overtook a campervan right next to us. Pretty scary stuff. Cache was soon found and formalities taken care of. Thank you BigglesNZ

24-Jan-18

04-Oct-16
We really needed my wee cachelet to have a sleep this afternoon as he was really tired. We headed off on a wee ride after dropping of the rest of the family. We headed West and kept on driving until we ran out of road after hitting Farewell Spit and the wee man woke up we grabbed a few caches on the way back to Pattons Rock. Parked up across the road and made a quick find.

Thanks for the cache BigglesNZ.

22-Jun-16
I've passed this lonely grave many times, it was time to stop and pay my respects. I think there might be some family connection here. I must do some research. TFTC Smile.

22-Jun-16
I was feeling quite sorry for Mary - first about the children and then to be stuck way out here in a lonesome grave. Couldn't help to wonder where her husband was. But then Sidewaze pointed out the amazing view and I thought actually it was probably a place she loved so felt a lot better about it. Last cache of the day for me. TFTC #8639

Have driven past Mary on many occasions and never realised she was here. Thanks for the snippet of local history. Tftc

An intriguing piece of history which wets the appetite to know more.

11-Mar-16
We spent 4 incredibly wonderful weeks in New Zealand for vacation and
had a lot of fun to discover all the marvels of this country.
Day 20 - on a cloudy and windy day we went to the Pupu Springs, a group of large and crystal clear springs, sacred to the Maori people before going to Farewell Spit.
At this narrow sand spit we had a pleasant walk over hills to the beach - miles of sand as far the eye can see!
We finished off with a coffee and a delicious muffin at the café.
Besides we still found time for geocaching and picked up quite a few caches on our way.
This was one of them!

TFTC,
Stadibast

11-Mar-16
From 19th February to 20th March Stadibast and I visited New Zealand. Half of the time we made a trip around the North-Island. After a short stay in Auckland we went to: Bay of Islands, Cape Reinga, Rotorua and the Wai-o-Tapu-Thermal Wonderland, the great Taupo-lake… We made a Rafting Tour in the Waitomo-Glowworm-caves or hiked the Tongariro–Alpine-Crossing and, and…
In the second part of our holidays we visited the south island, hiked in the Abel-Tasman-Reserve , went to the Marlborough-Sounds, the Golden Bay, the Oparara-Arch, the Franz-Josef- and Fox-Glaciers, had a great sight on Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman, relaxed at the Wanaka- and Hawea-Lakes,….
New Zealand is a very amazing country and with exceptional natural sites. We are very impressed of these great nature monuments and sights and we are happy that we met so much friendly and helpful people.
On the way to Farewell-Spit we passed this place. Easy find.
Greetings from Germany.

Just home after our Golden Bay camping trip from the Marlborough Sounds. It was not a caching expedition but we did manage one or two Big Grin. We were travelling with our camping group who, although not cachers, joined in the fun. Our travels brought us to your cache – many thanks, BigglesNZ, for bringing us to this spot. We’ve had great fun all the way.

On holiday at Motueka and having a ball.
Very nice area.

Quick find on a blustery afternoon, had been passed this spot numerous times but never noticed the grave. Another find due to Geocaching. TFTC

13-Nov-15
#10266. We were heading north, and decided parking looked better on the right hand side of the road (though we didn't want to pull off too far in case the edge of the low bank next to the sea wasn't very stable). The road was quiet and the cache was a quick find. Interesting spot. TFTC.

13-Nov-15
As warned, parking was not great, but the cache was an instant find and there wasn't much traffic while we were signing the logbook, so I think we were parked safely enough.
A lovely location to remember Mary. I wonder if she loved the sea as she has now a great view of it. And looking at the erosion of the shoreline here, I wonder how long before Mary is in the sea? TFTC.
