What an odd location punctuated by an odd hide - although there's no need to be subtle in remote locations such as this.I wonder if this area will be developed further. After an interesting walk in we took a more direct route out - still it was an interesting way too.T F T C Juty Bug.I had today off work for the school holidays and it was actually very nice weather, warm and very sunny. So I decided cococlay123 and I would head out to find a few caches this afternoon. I choose an area that had a couple of solved puzzles and a little bit of a walk. It was an interesting journey with three finds and one DNF and some interesting Maori geography.
Thanks for the cache, what a mission, lots of back tracking haha, thought I was traspassing too. Best access is from Frank Wilson terrace I believe unless there is a different track I missed to get there, once in the correct place cache was easy to spot
Nice easy find, thanks for the hide, new BMX track being built along side it is pretty mint!
Quick trip to NZ, without my Angel , thought I was trespassing at first, then ran into one of the participants who was maintaining the track, he knew all about the cache. Pretty quick find once at the coordinates. In great shape, tftc!
We started off in the wrong trail but found one leading us directly there, we started down that one but it suddenly ended with a blue arrow pointing to a fallen tree and large drop! Didn’t have enough time to explore any further.
Great spot exploring off trail! And a new trail from the Te Henui walkway we didn’t know before, a great Geocache!!!
My second attempt at this after having a look a few years ago. Today I took walk through town, then the park and on to GZ where I found it pretty quickly. Then continued through the cemetery to East End for a coffee. A good walk a cache and coffee knocked off by 10.30. Thanks for the cache

Could not find we were almost at it when the track just ended and we couldn't go any further.
We set off from Frank Wilson Tce in search of this cache, but after walking over 500 metres, decided our chances of actually getting to this cache, let alone finding it, were pretty minimal, so we didn't persevere.
Wow i finally have this as a smiley face after several attempts and not a clue if where to go! so with the CO today i was able to knock it off and not fall into the creek like BB did as i used the old very covered up bridge. Hard to believe that the scouts used this area for camping in.
Big thanks to the CO. Phot of me sitting in stile!

What a story for this dnf! I had headed into town with my eyes on a different cache that had not been found for quite some time but decided since it was such a nice day to make a go for this one. I headed down the walkway from Timandra Street, clearly I have lost a bit of my confidence in the outdoors since I gave up being a girl guide leader nearly 18 months ago!
I made my way down the track and followed it along the river until it became impassable due to a creek running across the path. I backtracked to where I had found another track but this just took me in a loop.
Right, new plan. Made my way down from Frank Wilson Terrace, oh look at that a nice flat track that was not too steep. Got within 110m of gz only to be confronted by another obstacle, a locked gate with a bright shiny new padlock. I stared at it in disbelief for a bit before deciding against going over the fence as the grass was thigh high and on me that's saying something. I looked around for another entry point but didn't see anything. Deflated I started heading back but wait a minute this area feels familiar, why?? Whipped out my phone and was delighted to see a solved puzzle nearby so made my way there instead to fill a dot day.
Anyway as for this cache, i am not sure if there are either entry points which will allow access to the cache, I saw a couple of places I could go but decided not to risk it. Not sure if it's still there or not but the locked gate definitely put me off, I'm sure this was a lovely area in its day - I can definitely see the potential but I would not like to haul any gear down that track.

In the area with tmann421 doing some geocaching
Bit of mild bush bashing took us directly to what we were looking for

Quick trip away with woolwood9.
Bit of a mission as we looked for a track to the cache until we gave up and took a direct route. We soon had the cache found and log signed.
Enjoyed the area and the good caches.

