Too cold at Mt Buller to explore there so we dropped down to here for a picnic lunch and a short walk. At least when the sun came out it was warmish.Walked part of this track dk decided to get at least one cache in this series. Looked at the wrong tree on the wrong side of the river on the way up. On the way back I found the right tree (with a faint geotrail) and the cache was quickly located.TFTC BernieH

Went to the big tree and had a thorough search and did not find full stop went back to where the co ords and smaller tree is full of blackberries and cannot get to it. Love to have clue

Found it on our return. It helps if you look at the right tree. Log book very wet. Hard to recognise the.clue. it was a wonderful walk beside tge river. Thanks, Bernie for the journey

Visited it during 28-days geotrip to Australia, N.Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Am.Samoa, Fr.Polynesia with Marci, Ch. Sometimes we logged as "MT" or "Jonea" or "MTCh". Thanks for showing nice caches and places. MT-Jonea from Brno city in Czechia EU.

Bit of a change of plan from original task of the day. Parked up tiroll and headed down the track to this on the MTB. Loved this ride... great scenery and good fun heading down. Passed a few horse riders and a trail runner. Took a bit over an hour to get all the way down. Found 4, missed 1 and DNF'ed another. 1 snake, 1 trail runner and about a dozen horses.Sadly there were too many "big trees" and the cache couldn't be found.

Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".

So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.

**Thanks to BernieH for this adventure, looking forward to many more.**

A days walk with Bogonghazy. Beautiful spot. Thanks for placing the geocache

New bridge here made of big trees. Maybe GC is now a bridge. S&P

The GPS was jumping around a bit here but GeoDad soon made the find. Great spot, I was hoping to find a few more caches along the trail but we didn't make it that far. TFTC.

Wet morning walk up here the other day. Didn't get too far decided to turn around as the rain decided to get heavier. Logged by the Kettles for us. TFTC

01-Jan-21
We had ridden past this series of caches a few day earlier, on the day we arrived in the area, but it was too much fun to fly down the trail, so no stops were mad in order to find caches!
Today, however, was a quieter day, with on of the Kettles recovering from a serious bike crash the day before and some heavy rain earlier in the day. Once the rain had cleared, we walked up to the bottom 3 caches in the series and enjoyed having time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings (which you don't get to do when you are flying down on a bike!)
This was a fairly easy find, with the help of the clue.

Inspired by a local runners effort up at Mt Buller on Saturday I asked my wife if I could go for a big hike this weekend. With all the smoke and fires this month I haven’t been able to get out on the trails at all like I’d planned to. So with my supportive wife’s blessing I got myself organised to get out for Australia Day 2020.
I arrived at Mirimbah by 8:30am and got straight onto the Klingsporn trail.
I headed up Klingsporn then through the resort to Mt Buller Summit, then back through the village to the Cornhill Road before finding my way down the Daletite trail. 31.76km all up and 19 smileys, 2 snakes and 0 DNFs or blisters!! Finished up back in the car by 4:30pm. A solid day on my feet!!

A nice quick find before sitting down to arrange the clues! The end is in sight!

This one had us beat.......until next time anyway!

Finally got to have a couple of days off so I headed up to Molesworth for a few days of R&R and caching.
After attending the dawn service at Boonie Doon I headed up to Mt Buller and was picking up caches as I go.
After finishing my day on the mountain I called in and parked at the Mirimbah picnic area and walked up to this one.
I was passed by a family of mountain bikers who were on their way back down.
Loved the water crossing bridges made out of logs.
I searched what I thought was everywhere but could not come up with the cache.
I hope it was just being tired after a big day out caching, so I will be back one day.
Thanks BernieH TFTC.

Well we had to walk away from this one with a DNF in January 2018 and we were in a lot of trouble when we finally made it back to the geoCruiser and the rest of the family!
Today it was just us, so we tried again to find just this one in the series from the bottom of the mountain bike course. We were walking, so we had to keep an eye out for those speeding cyclists, cross three water obstacles, and say hello to some would-be fishermen, who joined us on the path. We very nearly gave up again because our GPSrs would not settle. Like the previous finders we resorted to the hint and gave up on our GPS and just used our geo sense - yay - our last resort location proved a winner! SL at 4pm TNLN Collected the clue and returned joyfully to the geoCruiser. #5914 TFTC BernieH - we will be back for the rest of the Series.

Away for the grand final long weekend. Needed a quick find close by. GPS was all over the place but followed the hint and finally found it. TFTC

Great walk! Even in the frost with two geokiddies GPS was playing up. We looked in various places for a fare while but eventually gave up not sure if the plentiful groundcover affected visibility, or if we are just out of practice

Found during the 2018 Buller event weekend, which felt like a Mega with some great company, much socializing, a variety of caches and a few solid hikes at this excellent location.

Started off the 'mega' weekend hiking down from Mt Buller to Mirimbah along the Delatite River with McLookers. This trail was my main caching target for the weekend. I had originally intended cycling down, but in hindsight McLookers' idea of walking down was a better option - a department store hybrid bike would not have fared very well in this terrain... We're not phased by distance anyway, and the pace was bound to be good - over 15km covered in about 3 hours of walking. (We had an additional 45-minute 'break' searching for the elusive #4 Smile...)

Finally at the bottom and the cache was quickly spotted.

2pm, McLookers at a GZ : "Mmm, these blackberries are delicious. I hope they haven't been sprayed."
5pm, sign at Mirimbah : "Caution. Blackberries in this area have been sprayed."
Fortunately no signs of foaming at the mouth Big Grin.

Thanks for the cache, BernieH. It was a most worthwhile hike following the series.
And now we have enough data to calculate the final.

Our last in this series for today. Together with ThePacman we walked the trail. The river was just stunning and the weather conditions were perfect. We did find our GPS's jumped a lot but the hints certainly helped. Thanks BernieH for highlighting this picturesque area.

After being to the Alexandra Event we spend two more nights around here.
Today we had a great walk from mirimbah up the devil's track to mt buller and back the klingsporn trail. It took us 9h for the 29km. We saw a total of 3 snakes.

All caches are in perfect conditions and geowife and I found them all within minutes.

Thanks

Day 2 of the mega-event, and today I spent a little time at the event-area in the morning, before I hiked in the Mt Buller-area. It was absolutely beautiful up there, and I even got to see snow, not what I expected when coming to Australia. I decided to try doing the West Ridge-track because of all the nice d/t-combinations. When I was done with that, I still had some time before it got dark, so I decided to also walk devils riverrun. I parked near the bonus-cache and started with number 6. I really wanted the d/t-combo of number 3, so I hoped I had time to get up there. Unfortunately I didn't get that far, I had to turn around at number 4, which I didn't even find...

About this cache:
The terrain here really freaked me out, seems like a good place for snakes. Instead of going into the bush where the coordinates wanted me, I started reading previous logs. Maybe not so smart to read them, as I realized people had seen lots of snakes on the trail.... at least I got a hint on where to find the cache. I was terrified walking up to the tree, but found a stick that I could use to check the terrain for snakes before I set my foot down. Could eventually locate the cache, way off the coordinates, but the hint is good.
Tftc, greetings from Norway

So many trees, only one cache. Is it the big tree or the big big tree or maybe the big big big tree. Haha we found it, cheers!!!

Wow, what a day. What first began as an 8km walk today turned into a 21km expedition. I tackled this Run by walking down from the Bulla Getaway event with Jentrek1 and au'fait in a leisurely fashion. not realising it would take a 9km trip to No1. Worth the walk BernieH, thanks for tempting us with this half marathon.
Yay finally after close to 8 hrs on shanks pony, 2 snakes, consumption of many blackberries and laughs galore we finally signed off. cheers BernieH

By this stage I was definitely dreaming about putting my feet up and pouring a cup of tea. Not yet. The technology was back on track here so thankfully a quick find. The next bit of excitement was a red bellied black snake just near the path which we watched with great interest as it slithered very carefully while stalking and catching its meal. Beautiful creature. Pir next hurdle was we had no phone coverage to sort the clues into the checker for the final of the series nothing for it but to continue to civilisation at the great metropolis of Mirimbah. Here when the telco deigned to give us service all became clear so we set off hopefully to claim the last prize. A fantastic and rewarding series

Had a fantastic weekend away with Bongonhazy and the geodogs. Stopped to grab a few new caches around the area while we were there. Couldn't believe how much water was around compared to Dec last year. Another beautiful part of a gorgeous part of our country. Took the trek for part of the way as BH had found these a week earlier. The walk through the forest was lovely and was a great way to spend the day. Luckily BH found this one previously so he was able to point me in the right direction. Once I was on the right track, I located the cache quickly. Many thanks for sending us out here.