Been meaning to get to this one for a while. With dog and pushchair in tow, we started the walk from the bottom of te henui. Lovely walk through the cemetery, then things got a little tough with the pushchair as we made our way through paddocks. Nice hide, quick find, then a trudge back through the paddocks again. TFTC
awesome to walk through a peace of history, i teach at the local air training corp, and could see all the spots that wouldve been set up as camp sites, it must have been a cool site, TFTC
Luckily I left the kids behind at home for this one! They don’t cope well on intrepid journeys... I have learnt not to take shortcuts and today proved right, made my way down hill, jumped a gate and wasn’t too far away, lots of different terrain here and I wasn’t wearing the best footwear. Took me a while to locate but yus! I spied it! SL TN LN. All in good order! The walk back up just about killed me TFTC
On a 10 day holiday of the North Island of NZ visiting from Australia sl thanks for the cache. Dropped a tb.
This one seemed to take forever, thought I'd take the scenic route but it was over grown and muddy and eventually came to a dead end. Tracked back and took the more direct route and eventually found the correct place. Still took a bit of hunting as GPS was off by a few meters but eventually found it. I wonder if my dad who grew up in the area used to stomp around here?
GPS has taken me the long way home from the Mega. Finding some good caches along the way, TFTC
The nearest cache to where I am staying (178m ) but almost the hardest to work out how to get there.

Great spot, best to do in summer, cache was open when I found it, very wet inside and no paper to log my visit
Slim chance of been muggled here. What a fab spot. Difficult walk, but totally worth it. Glad I had my tramping boots on. Tftc
That was a mission!! I suggest good footwear or wait until summer for this one! Track is messy and slippery
We took a much more difficult route to this one. Ended up with muddy pants and on our butts. On the way back we saw the real path. Oh well that's part of the fun. Picked up the whale- yay needed this for our collection. TFTC
This was our last cache in New Plymouth before heading home. It was a bit of a mission trying to find how to approach GZ, & we ended up increasing the terrain rating somewhat by going over the gate & taking the direct route.
The cache was a quick find once at GZ.
We took the TB & left a pet rock - a grey whale.
Thanks for setting this up Juty Bug, & it was nice to catch up with you again at the event today.

Dropped a trackable hopefully some one takes it further on its journey, awesome walk wish we had brought the dog! Left a chicken too!!
What a great trek
Wish I had bought my hiking boots and poles but got there and came back straight up beside the fence and over the gate many thanks

This is a definite from only Frank Wilson tce I tried timandra first but got there in the end sad to see this in its present state
(1816) Out caching with Skibow1 to collect some caches around New Plymouth. Thanks for taking us to some interesting spots.
Accessed via Frank Wilson Terrace as recommended by the previous finder. I earlier attempted accessing via Timandra Street and down along the river bush walkway as mentioned by the previous finder but again, the track petered out about 100 metres before GZ. So back to Timandra Street and a nice walk in. Had to climb the metal gate and navigate off-track through the long grass. Was only using my iPhone so had to expand the search area a wee bit. However, the cache was soon spotted. Enjoyed a very pleasant stroll from the motel we are staying in and a favourite point from me. TFTC.
The biggest challenge with this one was finding the right access - I started at Timandra Street and walked down to the river, then followed a track along the bank. This was taking me in the right direction, however it petered out about 100m from the cache and the terrain ahead looked rather forbidding. So I returned and started from the end of Frank Wilson Tce. This was much better, although I noted a locked gate with an unreadable sign on it and wondered if the area was accessible for the public. I hopped over the fence anyway and kept on going through the long grass, no tracks here but easy going. The cache was a quick find once I arrived at GZ, I spotted it as I walked towards it. One clip on the container was not secured, however the cache was dry inside. Signed log, replaced cache with both clips done up, thanks for an enjoyable cache!.
Searched about for a while, then, just as my smartphone connection cut out, I saw it! Took nothing, left nothing. dug27
Mother's Day mission! 10 caches! Completed! Thanks kids, husband and dog! What a beautiful hidden spot! Lovely place to end a fantastic day!
Had hoped to get here from the main Te Henui track but not crossing the river today after rain.
So a later walk to the west!
A bit of a slippery walk after the cold rain this week. But surprised to meet another person! and who knew of the cache, and had seen it!
Took the GC, thanks Huhus.

#6417. An interesting walk from Timandra Street to Avery Park this morning. Not the average walk in the park, but with the challenge befitting for scouts. GZ was all quiet. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition.
+ Blue Vyrembi-Coin flying in New Zealand
Took nothing, signed log. Thanks for the cache.