A nice overcast but dry Friday had me take up this challenge to see how far I'd get in an afternoon.
Started at the Resort entry gates, and with the Delatite roaring, we crossed the first of many log bridges.
After stumbling around on both sides of the river here trying to get close to the coords, and reading the logs, I had to pass on this one on the way up.
Some logs said they'd crossed the river to find it and others said it was on the side they started. The only problem was that I had no idea which direction they'd come from. Smile
On my return back down, the clue made much more sense, and the nicely dry container was quickly found. These beautiful trees certainly can play havoc with a GPS.
Thanks for this great series Bernie, adding a fave to the lot. These are the caching days you never forget.

Found @09:56 #5673
With the wife off skiing I decided it would be better to tackle this series of caches which I have been keen to do for quite sometime, earlier in the year I considered riding down from the top but realized that the bike was probably not up to the task so with a last minute decision I decided to tackle the Denalii series instead that day.....

Arrived at the car park and was at the start of the track by 9:20 and commence the hike which I found was rather easier then I had expected, there is no significant gradient in the section I did today, just the odd hump or too and several trees to climb over and rivers to wade thru and bridges to build....

After arriving at GZ I realized after about 20mins I was on the wrong side and then tried the other to soon spot a geo trail sort of which seem possible and yep there it was. Ahh a good start and with high hopes I continue onward with clear conditions and the sound a roaring river I walked over the cool log bridge and onward to No 5. Clue Noted

Twas lovely of the three joggers to let us past, only to pass us further along while we stopped for the cache. Wonder what they were thinking.
Now to find somewhere to sit and solve. Cool

Our group that consisted of Cacheafish26, OzHockyChick, Team Smokey-Bear, and myself set off on an awesome adventure bike ride from Apira Lodge and along the Delatite River trail to Mirimbah.
On to the last one before the final, this is certainly a great section of the trail, we stopped after a crossing and realised the cache was only about 10 metres away even though my GPSr was having even bigger issues, by this stage it was only out by 220 metres, the phones won this battle, anyway a little trail was spotted which I followed, shortly after the cache was found.

**Thanks to BernieH for placing this cache.**

The 'final' one in the series and by now I really wasn't interested in anything other than finishing the ride. As a result I went straight to the hint only to realise there were LOTS of those in the vicinity. Finally spotted a bit of pink ribbon and a possible geoTrail that lead me to the find.

Now it's time to finish the ride and hope I have enough information to do the true final.

Well the bananas have finally found it.
The effort of being attacked by an uncompromising prickle bush while getting closer to the tree at the river bank was fresh in my nightmares.
But today it was time to get back on the horse and clear the memories.
But
As found out previously, do not rely on technology to find this piece of treasure.
Yeah
Onwards and upwards.

After a final cleanup and preparation of the lodge for the next visitors, Pam and I left for home.
At the base of the mountain, we stopped at Mirimbah and parked in the beautiful park there, with the intention of walking up the trail to attempt a couple of the BernieH Devils River Run caches.
Boy, were we glad we did, it was a beautiful walk.
At GZ the tall trees seems to create a bit of havoc until Pam eventually spotted a geotrail.
We found the cache with the GPS showing 20m and we were surprised by the lack of signatures in the log.
I can see that this one might be a bit tricky.
It was in excellent condition.

Thanks for placing this cache BernieH

Before we startet our trip to Australia I looked if ther are some unfounded caches in the area where we olanned to go. This caches I have on my list and had not much hope that these will hold for a long time.

Today I did together with arbor95 a nice hike down the valley and we tested our luck. The caches are sometimes easy to find and sometimes very hard. But we did all the 6 Tradi. We noticed the Word for the puzzle and at the end we had abcdefgh. But that was all. Any thing we tried was without proper result and we wanted to do another cache today. Therfor we give up. Out timline is very short and the found of the puzzle cache is gone for us. Maybe the owner will give us a hint via email.

After all it was a pleasant day and I enjoyed the hike and the panorama.

Thank you for this cache and greetings to the owner. Smile

The bananas had a bit of free time and we're in the area.
But all the free time was used up here and a little more pulling out prickles.
Good luck to anyone trying to find this treasure using these coordinates.
The bananas couldn't.