Nice day for a walk with my sisters dogs and my sister. My mission to get this cache. Phew made it. Was a tad wet in places which made for a slippery walk down. All good made it. Cache all nice and dry. Quick sign and headed back up again. Was very over grown wiuld hate ro be camping in there now. Really enjoyed the walk. Thanks for placing a cache here.
Good walk never been here before. Must have had some fun carrying your tents down. TFTC
After reading the logs I took this one on as a challenge. After deciding to start at the bottom of WITT for some reason and not knowing the area I trekked uphill to the top of the trail down. Then preceded down a track that reminded me of a level out of a Tomb Raider game. On reaching GZ I found that the hint could refer to so many things and nearly gave up as the sun was starting to get low and I didn't want to try tackle the path back up in the dark. Then as I turn to leave it jumps out at me, Think the coordinates were off by about 5ish metres for me.
Neat cache.
Thanks

I always wondered where this reserve went to. Quite a bit further than I expected! Good find after a scramble. Interesting history too.TFTC
Sorry folks when I came in winter the grass was short and the trees hadn't been pruned it's is bound to improve . Dropped off two TBs. Thanks for your tales

For some reason we thought this would be a nice easy walk and a relatively quick find. How wrong we were.
Our first attempt was after an evening meal in town the night before. Unfortunately, as it was getting dark, we took the wrong track and ended up going the wrong way, a mistake which was compounded by totally unsuitable footwear.
We equipped ourselves more properly this time, but found that the GPS which we had used last night had mysteriously lost the cache details so had to use my wife's cellphone instead. We then repeated the mistake regarding the track. At first we thought we were getting somewhere, but the path eventually petered out and left us in the bush on the riverbank. OK, back to the top and try again.
Next try was more successful. We got within 80 metres of Ground Zero then found ourselves overshooting. I found a gate and we got into a very overgrown field, but the growth was too much for my short wife to walk through so we went back up to the track to look for another way.
I think this is the fourth try now. We found a path which looked like it might be useful, and followed it down and up until it ran out, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. My wife found an overgrown stile and we climbed this to find ourselves within 10 metres of the hide. Now where would it be? Plenty of places to look; we scratched around for a few minutes until inspiration hit me. Yes, there it was, a telltale glint of blue.
We signed the log and dropped off a personal token, then sweated our way back to our car. Thanks for the hide, but please don't tell us there's an easier way to get to this cache or we'll end up kicking ourselves.

What an epic from knees'n'things. It does sound as though you hit the right track on the 4th try. Hope others read your log carefully to avoid similar problems. Went down there mid-afternoon, quite warm but pleasant in the shade and having orienteered through this area had no difficulty with finding the start of the correct track (which is posted)and which has to be taken with care in parts going down especially if wet, and with suitable footwear. The track has a few extra short side tracks near the river but by a process of elimination as you found out you do arrive there. Bet the air was blue too! great reading. Normal leisurely time should take 15 - 20 minutes return. Thanks Juty Bug for the exercise.

2TF I"ll bet there were a lot of story's told around the camp fires here. Pity its so overgrown now and therefor under used .As I was leaving GZ met up with BB and we chewed over the fat as we made our way back to our motors.SL TFTC
Been here as a Cub Scout back in the '60s. I still remember making and cooking my first ever damper over a campfire, and burning snarlers on a stick. More recently searched through here for a 'hard-to-find' orienteering control, hard to find as it was pretty overgrown then too, so one couldn't see the all important contours and features.
Today was not a good day... off for a day's geocaching on the mountain and I dropped my phone on the way out the door... smashed the screen which is no good for a touch screen phone. So I buy a replacement phone & I'm sitting at home setting up my new Galaxy S4 with c:geo app among others and this new cache pops up. Not surprisingly I got {FTF} as still not back at work from Summer hols. Met Niscar & Lilfishy looking from the track to a way in. I parked at WITT & approached via the level route from the bottom gate. Thanks JB for the FTF pin. Gets a fav point from me, as about time you put one out.

So 3rd to finx o a very hot day. Overgrown is a under exaggeration. While trying to pick a path I fell into an overgrown ditch up to above my waist. Lucky it was dry but still very messy and I got a few scratches getting out. Then found Priceless Time going the other way so he kindly waited for me and we had a good natter and watched each othet on the way bsck up and out to the cars. So its a hot and sweaty Mission Accomplished TFTC!
